  1. Affinity designer things I would like to see. Things I regularly use. Transform by value: being able to transform to Fit an area or by a percentage. By the way, when you move the rotation point off of the object, say to the center of a large complex set of feathers in a circle and you are placing objects around the edge, the rotate handle works but the rotate by value in the transform panel does not, is is restricted to the points available in its selection box. You should be able to change the order in which effects are placed on an object or layer. I have some real problems often when for example placing a artistic text object, setting fill and stroke, then adding a second border with the outline effect then wanting a glow behind that, it is often hardly visible if at all. ( I have seen some talk that things to make this better are in the works) The 3d and bevel/emboss effects seem sub-par, although admittedly maybe I have not figured out how to use them properly yet I am not sure. Being able to re-position the 0x0 point of a document would be super helpful. I already ran into a situation where the boss was upset I could not do that. Some advanced vector transforms / effects would be super too. Like in Fireworks panel, see attached image. You do have Convert strokes to fills. Extrude would be great. Also nice would be Open/Close Contours, Blend Paths. And with the End points the weld, join, knife on point, make handles tangent, and make handles same length. I do not know what your plan or needs are with separation of tools between designer and photo but the wand tool is something I use hundreds of times a day. That and clone. As I am often working repairing something that the source files have been lost. I have purchased both programs so if I have to learn to jump back and forth I will. But it would be nice. Now do not get me wrong, I know you have been working your asses off, I know this is a young product. I am super excited about this product and look for word to all it brings. And I am extremely great-full that you have made this product and put so much hard work into it. I have used Fireworks Since Macromedia first released it in version 1. I am very much looking to becoming a guru of Affinity. And any tips you have to guide me to that end are appreciated also. I know I have a lot to learn and I want to learn it all. Thank you to each and every one of you.
  2. I will use this thread for all of my future feature requests, unless my requests fit in under an already posted thread, in which case I will post/reply to that thread. If you see any requests that have already been posted somewhere or are already being worked on, let me know and I will update this thread! Requests 2016-11-24 (Affinity 1.5.0.36): A fill/flood tool for the vector part of Affinity. Ex: If clicked on an empty canvas it would create a shape of the canvas with no stroke, only a fill with the currently selected color. Seems to be worked on already, according to the roadmap! A multi-select option when editing text An option in the snapping options to affect vertices as well. Ex: When you create a rectangle and then add a node in the middle on one side and slide it, that it could snap to the middle point between those two nodes. Another nice option would be if you could make vertices (and other objects as well), snap to the straight horizontal/vertical and all of the diagonal snaps without being relative to the starting-point. Also a mirror mode would be nice. It would be a mode that lets you affect two sides of an item at the same time. An option to alter the diagonal snapping angels. This option could be visible at all times for easy access or it could be implemented in the appropriate context sensitive menus. One could use presets or input directly with desired value. If dragging an object with nodes/handles, that there would be a node/handle snap option, so that when the nodes of the dragged object come near another object's node(s), that it snaps to it. Ability to mark/manipulate two or more node/vertex handles at the same time and maybe a way to copy a node's parameters and paste them? Option to resize UI elements and the layer thumbnails. Ex: Small, medium and large. The option could reside in the "Customize Toolbar" window. When dragging layers, it would be nice if you could hold a hotkey to have layers not wanting to be group, only arranged. Also, vice versa. When arranging layers, when dragged atop one another, that the layer beneath the "grabbed" layer gets highlighted and if released, grouped. A little more margin would be nice, so that you have more space where it would group it and you would have to go more to the "top" of the layer icon to have the grabbed layer be placed above it. I don't know if it is a bug or anything, but at the moment you can't resize panels vertically, only horizontally. If it's not a bug, I would find it nice to be able to do that, at least on the layers panel. An option to be able to merge vertices when on top of each other, but also expanding this feature to be able to merge vertices; to center, to horizontal/vertical center, to left/right diagonal center, to first/last selected etc. Expanded functionality for the "Arrange" tool so that it would work on vertices. That would make arranging vertices easier. Make so that the rotation center affects the flip horizontal and vertical actions, since right now it only affects rotation origin. When you choose "None" in the color-wheel panel, it would be nice if you could press the "None" button again to get the "deleted" color back. (Right now you can use "Ctrl+Z" to get "around" this, but if you only realize you want that previous color back later, after a lot of actions, then the previously mentioned method would be superb!) Having a "swap" button whenever there is a "fill/stroke" option, in the context sensitive