  1. Although when on the printing dialogue you get proper artboard names for selection, on the export dialogue you get 'artboard 1', 'artboard 2', etc. this can be potentially confusing. Is it a bug?
  2. When I open an SVG file (this has been going on in all the Betas so far) and try to export it as a PNG bitmap, the save dialog claims it is going to create an *.png file but it keeps the .svg extension in the file name it offers, so if you just accept it without explicitly deleting the .svg extension and changing it to .png, it will save the PNG bitmap under the name of the original SVG. OK, that was a mouthful. So, here is an example: Open example.svg, export to PNG. After the export dialog, the save-file dialog pops up. It suggests to save the PNG as example.svg. Since any other Windows program would automatically offer example.png, you just press the enter key, and now you have lost your original SVG file and you cannot find your bitmap because example.svg in now a PNG bitmap with the wrong extension. Additionally, Affinity Designer now thinks that example.svg has changed (even though all I did was export it), and so when I want to quite the program, it wants me to save it.
  3. I'm making a simple twitter header. All text on a colored background. File size is 1500x500. No matter what I export at it's blurry and looks terrible. I HAVE to be doing something wrong. I have attached the file. headerblog.afdesign
  4. Hey! I just bought Affinity Designer this week. I have some experience in Adobe Illustrator, but am fairly new to vector art. I want to start selling vectors on Shutterstock and am working on a set of simple fruit and vegetable images to get familiar with vector creation and the process of exporting them in a format customers will be able to use. Shutterstock requires that vectors be uploaded as EPS files. I tried uploading this as one of my first images: 7-5-16_fruit_n_veggies_peapod.afdesign It got rejected because it contains bitmapping. Is this because I'm using an effect that gets rasterized that I'm not aware of, or is it because EPS rasterizes no matter what? Or is something else going on? I appreciate any help anyone can give me.
  5. How can I create and export files from a scan or some line art logo, to create files I can easily color in InDesign by choosing their bitmap content in the color list?
  6. Hello guys, I have the problem, that the export doesn't work. It seems that it tries to export, but if I look in the folder there are no files. I've tried .jpeg, .png and .eps. .afdesign-Files are working just fine. Greets, Dench
  7. If I open a design from C:\My Pictures\Affinity and export to C:\My Pictures, the next time I try to open a file the path has defaulted to C:\My Pictures\ I would expect the Open and Export paths to be remembered separately. Ideally, the path would be remembered for each export format, e.g. C:\My Pictures\SVG, C:\My Pictures\EPS, C:\My Pictures\PNG etc., while the File Open path would remain whatever was last used to open a file.
  8. If too large a pixel dimension is entered in the Export dialogue, a warning is shown, but the proces is not autuomatically interrupted. Trying to calculate an enormous image size completely freezes the application. This proces needs to be interruptible to enter a more realistic value before calculating the image size. I tested with a 626 pixel wide image. Entering one zero for 6260 pixels was OK, but typing a second zero showed the warning, when everything froze. A hard boot was needed.
  9. Hi guys/gals, I've been playing with the beta, and so far it looks really nice. :) As I'm also doing a lot of 3D, I often use vector based work as a basis for 3D. Most of this comes into the 3D apps as eps or AI8 exported files. But the eps files out of AD have nothing in them when imported in a 3D app. Strange thing is I do get the file properly imported into Illustrator though, but cannot edit it anymore. So it looks like the eps file does something different than usual. It would be nice to see this working, as re-tracing stuff by hand in a 3D app can be pretty tedious. Oh. and retouching in Illustrator is also needed. rob
  10. Hi Beginner question (searching the forum didn't help): In AP, Filters - Colours - Erase White Paper is super easy - but after exporting as jpeg the background is white again, not transparent. Which step am I missing?
  11. Trying to export to PDF to get business cards printed. I imported a PSD template from moo.com with the right color spaces / etc. Tried importing my logo in EPS and SVG, which looks fine on screen. But when exporting to PDF it rasterizes. Afraid it's going to print terribly and considering just exporting a massive PNG instead. Disclaimer: I basically never do print work and have used Photoshop for under 3 hours in my life. Affinity Photo is a totally different app for me (Fireworks to Sketch user).
