  1. Affinity Photo recompresses JPEG images when metadata is edited even though the image itself has no changes. Steps: 1. Make a copy of a test JPEG image as backup. 2. Edit metadata in one copy of the image in Affinity Photo. 3. Stack before and after images in layers and view as Difference.
  2. 1. It is not possible to set a date taken for old photographs. Try tagging a photo taken in, say, 1926. It will not be saved and will come back blank when the file is reopened. 2. IPTC fields are short, for example, some longer country names must be entered abbreviated rather than in their correct form.
  3. I exported JPGs from a Publisher document. The JPGs in iCloud Drive and on macOS show the correct time zone. When I import the files into Photos, the Photos app shows UTC time stamp vs US/Eastern even though iPadOS preferences say I'm in US/Eastern time zone. I am posting this here because other apps that export JPGs don't cause this. This was unique to Affinity Publisher 2. I was running it on macOS Monterey 12.6.2 on 2017 iMac 21.5-inch 4K. Has anyone else seen this? WalterRowe.afpub
  4. Most of the other photo editing software I have identifies its use in the EXIF Software field when a change is made to a JPG image, however that doesn't appear to be the case for Affinity photo. Is there a reason for this?
  5. I use usb cable to import my R+J from my Sony A7C to my ipad(15.3.1) photo library, then use import function in affinity (1.10.3.267). The EXIF exist in photo library but after import to affinity they are gone. In following conditions the EXIF can be found in affinity. The EXIF will be preserved if I shoot in raw only and follow the same import procedure. The EXIF will be preserved if I import the individual raw from Files even I shot in R+J. Did I do something wrong? Or is it just apple doing apple thing, because I noticed the EXIF in photo library tagged as JPEG. Btw I tried to attach the R+J photo in here from my iPad photo library but judge by the size, it will only upload the JPEG part of it. Thank you.
  6. It seems that Affinity always shows "Horizontal(normal)" as the orientation regardless of actual orientation info. This image has Rotate 90 CW ( right-top / 6 ) and Affinity still shows Horizontal(normal) as usual. You can get sample images for all orientation here. https://github.com/recurser/exif-orientation-examples
  7. I want to suggest making it possible to keep the original files exif/metadata in ALL slices set. As far as I understood only the very first slice which is automatically set (not really a slice, but just the whole thing called by the projects name) keeps that data since it works with the same engine as the default export function (the one you can use over Data>Export from everywhere, which you can set to delete all exif data if you want). All other manually set slices will always loose their exif data and there is no option to change that! I imagine it to be not that hard to implement it that way that you have the ability to write exif in slices as well (since its only very little data to copy after the file creation), probably even by default. You can always set the options to ditch the exif if you want, just like with the normal export function. Yes, you can currently workaround by cropping multiple times in the normal Photo Persona and its nondestructive as well. But that defies the whole sense behind the existence of the export persona! If I change even the slightest thing in the image I have to redo every crop and pray to the crop gods that it is somewhat cropped the same as before.
  8. I work only with scanned TIF files, and lately I have noticed that my EXIF data is gone after saving. This is not good, I really need my Exif data !!! It seems that I can't see this information within Affinity ? My workflow is as followed: Scan the image Edit in Affinity Save run exiftool to add the needed fields Now when opening the file again and saving all my exif data is gone. After running exif tool (not all fields) patrick_marquetecken@Patricks-Mini ~ % exiftool -xmp:all /Volumes/G-DRIVE\ 4TB/FOTO\'S/2020/Stillevens/1545.tif XMP Toolkit : Image::ExifTool 11.26 Lens : Zenzanon-S 80mm f/2.8 Creator : Patrick Marquetecken Title : 1545 Color Mode : Grayscale ICC Profile Name : Generic Gray Gamma 2.2 Profile Copyright Status : Protected Licensor URL : https://www.marquetecken.be/licentie Copyright : All rights reserved - patrick@marquetecken.be Creator Tool : SilverFast 8.8.0 r24 (Oct 29 2020) 30c8121 29.10. 9. I get that I have to save my edited photos back to camera roll by export-share-save image, but somewhere along the line I’ve lost exif data, most importantly date and time taken. This means when I save to my cloud storage it’s out of date order with my other images. Surely there’s a solution for this but I can’t find one despite the searching. If I could save directly from affinity to amazon photos it might not happen but there’s no way to do that either afaik.
