  1. I'm a newbie to the AD forum and am enjoying the positive and helpful community. I was wondering why I get this message when trying to like someone's post on a forum, "Sorry, you cannot add any more reactions today."? I think it's important for the community, but most importantly the AD developers to know whose opinions people support the most... kind of like a democratic process to understand what the majority of users want. Customer feedback is very valuable because it helps developers to know what features to change and improve upon. Vectornator, another vector software program, has an interesting feedback system for customers that the AD developers might want to look at. https://feedback.vectornator.io/ Thanks for your help.

  3. Hi all Thank you so much to all of you who purchase my kits. The Bundle sale went down very well and I shall re start making more kits. Since that Bundle sale I have had a not ONE, not TWO but ALL THREE of my Hard Drives fail me.I lost the last one on Sunday and it had all my Designer kits files on there. Back ups have not helped as those backup drives also failed. Yikes! All is NOT lost I will get them back today. In the meantime I need money to pay the computer guy to replace my lost hard drives.Just to replace the C: drive for my programs cost me AUD$250. So I need to raise money FAST! I am thinking of offering Affinity Forum Users ONLY all of my kits AND other designs too, for US$20 the lot. Anyone who DID purchase the bundle via Creative Fabrica - please message me your receipt details and I will let you have this new bundle at Half Price. I aim to have this PRIVATE Affinity Forum Users ONLY bundle ready by THIS weekend. Angela
  4. Hi Affinity, While I love the way OpenType features are handled much better than in Adobe, I really cannot navigate font superfamilies. If you have any family that has different weight groups then navigating through the font list is very difficult. Can you guys please fix the font organization. It really slows down my work otherwise. I am showing screenshots for one particular font family. I have licensed countless superfamilies and I really don't like working with them in Affinity products for this reason.
  5. Hi Affinity, As a member of the Affinity converted with Designer and Publisher, I have used Affinity software for my digital agency and there are presentations of mine in the exec offices of some global automakers. This work used to be done with InDesign but I switched over to Designer two years ago and used multipage artboards to work on my projects. When Publisher Beta came out I was on cloud nine, and then when StudioLink came out I really needed psychotherapy to cure my OCD with Publisher. Such an amazing, groundbreaking workflow. I also took a very deep dive on Photo, the latest store version and also the beta. I have a collection of thousands of Photoshop files and many of them opened up flawlessly. I also love the refined UI. And now rotating brushes are amazing! I seriously don’t know why Photoshop hasn’t done that yet, but consider that it took them many years to enable CMD-Z. You guys had live preview first but they soon adopted that, so it is clear they are watching what you are doing. I would like to come over 100% to Affinity but I have several issues that prevent me from doing so. Also, I do realize that this is a monumental task - Photoshop really is Adobe’s flagship, more so than any of their products. It was easy to switch over to Designer from Illustrator, really easy even with features missing (perspective warp please! - although doing that in StudioLink). Right now I am adept enough at Photo as and use it within a StudioLink context but not standalone and here’s what’s preventing me: Smart Objects. Before I begin, I know Adobe is never going to let you in on Smart Objects. PSD documents that include them will open up with these layers rasterized. But let’s consider that your embedded documents are pretty much there. I can add a Photo or Designer file to Photo or Designer or Publisher and I can edit the document just as I would a smart object, and see live updating on the master document - which is ahead of Photoshop in that regard. Also if it’s a Designer file in Photo I can edit in Designer without leaving Publisher or Photo.) In Photoshop you can only edit a vector with Illustrator). Then with the embedded document I can add a few live filters such as Distort>Perspective - which is a favorite in working in a mockup scenario. As a live filter I can go back and change the settings. I can also add some live blurs and a few other things. Sadly, the other Distort live filters don’t work as they have no effect on the embedded object. If you apply a non-live filter then the embedded document rasterizes, and then this gets destructive especially when placing a vector in a Photo document. I don’t mind converting my Photoshop PSB files (smart object files) to PSD then placing as embedded documents. This way I can have my entire core design and logo files standardized as Affinity vector and raster files, but the inability to do pinching and liquifying and other types of warping and shading stops me from doing this. Also there is no way to take a group of layers in Photo and convert easily to an embedded document. I really love how this works in Photoshop. It’s essential to my work, and this is the main thing keeps me on Photoshop. Hopefully Affinity can continue development here. Brushes. While I was praising brushes in Photo there is one simply itsy bitsy thing that is absolutely essential to my work. I need the brushes labeled with their actual names, as they are done in Photoshop. Photoshop has brush flyout panels - if you extend the panels. I have over two thousand brushes and it’s just too difficult to know what’s what in Photo. Even if there are groups, I can’t tell what the individual brushes are if there are two many. I can hover over the brush and then see if I’ve selected the correct one - this works well if you have a few brushes but not if you have so so many. LUTs. I love the live presets on LUTs. But honestly it is a chore to import them as presets. Also it takes too