  1. Is the affinity team check the Internet to see what are saying about your softwares ? Because if you conduct the investigation, you would see taht the most wanted feature is a DAM. Everywhere in Facebook groups, forums ... it's THE thing that blocks systematically. This is understandable, amateur photographers as professionals use sensibly same workflow that begins with the classification and organization of their photos... it's impossible for a photographer to do without a DAM when he has thousands of photos. Currently no DAM software seems to be able to read Affinity files ... If you really want to explode the market, take out THE PROMISED DAM for years or make an agreement with other software like DarkTable ... You will shadow Adobe only when you'll have a LightRoom equivalent (the dam part of course), in the meantime, photographers monitor, test but do not seriously consider using your software, many will also forget you... I really think that's DAM should be a priority, what about you ?
  2. What are the differences between the iPad and Desktop version of Affinity photo? I have the iPad one, but it was only $20 while the desktop version is $50. I feel like I could use the desktop for its more powerhouse ability for some things, but am not sure if there are any differences that make the desktop version is more worth it.
  3. Until just last night, I knew nothing about Affinity Designer. But because I was forced to find a substantially cheaper alternative for Illustrator for the time being, I'm glad to have found this app. Even though I can see right off the bat how many features aren't included that I'm used to in Illustrator, I see how the workflow is way more intuitive, and just consolidated in how you perform operations (Layer masks just like Photoshop. But like...with Vectors. WOW. Whoda thunk? Adjustments to the stroke thick/thin with that beautiful pressure tool. SAY WHAT? Where've you been all my life?) However, here are the three things I need to know how to do straight in Affinity. I realize I may need to jump back and forth in my clunk older copy of Illustrator to do a few things. But hopefully I'm just over looking things. How do you do offset a path? I know there's a stroke feature. Which is and isn't quite the same, but I can achieve similar things for the basic outside offset. However, I need to know how to do inner path offsets (you know, when you set the offset to a negative number, and it shrinks). I'm assuming it's called something else if you have this feature. I keep reading conflicting stuff online (that seems a little out of date as well) Is there a way to do the Envelope warp with objects in Affinity? Basically, I just want to know if I can arch my text like in Illustrator. I don't need the wacky bulges and crap like that. I just need to do arches and flag raises. Is there a shape blend tool or a process to create shape blends? A bonus one would be if I can create pattern brushes like in Illustrator, but that's a "meh" The fact that you can draw like a real art program means I wouldn't need pattern brushes as much. Anyway, I'm still using the trial. Is the paid version different?
  4. When it comes to organizing images in a DAM app can you please have a look at how Apples aperture organized them. They had Project, Album and Smart Albums. Then you could organize any of those items into folders. Also they allow a broad ranging choice of how to store the images, from within aperture library, an external folder on the HD or on an external HD, the options were limitless as well as automatically backing up the original images to a separate folder/drive. With work I will have multiple projects running dealing with between 2000 and 10000 images, Apertures organizing system made it a piece of cake to organize and categorize the images quickly and effectively so when it came time to make a movie out of the photos I did not need to pour through thousands of images as they were already organized in a way I could pull up the ones I needed straight away. I found lightrooms organizing system cumbersome and I had to go back and for between different projects (libraries), I want to see all my projects on the same screen as I tend to go back and forth between them quickly to compare. Can you also add editing capabilities for the basic edits like lightroom and aperture have and then link the photos into the Photo app for more advanced edits. For me aperture is the best DAM I have used and it is what made lightroom what it is today, it's a shame Apple discontinued it, but if you guys took on some of the organizing features that would be fantastic. Cheers JT
  5. I want this technology on Affinity Designer. Please. That´s could be awesome. Check this out Serif and Affinity Designer development team. Please. https://astutegraphics.com/tech/application-chassis-technical-features/ This technology that Astute Graphics is offering could greatly improve Affinty Designer. Please Serif and Affinity Designer development team, take a look at it and take it into consideration. Astute Graphics create amazing vector design tools, currently only as plugins for Adobe Illustrator. Just Analyze the Astute Graphics offer. Please.
  6. Affinity Photo for the iPad Pro is just great and I hope Designer is coming soon as well. Until now I had only used AP to edit photos, but finally I got around to try it out as a drawing app and it rocks! But nothing as good that it can’t be better so here’s my list of features I’d like to see. One is quite simple: add a line tool to shapes. There is the arrow tool but then I need to select none for the arrowheads and if it had been the other way round, I’d be content. The reason I ask for it is because I often add a thin line to frame my cartoons, for instance. Procreate has a solution for it; you just draw a line and press and hold and it snaps into a straight line. But since iOS support a ruler why not add that? Well, it wouldn’t work on the desktop version or for other platforms, but a ruler would be handy as a support when drawing straight lines. Then I’d like to see something like Photoshop’s Magic Wand - a really quick selection tool. Click. Select. (And now I remembered a useful feature in Procreate; to be able to select a layer as a reference layer.) Finally I would like to see a do not disturb mode, a clean sheet or drawing mode. By that I mean something like the full screen mode you have, where menus go away - but they snap back too easily! When I have chosen my tool I’m all absorbed when I’m drawing and I work fast and intensely. Then it’s frustrating when all the menus pop have or I inadvertently touch some feature I don’t want. If by clicking the little icon in the upper right corner really meant that everything but the canvas go away and stay away until you click it back again, it would be great. And then the adjustments for the brushes should go away, too. That was all and forgive me if this was posted in a wrong place and feel free to move it where it should be.
