  1. Something strange I noticed when I exported a simple two page layout recently. Publisher didn't export the file as it looks in the program currently but rather as an old version from several days ago. I have never seen anything like this as I exported files in the past. Has that happened to anyone else? I don't use Publisher a lot but I thought I would try it out with a simple layout.
  2. Hello everyone, I am using Publisher for Mac on the latest Beta. I created a project with 5 pages, using only the master page tool and inserting some images and writing text in a custom font. When I wanted to export it as PDF, Publisher first said there were overflowing text frames, although I couldn't spot any, and then started exporting but eventually stopped giving only a vague message. Can someone tell me why it does so and how to fix it? Thank you in advance!
  3. hello people, i'm using affinity designer - latest version - and windows 10 with 32 GB ram and a gforce gfx 970 card and it's VERY VERY slow when i'm typing some text or move things around the workspace. is there anything wrong with the gforce or did i miss some settings? in performance settings i switched to gforce 970 and FAST preview setting but it's slow as hell. --------- next thing i didn't find anything in the forum is: i have a few afdesign files and i want to link them in one master file. i created a artboard file and PLACED them. when i want to export this master file is empty. it seems that affinity designer can't export placed (linked) afdesign files to pdf? as soon as i raster those placed files it's working - but i want to keep the ability to edit those placed files. there is no option to write scripts or set "raster everything before export to pdf" button :( is there any solution to it? thanks a lot for helping me out. mike
  4. I've been using Affinity Designer and really enjoyed it. The problem is that I am unable to create usable files. The kind of work that I do requires a layer of grouped die lines to be placed over a layer of art. The manufacturers I work with need to be able to rearrange the dies and corresponding artwork. The manufacturers all use Illustrator. When I export files as .PDF or .EPS, they open in Illustrator with every piece grouped together, in a single layer, within a clipping path. I can't submit files like that. SVG's preserve the layer structure, within another layer, but the dimensions are way off. To be fair, I am aware that these problems are not unique to AD. I've tried separating out the layers in Inkscape with the same result. Another colleague creates his die lines in AutoCAD, but still uses Illustrator to set up files for output. Is there a legal reason for this lack of compatibility? If so, how come SVG's almost work? Is there some sort of workaround? Any plan to change this? I think anyone who works with die lines; packaging, for example, would have the same issue.
  5. I would like more tools for better and faster design: 1. A deformation tool / grid to bend objects and texts. 2. The shapebuilder just like in DrawPlus only much better to create shapes from overlays. In DrawPlus, the tool was very immature and could not create the shape clean. 3. When running the Divide tool I get a lot of small elements, which are located between the larger surfaces, as if I had additional contours. This must be fixed, otherwise I can no longer put the aufgeteilen element clean to a surface. 4. A tool that allows me to automatically transfer the properties of an object (such as color, outline, effects) to other selected objects. In addition, I would like to be able to choose which properties I would like to take over. When opening and exporting I miss the opportunity to open and save: Adobe Illustrator (with layers and editable effects) Corel Draw (with layers and editable effects) EPS files (with layers and editable effects) The billing of the effects when exporting does not work properly. Get roughly resolved results and sometimes surrounding objects, which have no effects or do not come into contact, still charged. Very bad. Must be improved.
  6. Hi, I think I have encountered a bug when outputting a PDF for print. Here's how my artwork is set up and (hopefully) how to replicate the bug: Create new document with a bleed value and multiple artboards Create objects that overlap bleed area File > Export and select PDF Select 'PDF (for print)' preset. Though this may occur on other presets Select an Area of one of the artboards Tick the 'Include bleed' checkbox In the 'More' section select to 'include printers marks' Export the file The resulting PDF features the single artboard artwork and all the printer's marks but no bleed. This can be remedied by selecting the 'Area' in the PDF export dialogue to be the 'Whole document'. Then the 'include bleed' setting seems to be honored. Please let me know if you need any further details to reproduce this bug. I've attached the source artwork and the resulting PDF, sans-bleed. PS Also, on a point of English, should the label "include printers marks" be "include printer's marks"? multiple artboards.afdesign Art2.pdf
  7. On Affinity Photo I want to export an entire black image to a 3x3 square of slices. As this square is bigger than original image, 8 exported slices but the center's one have extra pixels. When I exported slices, these extra pixels are white. I want them to be black. I tried many tricks without success: change background color of image, add a square below the image and fill it with black... No success. Extra pixels are always white. Is there a way to achieve this goal? Original image Mosaic of slices Slices As you can see, extra background is white. Top left slice
  8. Hi, team! I try to make a PNG dithered with transparency background. Is not available to see in a window 2 or more previsualization of an image with different export options in real time? Thanks for your amazing apps
  9. Whenever I go to export a photo to any file type it lets me save but then an error message pops up. Once the error message pops up the system crashes and shuts down. How can I get this to work? I haven’t been able to successfully save one photo to any other file type but Affinity.
