  1. Ok.. so I haven't found anything in the forums that address this, so I'm pretty certain it's something wrong that I'm doing. When in export persona, I have no problem exporting anything to PNG, but when I change the export options for anything else (TIFF, JPG, it doesn't matter) they end up saving into the folder as PNG. Every time. What am I doing wrong? Paul 2014 15" MacBook Pro 512GB SSD 16GB RAM
  2. Hi, I came across a strange mistake. I'll start from the beginning. I'm working on a brochure, with bend in the middle , so I started doing it in final form (that how it's should look like). I thought that i can join it through the export persona and converted to pdf and with bleeds and crop marks like here ( ). However, when i combine the two artboards, the bleed disappear after export. So I decided to dived the pages manually by the squares and then reoorder the pages for the finall print. But when i copy the pages each half has a different color. When I give duplicate, so it will not. I do not know if it's a bug in the program or just an incorrect settings or using affinity. Thanks for the reply. I hope this is not too confusing post :) PS: look at the attached file. It's quire obvious that each half has different color.
  3. Hi there, I'm trying to export my files in various formats, PNG, PDF and EPS files So far I can only get PNG files. When I select PDF or EPS and export, the file is in PNG again. See attached screenshot showing PDF format selected. What am I doing wrong? Thanks
  4. Hello, I want to use some layers of my work in another work. Is there any way to do that? Thanks in advance
  5. There are two things over the good a new features that I believe that are serious problems to use both programs as a serious tools. Some features can be important for different people, I also miss some, but there are things that can make the full program useless. AffinityPhoto: One very simple thing it's a big issue for me. Sliders should have longer and smother transitions, if you pretend to be a Photoshop alternative the main thing is not in features, it's in quality. AffinityDesigner: I have a personal serious problem as many of my interface work is made in Fireworks and would like to be able to import all in to designer, but does doesn't make your program better or worst, it's my problem solved or not. There are things that can spoil all, not being able to create bleed lines and a proper export tool to PDF is really a serious issue, desktop still a big problem to make the full change from Illustrator, those are the difference, IMO, between good and useful or just a nice app. Looking forward to your improvements of a great work, thank you for what you are doing as we do really need to have alternatives out of Adobe world.
  6. Would be great to have an "export to .EMF" one day. To insert vector graphics into MS Office applications.
  7. Any file made in designer or photo has an issue when I export to tiff. There is a few mentions of it out there but no mention of a fix. A file that should be in the 100"s of mb comes out at under 10 mb and sets up a spinning wheel in the finder and my printer can not open the file.
  8. Hi, When I'm exporting a file as svg in the export persona, the file somehow contains a background layer even though no such thing was defined. I tried different svg options but seem unable to get rid of that layer without manually removing it in another application. Attached is an example AD file and SVG file. Or am I just missing something in the settings. Sample.svg Sample.afdesign
  9. Hello everyone, i just can't manage to export my graphic to a file that works as a vector graphic in the adobe applications. Can anyone tell me how to do that? Regards Andreas
  10. Hi guys, I am a mechanical engineer specialist in gear design, and until recently never used any graphic design or image processing software. But since I started my own company and changed my career, I did a lot of research and decided to go with Affinity. It obviously is a very steep learning curve for me, but for the most part I am making progress, even though I have a long way to go. I decided to sign up for this forum, since sometimes I just can't find what I am looking for. So here is my first post, apologies for using the wrong terms, description etc. Problem: I need to send a company who makes our shipping boxes our logo. I have the logo as a vector graphic and in color. I like to convert it to grey scale/bw. So I added an black & white adjustment. I noticed that this resulted in the logo being rasterized during export. I read in one of the forums on here that adjustments should not have this impact as long as I choose "Postscript Level 3" during export, which I did. But for some reason this does not work for me. Hopefully someone can help me and point me in the right direction. Thanks for the support and help! Oliver HappyGrun_Color.afdesign HappyGrun_Final_ShortForm.eps HappyGrun_BW.eps