  7. Orginize Artbords Change all image to multiple images based on orders when you select multiple image and drag them to a repeating item, it automatic replace it with the images in order, so you don't need to change every one your self Create arrow between Artbords Connect your artboards with drag-and-drop to help communicate the flow.
  8. I love Affinity Designer, please keep up the good work. It's coming along nicely, but I have run into some basic usability issues that significantly slow down my workflow. I think these would be useful for most users. Please add some form of vector trace - I am still keeping other vector apps for just this 1 feature. The Selection Marquee can’t select layers within groups - can this be added as an option or to the direct selection tool. With large documents, finding and selecting multiple layers really slows down the workflow. When ungrouping from a hidden group the layers don’t become hidden (which I would prefer) and I have to do that manually. Can they stay hidden by default unless I unhide the group and then ungroup, Can I change the highlight colour In Export tab When zoomed out with alot of slices. I can’t tell which slices I have chosen unless I have them all both selected and ticked. Please enable macros - this would be useful for many repetitive tasks making long shadows for example Again thanks for a great application. These are just suggestions (apart from number 1).
  9. Hello, do I understand this in the right manner? All the features and tools of Affinity Photo for the desktop are also available in the iPad variant? So I could see with the test version for the desktop, whether the iPad variant is suitable for me? Greetings from Berlin Gabi
  10. Hello Some new features for affinity photo 1. Possibility to open an infinite number of layers. Because right now from 15 16 I can no longer have access to background layers 2. Have the ability to make a quick selection on a layer mask. 3. Copy paste a layer mask onto other images simply by dragging it onto a layer. 4. Integrate multiple images on a project so you can crop an image without having to do it on other projects, save and add an image. Simply have in a document several separate images to cut or retouch separately to then add to the single image slide over each other. 5. Make an affinity photo interface closer to the computer interface 6. Make a more simplified interface with the interface selection directly in the interface the basic interface of retouching 7. And move the retouching filters to a search bar at the top with search by name. Because at the moment it is difficult to find a filter quickly by spanking all. 8. Add more fonts to the text. Or the possibility to download via internet 9. Decrease or move the adjustment filter 10. Have the ability to modify and move each interface, icon and search bar as we wish in the interface 11. Have a closer interface than Photoshop CC if possible .. with all the features, retouch, filter at the same places instead of looking right to left

  12. Hello, i would just like to ask if you could confirm oder contradict my following impressions regarding the newest Affinity Photo for Windows on desktop PCs. Thanks for all input! Layers: thumbnail size in layers panel/studio cannot be changed layers can't be dragged between files no command to Expand Canvas so that all hidden layers are fully visible no command to crop uniform/empty canvas to actual content Raw module/persona: no button for auto contrast raw sharpening: no masking for sharpening (exclusion of finely detailed areas); no threshold slider no lens profiles (auto correction of distortions caused by known lens-camera combos), neither in Raw nor Photo module/persona (i see in the settings you can choose "Apply Lens Corrections") split view (before/after): the "before" view is unchangeably on the right side, the "after" view is unchangeably on the left side GUI: no built-in image browsing, no transfer of corrections from one image to many others no command to position two open files side-by-side (for comparison) no command Revert to Last Saved State (though doable via History panel) Photo module/persona: In the HSL correction, i have to chose a colour range like "Reds" in the menu. I can't pick that colour range by colour picker? So - are above features there or not? Thanks again!