  10. I found an overprint bug in Affinity Designer 1.6.1 (from App store). 1. EPS logo dropped into sign 2. export or using slices with "Overprint Black" checked will actually set all colors to overprint, even when the colors are not set to overprint in the original file. There is rarely a case that anything should overprint other than black. 3. This only happens with EPS files. As you can see in the screenshot from Acrobat that the PDF to the right did not overprint but is correct. Unchecking the box "Overprint Black" in the More dialog box will enable it to not overprint all the other colors but that is just a workaround and could cause other problems.
  11. Hi, I'm on macOS 10.14.2 and I'm using Publisher version 1.7.0.227. When exporting a PDF for print, I get several issues: PDF pages all have different sizes (I set up the page size in Spread Setup) I get the impression that for every page only the area of my content is being exported instead of the whole page. background is transparent (I unchecked this option in Document Setup) color space and profile are wrong (I set CMYK in Document Setup) See attached file for export settings.
  12. I have a png with a transparent background that I’ve imported into Designer on my iPad Pro. Original dpi was 150. I need to upload it to an online vendor that only accepts 300 dpi files. (I know.) Changing the dpi in Designer only seems to work if I uncheck Embed Metadata in the Export screen — but when I do that and save as png, the resulting image has a white background. If I leave the setting checked, the background is transparent but the dpi remains listed as 150. Is it possible to change the dpi of the saved png to 300, but retain the transparency? edit: I’ve discovered that I can make this work if I first create a 300 dpi document and then use Place Image to add my image. I can then turn off embed metadata and retain transparency. Still not sure why I can’t start with an existing png, though.
  13. We have used Adobe Fireworks for years for making graphics for our website and social media pages. We have been evaluating software to replace Fireworks and Affinity Designer is a strong candidate because it seems intuitive to use and does the simple things we need to do. We have however run into some snags and the biggest one is exporting images. We commonly export our graphics to web compatible formats and as an example, we are used to seeing a size of 64K or less for a 500x500px image from Fireworks. Something we would use on the web or social media. The size I am seeing on from Affinity Designer is around 1 meg. Now, I admit I have not been through all the tutorials yet but this is a big deal for us. Our website is large and we try hard to keep images as small as possible. Please, someone, tell me I am not going about this the right way or there is a better way! Help appreciated.
  14. I need to export information about layers and objects (name, position, rotation, scale) to json or xml or another format which I can parse. How can I do this?
  15. Hi, I create UI for work and we often have reusable elements in our designs; when these are exported they have the same name but different X Y coordinates on the page. I'd like to start using Affinity for this but there is a slight issue. Currently when Affinity exports two Slices with the same name, it adds a number to the file name of the repeat slices. Is there a way to disable/override this? My goal is to have only one of the repeat slices exported but still have the coordinates for each in the Batch Builder export. Also it would be great to have some more advanced control on the Batch Builder presets in future hehe
  16. Seems that people have been asking for this for some time now. Is it possible in Photo now?
  17. Hello, it would be really awesome if AD could add a simple, generic Batch Builder that can export coordinates for Artboards and Slices and basic information for exported object layers to either JSON or XML: Any slice Coordinates Slices created from objects Stroke: Thickness, Color & Alignment Fill: Color Slices created from text frames (assuming a constant style for the entire frame) Family Weight Size Alignment Bonus points for any additional properties (everything in the contextual context toolbar and the effects panel may be of interest) That would dramatically increase the usefulness for UI design in collaboration with development teams! We're currently trying to use the Spine JSON-Export to automatically create design specs for our dev team, but the proprietary structure (origin in bottom left, anchor at center of any object, no text support) makes it kind of finicky. It's awesome that it's there, but a few more attributes would make it much more useful for us. If it's too time intensive to make a pretty JSON/XML-file, I'd also settle for Batch Builder that prints a parsable ToString()-Dump of the document tree .