  10. hello, I need to know if you planned to add an option to preserve EXIF data and fill some fields on the "new batch job" function... Need feedback ASAP
  11. I was excited to learn about the metadata editing feature. I have a standalone product that does it, but it is really cumbersome. However, there are some things that Affinity Photo 1.8.0.585 (currently the most recent version for me) isn't doing, and I am wondering if I am missing something, or if it is just not there yet. I am using a Windows PC. I have entered data in all of the fields on the File page, I left EXIF alone, IPTC (Image) I entered my name for Credit, IPTC (Contact) I entered Country and Website. For the Rights, I don't intend to put this image in the Public Domain, nor allow Creative Commons use. So I did not check Public Domain and set CC to none. I did fill out Attribution URL and Attribution Name. In the Statement box I tried to put my entire copyright notice, but there is a field limit size so it doesn't all fit. When I look at Detail, it seems to imply that I have given this image Creative Commons rights, not left it at none. All of the other data seems to be what I entered, only the problem with the short Statement field in the Rights section. I exported my image, which was not nearly instant as usual, I had a progress bar and it took 30 - 45 sec or so. (I have only one layer) Right click / Details of the image shows me none of the information that I entered in Affinity Photo. It looks exactly like the Details from the image before I added the metadata. I did check that when I re opened the image with metadata in Affinity Photo, the new data was there. In comparison, my other metadata editor (Using a different image) shows about 3 pages of information, including Title, Subject, Rating, Tags, Author, and Copyright. Is there something that I missed to get all of this information to show when someone checks the details of the image? Do I just have to leave the rights page blank so that my image is not assumed to be creative commons? Can the Statement field be longer? Thank you!
  12. The EXIF information is available during the Develop Persona, but not available in the Photo Persona. Can we have an easy way to access the EXIF data whilst editing? Please? AS it is, one must switch modes (Personas) back to Develop to see EXIF data. Whilst editing, some decision are made using EXIF data (e.g.- "How much noise suppression do I normally use for this ISO?", "Did I shoot that at 12mm or 14mm?") Thanks. Walt Palmer
  13. After processing a number of 16 bit images in Affinity Photo, I exported them as 8 bit tifs. I have the Embed ICC profile and Embed metadata boxes ticked. When I viewed the 8 bit images in BreezeBrowser Pro they were very slow to display. I've contacted BreezeBrowser support and they have suggested that the issue is probably that Affinity Photo does not produce an EXIF thumbnail and this is why the display is so slow. Is this the case or is there an option somewhere that I need to switch on?
  14. For some RAWs, the EXIF data is complete and accurate; in some it is incomplete, and in others it is inaccurate. I used RAW images from two bodies and a variety of lenses: the RAW images had the same (long stable) firmware for all the photos being discussed, but the firmware (and models of the two bodies) were different from each other. In the menu bar with "Develop /Cancel" above the file name, the EXIF information may be correct, incorrect lens data, or camera only. For one camera (SD14), it showed only the resolution and size in output megapixels, camera model, and an incorrect lens. For another RAW photo, the information was complete and accurate. For another camera (SD1M), it shows same camera and image info info except zero lens info, and another RAW had complete and accurate (improved details and accurate, even). The Focus sidebar information looks correct, and for the first camera again (SD14) EXIF info appears correct except XML "auxLens" is wrong. Another RAW file was missing about 50-70% of all its XML data. This only occurs on some photos, but on other photos, the information was correct. And in fact, on some photos, it is now more accurate: it is now not only showing the correct tele zoom, but it also indicated "+2x" to show that a 2x tele converter had been installed on the lens. It did not indicate the specific teleconverter used - just the magnification factor. For the missing or inaccurate lens EXIF data RAW files, I couldn't edit the lens correction data. In this version it also seems to take longer to restore the UI when tabbing from a minimized state to a full screen state: the image appears immediately, but outer background takes about 1-2 seconds, then menus filling over top of the background takes an additional 1-2 seconds. And I'm not certain, but I may have had inconsistent information displayed from the same image (accidentally) opened several images later. I had done a lot of tests on the betas two through four versions ago, but not much on this one or the next most recent one version before this current one. It is possible that the same behaviour existed and I didn't see it. However, in the betas prior to these two most recent, I did not see this behaviour, and I had done much more extensive testing (I have an existing beta issue currently being analyzed by the devs, where RAW images from one of the cameras, the SD1M (same as the other Merrill sensor cameras), requires heavy denoising, which throws away an abnormal amount of image detail: whereas the SD14 body processes perfectly noiseless and razor sharp output for well lit images, even when zero sharpening and zero denoising are applied). Thanks!
  15. Re-posting in the right forum... Can Serif provides a suitable API for reading EXIF data from a Affinity Photo document (.afphoto) ? Or has the Affinity Photo file format been documented somewhere so tools like NeoFinder can read these values of EXIF data ? Thanks PS. Neofinder Web site: https://www.cdfinder.de/en/info.html

  17. Hi. I use photoscape along with affinity photo. PhotoScape has a unique option on the rightclick menu to edit or copy the exif metadata. For those who don't know what metadata is, the EXIF is imbedded into a RAW or JPEG or TIFF to record details relevant to the picture. For example, ISO Fstop focal length of lens exposure time are all recorded as well as photograph date drive mode etc. This is a really handy tool so I don't have to carry pencil and paper around with me when taking photos. I note this feature is also missing in Affinity photo. I can cut paste across applications but to have this feature in publisher would be very helpful.
  18. I am new to affinity photo, just purchased it. the version is 1.6.5.135 using on laptop which runs Windows10. I need help to adjust the way EXIF value are shown in EXIF panel. The FNumber is shown as 14/5 instead of 2.8, Exposure Time is shown as 10/1 instead of 10 secs, Metering mode is shown as 5. How do I get it to show f2.8, 10 secs, Evaluative or Spot etc?