  13. Have just purchased a license for Win (works faster in a VM than Mac). Looks promising, thank you for that. Too bad no Linux support in your plans. Some suggestions, if I may. (01) Open file -> preview (01.b) Resize preview area (02) Simpler vector manipulations; now there are: (a) pen, (b) pencil, (c) brush, (d) node, (e) corner - i.e. Five (five!) different tools to do something that could be done with just two - (A) free hand (B) node editor. THAT could have been some major usability improvement. It takes more time to switch between these FIVE than to actually accomplish the task(s); I still could not find a way to join/cut nodes in less than 1 second. Lacking 18 years of practice, perhaps. Escape or double click to join the nodes while in the (d) node editor? That is a well tuned joke, is it not? Esc is being used as cancel, and double clicking within the space of a node rectangle on a 2560 x 1440px workspace might be a good exercise for those with "all the time in the World" at their hands. But you are publishing your product as if you are targeting professionals, are you not? We only have that much of our time. I have even purchased a MX speed gaming keyboard to get a 40% faster click per each key press, to save my time and do more. You want me to double click instead of single click for a node join operation? 1000+ times a day? Seriously? Why not just let the nodes join when these two ends simply meet plus the Shift key, for example? I.e. the respective coordinates if their rectangles are literally joined. I am doing roughly 1000 joins per day during a full creative day. Manually. It is impossible to do it with these ludicrous key combinations. I have tried. Escape and double click AND move to join afterwards? No join in the right click menu with two end nodes selected? Thankfully, there is the only way which is to add a key combination to join and break curves in the the node menu. Paired with the Wacom EK Remote, it becomes usable. Meaning the whole Product starts to make sense for a hardcore daily use. (02.a,b) what is the difference between the (a) pen and (b) pencil please? Yes I understand that "pen" is a free hand node editor whereas "pencil" is a free hand drawing tool in Affinity Designer. But it does not make sense, if any. The real question is - why have you made 2 different tools? It is confusing that (b) pencil may be used for a free hand drawing and (a) pen cannot. It also is not clear why did you need to over complicate things with 5 (five) tools instead of making versatile 2 (TWO) tools only - (A) free hand and (B) node editor. For example, you get (A) free hand the very moment a light/pro pen/mouse/finger touches the drawing surface to basically draw AND you get the (B) node editor when you are using eraser / hit edit button; Just use the node editor to cut/join/move/reshape/create new nodes/delete old ones. (02.c) Why do we need a separate (c) brush tool if it does not react to Wacom Pro Pen pressure levels? Why cannot you just change the size/pattern of the pen/pencil (A free hand) and get the brush functionality in it? Add pressure level recognition to the (A) free hand and you get the "real" brush! Just change the size/pattern of it in the stroke/brushes and that is it. (02.d,e) Why do you or anybody would need two separate (d) node and (e) corner instead of having just one (B) Node editor tool? Neither (d) node nor (e) corner cannot join nodes even with both objects selected even with holding Shift/Ctrl keys together or separately, I have even tried Alt as well. Neither could I cut the joints with either of these tools. I have tried right clicking as well. Maybe it was easier/cheaper to develop it this way, but it makes no sense from the user standpoint. It is NOT intuitive. It is anti-human. It is not usable. It is an anti-thesis of Usability. Yes, Adobe Ai is anti-human, too. It is not intuitive. It is not usable, contrary to the popular belief. And I cannot have it, legally. I mean I cannot install it without internet access. I cannot download it. I cannot reuse it offline after OS reinstall. If you want to sell your tool, the Software, your Product, it should be intuitive; a five year old should be able to use it, but the poor me with 18+ years exclusive vector experience AND patience need to guess how does this work for hours, use Google and Youtube and Vimeo search. I cannot use (d) node to create new nodes neither, I have to use (a) pen tool instead; and even then I cannot create a new node which will be an extension/addition of/to the selected node. Making hard copy manual a hundreds pages tome to show how does it work makes no sense. There should be NO NEED FOR A MANUAL, it should be intuitive. I understand that your business model is targeting profits from selling the manual. Well, your software costs USD 50, Manual USD 54 (no choice of delivery other than standard 5-7 business days). In this fast paced World who will be waiting for 5-7 business days before they will be able to use your commercial product which is unusable otherwise? Seriously? Why not offer DHL Express as an option? Why no digital download option? Yes I want to buy digital version of the manual because obviously - it is cheaper, it is faster, it is less weight and no paper management. Paper books are becoming a hard earned New World luxury. Solution? "Simple" but not easy. Price your tool, the Software, at USD 104 BUT MAKE IT (02.1) INTUITIVE and (02.2) include the manual in PDF download and (02.3) make 1 license per email for all three versions (Linux, Mac, Windows). At this day and age everyone can print anything within 24h, online, with international delivery and/or DHL Express:FedEx/Whatever and/or at home/office. Spare the forest, Gentlemen. How to make it intuitive? Please read the above points again and find a/the five year old/s and teach him/her/them vector drawing with your tool. I do realize that you are facing the legal problem(s) of not being able to hire five year olds for testing as for the tester role and you may be running out of available friends with five year old kids, then you may try first graders by providing vector drawing lessons in their public schools. By doing that you will acquire life long customers. How do I know? Believe it or not, I once was a pupil 18+ years ago. Adobe Illustrator was one of the most complicated tools that I remember. Nothing has changed since then in this regard. It did not make sense to use Ai back then, and it still does not. Same with Corel