  1. For everyone who is also looking for this 😁 The actions to manage custom presets are located in the panel menu:
  2. Hi, I've just downloaded the Affinity Designer trial, and am quite impressed. However, I am a design student and my school computers have adobe programs. As far as I can tell, I can't find any way of exporting Designer files as Ai files? I can see the option to export as psd, and I've tried to open Ai files using Designer with no problems - but I wanted to check whether there was a way of exporting to Ai that I had missed. Thanks
  3. Salve, sapete se esiste un buon visualizzatore di file che vede anche quelli salvati nel formato AFDesigner?
  4. How do I open new image files and have them go into a new layer? So far the only way I can get a new image into a layer is to open it, it opens in a new 'project(?)', a completely separate window. Then I select the image, copy, then go back to the project I'm working on and paste it into a layer. There has to be a direct way to just point to a file and have it open in the selected layer.
  5. Hi, i guess the actual common export dialog still needs significant improvements (all three Applications). I use the Affinity suite mainly for web design and web programming. Overall they do a good job in this area of application. But when it comes to export for web and reproduction of layout with HTML/CSS i often have to switch back to Photoshop, to render the final Bitmaps for use in web. First of all: we finally get a measurement tool !!! I always need to measure the exact pixel values from my design, to finally reproduce/program the exact appearence in CSS. But why only in Designer and not in all three apllications - this is an absolutely basic feature ?! Designers export persona with it's slices is fine for SVG and uncompressed PNG. It also suites for most small (average) images (JPG). And even WebP is now availlable in the export persona as well as in the common file export dialog. Thanks for that😍 But when you have to optimize e.g. huge hero images to a file size as small as possible neither the export persona nor the common file export offer a really handy preview of the resulting image. For lossy codecs like JPG and WebP this is highly recommend, because no preview means time consuming guesswork. Yes, the actual axport dialog offers a simple preview for the bitmap file types with some estimated target file size. But you have no direct visual comparison between original and exported image. Especially when you have to tweak the compression rate to as high as possible for huge images you have to carefully check critical areas. But at the moment WebP does not even allow a 1:1 pixel zoom ??? A good example of how the export dialog might work is the good old Photoshop CS dialog "save for web". Why Adobe marked it as "legacy" is a mystery to me. I still use this since 20 years... What are the key features: 1) You have a side by side preview of the original and the compressed bitmap. The preview areas have a synchronized zoom and pan so you can always see the same image area in original and result. There is a 1:1 pixel:display preview. If you check the typical problematic areas with JPG and WebP (red areas in general, soft gradients like in the sky, artefacts around Text and thin lines) you allways have to tweak the compression strength until it's just visually bearable. No algorithm can do this automatically and every image is different. By the way - the Designer pixel preview (view > split) is rather useless because an A|B split/slider does NOT show the same image area in parallel! You only see the vector OR the pixel preview 🤔 2) The estimated filesize is more prominent. At the moment in Affinity this is somewhat hidden in the upper right panel under the export settings. 3) It should be possible to strip all metadata from the exported file. EDIT OK - This is already integrated for some scenarios: uncheck to strip meta data
  6. Hey I had something crazy happen with infinity designer.. I was using the Fill Tool on my m1 Mac (Metal turned off) and it started getting suuuuuper lagggy, and 5 minutes later my mac told me I had 0 storage left. I checked and found that affinity dropped a 141 GB file into my Mac's private file storage! I resolved this and continued to use the fill tool which lagged a bunch, then poof! Half of my layers started glitching out, they either disappeared or leave weird glitch marks. As i move around the software they dip in and out, but remain gone 90% of the time, Im wondering if there is a way to fix this? I tried exporting and opening the file on an intel Mac. Same issues. Guess the file is "corrupted" even though the layers seem to technically still be there. If anyone has a fix for this or any ideas let me know! Thanks 1872750970_ITISYOURBIRTHDAY.afdesign
  7. Hey everyone, with the all-knowing alternatives to Affinity Suite (and also numerous other unrelated apps/applications), right-clicking on the name of the currently open file in the file window/titlebar allows you to see the location (unless it's a new, unsaved document). In combination with the option »open recent« (which also only shows the file name but not the file path) or the touch bar, which as well displays the last X documents, this would be incredibly helpful. Because … you know … we creatives sometimes forget where the current file or the latest version was saved to. 😅 My next workaround would actually be »Save As…«, which – in other apps – usually can be used to make out the location of the currently opened file. But here too, Affinity Suite seems to have its own way of working, which is not really comprehensible to me, as it shows the location of the previous/last »Save as…« operation, which is rarely the location of the currently opened file. I would be happy if this small feature gets implemented in a future release. 😉 Greetings Dennis
  8. Hey, im working on my portfolio currently which includes a lot of pictures and files and my question is how do I minimize the size of the finished file? It is only allowed to have 10MB if I want to send it to clients but if I export in lower quality you can't see the images very clear. Is there a solution to minimize the size of the finished file to 10MB without losing the sharpness of the images? Thanks
  9. Hi All I understand that Affinity photo does not have smart object creation. The reason for my interest at the moment is to reduce file sizes From my understanding PS smart object allow for photographs of huge resolution to be scaled down to be a more manageable file size but retain the abilit to scale up for creating large 300dpi prints. So say, to be able to work on a 2000x1000px canvas for photo bashing and manipulation, but be able to scale up to a large print output of up to 10000x5000 if required. My (somewhat limited) understanding is this is an ideal use for smart objects in PS. But what do we do in Affinty? Greatful for suggestions. Thanks
  10. Hello moderators, I was working on an Affinity Publisher project and all of a sudden the file is corrupted.. I deleted some texts in that file and wanted to save the altered file. But then there was a warning that the file couldn't be found and it is broken now... After restarting the computer, I can't open the file at all. It says it's corrupt all the time. I read in the forum that it might be possible for you to recover files - it would be amazing of you could try it. The file however is private - would you be able to provide a dropbox link where I can upload it privately? Thank you so much for your time. Best Kathy PS: I found these questions in a different post and wanted to give you the details: 1. Which Operating System are you using? Windows 10 2. Which version of Affinity did the file last get saved in? 3. What drive type was the file last saved to (select more than one if needed)? Local disk 4. Any other information you think would help us try to find the problem? There sadly is no backup..
