  1. It used to be that an elliptical gradient had the first start in the centre of the object, and for the last point to be surrounding it near the edges (see Screenshot 2023-06-23 at 12.53.53) Now, for some reason, an elliptical gradient in any new objects I create have the first point appear in the left middle bit of the object, with the other points surrounding that instead (see Screenshot 2023-06-23 at 12.49.12) in most project files. The only way for me to get an elliptical gradient now is to copy an object (in this case a rectangle) from an existing project and change its colours because there was never any way to move the centre of the circle as far as I'm aware. If there is please tell me. That would be appreciated.
  2. I was wondering, now I am using a vector object with a 50% opacity and multiply blend mode, but could I also use an Ellipse vector object to clip adjustment layers with? The workflow is that I have symbols which should affect the background image. by darkening the portion of the symbol.
  3. I want something like this but I want small circles evenly around an ellipse instead of a circle. How can I do that?
  4. I would like to : • draw an ellipse outline over a photo (no fill in the ellipse) • select the pixels under (within) the ellipse • invert the selected pixels • darken the inverted pixels • Or, copy the pixels under the ellipse (or any other selection) and paste them on a new layer. I've been doing this for 30 years in Photoshop and GIMP but cannot do it in AFF Photo. The photograph is a pixel layer. In fact, I cannot even copy what's under the ellipse and paste in on a new layer. What's the secret?
  5. Hello guys, I'm currently testing out the Affinity suite and I have to say, I'm fairly impressed so far. I'm really considering making the jump and say goodbye to Adobe. However, there are still some functionalities I use daily that are still missing. From what I've seen, the selection feature to include "Select > same > ..." is something people really want too. I really hope this will arrive soon. Anyway, I wanted to ask you guy if you knew how I coud do to put an ellipse at the center of a line ? I have multiple separate lines and need to put a small circle in the middle of each. On Illustrator, I'd just select a line, "select > same appearance" to select all the lines and "Convert to shape > ellipse". These 2 features don't seem to be available on Affinity. Any ideas how to do that ?
  6. When I try and add a stroke to a circle with a brush texture instead of a simple line, I always have this issue where it does not connect properly. I tried converting the ellipse to curves and I've tried many different brushes, none of this worked. It only works when a use a simple line as a stroke. I am having this issue in Affinity Design. I'm not sure if it is a problem in Affinity Photo. You can see at the top of the circle where this happens.
  7. Hey, just wanted to share with you my latest tutorial on Affinity Designer. In this video you will learn how to create a nice looking flat design moon in Affinity Designer. Hope you'll find it useful! Click here to view the tutorial
  8. First off let me say that I love the feature of the ellipse tool, specifically the donut and pie features. I'm currious, in regards to the pie feature, do we have the option of removing the line connecting accross the ellipse, basically opening up the shape? CorelDRAW has this feature where when you drag the ellipse open, if you currsor is on outside of the ellipse the line goes away and if you are inside it stays. Of course Illustrator has the feature that allows you to change the thinkness of a line anywhere on the line, kind of line using the Pressure tool in AD. I find these features helpful when creating think/thin lines for technical illustrations. Please see attached illustration. The blue line has no connector line going across the major axis.
  9. Hi! I've just uploaded another tutorial on Affinity Designer. This one is about converting simple rectangles and ellipses into more complex shapes. If you like it, give it a thumbs up and leave a comment. Thanks! https://youtu.be/SeNhPOyE2kI
  10. Apologize if this is a duplicate but wasn't able to find the answer. Is it possible to resize an ellipse on its center as opposed to resizing the ellipse by its corner and then centering horizontally and vertically to an ellipse that i duplicated from? Thanks in advance.
  11. Hi all, I am looking for topics on Parallel Projections. What I was hoping to find was a method of drawing on axis. Example: with the isometric grid on, select the left side and draw a circle. Because you are in isometric mode your circle shows as an ellipse. I have been able to find the topic in Help, but that didn't "help". Thanks in advance.
  12. If I draw an ellipse and I choose "Align Stroke to Inside" the border shows a fine line with the same color of the filling. This line is not if I choose "Align Stroke to Outside".
  13. I am trying to convert a cluster of ellipses in a graph into a different shape (triangle, square, etc....). Is there a quick way to do this? Thanks,
  14. In my AD map docs there are many ellipses in one layer/group to show site locations. They are 40x20 pts in size with a stroke of 6 pts. I would like to resize them all 85% to 34x17 pts, and if possible reduce the stroke by 85% at the same time. In Illustrator I did this by "Transform Each" since transforming the entire group/layer would also reduce the width and height of the entire group and thus reposition of each ellipse. AD also treats the layer/group as unit, reflected in the width and height in Transform. Does AD have such a feature as Illustrator "Transform Each?"
  15. Hi everyone, I'm new with this tool and I just want to know how to crop a part of an image with a circle of an exact size, for example with a radius of 8.50 cm. I have been trying to do that with Ellipse Tool but I can't see any box to enter a size and I've been searching through this forum but I didn't found anything to help me. Maybe is something obvious but I can't see that. Thanks in advance and regards. Daniel.
  16. Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has found out how to easily make isometric circles or ellipses in Affinity Designer? In Illustrator, I could draw an isometric side of a cube, and use Effects > Stylize > Round Corners and set the value to max. When using the Rounded Corners tool in Affinity, it doesn't seem to product the same results. Any ideas? Thanks!
