I recently sent a JPG file to a friend of mine and he opened the file in Photoshop. The JPG was exported from AP v2.0.4 (Mac Ventura). When he opened the file in Photoshop, it automatically opened the file in Adobe Camera RAW instead of opening it normally, as if the file I sent him was a RAW file instead of a JPG. I tried it myself on another computer I own that has Photoshop installed and got the same result. It launches Adobe Camera RAW, with a lot of crazy slider settings in the Basic Tab. The original file was a RAW DNG file from my Canon DSLR. I processed the original RAW DNG file in AP v2.0.4 (Develop Persona) and I chose to import it into the Photo Persona with the RAW file (linked or embedded, I forget which). I wanted to retain the ability to go back and forth between AP and the Develop Persona so I could make adjustments in the Develop Persona. That all worked fine, as designed. When I exported the file from AP to JPG, I suspect AP must have written something in the metadata so the JPG looks like a RAW file, which is what caused Photoshop to launch Camera Raw. To me, JPG is an industry standard file format and should not look or open as a RAW file in any program (even AP). The original AfPhoto file format is a different matter, since you want to retain that active link to the original raw file (if linked). Is this a bug? If intended, should it be changed? I suspect so. I don't want my JPG files sent to others opening as RAW files. I exported the file from AP to JPG twice, and will attach both files. One has sRGB embedded and the other is Adobe RGB.

When I double click to edit an embedded document, the display goes all wonky and will not correct itself until I exit and reopen the document. It doesn’t seem to be only this document. It also happens (same document) in Publisher. This has been a thing for quite a while. thanks for your help. iPad Pro 12.9” M2 iPadOS 16.3.1 Designer Ver 2.0.4.1701

The choice in developer is grayed. Input files are from a canon EOS R5 .CR3 file. I used to work in HDR, for getting better results in backlight with pictures of birds in a bush. Worked fine for me in photo 1. I recently stopped doing that, to give the RAW embedded function a chance. I am an amateur photographer. I made some changes to the settings of Affinity Photo 1 using information provided. Something seems to have created a problem!

I have a project (with transparent background) with multiple objects and several multi-object files that I have placed/embedded into that project. I can edit the embedded files in the project without a problem. I can successfully export this project as a PNG and everything is as I expect with a transparent background (in other programs and online t-shirt design areas). However, when I export the project as a EPS, I do see a notice that "Some areas will be rasterized" but I ignored that because all I worked with were vectors and nothing with pixels or rasterized. When the export is finished the transparent background is gone and replaced with a white background. On further investigation on the resultant EPS file in Designer, I found that instead of vectors for the embedded files there are "images". So when I hid those image layers the white background disappeared and the background was transparent. The same thing happened when I did not export the project the embedded layers, "nothing will be rasterized" and the background remained transparent. Apparently, Designer throws away embedded file vectors and converts it to a rasterized image which produces a white background for the entire project. Is there a way to export the content of embedded files in a project that eliminates the rasterization of the files and preserves a transparent background?

I have a document (Font Embed Example.afpub) using Noto Sans Korean [KR] Bold (Google Fonts) and Noto Sans (Google Fonts) but still only using Latin characters. Both fonts are listed as 'Installable' in Windows font settings: However, when exporting the document as a PDF from Publisher with the Subset fonts option checked, the exported PDF (Font Embed Example (subset).pdf) is missing all styles (i.e bold and regular) of only the KR font: The regular Noto Sans font however embeds perfectly well: Unchecking Embed subsets fixes the issue, at the expense of increasing file size from 1MB to almost 8MB (since the Korean font is quite large) (Font Embed Example (non-subset).pdf) which is too large for some file upload limits. I think this may be a bug in the PDF exporter. I haven't conducted any testing with other non-latin fonts but this may yield similar results. I'm running the latest Publisher version on Windows 11. The same issue also occurred on my laptop running Windows 10.

Hello friends, I placed a layered APh file into another file that's a comp. I edited the embedded APh file several times, so my original embedded doc as saved on disk is outdated. I now want to save out the embedded file as it's own file back to disk. When I go to edit the embedded document, Save As… is grayed out. What's the best way to save my file back to disk?

Hi, I'm trying to use the DataMerge functionallity with an embedded document. The main limitation I found is that the datamerge tool can't access the layer information of the embedded document, so the fields are not being populated. Is it posible to display the layers of an embedded document in order for the DataMerge tool to populate the fields? (the layers might be read only so the embedded functionallity is effective). See below a simple screenshot of what I'm trying to achieve. I want to use the DataMerge tool to layout the cards in a specific way while I have a single card design in a different document. Thanks, Alberto

1. we need to place a pdf as a link. it can be placed but all TEXT inside the pdf are missing because of the font missing. so the placed pdf are technically not linked. so we need an options like that (image pdf linking.png). 2. after placing a pdf some times we have to edit or need to some adjustments so that time we nee to outline the fonts so another option similar to Illustrator FLATTEN TRANSPARENCY required. with both of those we; printers can handle client files easily.

