  1. I have created a phone mockup, and placed it into my file. I now want multiple duplicates of my mockup in my file, but change them up a little. Is there a way to duplicated this embedded file without all duplicates referring to the same embedded file? I cannot unembed it because I use it to replace the screen of the mockup. I cannot place it again because I made changes to the mockup for it to better fit in the context of my file. How can I duplicate it without it pointing to the same "embedded file"? Many thanks in advance!
  2. Would be nice if you could add an option to treat embedded passthrough grayscale PDF as K100. I guess K Only or profile conversion option would be practical.
  3. Just curious if there is a standard practice for designers exporting PDFs using AD…when you create a pdf, do you prefer to embed your fonts in the pdf, or do you convert them to curves when exporting? (I assume “Convert to Curves” is the AD equivalent of Adobe’s “outline fonts”?) I haven’t run into any issues either way but wondered what others do. Thanks!
  4. I can't for the life of me figure out how to embed images on Designer. I've tried looking all over but nobody else seems to be running into this issue so I wonder if it is a dumb question. As I understand, whenever I place an object using either the option in file menu or Photo placing tool the image is automatically considered 'embeded' so that duplicates of that image can be edited simultaneously. I have tried importing a few different images, duplicating them, and then editing, but it will only edit one instance of the image. Additionally, if you look on the layers menu each of the objects says "image" rather than "embedded document" like I have seen on some tutorials. Maybe I'm doing something foolish? Help me figure it out. I want to know a way that I can edit duplicate objects simultaneously with the same changes.
  5. Hi all. Im on affinity publisher 1.8.1 on mac. When i try to export to pdf and select pdf/x-1a i get a color profile embedded by default. I'm not allowed to uncheck that option. Is there a workaround for this please? Why do i have embedded profiles in x1a
  6. Hi, Sorry if this has come up before (did search the forum), but is it so that Designer cannot link files, but instead always embeds them? I'm working on a Designer file atm, with a bunch of Photoshop images placed in the document. I received changed Photoshop files (same name), but when I re-open the Designer file the originally placed images don't reflect the changes. There's also no way -as far as I can find- to refresh the images placed in the documents. Strange thing is that if I select a placed image, I can select a link or embed option with the 'Replace Image' button. At least for files like .jpg, .png etc. Not for the .psd files already in the document unfortunately. So.. Is this something Designer is not capable of? And is there something coming for this, as the Designer beta has something for this afaik. This is very much part of a basic workflow, and also the ability to finally go from linked to embedded should be part of this as well. cheers for any answers or tips! 7. Is there a way to "Create Outlines" on text in Affinty? I'm new to Affinity Designer and have been using Illustrator for many years and while the interface on this is really good, it seems to be missing a crucial component that is required when preparing to send my work for output. My instructions are to: Embed/outline the fonts: When saving your file as a PDF, choose the option to embed the fonts. Even better send us a version of the file with all fonts outlined. However, despite having the "Embed fonts" checked off in the "Advanced" tax that appears when saving as a PDF, apparently that is not enough. I have just wasted a load of money on work that did not come out correctly. In particular, everywhere I have used a letter with a French accent aigu (É) the letter has come out incorrectly sized and pressed up against it's neighbour. How do I rectify this for my next output?
  8. I am looking for a way to "link" an object(s) rather than copying and pasting, or "placing" in such a way that a change to the original object is reflected wherever it has been used. For example, see the screenshot (I am using artboards here, but just for this example). I would like to a change to the objects in the "logo" artboard to be reflected in the "letterhead" and "envelope" artboards, for example changing the text from "A Logo" to "My Logo". Is there some approach that would allow this? Doesn't have to be between artboards... logo could be a separate document, etc. Thanks... I love using Affinity Designer, and use it for all my vector based work now.
  9. Can somebody tell me if fonts are automatically embedded when exporting to PDF? I can't find anywhere to select 'embed fonts'. Thank you!
  10. Hi, After clicking "Replace image" there are two options. Embed Picture and Link Picture. What's different?
  11. Hello, I have a problem with a pdf with embedded fonts, exported in Affinity Designer. When i open the pdf in Adobe Acrobat Pro and try to edit the text, I get the message that the original font is not available or can not be used for editing. The pdf is attached. In the properties window in Acrobat, the fonts are shown as embedded. I deactivated "subset fonts". The font is from Adobe Fonts. When I try the same with exporting a pdf from InDesign, it is working fine. Thanks in advance! Fonts not working in Acrobat.pdf
  12. Hello, In .afpub 1.7.0.145 for macOS Mojave, I've noticed that text formatting/font changes upon PDF import placement. It doesn't matter whether I set the document to place as an embedded image or linked. The PDF appears fine when opened on same system in other viewers (Apple Preview, Adobe Acrobat, & Pages). I suspected it could just be AfPub's preview of the placed PDF however it retains the wrong formatting upon exporting as PDF also. The solution to fix issues like this is to have the PDF Options dialog popup when a user selects File Menu - Place.