menus so that you don't have to look for the color-wheel. Or have "X" key actually flip the colors, not just flip between what color is selected. Can be done with "Shift+X". This will flip the colors around. Slide vertices along path. Use "ESC" to deselect text bar/editing (Can be done by "Ctrl+D") A hotkey for deleting layers. Ex: Like when a layer is selected, pressing "DEL" would delete it. Perspective scaling and warping. Seems to be worked on already, according to the roadmap! When in any menu with many check-boxes, that you could hold "Ctrl" when clicking a box to uncheck everything but the checkbox you clicked. Could be nice for the layer panel and it's visibility toggles. A "focus" hotkey, maybe on "F". Ex: If something is selected and you press "F", the screen zooms in on it and fits it to the screen's width and height. If nothing selected and the user press's "F", it fits the canvas to the window screen. Can be done, somewhat, by double-clicking on the thumbnails of layers. Although I would still think a button would speed up workflow. A button that says "Assign" and "Cancel" when in the gradient menu, since right now if you go to the gradient menu you have to click/move the "midpoint" slider in order to assign the gradient to the selected object. If you just go to the gradient menu and click outside of menu it doesn't get assigned. Also a value to set the "hardness/softness" of the blend between both colors would be nice. An option/hotkey in the "Eyedropper" to be able to select single color or whole gradient. Automatically deselect the previously selected node in the pressure customization window so that the automatically selected node doesn't fly all over the place when you go in and try to select another node without thinking. More tools to customize pressure. Ex: Ability to enter x and y values for nodes, enabling/disabling node snapping. An option in the settings menu to be able to set whether all of the layers/slices should automatically be added/checked for export or not. This could also be remedied by the "hold a button to deselect all other check-boxes" feature suggested above. Object based gradient (linear). This is a big one, but the premise would be that you could have a linear gradient "follow" the "flow/direction" of an object by manually placing points on the object to assist Affinity in knowing the "flow/direction" that the gradient should go. It would be nice if Affinity could do some own calculations and perhaps automate the procedure, but that is only if it is possible. Some kind of command to open a "transform" box/controls around the currently selected objects/vertices at any time. This way you could manipulate a group of selected vertices in various ways. Convert "Stroke" to object/solid/fill. The program could do a trace around it or something. The use for this is that I sometimes find myself doing a shape with the "Pen Tool" using only stroke to get the shape I want since it is way easier, but then I realize that I have to go to long way around since you can't make your stroke into an object. Apparently, this is already possible by going "Layer>Expand Stroke" in the top menus with the stroke selected. Thanks to member "JotHa" for telling me! The "Outline" effect doesn't currently have an option to choose whether the edges of the outline should be hard/chiseled or rounded. Would be nice with a way to change this. Some controls/attribute windows that are a digits/values could have that if you hover your mouse over the attribute's name, the cursor would turn into two arrows pointing away from each other, and if you then proceed to hold down and drag with your mouse, you could adjust the value by dragging left or right instead of having to have a slider or manually enter different values for testing. Ex: "Dash width=1", if you placed your mouse over "Dash width" and dragged, the mouse cursor would turn into two arrows pointing away from each other and you could adjust the value by dragging left or right. The gradient swatches could be displayed on the swatches page as well as on the gradients page, since having to switch to swatches just to have access to the gradients feels slow. Snap to curve option. A checkbox that enables "Curve to Curve" snapping and then curves closest to each other would snap together. An option to cut with the following way. Select a "Cut Tool" and press node one and node 2. The program will now create a cut between these two nodes. An option would decide if, when the cut is done, if it makes a gap or not between the two now separate pieces. This or a hotkey where you just have to click somewhere on a path and Affinity would cut there. A "Studio" panel where you can save symbols for later use, so you don't have to have an Affinity file where you keep a bunch of symbols. This could be separate "Studio" or be implemented into the already existing "Studio>Symbols" panel. This way you would have icons/symbols that you want to use across multiple projects, close and convenient. It could be as simple as a folder where, when clicking a "Save Selected" button, Affinity would save the selected graphic and just read them from there, showing a small preview of the items in that folder. This would make for "easy" implementation of said function and would yield users easy access and editing of saved icons/symbols. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you like any of the suggestions made, you can use the poll at the top to vote for the feature that sounds the most interesting/fun/useful! 3. I follow every update from the beginning of beta, and I am delighted with the fast moving development. You guys are wizards! Can I ask you to do even a little bit of magic in your wonderful app: Aligning to the key object (ctrl+left-click on the object to select it as a key) , and repeat the last transformation (ctrl+d in Illustrator)?
