  1. When working on a big layout I use copy on an object with Effects applied to it and than paste FX on the target objects to make sure all my objects get the exact same outer shadow. But it's not working as expected: when pasting the Effects on an object with a different size, the values of the Effects (at least with Outer Shadow) are different!! It looks like Designer does some sort of proportionally scaling to the surface of the object we paste the Fx unto, but that's not consistent and unwanted anyway. I don't know what Designer does with the values, but it's not pasting the FX the way se set them up and copied. This way paste FX is pretty useless, because we want to have the exact same effects on all our objects. At least with effects like Shadow, Glow etc. Now we still have to adjust all FX-values by hand, so copying and pasting didn't make much sense. I've been looking for a way to paste with absolute values (like checkboxes, preferences, a different menu item for it), but could't find it anywhere. Especially because we set the Outer Shadow value in pixels and not in percentages, we might expect the FX get copied with absolute values too. So I call this a bug. (Unfortunately rightnow I have to walk through all of my (around 100) objects in the file one by one to set the right Outer Shadow values... 'cause I just found out it isn't using the same shadow everywhere now... damn ) Hope this can be fixed soon, because copying and pasting FX is a pretty nice workflow that really speeds up the workflow and the way it is build now is just unusable!! Thanks in advance! fx-copies-values-relative-instead-of-absolute.mp4

    Trees,( painting)

Hello, I have tryed brushes, blanding modes an effects on paper surfaces. I think it is interesting to work free in Affinity. This one it is done in AffinityPhoto.
  3. It would be great if Affinity apps introduced Layer Effects (FX) masks, initially only one master mask for all effects, and perhaps even better, individual masks also available for each effect. Thanks for your consideration and all you do. Affinity apps are awesome!
  4. Hi everyone, I've just released a new 5 hour course at Udemy called Affinity Photo: Modern Special Effects and for an introductory offer you can use this coupon - ESPECIALFX to get the course for $9.99 instead of the full price of $59.99. Here's the link for it - Affinity Photo: Modern Special Effects In a series of tutorials, I'll show you how to combine the various Affinity Photo tools to recreate the most popular photo effects you can see today, and maybe come up with your own signature look. I'll show you the right way to use the tools along with any potential problems and things to watch for when you create a series of stunning effects. But flexibility is key here, so I'll also show you several ways to adapt your new recipes to meet the needs of different images. I'll make recommendations about which images are suitable for which special effect, and I'll be giving you exercises to practice what you have learned. I assume a basic knowledge of Affinity Photo. But, because we will be using some of the more professional grade tools, I provide some reference videos which isolate and explain how to use them. But here's the especially nice bit. I often do these kind of courses because I love learning new things but also because I think it's important that I go through the same process you do when you learn from one of my courses. I find the single biggest problem is taking notes. It's the single biggest thing that slows me down, sometimes by a factor of 4 or 5. So I've made the notes for you. You will find a 50 page .pdf waiting for you to download from Lecture 2. It contains extensive notes on the methods and processes I describe along with many screenshots. So much better than a load of scribbled notes that took you ages to write down... It's so easy when you create an effect to get the feeling that the software is doing the talking for you. Well, we'll change that. I'll go into enough detail about how to use the tools and the right workflow to use that you will gain a deeper understanding of the entire process. You'll be creating stunning, flexible effects. You'll be making your photos shine! Thanks for your time, Simon ... If you use Affinity Photo solely on the iPad you may want to wait for the version of this course that's especially for the iPad. I'm working on it now...
  5. A bug occurs when a masked object overlaps a shadowed object. The mask invades the space of the shadow, no mater if it is grouped or not. This bug does not happen with stable version 1.6x I am using AD 1.7.0.258 Obs: This bug occurs with AP beta too. 6. Dear all, I am quite a newbie to photo editing and Affinity Photo. But after a Udemy Course and hours of searching tutorials, I got stuck on one topic :) The problem: I took a product photo of my watch for my online shop and have many reflections on the polished metal of the bezel. You can see fingers from me triggering the camera on the reflection of the bezel and also some spots on the bezel are overexposed, but nevertheless, I like this shot. My questions is: Is it possible to achieve a polished metal effect with any tool and retexture the bezel of my watch? I want to achieve a reflection as on the attached image. I am looking forward to your help!