  11. My problem is this: I have a number of layers, only some of which are selected (they ARE ticked in the DRAW persona view) These layers are INSIDE a group - each of the individual '(Curve)' layers are ticked, as is the parent '(Layer') layer I have no slices set up I want to export only those selected layers into a PNG so I do this: [menu] File > Export [options] Select PNG 'tab' [options] Resample = Bilinear, Export = whole document When the export saves the file there is nothing visible in the file - the same happens if I select JPEG (I don't wish to use slices, as I need the entire image) The only way I can get it to work is if I move the '(Curve)' layers up to the same level (i.e. outside) the parent layer. I think I've isolated the problem to be this (which feels like a bug, though some might call it a 'feature'?): if you import an Illustrator (.ai) file that contains grouped layers, those Group parent 'layers' each import into Affinity as a '(Layer)' Affinity WILL let you export these before you start editing the new Affinity file. However, after you've spent time editing the Affinity file it will NOT export those selected 'sub' layers - I think because Affinity wants the Group parents to be called '(Group)' layers, as they are when you create groups natively in Affinity, whereas the Illustrator (.ai) import called these Group parent layers as '(Layer)' layers If I painstakingly RE-group the 'child' layers that sit under each '(Layer)' layer into Affinity groups, so they become '(Group)' layers it WILL then let me export selected layers once more I hope this makes sense to someone in Serif, cos this either needs looking at (a bug) or explaining (as a feature) !! If anyone can advise I'd be grateful
  12. Every time I export from Affinity Designer as an SVG file the resulting file gets scaled up by a factor of over 4x. e.g. My document is Legal sized (215.9mm x 355.6mm) but when I open the resulting SVG file I find that it has been scaled up to 899.6mm x 1481.7mm. Since the final destination for my design is an Epilog laser cutter you can see why this isn't acceptable. Any help is very much appreciated.
  13. I am trying to export some business cards. I have multiple fronts (different names), and one common back. I am able to export one of the fronts as it appears in the workflow, but all the rest of the fronts and backs comes out almost 50% opaque passthrough (or something similar). What am I doing wrong? I have tried checking that all effects are off, and that all layers are grouped with opacity on 100% and normal. I have also opened each file on its own instead of exporting as all of the fronts of the cards together. Any hints? I have attached the one file of the card that is good, and the other that is faded... Business Card - Betsy Front.pdf Business Card - Jared Front.pdf
  14. Hey! I just started using Affinity Designer (win beta) over Fireworks about a week ago. Thus far I absolutely love it and everything I've wanted to do has followed a similar logic to how things work in FW, which makes the transition quite easy. Today I ran in to the first situation where I can't seem to figure out how to do something as well (or better) than in Fireworks. That is to export a circular logo in transparent PNG-8 form optimized as well as I did all the time with Fireworks, without having jagged edges / antialiasing issues with the logo. I've attached all the files of my tests below. I did try many other more specific settings with Affinity too, trying to find a good solution but I can't seem to figure out how to get the same results as I do with FW. Original file: 27,6 KB Fireworks export PNG-8: 13,2 KB Affinity export PNG-24: 29,9 KB Affinity export PNG-8, with jagged edges: 12,9 KB For web purposes this is a big enough difference that I need to disturb my workflow and jump back to Fireworks to do these types of things. I'm hoping someone has more experience with this sort of thing in Affinity and can give me a solution that can reach the same filesize as FW without those jagged edges that I seem to get when exporting PNG-8 from Affinity Designer. Anyone? :)
  15. Hi, I'm new to Affinity Designer - I've downloaded the free trial and am having success with learning the program. My problem is when I try to export my file to .pdf or .tiff I lose the document settings. I customized my document to be 58" x 36" at 300 dpi. When I export it changes to 96 dpi and 13" x 8" size. It was suggested to me I download Adobe Illustrator to try to convert the file at the correct, original settings. I've tried Illustrator and gave up after a few days' trial as it was not nearly as intuitive for a beginner as AFD, however it is essential for my work to find an app that I can export correctly to my printer. Would you kindly walk me through the steps. thank you for the help!