  18. Version 1.6.5.123 Exporting from an afphoto (correct date and time) to jpg gives the file a wrong data and time of 01/01/2003. Only on jpg. The other formats seem to export correctly.
  19. Hi everyone, I´ve finished up a drawing and while trying to export it, the app suddenly shuts down. I´ve tried to save it, but the same thing happens and I have to open the app again. Basically I can´t access the piece. I thing the archive might be too heavy. What can I do? Thank you!
  20. Hi, I could not find if this was covered yet here on the forums. I just exported a color palette in Designer (to iCloud drive) with many global colors that had custom names assigned (RAL palette). When I imported the palette as document palette back into another project the custom names on the global colors were all gone and reverted back to their default names. The standard colors and gradients all kept their names, just the global color names were gone. Please advise. Cheers, Marc
  21. When I add a table of contents to any document, I can't export or print. Clicking on either Export... or Print... immediately freezes Publisher and I can do nothing at all. I have to kill this instance of Publisher using Task Manager and then re-launch it to do anything further. I can consistently recreate this any time I have a master page containing text frames. If there is no TOC, I can export and print as expected. As soon as I add a TOC those functions cease to operate. Steps to recreate: Create a new file using the default settings. Add a text frame to the master spread. On any page, insert a TOC by double-clicking in the text frame and selecting Text > Table of Contents > Insert Table of Contents Click File > Export... or File > Print... Publisher freezes completely This is not happening if I leave the master alone and just create a text frame on a page and put the TOC in that. I am on Windows 10 using beta 1.7.0.227. I haven't used any previous beta versions so I don't know if this used to work or not.
  22. I am new to affinity designer, I am currently using Procreate and an iPadpro 12.9 2017 edition. I am a freelance illustrator, and sometimes I need to produce really large images. I do not use vectors. I paint my images with raster brushes. I have not been able to make documents large enough in Procreate, so I tried exporting a large document (52x100 300dpi) in affinity designer, and though the program will let me assign the size I need to the document, it can not export it. The iPad Pro just spins and spins. I tried several times, and after 20 mins I gave up. Does the new iPad Pro that just came out, with affinity designer, have better capabilities to export really large files? If so what is the largest file it can handle?
  23. Hi and apologies for not using Affinity for a while now. Busy looking for work. Trying to again get off the Olde Adobe Reliance. An old workflow for JPEG web output I've always used, is a targeted KB size output, found (in CS6) under SAVE FOR WEB > OPTIMIZE [sic] TO FILE SIZE … Does AP have a similar feature? I can't find something you can dial in. Best
  24. The PNG, JPG, GIF, TIFF, EXR and HDR pages of the Export dialog have some "Size" controls at the top which change value if the - lower down the dialog - selected "Area" changes. It would be better if the "Size" controls came below the "Area" control so that the user can more easily notice the change. It is generally better if controls only change the value of other controls further down a dialog - and not above - because, otherwise, the user might not see it happening, or may even assume that it's unimportant. The user should be able to make their way down a dialog - especially a dialog which produces an external effect/product - from top to bottom once without having to go back to the top and check everything again, just in case. (One exception to this 'rule' is when the user's actions change the settings from those set by a preset, in which case it's okay to remove the preset value.)
  25. I've seen several people posting time-lapsed videos of their drawings in Affinity Designer for iPad, from start to finish. They aren't image sequences, they are sped up screen recordings. I'm not quite sure if this is something that Affinity enables internally? Or, if they are using some third party gear to capture their actions on the iPad's screen? At the very least, exporting the image history to an image sequence would allow for a time-lapsed "build" over time to be exported and shared. How are people creating time-lapsed videos of their drawing in Affinity Designer on iPad?
