  1. Selecting stroke and fill colors with the eyedropper tool in the Appearance tab no longer works starting in version 2.4.0. I tested by rolling back to 2.3.1 and it works fine in that version, but it doesn't work with 2.4.0 and 2.4.1. When you click and drag the eyedropper tool on any color (regardless of whether it's in the app, the canvas, the MacOS desktop, etc) the colored circle next to it stays black and never changes. The regular eyedropper tool does work but it's a lot more annoying to use because I have to keep context switching out of the mini pop up window for selecting colors. I am using a 2021 MacBook Pro M1 with Sonoma 14.1.1. I tested with just the laptop screen, an external monitor only, and extended mode with both the laptop screen and external monitor and it's the same behavior for all three cases. I have the Screen Recording permissions enabled for Affinity Designer.
  2. It would be great to have the ability to set the white, grey and black points using the eyedropper tool. Having switched from PS this is a feature that I really miss - especially when working with scanned images to ensure that the white balance is correct and the background is 100% white.
  3. Hi support If I create a CYMK document and select a colour and make a square. Then I make another square and use the eyedropper tool to to make the second square the same colour as the first square, it does this but changes the HEX code to one outside of the CYMK gamut. For example #35286f becomes #0b00a8. How can I stop this from happening, is it a bug or something. I would like the same hex code carried a cross from one square to the next. Thanks.
  4. Can we add Black, Gray and White eyedroppers in "Levels" and "Curves" to help accurately adjust white balance
  5. Hi, I am having an issue where any colour I select with the eyedropper tool or when I select a colour in any swatch, the colour that is applied will be a grey. I cannot get any colour to be applied with any tool. Selecting any colour (such as blue /red etc) will result in an equivalent shade of grey being selected. I cannot work out what I have done to make this happen! Please Help! Charles
  6. Hi all! I'm a lamster from adobe illustrator. My question is about matching stoke style in AD: 1. I found a similar tool as Eyedropper in illustrator called Colour Picker Tool. Does this tool have the same function in illustrator? 2. When I use Colour Picker Tool, it just copies the colour information. Can the Colour Picker Tool copy the line stoke information as Eyedropper in illustrator? For example, I draw a line with Black stoke colour and 1mm width. Now I want to apply this line style it to another line. In Ai, I need to use Eyedropper tool to inject the style. What should I do in AD? Thanks! Hao
  7. I need to create similar objects with same color/attributes/styles, but different shape The current only way is inefficient (Create a style) Eyedropper tool would facilitate this task Color picker could be upgraded (Would need to rename the tool), adding options (with check boxes) for Copy effects - Copy color (Also gradient attributes) - Copy Stroke style - Etc. Like this: ro That or add a brand new eyedropper tool for the software _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ In addition, I suggest a miscellaneous shortcut for "Add Style from Selection"
  8. I recently saw this post by @ivanozzo sharing a great resource for gradients and colour ramps, but I couldn't figure out how to easily use the eyedropper tool with the gradient in order to copy them into Affinity Photo. After a long time playing around, eventually I sussed it out - so here's a tutorial for anyone else who needs this!
  9. After watching the tutorial about the Frame Text tool, I tried adding a fill and/or colored stroke to an existing text frame. I wanted to exactly match a specific color, so I clicked on the eyedropper in the Text Frame tool panel on the right side of the workspace as was shown in the video. Instead of getting the eyedropper, the color was set to black. Moving the cursor out over the document did not provide an eyedropper. I had the same result whether attempting to use it for frame fill or frame stroke. I'm using MacOS 10.13.6 (High Sierra) and version 1.7.1 of Publsher. Is this a known issue?