long to load the adjust layer presets. Photoshop allows you to add all the LUT files to the programs preset folder. Restart photoshop and they are all there. Pattern fills. Oh pattern fills. I keep reading in the forum that this is a badly needed feature and so I am throwing myself into this group. Yes I can work around this and have done so… but why? It’s so easy in Photoshop and I have a library of so many .pat files that I would love to use in Photo, just as I have converted my brushes, color files (with online converters) and gradients. Blend Options. I love your layer blend options UI - really easier to use than Photoshop. But shouldn’t it be part of Layer Effects? I want to add color fills for instance and select the blend options right then and there, so I can see what I’m doing as I can in Photoshop. Feathered masks. If I want to feather a mask in Photoshop I simply go to the mask properties and then adjust the feathering. In Photo I can’t feather a mask that’s been applied to an adjustment effect directly. I have to move the mask to a layer above, then apply a live filter, and then move the mask and its filter under the adjustment effect. I have to do these things all the time and this seems oddly cumbersome.
  6. Hi all! Hope you're doing great! I'll try to be brief. As I pointed out in this twit, the non-Apple devices found in the preset dropdown in the Affinity suite are way too old. I don't even remember what screen, resolution or size these devices had, for this "preset suggestion" to be relevant to me anymore (I mean, just look at the release dates. Nexus 5 and Surface Pro 2: October 2013, Galaxy S5: April 2014, etc.) I believe the suite could have more useful presets by simply updating the models these presets refer to, so that we can have something more recent in mind when we choose what to work with. Thanks a lot for reading!
  7. There is no way to Aquire the scanner into Design. You can do this in Affinity Photo, but it would be great to save this additional step by allowing Design to access the scanners. Thanks!
  8. A happy Affinity user here. Just wanted to suggest that the Isometric Studio would be better served as its own persona. This would eliminate the issues of having to show grid in one menu, show grid in the isometric panel, switching between grid cycles within the panel, and having to 'double check' as it were, the showing of the grid..it seems unnecessarily messy and unorganized. I think it definitely qualifies as its own persona, given the complexity and abundance of options. Thank you!
  9. My Initial Experience With Affinity Publisher (Beta) My Workspace Setup: Affinity Publisher Public Beta (v1.7.0.312) Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (2.50GHz CPU & 16GB RAM) Windows 10 64-Bit Operating System I came across Affinity Publisher by searching for software that would satisfy my requirements to complete a flyer for a new client. I had recently moved and was without my usual equipment. Using a fairly new Surface Pro 4, I realized that I needed something a bit more oriented to the task ahead of me than the software that came with the machine. Not wanting to pay an awful lot of money for something in a rush, I was fortunate to have this public beta come through during my search. I have to say that not only am I impressed with the capabilities of Affinity Publisher in its current stage of development, but also with the level of insight and dedication to the user that has been put in to the tutorial videos available on the website. I was able to draft up several project proposals to the customer in only a few hours and quickly make modifications according to their reviews of my work. The next day I was paid for my work and the customer has a finished product that has exceeded their expectations, as well as a few bonus tweaks to the images they initially provided for use with the flyer that they may now use on their website or in other materials that promote their products. This software is designed with the professional environment in mind and built in a way that users of any experience level should have little or no trouble getting their designs up and running. As far as constructive criticism or suggestive feedback is concerned, I will have to put Affinity Publisher to the acid test so to speak as I have not yet come across anything that has triggered a red flag: no bugs, no missing features, no User Interface glitches or improvements and certainly no complaints. I will be sure to provide more in-depth contributions should the opportunity present itself. I'd like to thank the developers and everyone at Serif who has made this opportunity possible for all of us. Keep up the phenomenal work! 10. Just wanted to share my recent experience. I've just laid out a full 250-page book in APu and overall it has been excellent to work with. I'm not a highly experienced graphics guy though I have done two or three books previously in InDesign. While acknowledging the advice not to work on important jobs in the beta, I couldn't resist the urge not to spend the money on an ID subscription again and also to give this software a proper go. The only significant headache I had was some instability when files got too big (about 30MB) so I ended up splitting the task into three parts and merging the PDFs at the end. This had obvious implications for the table of contents but it wasn't too onerous. Working with the smaller files there were no crash issues at all. My book wasn't overly complex though it includes quite a number of illustrations and a few tables. Import was from MS Word, with which I found it easier to simply copy and paste text across rather than importing the .docx file (that function was added about halfway through this project). Working with the basic design elements, with styles, text flow and so on was really a breeze. The interface is slick and much nicer to work with than Indesign. One thing I missed was anchors/cross-references, which I'm sure will arrive at some point so I no longer have to manually update references to other pages, but again this was a small issue. All in all I can't wait for the full release. Thanks team!