  19. Camera: Nikon D7100 Operating System: Windows 10 with latest updates MetaData (Camera and Lens info) missing after Export from AP Beta 1.7.0.284. Here are the steps I am following: 1. Rate photos using Nikon's Software ViewNX-2. All meta data readable and correct displayed from .NEF file in software. 2. Edit and create .tiff file using PhotoLab 2. All meta data readable and correctly displayed from .NEF file in software. 3. Edit in Affinity Photo in example used just the HSL filter. All meta data readable and correctly displayed from the .tiff file on the EXIF tab of AP. 4. Export from Affinity Photo and create .jpg file. Steps used to check work: 5. Open .jpg file in Nikon's Software ViewNX-2. No camera or lens meta data displayed. 6. Open .jpg file in PhotoLab 2. Camera data and settings displayed correct but no lens meta data displayed. 7. Open .jpg file in Affinity Photo. All meta data readable and correctly displayed from the .jpg file on the EXIF tab of AP. It appears the camera and lens data is not being deleted because Affinity Photo can see it fine. But, other software is unable to see the camera and lens information. I noticed this problem in the released version today too. What got me to checking was the place where I upload files for sale (clickasnap.com) was not longer displaying my lens information. I reported the problem to them thinking it was something on their end in reading the exif data correctly. However, when today I checked the forum and saw the persons note about the Nikon D7200 meta data I thought I would run these checks to see if the problem might be on my end. I believe something might have changed in the last full release. If you need the .NEF, .TIFF, .JPG, and Affinity Photo project file to confirm this I can upload them. Hope this information helps. Peace Marvin

  21. Hello, I am a new Affinity Photo user and I found out, that when I export file to JPEG, I loose EXIF info. When I open RAW file from my camera Nikon D700 in Development persona, EXIF tool doesn't read all the EXIF info (compare to Nikon ViewNXi, where I see a lot more EXIF information about image settings, camera info, flash info, Picture control settings etc.). When I develop image, work on it in Photo persona (using NIK collection plugin as well) and export it to JPEG (embed metadata checked), EXIF data is lost then. Is there any way to preserve all the original EXIF data embedded in RAW image when developing and exporting image in Affinity Photo? I attached file to see what EXIF is displayed in Development persona when I open RAW image. Is it same for you guys? Or do you have more detailed EXIF? Thanks for help. Peter
  22. Hi; I hope no-one minds if I ask advice while also sharing... I created this 4096x2160;16bit;P3 file as part of a series of test images for checking a cinema auditorium. Obviously, it is using cone gradients of the primary and secondary colors, then flipping them around to meet up in a pattern. One major problem that I have had is getting each 1000x1000 square to exactly butt up against each other without leaving a fine (fine, fine, fine) line between them. It shows on the ADesigner screen image and shows up in the TIFF image (12-bit TIFF is what is required for the transfer to a cinema projector file.) I have spent hours (iMac with 5k screen) futzing and finally came up with the technique of putting a strip of color behind the two blocks and applying a gradient to that (not perfect perfect, but pretty close.) I found that by laboriously going to each block and instead of leaving the "transform" numbers as they are, that if I go through each one and put in a bunch of zeros after the number that the blocks gets closer to being perfectly together. In other words, instead of X position of 48 I type in 48,00000000 or for W and H of 1000 I type in 1000,0000000000 ... and also very importantly for R, 90 must be 90,000000000 – I just put in an arbitrary number of zeros, but it seems to straiten out. Now, maybe I didn't have 'whole numbers' turned on early in the process, and that would have solved the issue. I tried that later and it doesn't seem to always help – and things seem to shift (dither between ± points) if I don't give it the precision of the added zeros. I'd just like to hear from others as to whether this has come up with you before (or if I am the only psychotic doing things where this matters?)? Also, what I am learning today and what I originally came to the forum for, is if there is a way to add exif data within Designer? Anyway, thanks! Good luck to us all... 23. Exif data is totally cut of by Export Persona It is only properly exported/adapted from RAW by File/Export function. Generally: The Exif handling should be implemented much better. In comparison to Lr/Photoshop it is de facto inexistent. Of course there is the "All" view. But in there, I mess up with the countless xml tags, which are quite inconvenient to use - if you don't know the correct meaning by heart - what I do not and I have no intention to learn them. Guys, I want to use the program and not mess around with xml tags I have no clue of Appreciate any help, reply, whatever... Cheers mates, Roland PS: I was not sure, shall I post this under bugs or enhancement requests. Somehow it is like Schrödinger's cat: both
  24. When manipulating RAW files and exporting them into JPEG, the EXIF data does not contain any clue, that the JPEG was created using Affinity Photo. Most other tools use the EXIF-Tag "Software" to identify, they were used (e.g. Photoshop, Windows Photo Editor, Lightroom etc.). Wouldn't this help to increase the degree of recognition of Affinity Photo?