Draw. (Mind the price). So I was using the fastest vector designing tool in the World. And I was using it even after it was sold to a third party (Magix AG). I have been using it for over 18 years. Daily. And I am only writing this to you free of charge now because I can feel that there are the same people behind Affinity Designer as they were behind that fastest vector designer tool in the World. Behind the you-know-that-name tool, which is still the fastest in the World. I am spending my otherwise paid time to help you develop a better product because (R1) I once was that young person willing to learn vectors design and because (R2) I care about the younger versions of myself - passionate designers, who want to dedicate their tome to vector design and succeed with it. I also trust my feelings and I believe that this Affinity Team may build if not the fastest vector designing tool in the World, but the most intuitive one with the world class usability, which is not found anywhere else. Yes, Adobe Ai is a multi million dollar crap. Nothing personal, Adobe. Whether you would want to listen to this advice or just skip it is up to you. Skipping is faster, cheaper and easier. I have specifically posted it on an online forum (which is yours) so that you at least would not be able to ignore it. To survive current competition with Adobe, you need to do what they can't. That is: precision, user-centered simplicity/usability with low learning curve. Sounds simple, right? Then you will not need to survive, you will thrive. Due to their approach to their own users base, Magix's days are being counted (at least as with their professional audience), that is why I am here among many others - on the market. Corel Draw makes no sense. At their price. Still. Inkscape is too amateurish and is lacking precision, even though it is the only viable vectors editing possibility for Linux. Adobe Ai is over bloated, over complicated with no software ownership by a user. Other than that, they are great. For people working on the new proprietary projects which are and/or will soon become new IP registrations, having proprietary software running behind hardware firewalls is crucially important. I wish and hope that Affinity Designer will become that tool and will thrive. That is my New Hope. (03) When the new document's units are set to px, fonts/lines are expected to be in px as well [but these are still in pt, why is that?] why not let the user decide for all three while creating a new file? (Now it is only in the Preferences -> User Interface -> Show Lines in points, Show Text in points, regardless of what is set in the new file being created) (03.b) Save the objects/line/text units in the file, i.e. Document Settings (04) show 0px line as a 1px retina line (1/4th / ultra-thin) with applicable color to make it still visible but distinguishable from 0.1px/0.1pt line (04.b) currently there is no visual difference between 0.1pt and 0.1px lines, as one would expect 0.1pt line to be slightly thicker than the 0.1px one - like you do it in the Outline mode (04.c) make possible to set a keyboard shortcut for the outline mode AND for the Vector mode to be able to switch between the vector/outline to see what is what within ms of time (05) do NOT automatically change Line/object color (settings [checkbox]) which was previously set by a user - the same settings should be used as set by the user with a previous object (06) Show on the bottom the colors used in the current file as a one line of palette/swatches; (06.b) Save these colors in the file, show the same palette/swatches on the file load; sort by hex value or by time stamp of having being added by the user; (06.c) Allow to delete unused colors (setting[checkbox]) (07) Multiple object per layer (group = layer, SVG) (08) Multiple pages per file (09) Status on the bottom (09.a) selected nn object name(s) [rectangle, circle, star, group] (09.b) what has just happened (10) Three dimensional (3d) Mould tool [vector, raster] (11) Unlimited undo history [from the beginning of creation of the edited file] (11.b) Save undo history to file (settings[checkbox]) (12) Open/Edit/save template (13) Assets are great. How do I create my own assets? (13.b) Proprietary, with a possibility to be shared within a company (proprietary[checkbox].checked=true) (13.c) Publishable, with downloads/voting on your website - should not be too easy to publish to avoid accidental publishing of the proprietary assets (proprietary[checkbox].checked=false) (14) GPU / VRAM acceleration? I mean, I have a quad core i7 6700HQ 64GB DDR4 with NVIDIA GeForce 980m 4GB running on Samsung 950 Pro and need to wait (wait, wait?) while a vector 1pager will load and show up? I do realize that quad core i7 6700HQ is outdated (when you may get a 18 core iMac Pro with 128GB ECC this autumn) and DDR4 SDRAM is worse than ECC but waiting? Seriously? Come on... (15) While pasting the license code in Win version with Ctrl+V it only pastes into the first field which is 4 symbols long; the button "paste" is great, but the user has to make a separate mouse/pen move for this which is OK but Ctrl+V is much more intuitive and faster (Command/Ctrl+X/C/V combination is in human mind and muscles memory since QWERTY personal computing in 1983 / Apple Lisa) (16) The top menu when folding down should be left aligned NOT right aligned. Why? (16.a) Because people born in this part of the world were tuned to read from left to right, and the menu items should be positioned the same way in a single visual column - left to right, which also minimizes mouse movements to navigate within the menu. (16.b) When you want to make it better for your Israeli and Arab (right to left) users, you may want to keep it the same way AND to make the menu items actually be shown from the right to the left, i.e. the contents of the menus should have the same alignment as the menus themselves - right alignment in this particular case for the right to left users. (ZZ) New features requests manager with secure online access for buyers and voting by guys and gals - your verified end customers? (XX) Affiliate system to bring you more buyers? I would like to have 15% off every sale that I generate (like in Amazon) in exchange for a high profile Affinity Designer promotion by me/companies/affiliates. I.e. get a link with an unique affiliate ID for myself/company which will be hidden once clicked and saved as a cookie on the user's PC/Browser. Real-time stats and bimonthly bank transfers please (and/or as soon as hitting a certain minimum per transfer, such as USD 500, for example); the real gold is in corporate sales and these come from the trials, so you need to track my/market's trial installs converted to the sales, if/when you are serious about affiliate for software; (YY) ZenDesk for support, anybody? There are still people out there who prefer emails. No, emails are not "dead". Yes, emails save time. A lot. (WW) No reinstall limits for purchased license(s), please. Thanks. Yes, I run and rerun VMs. A lot. Until you will finally make a Linux version. (VV) The currency in your shop for any and every item(s) is automatically set based on the user's location (like on the eBay), however the user (me) does not have a choice to change the currency (like on the eBay) and some users (like me) do not use currencies of the location of their IPs, and sometimes are not toed to any specific location (it was 2017 last time I checked the calendar). I think that at this day and age this is a surefire way to piss your user off just by limiting their freedom(s). We already have zero freedoms in this World, why cannot I change currency for your wonderful, professionally designed and HQ printed WorkBook, for ones sake? This is about your profits, by the way. (AA) Promise not to downgrade / break / add stupid things please? (I.e. promise NOT becoming anything like Magix AG, anyone? Please. Please? Thank you. No, THANK YOU!!!). Well, yeah, promises are cheap, but anyway... DO NOT SELL AFFINITY DESIGNER except as to your end customers (like me and better than me). Precisely improve the product (and its precision) and sell more licenses instead. Thanks for paying attention. 14. Hi Just a quick question. How do I do this type of thing on Affinity Designer? (I'll see if I can attach an image, can't do it when submitting the topic) I'd like to explore better logo and icon designs but don't know how this can be replicated on AD. Thank you. Oliver
  15. I just bought Affinity Designer yesterday. First of all, great job! I've been working in vector art for over a decade and I'm impressed with your innovation. The good: Your pen tools are far superior to anything else I have used thus far. Awesome set of shape tools - the most comprehensive so far. The visual controls to alter them save me a lot of time ie. rounded corners on the fly. Nice touch with the transparency tool - this was so frustrating in Adobe Illustrator. The customizable UI is sleek and intuitive The bad: Where is the line smoothing? Every vector illustration software I've ever used had this feature. It is standard workflow to 1)rough in your illustration, 2)smooth, then 3)hand edit the node handles. I found something promising in the node area called 'convert to smooth', but it actually added more nodes. This is the exact opposite of what smoothing should do! Where is the raster to vector trace equivalent? I looked everywhere and I can't figure this out. This is such a common function for artists working between mediums - you're basically excluding them right from he start. For reference check out Adobe Illustrator's powerful image trace palette. Restrain proportions/dimensions when resizing elements is not consistent. Placed images and text will stay proportional by holding down ALT. Everything else stays proportional while holding down shift. Why the inconsistency? I can't seem to figure out how to lock objects without having to go to the layer palette and doing it manually. Thanks for the hard work! I've been in software development for 12 years. I know the sacrifices made and wish you the best of luck.
  16. If I have symbols added to the symbols palette, I can not move these to the assets palette to better organize them. I feel this is redundant to have the symbols palette if It can not be organized in Assets. Maybe mixing the assets palette and the symbols palette would be more efficient. That way your symbols are kept organized and there is no need to duplicate effort, create a symbol and then drag it again in your assets palette. I feel a big miss. Efficiency is what we are after. no?
  17. Thank you all for the hard work. Here is a short list of things I'd like to see. I have mentioned a couple before, a few are new but other may have already mentioned them. Node alignment Line erase and trim to line (different that knife or node split tools) Draw shapes on selected axis (ellipses, etc) Eye dropper to copy paste all or some properties of object Callouts (great for parts lists). Perhaps this can be part of the arrowhead feature. Auto numbering would be an awesome bonus. An ai/PS export that works. ;-)
  18. I would love to see you guys having a look at Rhino. This Program has a bunch of awesome features witch would fit in affinity designer just perfectly. For example there are features witch allow the user to array objects along a curve, in a circle or in a rectangle. other handy features are 'connect' witch connects two individual lines by expanding them till they meet up. Fillet, a feature with connects two curves in a circle. they also approach moving a object in a different way, by setting a reference point to move from. This allows the user to move a object in one position by referring two a distance on another object. I don't say you should copy all of the features. I just think some would be really helpful and definitely worth a look. sincerely Marius
  19. hi as part of my uni coursework i need to create a booklet, on Adobe InDesign you can select an option to have facing pages (i.e double page). any idea if/how i can do this on Affinity Designer? many thanks
  20. I work mainly on visual identity projects and have used both Affinity Designer and Photo since they came out on the market. While Affinity Designer is certainly a promising piece of software I could not unfortunately (at this point) use it for professional purposes. I continue to support the developers for their work however I will have to stick to illy for the time being. The features I'll list may have been discussed before but I'll get them in one place to illustrate my point on this. These are a couple of missing features that I bumped in with some attempted projects in Affinity Designer: Most important PDF export as vector. Most clients work with Adobe products so I need to deliver files that will support multiple stop gradients/transparency and eliptical gradients as vector. Bezier handle snap to the grid. This is especially useful for logos and typography Delete control points and break the curve at the same time. Having to break lines separately is a tedious workaround. Shape offset and a better algorithm for point distribution. The current workaround with strokes creates many useless vertices along the path. Split shapes with a single line. Right now the only way I could split a shape is by using another closed shape. Line width control points. I know there is currently a pressure option but it just doesn't cut it for complex situations. I'll be watching the app's updates and activity in case this will get added in a near future. Really looking forward to completing an entire project using Affinity Designer. Cheers and godspeed. :)