  12. We have a user that is using Affinity 2.01.0132 and they deleted their Internet Explorer cache; which deleted their configuration. (This configuration allowed Affinity to choose a default folder location within the Laserfiche ECM application) Now under "GENERAL OPTIONS" their Configuration Location is set to "Local- For my profile only"; and the "Global" option is grayed out. I am wanting to switch the user to the "Global" configuration option so that I can use another known good users Affinity Profile. Also, how do I copy another users Affinity profile into this users configuration. Do I export and then import an XML file? If I can import another users Affinity configuration profile I think this will allow the user have the same settings as they did before they deleted their IE cache, along with their Affinity profile. Thanks,
  13. After exporting cropped photo from AP, it get's thin white lines after uploading to website albums and is visible in dark environment. Noticed, that if photo remains uncropped, no annoying white lines appearing. With other photographer's work this is not occurring. Am I doing something wrong in exporting?
  14. I am a complete novice and use Affinity Designer and Photo for odd bits of work here and there. I am currently putting together a programme for a music festival. I started by creating a new Designer document with artboard set to A5 (plus a bit extra for bleed), i've then created new artboards (same size) for each page. I now want to put the adjoining pages together to show them to my Festival colleagues before we get them printed, so I thought the quickest way to do this would be to export each artboard as a PDF and then create a new file as A4 landscape and place two of the adjoining exported pages in to show a double page layout. However one of my exported artboard files is bigger - as in when I place it into the new double page document it is larger than the page, unlike the other ones which were the exact size and slotted in nicely. I thought perhaps the programme was having a glitch so I closed affinity reopened, discarded the export that was wrong and re-exported it again, but it did the same thing. Any ideas? Obviously i am happy to just resize the export once I place it in the double page file but I was curious as to why this would have happened. Any help greatly received! I've been learning a lot from this forum over the past few days, it's fantastically helpful to a less than knowledgable user like me! Thanks, Amy
  15. Hi guys, I am currently attempting to export a rather large, complexly layered SVG file and am having trouble tracking down the content which gets rastered during export. I have actually noticed that sometimes certain grouped elements can create this effect, and by ungrouping then regrouping them can solve the problem, which i guess this may be a bug? My destination for the content must contain zero raster elements. My question is is it possible to identify specific elements which need to be rastered in order to export to SVG successfully so that i can remedy these instead of toggling visibility on everything by process of elimination until i find it? Edit: I have isolated the suggested bug as mentioned above, and have attached a file demonstrating this. Export to SVG indicated elements will be rastered, but if ungrouped then regrouped no rastering occurs and can be exported as normal. group.afdesign
  16. I don't understand how the 1x, 2x, 3x works in AP. If I have an image that is 100 x 100 pixels and select 1x and 2x in the export, AP exports an image that is 100 x 100 and 200 x 200. By doing this it is always resampling the retina image up and ensuring that the retina image is not the highest quality. It would make much more sense to be able to specify the 1x resolution on export so that you could start with the retina size image of 200 x 200 and export the 1x sampled down to 100 x 100. The export features very much seem to be a beta concept.
  17. Hi considering there is still a lot of people working with Adobe Illustrator maybe it could be useful to get an Ai import, so we could collaborate with other designers. Also it could be cool to get a .tga format export, it is a format pretty popular in video games for example. Thank You and keep up the good work! Like I said in my other resquests, if Affinity Designer can be as good as you say for UX/Ui design, concept art and UV unwrap for 3D models textures and colors than i'm all in.
  18. Hi, Im having problems exporting a multiple page PDF. It looks fine on screen and then when I export it, its changes some of the typography but only on one page. Is also pixelates this images on one page. The rest are the same. It is a large document. But I exported it the same way last week and it was fine. So Im not really sure whats going on. Ive tried changing the style of the copy and copying the style from other bits of text that are the same on the document. Ive tried different export methods for PDF and its still the same. Also not all the text on that page is being effected only some of it. Ive also tried ungrouping the layers that contain the text and seeing if there was any accident effects put on those effected layers but found nothing. I can't show the whole document or page because its for work but I've screenshot a small piece of text from both on the programme and the PDF (the PDF is the lighter text) If anyone could give me any help I would be grateful.