  10. Hello Affinity Photo development team, I'm a newbie to your program, but have worked as a digital illustrator for several years. Affinity Photo is a really nice program - a nice alternative to Photoshop. It could be a great program for digital illustrators and painters... But it is missing a critical option for higher speed efficiency: a fast color picker option by pressing "Ctrl" or "Alt" This is present in Photoshop, Corel Painter, Krita, OpenCanvas, PaintStorm Studio, etc. It is very important to painters to be able to access the color picker quickly. When you hold down "Ctrl" or "Alt" and click on the color - it color picks it. Then when you let go of the "Ctrl" or "Alt" key, it goes back to the tool you were using before. When you have to switch between brush and color picker, this wastes twice the amount of time. An extra second or fraction of a second may not seem like a lot - but it adds up. A painting that would take 2 hours, takes 4 hours. A piece that would take 1 day, takes 2 days. 1 week turns into 2 weeks, etc. This would be a great addition to Affinity Photo - for all artists. One last idea... Is allowing the user to "fix" the color wheel triangle in a fixed position - instead of having it rotate all around pointing at the chosen color. Why? Because having lightness point up, darkness point down, and saturation point right - is far easier for the brain to process than having the triangle flip all around the wheel... it makes picking specific shades across different colors inconsistent.. harder to match the same saturation position on different colors... because it has changed position. It's easier for the brain to map out the color triangle when it's fixed in one position. White up - black down - and saturation to the right.. Would be far easier to remember for artists - who need consistency, and speed in color picking. Thank you immensely for viewing and considering these ideas!!
  11. Hi, It would be really helpful if you guys add the Eye-dropper to the color picker panel of the Lens Filter adjustment layer. Thanks!
  12. Hello, I'm using Affinity Photo on 64 bit Windows 8. In some files when I use eyedropper tool, the color I pick up is way darker than the original. I wonder why that might be? In other files I don't encounter that issue. I first started that file in Designer trial, and then continued in Photo. Can it be the reason? How do I fix that? It's really slowing down my work.
  13. Using Photo trial 1.6.4.104 . Edit : In Windows 7, Wacom Intuos Pro 4 XL. The problem : The current interactive color picker tool, that is, switching to pick color with alt key, or my case, side pen button configured as alt key, while you are with the brush tool, to very quick pick a color between 2 big chunks of painted color, so to paint with an intermediate color. This is very very fast and common technique for color blending while painting. There are many other painting, illustration or texture making techniques that also need fast color picking. To all of those, this problem applies. The problem resides in several issues that I believe get solved with an easy solution. The magnifier lens that show up once you click on a canvas point (I am clicking, not dragging) to let you better pick the pixel you want is very good for photography but not important for painting. And I believe it is causing to lag the action, has a sort of small time there very noticeable when using very often, very fast (a need for painting-blending, also called glazing technique). Sometimes, if fast enough wont pick the color, at times. It's a bit hard to work so when painting (loosing focus, slowing down, etc). This all by setting the alt key in a wacom pen side button. One very big problem is that very often, a fast click wont pick the color. Probably because it is expecting a drag, not a click like in other software apps. A suggested possible solution : Could it be possible / easy (I have no idea) to add a "not to be default" option so that users can disable the magnifier / dragging ? The eyedropper tool works a bit more like this, although if dragging or keeping it pressed, the magnifier ends up showing up, but you need to drag more/less dry click for it to happen. Well, in any case, not to replicate with the interactive picker the blue marquee around the object that the eyedropper tool forces, that would be bad while painting. Having an "alt + pen click" (no drag, no magnifier) color selection on canvas like in any other 2D application. With not even the magnifier on it. As I believe the estimation/input about if is there dragging or not, or actually displaying the lens, is adding some delay there, and causing some times not to even pick the color. Or never pick it, if fast enough. There even might be photographers wishing to have at least the option to deactivate the lens, so to have a blazing fast color picker, so, I guess is a good thing to add for any group of people, always as an option that does not need to be default after install. This would be huge for me (and I suppose, for any other person painting, making comics, illustration, texturing, etc, etc) , for my workflow. (a reason to purchase, indeed) Too lengthy version here, but I realized I hadn't done a formal feature request, and I was talking about two requests in same post (about digital painting requests in general), mixed with another matters, and it was too long, in any case.