  21. Hi, I really want to buy this program because it's awesome, but I have a few question about it. Could you answer to it? 1. When I buy it, then what about re-installing the program? Will I still have the full version? 2. On how many pc I can instal this program? (I have 2 pc and a notebook, and I'd like to have it on all) 3. Is this licence lifetime? And now some questions about features: 4. Are you planning to add blend option for paintbrush? Something like that: http://img08.deviantart.net/ef7e/i/2010/003/4/f/my_photoshop_brushes_by_gijsw.jpg or something like that what I attached to this post. 5. Could you add a name of paintbrush in peinbrush list? I have a lot of paintbrush and I can't be sure which is which without a name. 6. Are you planning add a features which works like "Lazy Nezumi Pro" for Photoshop? I'll be greatful for your help :) Thank you :)
  22. Hi, I'm new to the Serif world and wow, where have I been - I digress. Was wondering if there was a way to create cinemagraphs or plotagraphs using Designer? Just wondering as this would be a super awesome feature and I could use just one awesome tool. Thanks in advance
  23. Here's a tiny list of topics within Affinity Photo for Windows I'd like to address as important improvements that need implementation from a professional photographers point of view (Based on version 1.5.1.54 Final). I'm aware that some points have been mentioned by other useres already. It would be great to get some kind of feedback from serif staff with regards to the likelyhood of implementation. I'll try to extend this list when new topics come up. Please do not see most of these points as "nice to have" additions or "customer dreaming", but essential improvements required(!) for any kind of professional workflow. The list does not cover obvious minor or major bugs as they get tracked by serif staff anyhow I suppose. As well I'm aware that some of my suggestions have already internally been rejected and implemented differently as "By Design" - maybe there's a chance to reconsider this decisions. A suggestion could be to start a discussion in the forum with your customers to see what's their preferred way to handle the implementation. Basic workflow/Window handling: - When undocking a document window from the workspace it should automatically adapt document window to document size (or maximum window size with scrollbars if document is larger) - maybe selectable in the preferences - When zooming in or out a document window size should automatically adapt to document size (or maximum window size with scrollbars if document is larger) - maybe as a setting selectable in the preferences - After resizing an undocked window the document shoud automatically be centered within the new window dimensions - One should be able to drag and drop a layer from one document into another document (not just with CTRL+c CTRL+v) - The area where one can grab the frame of a window for resizing shoud be enlarged - Pressing ENTER or ESC should confirm or cancel a dialog - as defined in windows UI standards (e.g. in crop mode none of the keys work) Macros: - (multiple) layer selection should be recordable - colour assignment to objects should be recordable - for macros it would be good if resizing of a document could be based on a maximum side lenght regardles if the document is landscape or portrait - Make conditional decisions available (e.g.: IF (DocHight > DocWidth) THAN ... ELSE ...) Alternatively include some kind of JavaScript language. - Include "Export" functionality with parameters as part of Macro recording - Add customizable keyboard shortcuts to dedicated macros Other: - it would be important to be able to make a selection based on a colour(range) (including tolerance, adding and subtracting from a previously chosen colour range) - not only based on the 3 base colour as currently implemented. - if unproportional cropping is selected it would be good to temporarily switch to "original proportion" cropping or fixing the current proportion by pressing the Alt or Ctrl key - optional parameter adaption for certain filters (e.g. gaussian blur) when resizing a document to fit the new dimensions. Currently unadapted parameters of these filters wreck every document after resizing. - icon size in the layer panel should be definable (similar to PS where 3 sizes are available) - I'd prefere to have one common command (keyboard shortcut) for the brush size and not a seperate one for each tool. - Saving setting and content for parameter fileds and pathes would save much time. Just some exaples: 1) Export preferences (They are continuously back to stupid *.png instead my predefinde personal settings ...) 2) Parameter for live filters (e.g. gaussian blur or unsharp mask) 3) Parameter for fx settings 4) Cropping Mode (setting keeps switching back to useless "unconditioned") 5) Resize method (e.g. bilinear/bicubic) - at least the standard setting should be something usable instead of bilinear! - Assistant settings should be global and part of the preferences (e.g. adding new layers on same levels as selected layer or as a child) - Make all variables available in fields that allow calculations (e.g. transforming) - Make the frequency layer seperation parameters editable like in live filters - Increase maximum size of liquify brush - Increase parameter range of many FX settings - Would like to save a list of export settings (Slices) as one preference in the Export persona - a proper "flatten image" and "flatten group" command would be nice (combining layer in AP is not intuitive and effortless at all! Just take a look how PS does it ...) - auto-adapt parameters of filters when scaling objects (e.g. gaussian blur, fx-settings) - in low resoloution the fx parameters are by far not precise enough (e.g. a picture with 800x600px can't deal wit