  11. Yet another moment of, hey I didn't know I could do that: Today I did a PLACE with an .svg image and I was able to edit it in the manner of an Adobe smart object. I knew I could do that with Affinity files but I didn't know I could do it with .svg as well. Kudos Affinity!
  12. Hi, I simply want to say how much I love Affinity Publisher, right from the start. A BIG pile of congratulations for… Having colour profile options right there in the document setup panel An intuitive pages palette and the ability to add guides to a master page Clear font menu with previews, favourites and recents Visual text pre-sizing A drag and drop assets palette - works a treat! Picture-in-text / picture-in-shape made super easy in the layers palette Kudos!
  13. Please consider writing into your next forum website functions, the ability to use colored text and colored backgrounds & highlights.
  14. I don't have time to search entire forums or the interwebs to see if someone else has ever suggested this feedback before. So I offer my apologies if my suggestions have already been covered. 1) Please can you provide a feedback function WITHIN the application it self. It's incredibly frustrating to have to use out dated methods of signing up to god-awful web-forums which just leads to nonconstructive replies of un-thought out opinions and arguments. It also allows you to correctly link feedback (and abuse) to the software license of the user and even categorise the feedback so you can easily see which areas are causing most concern to the user base. 2) Please can you fix the mouse icon when painting in masks in the develop mode. The standard OS mouse icon does not feel accurate to paint with. Also a nice to improve if possible: Painting often feels sluggish to see the red tint forming. If there is a way to make this feel more responsive without upgrading an existing 32GB RAM I7 processor machine, that would be lovely please. 3) Cropping in Develop mode is missing an "ok" or "finished" button. It's frustrating to be sitting back with my tablet, controlling everything then having reach over to the keyboard which I moved to one side, just to hit <enter>. I don't want to map the enter key to my tablet device as it's never used for anything else! if you simply put a button in the UI it will mean I can just move the mouse there and click! perhaps I've missed a trick that does what I want, but then that would mean it's not obvious and intuitive to the user. 4) Please update the flash function for uploading files on this forum. Who runs flash in 2017? Browsers auto block flash from running by default because it's nasty. 5) More of a question then a suggestion, but is there a way to rename the overlays in the Overlays tab in Develop mode? I have 3 gradient overlays, all with the same name! that's very confusing to simple minds like myself. 6) Although I generally hope you spend more time fine tuning what you have already developed, instead of just rushing out new features, it would be nice if there was an in-application function for browsing image files, with a nice big preview of the image and EXIF data, which you can then double click to open it in the develop mode. I don't think anyone wants all this "importing" and cataloguing rubbish which is very slow. But browsing files within Affinity with a UI that suits photographers that windows/macOS don't offer, would be a great win. Thanks for your time.
  15. First I apologize if I am repeating things already asked for. I like the way macros allow me to automate things but in the future it would make the feature much more usable if more actions could be recordable Such as 1. nesting items within the layers panel 2. setting a fill with the gradient fill tool 3. select multiple objects/layers.