  13. In other DTP applications I've used, sometimes there are fonts that cannot be embedded for whatever reason. The usual reason is because they have copyright/license restrictions, but there are others that don't come to mind at the moment. The other DTP software outlines - converts to vectors - these fonts. I was wondering what Publisher did with fonts like these. Does it outline the text or do something else? I've had a look around the Help, various dialogs, and this forum and can't find anything related to embedding/outlining fonts. Also, on a related note, is there a way to force Publisher to outline either everything in a particular font, or a specific piece of text, or the contents of a specific text frame? I ask this question as I sometimes want to have certain text outlined so that non-human readers can't read the text - e.g. phone numbers, email addresses, etc. In other software I've used a specific font for these items and then told the software to outline everything that uses these fonts. I could manually convert certain items to curves but that's a bit awkward, especially for editing purposes. (Also, sometimes I find that a certain browser/PDF-reader has trouble with a certain fonts when they are embedded so I use outlining for this reason too.)
  14. My suggestion to (easier) embed or link resources: In Addition to the resource manager: Add a checkbox "embedded" to the context strip. if the checkbox is checked - the resource is embedded, otherwise the resource is linked. Optionally add a checkable menuitem to the contextmenu of the resource:
  15. Could it be possible to place linked PDF files (e.g. adverts created by third parties) without the need to have their embedded fonts on your system to display and export correctly?
  16. Hello! I know this is for AD desktop but what I was thinking it's a feature for both the desktop and the ipad version, btw i am really impressed with designer on the ipad, great work guys! Would it be possible if you had an option to embed the document's fonts into the .afdesign file, so if you want to continue working on the ipad (or the other way around) to have all the fonts ready and not have to worry about installing them? And installing all your desktop fonts to your ipad will take up so much disk space on the ipad. Thank you!
  17. Hello Affinity Support, Do you have an update on the jpeg embed metadata problem or a upcoming fix, as I really need metadata in my jpegs as a use D.A.M and losing metadata is really a BIG problem and lots of afp/afd users have commented on this bug. Are there other export formats I can use that will not suffer the problem. Regards Chris
  18. I just went to replace an image on an AD document and noticed this new option for Embed/Link. I haven't seen this mentioned on any changelogs - have you accidentally pushed out the feature too early? I also noticed images I tried to rename on my computer were throwing up an error because the file was 'already open in Affinity Designer', so it seems to be working.
  19. Hi, Is it somehow possible to import a SVG into an existing AD drawboard, and make the vectors part of the design, without working on it as an imbedded object?
  20. I noticed by searching the forums that in 2014 the ability to unembed a document was on the planning table. I am new and made a huge mistake of thinking the documents were linked like illustrator. Is there any way to unembed a document in designer?
  21. I'd like to clarify the role of the 'Document' when using artboards. I've created a number of files to combine into a single brochure and each one is on an artboard (to ease the final PDF export). To create the combined file I wanted to start with a blank document and embed all the files as kind of 'pages' in the order of my choosing. The problem I find is that the default 'Document' on a blank new file can't be deleted, except when you create an artboard, then it disappears (superceded by the artboard). So I have to start with one of my 'pages', then add more artboards, then re-save the file. But the starting 'page' won't be embedded in the same way as the rest. It just feels slightly disjointed and I wonder if I'm approaching this wrong?
  22. I created a document and placed a AD doc inside. I duplicate this embedded document (making 2-up thank you cards out of a 8.5x11). Then I go to edit this document to make some color changes for example, I get only one doc to update. Why won't both update since it was a duplicate of the embedded doc?
  23. Hi, I am thinking of downloading AD as I believe it will give us everything we require for a new business venture - the way Photoshop and Illustrator has gone subscription based really doesn't help small start up business. A quick question anyway - can you embed fonts before creating a PDF for export? I have searched and I believe AD doesn't support this feature at the moment but I hope to be proven wrong! If you aren't able to do this in AD, can you export as PDF and open in Pages on the same computer and embed fonts there before sending to an external print company? Thanks.
  24. It appears that every file I place gets embedded (concerning to the layers comment behind the objects name and concerning to the documents file size). Is there a way to place objects as linked instead embedded?