  14. Hi guys, new to the forum and not sure if this is the right place to post or if there's another post like this. I've looked but couldn't find it. At the moment there's a shortcut to select a color off a layer but it feels very odd from a user's perspective. I see the color change in the color slider/wheel when I select a color but it doesn't automatically apply. I'm not sure if I am missing something here, but when you use the eyedropper tool in Illustrator, you select the layer you want to change the color, use the eyedropper tool and select something else and it automatically changes it to that color. Is that something that can be done for Affinity Designer too? I just see the color changing but it doesn't apply to my selected layer. Thanks!
  15. The magnifier of the eyedropper tool has a grey gradient in the lower half, which I find really distracting when trying to sample colours. It passes right through the reticle! Any chance you'd consider removing it? Thanks.
  16. Using the Colour Picker tool in the current beta (1.6.0.86) I do not have to click for the colour to be selected In the GIF I never click the mouse. While the mouse is moving the colour is not selected. If I stop, after about 1 second the colour is chosen, as if I had clicked the mouse. This doesn't happen in 1.5 I have tried unplugging my tablet, starting a new file, closing and relaunching AD.
  17. Not sure if this counts as a bug or a feature request, but currently the Colour Picker Tool does not recognise transparency. (This makes it pretty hard to do icon design for non-retina screens in Affinity.)
  18. I've noticed that the Color Picker Tool does not seem to impact other tools as i would expect, for example the Color Replacement Brush. Am i doing something wrong?
  19. EDIT: sorry i posted in the wrong category.. this is for IPAD As the title suggests. This is a very basic feature. Right now to use an eye dropped color, you still need to click on the new color in the Color Studio Panel each time which is very cumbersome especially if you are trying to blend in or copy multiple colors. This should function like all other similar apps where the brush will instantly get the color you eye drop. Hope this is addressed soon since this app is really great!
  20. I'd like to see the eyedropper tool available inside any color adjustment panel to help choose colors already in the image to sample from.
  21. Hello: How do I activate the eyedropper in Layer Effects/Gradient Overlay/Color Picker? Thanks.
  22. After setting the color picker source to "Current Layer", it still picks using the "Global" setting when using the option-click shortcut for picking a color. Can there be a way to set the source and have it stay that way when using the option-click shortcut?
  23. When I used the eyedropper tool in illustrator, it copied the attributes of the object that I clicked on with the dropper. For example, when I'm making a square of some color, and I want it to have an opacity of x% and a blending mode of Multiply, all I have to do in illustrator is make a square, then eyedrop another shape with those attributes and possibly change the color (all of my stuff involves layers on layers of differently sized shapes with the same blending mode.) In Affinity, is there a way to do this? The eyedropper copies the exact color on the canvas, and when I want to do my layering thing, I have to save the base color on the swatch, then change the blending mode and opacity manually from 100% normal --> 25% Screen or whatever every single time I make a new shape. The styles menu works kinda well, but it's not really the same speed/convenience for me. Thanks for the help!
  24. In Photoshop, you can set a simple preference for the eyedropper, to pick the color from the currently selected layer, or the resulting color from the displayed (flattened) set of all layers, or some other options: I regularly paint on a layer underneath other layers, and in PS I can select colors from the layer I'm painting on while I work. In Affinity, when I use the color picker while I'm painting, it picks the resulting color from all layers, which means that new color is dramatically wrong when I apply it to the "underpainting" layer. Is this an existing feature I haven't been able to find? Or is this simply not an option in Affinity?
  25. Hello, I've just started using Affinity Designer for Windows but I've run into a few issues that are quite puzzling (Note I'm coming from Photoshop / Illustrator). I've discovered that the eyedropper icon that appears in the fill area needs to be clicked and dragged to pick a color but is there not an easier way? I've made a gradient and I'd like to sample a color from another object but right now I need to select the handle for the color I want to change, use the eye dropper to select the color and then click the color to apply it. Is there not simpler way to do this? (i.e. not having to click+drag AND confirm my selection).