  16. Hi, I recently bought the Affinity Designer Workbook and have really been enjoying the practical examples and working my way through it. Just a minor error that I'm not sure has been reported or not (I don't have Facebook or Twitter to contact directly so posting on here) but I noticed a formatting error on page 109 - half of the words at the start of each line seems to be cut off a bit. I included a screenshot below. I have to say that the book is excellent so far, I've always found most design software to be quite intimidating and time consuming to learn but the workbook is getting me to grips with the software really quick and it's been surprisingly intuitive to use. If I notice anything else as I work through the book, I'll use this thread to continue posting.
  17. Hi all. Thank you for your work on Affinity Designer. 1. Let's imagine that I am creating some vector art (see screenshot, below). 2. My goal is to remove the selected object's Fill color. The problem is that if I want to use the "/" hotkey (to remove the color) or "x", "/" (to switch from Stroke to Fill and then remove the color) ... I don't know whether the STROKE or the FILL is currently "Selected". (A**** Illustrator solves this by always showing the Stroke and Fill in the Tool Bar (see screenshot, below)). In my case, I have to first take my hand away from the keyboard to move my mouse, then open the Color Panel, to find out whether the Stroke or Fill is selected. This creates an extra 2-3 second, unnecessary step in my workflow. My recommendation might be to add a "Selected highlight" around the Fill or Stroke color in the Context Toolbar which is displayed far more frequently than the Color Panel (see screenshot, below). Thank you, again, for your work!
  18. Hey Affinity people! First of all, Designer looks very nice. It could be my main program in the future. but it lacks here and there and this is what i would like to see. For me, as an illustrator in vector... i work with the pencil tool A LOT!. the pentool is okey, free drawing on my tablet / cintiq is 'tha best" So pencil power! Okey, i have tried this workflow and this is what is what happens for me when i do character vector work: Affinity Designer: - I draw my desired line with the pencil tool. - The tool doesn't know that i want to do a correction. If i draw on top of the line it creates a new vector. I need to delete the whole line and do it again also when its just a small part that needs an fix. - Press N to switch to pentool so node icons appear on top - press close icon and the object is now closed. - press N to switch to pencil tool - create new line. Adobe Illustrator: - I draw my desired line with the pencil tool - draw directly on top of the line to correct it. It will re-shape my previous action. Most of the time its just a minor fix. - simply hit the line somewhere, it will close. U see how powerful the pencil tool is in Illustrator vs the long and lack of workflow in Designer. In illustrator i stay in my tool an continue working non-stop where in Designer i need to switch tools and use icons. I hope this helpfull!
  19. hello, I just update to ios 11, and some of the functions like drag and drop didn’t work. So I removed A.Photo and downloaded againt. Now I can’t export to camera roll. Here’s the screen recording:
  20. Some issues I've been facing on the Export persona in AD ( public and beta): Slices don't always get the name of the artboard. If you rename the artboard the slice will keep the old name. If you're duplicating artboards this causes an issue where many slices have the same name and they'll be overwritten upon export I have a document with over 10 artboards (each one gets a slice). If I zoom out and select them on the Slices panel I can't tell which one is selected or not. Due to the naming issue above it's really hard to tell which of the artboards is selected since some have the same name and you can't see the selection border. The selection border gets hidden behind the slice blue border. There needs to be a way to completely hide (toggle show/hide) the slices markings In the Layers panel (back in Vector Persona) if you double-click a layer AD will zoom it in to fit the viewport. This would be very, very useful in export persona too, in the Slices panel. Double clicking a slice in the listing would zoom into that slice. Using the Slice tool sometimes selects an existing slice and sometimes it tries to create a new slice over an existing one. The behavior changes depending on zoom level and it's hard to replicate. The Slice Selection Tool selects objects within the artboard instead of the slice Selecting a artboard-slice by its name only works at greater zoom levels (100% or larger) There needs to be actions (buttons or kbd shortcuts) to select all/select none slices Selecting a slice highlights it on the Slices panel listing but does not scroll to it Thanks for reading :)