a shadow in a watermark between 0.1 and 0.0 px-precision) - make live adjustments/filters masks directly visible as an overlay. - When a graphic in the OS (e.g. Windows) is copied via CTRL-C it would be great when clicking on "new document" within AP the dimensions of the clipboard picture would be automatically copied as a preset for this new document - assistant should add new layer even when flood fill tool is used - Numerical scaling through the transformation dialog should optionally allow scling of textsize in related objects as well. - Would be nice to display Colour Mode and bit depth behind the filename in the document window (as PS does it) - Help files often does not open (wrong focus, dialog open that does not recognise help key) - include "AutoClip" option in filters that change document or layer dimensions (e.g. most of the distortion filters) - A new document should automatically have a pixel layer as the background layer (alternatively all tools that require a pixel layer should automatically add this layer - maybe an extension of the assistant) - Metadata Editor (This is a high priority for everyone supplying stock content) - Flood Fill with bitmap pattern - Include a small button next to the fg/bg colour circle to reset it to black/white - Global definition of standard grid setting - Definition of standard output profile from the develop persona - Provide picture thumbnails in Windows File Explorer - Spiral Tool - Improved Transform panel functionality (e.g. radius for circles) Performance: - Serious improvement of InPainting tool performance! - Multiple layer performance Cheers, Timo
  24. Affinity designer things I would like to see. Things I regularly use. Transform by value: being able to transform to Fit an area or by a percentage. By the way, when you move the rotation point off of the object, say to the center of a large complex set of feathers in a circle and you are placing objects around the edge, the rotate handle works but the rotate by value in the transform panel does not, is is restricted to the points available in its selection box. You should be able to change the order in which effects are placed on an object or layer. I have some real problems often when for example placing a artistic text object, setting fill and stroke, then adding a second border with the outline effect then wanting a glow behind that, it is often hardly visible if at all. ( I have seen some talk that things to make this better are in the works) The 3d and bevel/emboss effects seem sub-par, although admittedly maybe I have not figured out how to use them properly yet I am not sure. Being able to re-position the 0x0 point of a document would be super helpful. I already ran into a situation where the boss was upset I could not do that. Some advanced vector transforms / effects would be super too. Like in Fireworks panel, see attached image. You do have Convert strokes to fills. Extrude would be great. Also nice would be Open/Close Contours, Blend Paths. And with the End points the weld, join, knife on point, make handles tangent, and make handles same length. I do not know what your plan or needs are with separation of tools between designer and photo but the wand tool is something I use hundreds of times a day. That and clone. As I am often working repairing something that the source files have been lost. I have purchased both programs so if I have to learn to jump back and forth I will. But it would be nice. Now do not get me wrong, I know you have been working your asses off, I know this is a young product. I am super excited about this product and look for word to all it brings. And I am extremely great-full that you have made this product and put so much hard work into it. I have used Fireworks Since Macromedia first released it in version 1. I am very much looking to becoming a guru of Affinity. And any tips you have to guide me to that end are appreciated also. I know I have a lot to learn and I want to learn it all. Thank you to each and every one of you.
  25. I will use this thread for all of my future feature requests, unless my requests fit in under an already posted thread, in which case I will post/reply to that thread. If you see any requests that have already been posted somewhere or are already being worked on, let me know and I will update this thread! Requests 2016-11-24 (Affinity 1.5.0.36): A fill/flood tool for the vector part of Affinity. Ex: If clicked on an empty canvas it would create a shape of the canvas with no stroke, only a fill with the currently selected color. Seems to be worked on already, according to the roadmap! A multi-select option when editing text An option in the snapping options to affect vertices as well. Ex: When you create a rectangle and then add a node in the middle on one side and slide it, that it could snap to the middle point between those two nodes. Another nice option would be if you could make vertices (and other objects as well), snap to the straight horizontal/vertical and all of the diagonal snaps without being relative to the starting-point. Also a mirror mode would be nice. It would be a mode that lets you affect two sides of an item at the same time. An option to alter the diagonal snapping angels. This option could be visible at all times for easy access or it could be implemented in the appropriate context sensitive menus. One could use presets or input directly with desired value. If dragging an object with nodes/handles, that there would be a node/handle snap option, so that when the nodes of the dragged object come near another object's node(s), that it snaps to it. Ability to mark/manipulate two or more node/vertex handles at the same time and maybe a way to copy a node's parameters and paste them? Option to resize UI elements and the layer thumbnails. Ex: Small, medium and large. The option could reside in the "Customize Toolbar" window. When dragging layers, it would be nice if you could hold a hotkey to have layers not wanting to be group, only arranged. Also, vice versa. When arranging layers, when dragged atop one another, that the layer beneath the "grabbed" layer gets highlighted and if released, grouped. A little more margin would be nice, so that you have more space where it would group it and you would have to go more to the "top" of the layer icon to have the grabbed layer be placed above it. I don't know if it is a bug or anything, but at the moment you can't resize panels vertically, only horizontally. If it's not a bug, I