  4. Affiniti wonderful application, and I would very much like to use it as my main instrument, but he still lacks some features: - repeat the last operation, or arrays (without this tool creating patterns turns into hell) - alignment on the key element
  5. Will the windows version have feature parity with the Mac version? or will it lag behind in terms of development?
  6. This is my list of feature requests so I can completely ditch illustrator. While I love Affinity Designer and bought it to support development, It doesn't fully replace Illustrator because of a few key features that are missing: Feature Request List: 1) Path offset 2) Shape builder 3) Snap to intersection between 2 paths (This has been fixed in the latest 1.5 beta) 4) Snap to self/copy. (i.e. when I drag and object it should snap to its previous position, or if I Alt drag a copy of an object it should snap to the original object). Existing Features That Are Buggy: 1) Expanding a stroke creates way too many verts Other Low Priority Features: 1) Use saved pressure curves across documents
  7. great work I hope you could support these features smart objects selection with pen tool in designer shape builder Arabic support thanks
  8. It would be a very useful feature to copy the features of a text , color type, size and color contour like Corel Draw funcion.
  9. Hi! Today icon fonts are a de-facto in UI design and there are tons of libraries available. It would be very useful to have a glyph palette or studio to list them all for quick&dirty usage in projects. Just a simple grid should work. Pick or double click to insert them in a text object. I know you love to do things "the very Serif way" so candies such as CSS escape code or hex code label for each character should be a well praised feature! :) Cheers!
  10. Having come late to Affinity I noticed immediately that it appeared to lack a cutout tool to isolate and remove/add shapes from photos. Have I missed it? Indeed, have I missed the purpose of the program? Enlightenment is power.
  11. Anyone aware of a way to apply noise fill to a multiple selection of objects? I've been doing a workaround with a layer over the top and multiply, but it's not exactly what I'm after. If not, can I request it as a feature? :)
  12. I would like to see AD have certain things I use all the time in AI. 1. A way of displaying and applying all glyphs in an OpenType, including all variants and alternates. 2. Optical Kerning. 3. Optical Margin Alignment. Thanks, CM
  13. I seem to have pasted an object using a pattern fill from AI into AD. Surprisingly, AD seems to support this just fine, and hasn't rasterised it or anything. Having said that, I've been wracking my brain trying to work out if I can edit the pattern from within AD, or even create new ones. Coming up blank on that. Any help? I've attached the file, you want to look at the bottom layer (Layer 2) and the related swatch is in the swatches palette. Dan
  14. Maybe we should all be looking to PhotoLine, Gimp, Scribus and InkScape for feature inspiration rather than Adobe, Corel and Xara. At least we'd know that the features are possible and available for implementation rather than blocked by a murder of laywers looking for a creative way to crush the little upstart. Any thoughts on this?
  15. First of all, great product! Several of the things I'm wishing for are already on the roadmap, so I won't bother wasting your time repeating them here. So first of all, my gripes. After first buying this illustration software, I was literally dumbfounded at the lack of a dedicated LINE tool. I finally figured out how to use the pen tool to accomplish the task (awkward). I was then blown away by the complete lack of arrows for the ends of line segments (I mean, even the most basic drawing program nowadays has these things). Those are probably two of my biggest gripes. And as for the Arrow shape tool, control of the arrowheads at each end using the toolbar was really cumbersome until I figured out to use the control points (toolbar controls not very intuitive). Additionally, I don't particularly care for the Command-J shortcut for the Duplicate function, but I can live with it. Also, I would prefer to have the VIEW commands available from a pop-up menu somewhere within the workspace window. It's also rather awkward in my opinion not having access to a document window's title bar, as I routinely do things like duplicate the current file or revealing the file in the Finder, all from the title bar; I know I can accomplish the same tasks another way, but it's not normal. With your Callout tools (rounded rectangle and ellipse), I found it disappointing that it's so cumbersome to attach text to the callout (I mean that's the whole point of a callout isn't it?); whenever I would try to attach text to a callout using the Frame Text tool, the callout itself would disappear! And when I created dashed lines, the controls available for dashed lines didn't do what I expected (as far as dash spacing), and turned out to be very unintuitive. When creating text on a path, it's unclear to me how the software decides whether to place the text on the outside or inside of the path (it seemed rather random to me). Also, twice in a row, when attempting to use the Intersect tool with two simple overlapping shapes (an oval and an arrow shape), it would lock up the program (progress bar running indefinitely). And another thing… I discovered that once you fill a shape with a gradient, there's no obvious way to get rid of the gradient and go back to a simple color fill without going through the extra steps of filling both ends of the gradient with the same color. Those are my main complaints; now on to feature requests. While we're talking about gradients, I would like to see the ability to do compound gradients (more than two color points). I would also very much like to see text morphing capabilities in Designer (the lack of such capability is especially curious since it's available in Affinity Photo). Anyway, that's all for now. I'm sure I'll come up with more as I use the program more. Thanks for listening.