  21. Hi, I'm finding use of the crop tool really frustrating, sorry! I've just used Affinity Photo whilst at an event. I was taking portraits and then customers immediately viewed their images and purchased their favourites. Invariably a few of the images needed extra cropping, for which I used Affinity Photo. i was printing 6x8 inches, so I set up a preset for a 3:4 ratio crop (why is there not one already? This is a standard print size). However, whenever I opened a new image in AP the crop tool had reset to the default option (freeform crop). I had to select the 3:4 preset everytime. Could there be an option for AP to remember the previously used crop option? Also, the crop interface overlayed the image boundaries outside of the image. The image was filling my screen, and I had to scroll up and out of the image to find the crop tool handles in order to bring them back into the image - this was REALLY annoying and took up a lot of time. Either: 1. Set the crop tool handles to fall within the boundaries of the image and let the user drag outside the image if required. Or 2. Once the crop tool and crop ration/preset has been selected, let the user drag the crop boundaries over the image so they can select the crop region straight away. I really liked the speed of AP, I need to adjust to the interface still but that is a matter of time. Having used PS for 20 years I'm very used to that way of working. I like the fact many of the shortcut keys are the same in AP and PS. Kind regards, Charles
  22. My name is Reda Lazri, I’m a freelance designer from Algeria. I specialize in UI/Web design and branding, with a minor focus in print design. I’ve been using Inkscape since I started vector drawing many years ago, and continued to do so though my switches to Linux and then MacOS along with Sketch for UI design, but recently I decided that it’s time for me to move on to something better than Inkscape since it was lagging on the Mac so I purchased Affinity Designer after using the trial version for some time. Even though I think that I have made the correct choice by moving most of my work to Affinity Designer now, I thought I’d share a list of the most annoying aspects about it, coming from non-Adobe software. Of course, this goes without saying that I like a lot of its unique features. The Interface I wish there was a light mode for when I’m not in the mood. Waiting for 1.6. ;) The Studio The most annoying thing for me in this aspect was the inability to collapse the right panes into icons to save space and declutter the workspace, especially since I work from a 13” Macbook without an external monitor. :\ The Keyboard Shortcuts One major annoyance was the default shortcuts that are so similar to Photoshop and yet do not make much sense (why can the Node Tool be selected by both V and A while the Artboard tool doesn’t have a proper shortcut?,) I was really hoping that AD would have had shortcut profiles and included a PS preset while providing better, memorable shortcuts. I think Sketch nails this with (O)val, (V)ector, (L)ine, ®ectangle, (S)lice, (A)rtboard by default. There is also the “Return-to-convert-text-to curves-without-noticing” I wasted a lot of time doing Ctrl-Z for this one. And I just wish the shortcut to duplicate objects was Cmd-D like everything else. Also, there are no shortcuts for geometric operations (add, divide, subtract…), which is weird since they’re the most used in vector drawing. Artboards Multiple Artboards can't be selected and moved around, and they are treated like normal objects when they’re duplicated. The duplicated Artboard should be created next to the original not on top of it. Guides (Limitation) I miss the guides from Inkscape, you can even rotate them. AD really lacks in this area. The color pane(s) I’m spoiled by the way Inkscape does it as well as the quick Ctrl-C picker in Sketch. AD really lags behind with its weird way of working: I can’t quickly set a fill or a stroke without toggling them first Using the picker doesn’t assign the color, but instead keeps in a circle next to it and I have to click on it again. There is no HEX values UNLESS I select “RGB Hex Sliders”, what if I want HSL instead? :| There is opacity slider when I click on the Fill/Stroke. There are no Swatches, noise, Hex when I use the ‘Color’ pane on the right. The ‘Save’ Dialog (Bug) If you try to close a document without saving it asks you to save; if you do, you’ll have to click ‘close’ again. Text (Limitation?) A created line of text can’t be converted to a text frame, or can it? Strokes (Bug) Joining two lines increases the width of their stroke! Will there be PART 2? Probably, this is just a list I made after using AD for three projects, I think there is a lot to be discovered. Please let me know what you think and whether you have suggestions to minimize the annoyance.
  23. I would like to see a simpler way to visualize which pages will print on the left or right sides of a booklet. I understand there is a multiple page view, but it woud be faster for me to determine which is a left facing page or a right facing page if there was some indicator in the pages view (e.g.: a small dark marker of some sort in the bottom left or right corner of each page shown; could be an option shown along with changing the name of the page window). Or it would be helpful to see a two-page spread screen to see which pages will print to face one another. Alternately, it would also be helpful to have an option to force a master page to appear on the left or right face when using a booklet fold (and have it automatically place an extra page before or after in order to accommodate this transition). This would come in handy when creating booklets if you prefer the chapter title page to always begin on the right side (or left). Thanks for listening... Looking forward to seeing what Affinity Publisher 2017 beta has to offer!