would find it nice to be able to do that, at least on the layers panel. An option to be able to merge vertices when on top of each other, but also expanding this feature to be able to merge vertices; to center, to horizontal/vertical center, to left/right diagonal center, to first/last selected etc. Expanded functionality for the "Arrange" tool so that it would work on vertices. That would make arranging vertices easier. Make so that the rotation center affects the flip horizontal and vertical actions, since right now it only affects rotation origin. When you choose "None" in the color-wheel panel, it would be nice if you could press the "None" button again to get the "deleted" color back. (Right now you can use "Ctrl+Z" to get "around" this, but if you only realize you want that previous color back later, after a lot of actions, then the previously mentioned method would be superb!) Having a "swap" button whenever there is a "fill/stroke" option, in the context sensitive menus so that you don't have to look for the color-wheel. Or have "X" key actually flip the colors, not just flip between what color is selected. Can be done with "Shift+X". This will flip the colors around. Slide vertices along path. Use "ESC" to deselect text bar/editing (Can be done by "Ctrl+D") A hotkey for deleting layers. Ex: Like when a layer is selected, pressing "DEL" would delete it. Perspective scaling and warping. Seems to be worked on already, according to the roadmap! When in any menu with many check-boxes, that you could hold "Ctrl" when clicking a box to uncheck everything but the checkbox you clicked. Could be nice for the layer panel and it's visibility toggles. A "focus" hotkey, maybe on "F". Ex: If something is selected and you press "F", the screen zooms in on it and fits it to the screen's width and height. If nothing selected and the user press's "F", it fits the canvas to the window screen. Can be done, somewhat, by double-clicking on the thumbnails of layers. Although I would still think a button would speed up workflow. A button that says "Assign" and "Cancel" when in the gradient menu, since right now if you go to the gradient menu you have to click/move the "midpoint" slider in order to assign the gradient to the selected object. If you just go to the gradient menu and click outside of menu it doesn't get assigned. Also a value to set the "hardness/softness" of the blend between both colors would be nice. An option/hotkey in the "Eyedropper" to be able to select single color or whole gradient. Automatically deselect the previously selected node in the pressure customization window so that the automatically selected node doesn't fly all over the place when you go in and try to select another node without thinking. More tools to customize pressure. Ex: Ability to enter x and y values for nodes, enabling/disabling node snapping. An option in the settings menu to be able to set whether all of the layers/slices should automatically be added/checked for export or not. This could also be remedied by the "hold a button to deselect all other check-boxes" feature suggested above. Object based gradient (linear). This is a big one, but the premise would be that you could have a linear gradient "follow" the "flow/direction" of an object by manually placing points on the object to assist Affinity in knowing the "flow/direction" that the gradient should go. It would be nice if Affinity could do some own calculations and perhaps automate the procedure, but that is only if it is possible. Some kind of command to open a "transform" box/controls around the currently selected objects/vertices at any time. This way you could manipulate a group of selected vertices in various ways. Convert "Stroke" to object/solid/fill. The program could do a trace around it or something. The use for this is that I sometimes find myself doing a shape with the "Pen Tool" using only stroke to get the shape I want since it is way easier, but then I realize that I have to go to long way around since you can't make your stroke into an object. Apparently, this is already possible by going "Layer>Expand Stroke" in the top menus with the stroke selected. Thanks to member "JotHa" for telling me! The "Outline" effect doesn't currently have an option to choose whether the edges of the outline should be hard/chiseled or rounded. Would be nice with a way to change this. Some controls/attribute windows that are a digits/values could have that if you hover your mouse over the attribute's name, the cursor would turn into two arrows pointing away from each other, and if you then proceed to hold down and drag with your mouse, you could adjust the value by dragging left or right instead of having to have a slider or manually enter different values for testing. Ex: "Dash width=1", if you placed your mouse over "Dash width" and dragged, the mouse cursor would turn into two arrows pointing away from each other and you could adjust the value by dragging left or right. The gradient swatches could be displayed on the swatches page as well as on the gradients page, since having to switch to swatches just to have access to the gradients feels slow. Snap to curve option. A checkbox that enables "Curve to Curve" snapping and then curves closest to each other would snap together. An option to cut with the following way. Select a "Cut Tool" and press node one and node 2. The program will now create a cut between these two nodes. An option would decide if, when the cut is done, if it makes a gap or not between the two now separate pieces. This or a hotkey where you just have to click somewhere on a path and Affinity would cut there. A "Studio" panel where you can save symbols for later use, so you don't have to have an Affinity file where you keep a bunch of symbols. This could be separate "Studio" or be implemented into the already existing "Studio>Symbols" panel. This way you would have icons/symbols that you want to use across multiple projects, close and convenient. It could be as simple as a folder where, when clicking a "Save Selected" button, Affinity would save the selected graphic and just read them from there, showing a small preview of the items in that folder. This would make for "easy" implementation of said function and would yield users easy access and editing of saved icons/symbols. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you like any of the suggestions made, you can use the poll at the top to vote for the feature that sounds the most interesting/fun/useful!