  16. Hi, I created an illustration in Affinity and now when I am export it as a jpg the colours are coming out very dark than what I see in the workspace. Please see attached screenshot of workspace and the exported jpg. You will notice the colour are different in working file and the exported jpg. Why is it happening and how can I fix it? Also attached is the .afdesign file so you check. regards laborday.afdesign
  17. Hey Affinity Team, I have noticed a couple of glitches on the Export Settings dialog box. I can't seem to able to create and save a preset, regardless of the file type and settings. After changing the settings of a current preset and going to "manage presets > create", the preset is not saved. The application has even crashed a few times at this point (the error reports have been sent automatically, of course). If you choose a certain file type and open its "More..." dialog and then go to a different file type and open its "More..." dialog, there are visible seconds of "lag" while the program switches between the two file type settings. Sometimes, the dialog doesn't even switch to the new file type you chose and it reverts back to the previous one. The user can remedy this by changing the file type from the "file format" drop down menu, but, all in all, this is an abnormal behavior. That's all I have come up with for now. Like always, thanks for your time and efforts.
  18. First of all: Big shoutout to the developers, your work is great! I wonder if it's possible to export the same file multiple times, each time with another layer visible. In my case I have some text over an image. There are three images in the document, I now want to achieve that the document is exported three times, each time with a different image visible. Is that possible and if so, where is the function? :) Thanks in advance, Julian
  19. I've searched the forum unsuccessfully for an answer to this question: Can AD export a file that I can send to my printer, the same way I can with Illustrator? In Illustrator I have a preset which includes crop marks and printer's marks. I can't find these options in AD. It's really important for me to know whether the series of A3 posters with bleed that I need to begin creating asap should be done in Illustrator rather than AD. If I can't export the finished product with accurate colour and in a format that my printer can work with, I'll have to stick with Illustrator for this project. Here's a screenshot of an A3 poster created in Illustrator, exported as a pdf in the way I need it to be:
  20. Hi, Is this possible to export TIFF images with transparency in RGB and CMYK from Affinity Photo or Affinity Designer? I can't do that from Affinity Designer so I just got the rial version of Affinity Photo to test the TIFF transparency export but it seems TIFF transparency is not supported for Tiffs. (?) Either in RGB or CMYK no matter what matte color you pick the TIFF image is exported with a solid background color. I have also tried Placing a PSD transparent file into a transparent background document in both Designer and Photo exporting it to Tiff ... same solid background. In the forums I found a few posts related to A-Designer Tiff export issues. but nothing about Affinity PHOTO. Resulting files should go to press and the CTP people want TIFF images in CMYK. Thank you for any hint, jp
  21. Hello! We have recentley upgraded our Designers to Affinity. Our main issue we are now having is creating brushes. We have created brushes by using the below method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNZbmvjtdmU But we are having issues with distortion and the brushes becoming lower resolution. Please see attached photo. Thanks! Matt. IT Support Agent Provocateur
  22. Hello, I've download the version 1.5.0.12 of affininity designer on Widows 10. Then I made a design and I would export it but I don't found the "export" button. So if smb. can explain me how to export on this version I would be very happy. Thanks for reding this Felix
  23. I've been using Affinity Designer for pixel art and have been satisfied with the results. The only problem I have had so far is exporting my results to the size I want. When working on a per-pixel basic, is there a way to export to a different physical size (inches, not pixels) without resampling taking place? Example: The attached image was made working in the Pixel persona and exporting to PNG. Is there a way to export this image from Affinity at, for example, twice this size without the result being resampled? Thanks!
  24. Hello, when I am exporting as svg, my stroked paths are becoming fills. Please see attached screen shots. #1 shows the settings as I create the red stroked paths (I have placed them above the raster image for clarity), #2 shows the file after export as a svg-the stroked paths have become red filled with a black stroke around the paths stroke. The svg is also attached (ice cream). Why is this happening? In the past couple of days I was able to create svgs in which the stroked paths stayed stroked paths- file attached (books) -I can't figure out what has changed. I am a new user, any help is appreciated. Thank you. ice cream.svg 7-books wwhite.svg
  25. Hi, The SVG export writes the tags "Height" / "Width" always in percent. Is there an option to set the values in pixels? I found this post in the forum: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/8099-set-svg-tag-heightwidth-to-pixel-dimension-on-export/ Thanks Juergen