  11. Affinity Photo version on Windows 10 : the devellop function crops NEF File . D4#5296.afphoto D4#5296.NEF
  12. 'Export' from Photo - png and gifs are fine, but jpgs only want to 'save as' affinity files. Same problem with Designer.
  13. We have a file that is not opened by Affiinity Photo 1.8.4. It claims to open it, but even in 10 minutes, it is not opened. 378123zip.tif
  14. Is there a way to export native designer files from the ipad designer app without using icloud? When I go to export a design, why is there no option to export it as a native file? why does it have to be converted to some other format?
  15. Hi, Affinity Photo reads the message "the file type is not supported". System Windows 10 Affinity photo : File : see attached file In the folder only few files are unreadeabled. All the file are read without problem with ViewNX. Best Regards. Yves POUJOL. DSC_4762.NEF
  16. Hi, so recently I have reset my widows, meaning completely removed all files. I backed-up most of my .asdesign files. My problem is that every time I try to save a file, (even a completely blank one) it does let me save it, but after I have saved it, a pop-up saying: And then I click close. It does this with every .asdesign file i save. I can't open the file afterwards either. Then it's just corrupted. I use sRGB btw. I can still open old documents (The ones that I backed-up from before the reset) I've seen 2 other posts about the same message/pop-up, but it didn't match my problem: they tried to open a file. I've reinstalled Designer 3 times and made sure it didn't leave any files. I've tried many things. It really sucks. Here is an example of a file: example.afdesign, but as i said it happens to all files. And this is the 2 pop-ups i get when trying to open fx. example.afdesign Pls help me:) Many thanks. DouVI PS. feel free to ask for any more information, cause I'm desperate and really need this to be solved;)
  17. I've got not that big of a file (16 megapixels, 8-bit and a couple of raster layers) that after saving shockingly took 700 mb of my disk space. I copied all of it's contents in a fresh document with the same dimensions, saved it again and BAM! - 100mb. What causes this colossal difference in file size when the content is 100% the same? I've noticed this is a persistent problem with Affinity Photo. When I finish with a project, I always have to transfer all the contents in a new document before saving otherwise I'd have clogged up my disk by now. Any way to avoid this or is this a bug?
  18. Hello, I'd like to ask if there's a solution to stop/avoid growing of files that I edit or change. It seems that working on a file simply grows it's size over time and there's no clear solution to keep it small. Originally I thought it's the saving of the full history in the file. But when I open recently edited files in both Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer, it has no prior history stored in it. Anybody has an idea? Thx! Btw. backup solution that I have is to open a new file and paste all content from the old file to the new one. But that's killing export settings and you need to think of setting bleed correctly etc.
  19. Hey Guys, I was wondering if there is a way to generate random file names when Batch Processing images. Greetings
  20. Can somneone kindly help a guy out and show me how to recover a file that Affinity Designer is saying is 'corrupted' when trying to open. The autosaves seem to have been wiped over (happens each time you open, wish it didn't though). Thanks in advance.
  21. Hi, I'm very much a beginner with Affinity Photo after years of only editing my photos in RAW form in apps like Lightroom and Capture One. What I've always understood is that a JPEG file is the final form, with edits 'baked in'. The idea of adding an HSL or brightness and contrast layer to a JPEG file seems very strange - surely this will push a compressed image too far? I understand adding pixel layers with creative effects or combining images, but what is the expert opinion on adjustments? My expected workflow will still be doing essential edits in a RAW editor, but should I export the end result as a TIFF file, for example, for more creative work in Affinity Photo in order to preserve quality and avoid artefacts?
  22. hello I post this message to try to find a solution to my problem I apologize if this subject has already been treated in another topic I cannot open an affinity desinger file if it was created with a higher version, my university does not update the software for technical reasons and I cannot open my files from these versions. is there an option in the software to maximize the compatibility? If not, is there any software to edit or delete the version of the version on the file? If not, is there documentation on the .afdesign files in order to manually modify the file with an exadecimal editor like notpad ++? thank you for your help
  23. So... first thing is. I love your software. I pay your software. I recommend your software. And I depend on your software! But... "Access to the document´s file was lost while performing..." isn´t something I don´t expect from one second to another from your software! I do save every 5 Minutes, and i do versions when software is new and project is important. But this time 8hours of work are gone. And I am trying to get help here for 3 hours. But maybe your are on BREXIT already ? - nobody is responding I did try every trick I know ... copy and save the file to another drive... rename it... open/ import it into designer or publisher... open it with one of the new betas... NOTHING WORKED! (missing autosave & Incremental save option)
  24. I am doing the graphic design of a game using SVG files I was using Adobe Illustrator CC, but exporting SVG files in AI ruins the gradient, shapes, so I switched to affinity designer The problem is that when I open any SVG file, the color of the vectors looks wrong, pale, without saturation I think it could be because the color settings, and display settings When I export the file as SVG, the colors display correctly in other software, such as inkscape/illustrator (as should be) but not in affinity designer, so yeah, the problem is about displaying the colors in the software correctly _______ These are two examples of the same file open in different softwares - (Affinity open the Affinity file.PNG - SVG screenshot) __ - (Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape or other software or browser open the SVG file.PNG - SVG screenshot)