Hi everyone, I got a question regarding the embedding of files (images, designer-files, etc.). Do I miss something or is it intended that you can't edit the original file but instead editing like an instance of the original instead? I have the following scenario: Graphic artist A: He makes the layout and the design of an ad. (filename: ad.afdesign) Graphic artist B: He takes the ad designed by artist A and uses them in a brochure. (filename: brochure.afdesign) Artist B embeds the ad.afdesign in his file with the 'place image tool'. Artist A makes a change in the file ad.afdesign. Now it would be nice if the ad embedded in the brochure would update, but that's not the case, right? Anything I'm missing here?

Hello designers and support. I've noticed something wrong with embedded .afdesign documents into artboard. In design, I using placed (for example logotypes) documents and after export as JPG or PDF file, those parts are empty, before update everything was fine. I use presets created before and the layers aren't hidden in export persona. What I do wrong? Thanks in advance for any answers.

Hello! I have imported a couple PSD files into Designer and found them to show up with the “Embedded Document” tag, but I haven’t discovered a way to access the embedded parts of said document. If someone could help me out with that I would be truly grateful!

Hello and a Merry Christmas to all in the Forum, I've been trying to find a good workflow for using Affinity Designer in my projects. I am fascinated by the embedded documents feature. Saw a couple of videos of how to live edit documents in documents but I want to do something different. I want to create a document with different artbords and place/embbed/link (?) this document in SEVERAL other documents. (It's UX Design - each artbord presents a different screenshot and the other documents are Usage Mockups, Adds and a User-Manual) Then I want to modify the First Document (UX-Artboards) and then make the other documents update to these changes. Can't find the button. Or do I have to use "replace" each and every time?

Hi , another question, or suggestion from my students. I was asked, if there´s a way, to easy right click or script for example, to get an option to export a chosen layer or group to get converted to an embedded object. At the moment as far as i know there´s only the possibility to place a document as an embedded file. but it also would be good in some cases to be able to convert an existing layer to an embedded object. thanks again for any answer.. Hi, I am wondering if there is a way to export an embedded file as a native Affinity file ? I know this can seem like an unusual need but it can occur more times then I'd thought. For now I create a new document with the same dimensions and copy paste the elements from the embedded document in it. It works but that’s not really pretty. The only other way I found is to export the file as a PSD then convert it back to AD but this seems a good way to loose some features and creates inaccuracies. Did I miss something or should it be added to the features requests ?

Hi all, I'm working on a Coordinate Image. In Designer I created several artboards to match my stationery elements, let's say "business cards", "letterhead", logos, mail signature and so on. The resulting file (let's call it ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN) is pretty technical and needs a bit of compositing to be presented to the Client. I decided to create a new file (let's call it PRESENTATION.AFDESIGN), all made of A4 artboards that shares the same backgrounds and my company details, in which I composed the visual presentation for the client, catching elements from ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN. I embedded ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN in PRESENTATION.AFDESIGN. While working on PRESENTATION, I needed to modify and create some new or ad-hoc artboards or elements in ARTBOARD original file. Double click, work on it and then close. Everything's worked fine. BUT the original ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN is not anymore updated, and it is stucked on a version before I embedded it in PRESENTATION.AFDESIGN It had been forked in twos: one stands still as before embedding, and the other is embedded and "ENCLOSED" in PRESENTATION file. So, what if I need to re-use the modified ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN (the updated embedded one) in another file? I mean that if I need to make another PRESENTATION2-SPECIAL-FOR-CEO and want to use the embedded updated one, how can I do that? The original ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN is no more updated (shame on that!!!) and a lot of suff added during PRESENTATION compositing are lacking and it seems there's no way to save the updated ARBOARDS.AFDESIGN out of embedded context. Am I wrong? Is there something I do not understand about it? Is there something missing on embedded management? Thank you so much

This might be feature request, or maybe I am doing something wrong? If I place/embed an AD document into an APhoto document, when I double click on the AD layer in APhoto it opens it in a new document tab also in Photo. My question is - if it is an AD document imported, shouldn't it open it in AD? The Edit in AD option is not available for this embedded document either. (linked documents as opposed to embedded would be nice also, but that's a different topic). Thanks, -damian