  16. Please include a killer slideshow module in a future version of Affinity Photo. We do slideshows all the time at our camera club and I also do them for weddings, memorial services, etc. There really isn't a great tool for that on the Mac. On the PC, ProShow is available, but I don't want to put Windows on my Mac just for that. FotoMagico is merely okay. I think you can do better!
  17. It would be great if the rulers had the following functionality: Right-click: change units Cllick and drag on the upper left corner: Set the page's origin (zero point) Shit-drag: moves the guides in whole digit and fractional increments (0.25", 0.5", etc.) This could also be a Preference setting (increments). Additional unit: Percentage (of document width and height), so I can drop a guide at 25%, 50% of the width or height of document... real handy :)
  18. Russell Brown here — no, not the one from Adobe but I *am* the author of Paths to Artistic imaging in Photoshop (ISBN 978-0-987574-60-2 ) Nevertheless, I for one would be delighted to see a viable, professional alternative to Photoshop and will be happy to make suggestions, should they be helpful. I have installed Affinity Photo today and have only had time for a brief look, but I already have some observations and will add more here, as I find them. I have noticed some others already making similar suggestions, however I felt that it would be better if I start my own thread to keep all my ideas in the one place. The main issue I have so far in that raw (NEF) files opened in Develop Persona are doing some strange things. It would be good if the default processing on opening could be switched off permanently as an option and where is the white balance adjustment for Tini? As it is, this module is a bit clunky and could do with some refinement. Ajustments to the sliders are difficult and can't be adjusted finely, as one can with the arrow keys in Photoshop. ACR is quick and intuitive but so far, Develop Persona is not. In the main program, can you add an option to have finer grid squares in the Curve dialog box? In PS, one can Option-click in the dialog to get the extra grid lines, making fine adjustments easier. Double clicking in the workspace in PS is a quick was to open a file. Can this be incorporated into AP? Do you have plans for a Bridge style image viewer to make selecting files easier and quicker? In the Channels palette, could you add the composite image, so that after working on individual channels, I can easily return to the composite image? At the moment, it seems that I have to click on each of the other channels, including Alpha, before I can see the composite image again. Do we have an Info palette and can we add sample points to an image for precise colour adjustment? This is essential and I can't see anything in the Help section about it. While we're on the subject, some diagrams and info are missing from Help. More to come....! Thanks.
  19. Hi, Congratulations on the exciting software release! Looking forward to using AD and the whole suite when it's here. I'd like to know how often do you plan to update the Designer? Will you rather wait longer and add as much new features as possible or implement a more rapid update cycle? I think it would be better from the user perspective to see more frequent updates with less new features rather than wait for a whole bunch months but understand it may be difficult given the infamous App Store approval process ;) Thanks and keep up the good work!
  20. Rather than on the Affinity Facebook page, I'll post my suggestions here. As I said, as a Freehand user, I miss a simple but complete Transform pad, including x-y move tool (with duplicate options), percentage scaling (with options like scale strokes, content...), flipping, etc. I know the page features will grow in the upcoming version but including configurable bleeding space around the pages (to manage crop marks and other useful information) would be great.
  21. Hi! I had this idea. When you make a websites the best way to see how people use the interface is actually seeing them use it, perform tasks. The real users, people who have not seen the wireframes, and are not in the website biz. A lot of the time this points out things like: UI elements you thought were clear, no-brainers are not People use the UI / site in different ways than you had thought of Where people "get lost" Where people expect things to be What elements people love Watching people use your UI can be a real eye opener sometimes. So why not do this for AD? While it would be nice to fly in people from all over the world it might be more efficient to have people record a drawing / AD session. This would be most effective if people had a microfone, to explain what they were doing, what they were expecting to happen. I'm sure this would deliver a ton of insight. // Edit: And if you had the same person do/ draw something similar in Ai, you could compare that, see what they love & use there...