  19. Hi there, I'm new to the forum and the Affinity software. I have a problem while exporting as PDF for a printing lab a PSD file. The pixel dimension is shown correctly in the export persona (7135 × 2441) but when I export it as PDF I get a 1706 × 583 file Here's what I'm doing: - CMD+SHIFT+E to have a single layer to export - in export persona i select the layer, make a slice and export the slice with PDF for print preset If I choose a Jpeg or png preset the dimension is correct. If I export the same file as PDF with photoshop I have the same dimension. What am I doing wrong? Also, it takes a solid 5 minutes. While Photoshop does it (with comparable parameters) in less than a minute. If needed I'll upload the file via dropbox or similar, it is 200mb Thanks for your help, Andrea
  20. I've been trying to use Affinity Designer on my latest web project and I've hit a snag that isn't a problem with Sketch or Photoshop. I've got a document with art that uses a specific gold color (#f1b82d). It's my university's brand color. I need my art to have that exact color build in order to match all the other design elements of my site. When I export the art as a PNG, the resulting file has a different color build and doesn't match. I think it has to do with color profiles being set, but when I uncheck that option in the export palette I get a different color shift. How can I export art as a PNG that has the exact color build as in the edit mode? I've attached some examples and my Affinity Designer document. I hope this is a simple thing I'm missing. Thanks! social icons.afdesign
  21. 1) I made a fairly complex graphic with probably 200+ layers and I aim to animate this graphic, probably in After Effects. I named all my elements and organised them in folders and subfolders so it would be easy to identify what is what when it comes to creating the animation. I'm pretty new to After Effects, so learning how to pull files from Illustrator and move forward. The problem I have is: If I export (to .eps, .pdf or .svg) all the folders vanish. In Illustrator there is simply one folder with all the various layers in it (I'm on Illustrator CC 2015 v.19). If find Illustrator's interface a nightmare. Do I really have to go through 200+layers and put them in folders all over again? 2) Do you have any recommendations for programs other than After Effects (which is great, but very complex for my needs) that would work well in animating something produced in AD?
  22. I'm considering joining a 'Camera Club' where they run competitions for both Print and Projected Digital images (PDI's) The rules state that the image size for both Print & PDI competitions must fit within a maximum pixel count of 1400pixels wide by 1050 pixels high and also if entering an image, which is of a 'Portrait Format' then the images must also comply, meaning that portraits can only be a maximum of 1050 pixels high. This being the case can you tell me what is the best way to crop and comply to the rules and also what is the best way to then export the images as a jpeg (complete with the above pixel count) - Thank you Hope you can help
  23. Good day, I am trying to export my logo to jpg, for the use of signature at Mac Mail. But every time I export it, it becomes blur. Please see the image attached. Shouldn't this just be the simplest task?! What do I do wrong? B This question might have been asked countless times. I'm sorry for that, I just can't find the right answer. 24. Hé guys and girls, I've been using Affinity Designer for icon design the last few weeks, such a nice tool. When I export these files to .png and use them in Sketch it's all working good. When I export them in 300 dpi (64x64) and use them in Indesign the icons are very blurry and setting the display quality to high doesn't do anything. Is there something I am doing wrong? Or do I have a preset setting wrong? There is a screenshot with it, the icon in indesign at 300 dpi at 100%.
  25. Hi there, I don't know wether this is a bug, or it is me not understanding how to do it right. I have this design, it's the top of the double letters "L" I created, that troubles me. When I export the design to .eps or .pdf it looks like this: When it should look like the following, with sharp corners. In AD in looks correct until a certain zooming facor. Still good: On step further, not so good: (I figured out, beginning with zooming factor 2836% it snapps) What's wrong with me? Why me? What does the universe try to tell me? :-D Seriously, I don't have a clue. Can someone give me a hug? Marco P.S. Thanks, for this amazing program! In school we had lessons how to use AI. I hated it. I hated the lessons, I hated AI, in fact, I still don't like it. I didn't understand AI. And I never will. I almost give up on vector graphics. I love AD. I really do. (Would love to see gradient borders :-) )