AD - Sketching a belt buckle

A few lines and effects in Affinity Designer's Draw Persona, a few brush strokes with the @Frankentoon brushes in Pixel Persona and the idea for a belt buckle takes shape. There is still a little work on the pixel drawn belt buckle but I think for a first idea which takes only a few minutes it's okay. Gürtelschnalle.mp4

    denim and leather

I did this following a Photoshop tutorial using Affinity Photo. I used the brushes that were offered in the tutorial but created my own denim texture in another program and then imported that into photo where I added a few adjustments.
  9. As a long-type PhotoShop user, I am used to being able to copy layer effects (fx) from one layer to another. This could be done with a context menu selection. I have not found this capability in Affinity Photo. Does it exist? I found another user had posted an answer regarding another of your products, but I don't see that feature in Affinity Photo. Thanks for your input.
  10. Today i want to just share with you a quick video of what i believe and think Serif Team should take in consideration and make available into the Affinity Range. Well the product they will choose that will have this ... is something i can't point out now but with the coming kind of enforced collaboration between all three products i really believe we should be able to make this kind of things with ease and not jump to other software's just to generate it knowing the portability and sometime compatibility is not properly working. Less words, now check in 1min what i'am referring to ! Requested_functions1.mp4
  11. I apologize if this topic was already covered. I searched and found nothing quite like the problem I am having. Summary: Brushes, strokes, and effect are limited in how far up they can be scaled, limiting the overall size of the image created. I have a small bullet-like object created on the iPad. After opening the file on my desktop app I realized it is too small, so I scale it up. As you can see, from the attached image, the brush strokes and effects don't scale up even though I have the stroke's Scale with Object selected. I tried to resize the gaussian blur effect, but it is limited (won't blur enough). So, I am assuming then that effects such as Gaussian blur, noise, and simple things like stroke thickness are somewhat limited when you use them in large works. Is that assumption correct? And what about brush textures? Those are bitmaps right, so how far can those be upscaled before losing clarity? Will creating larger brush textures remedy the problem, and will AD have vector brushes in the future? For now, I hope that by exporting to the final size the quality will be high enough to be used. Thoughts or ideas? Thanks -Bill

  14. I have looked all over the Affinity Forum to see how to create stripes in my artwork. Creating Stripes seems like it would be a standard effect. Does anyone know how to create stripes?? Thanks.
  15. Hello all! First of all, I must state that I am a complete beginner regarding affinity Designer although I am used to AI, maybe that's where the problem lays. I am using AD as a trial for now (plan on buying) and on windows 10, with a graphic tablet. First thing I am wondering is that is there anyway to rotate the workspace (studio?) in order to draw more naturally. I saw people doing that with Designer on Ipad (and I can do that in PS and AI) and it would be ace if it could be done in the desktop version. Problem is, I can't find anything related (and so far simple searches return zilch) Second question so far would be to know if there's a way to quickly - or defaulting, painstakingly - copy effects from one layer to another (either by drag and drop with a modifier key or without, or simply by "copy and paste")... Again, I can't find anything. I guess I can group the different layers and apply the effects on the group, but I usually apply effects by copy and pasting (PS/AI) and then sometimes modify the effects individually. For example: drop shadows and the way they interact with each others. I probably don't type in the right words, but I hope my queries make sense... I will have no doubts plenty of other questions to ask as I go along Thanks!
  17. Hi all Affinity Photo friends, two questions: Is there something like a Clipping Mask as in Photoshop? It seems to be, that the tweaking made in Effects tab has zero effect on e.g. Masks and Adjustment Layers. In case I don't do something wrong or just couldn't figure out how to do it: This must be urgently added... Need to blur a mask non destructively all the time. If there is a possibility, please let me know, many thanks in advance. Appreciate any reply!
  18. This is in Affinity Photo 1.6.4.104 on Windows 8.1. The file I uploaded shows the grid that showed up when I used the live lighting filter, added some texture (within the live lighting panel), and then went to the Effects palette and added a Gradient Overlay and changed its blend mode. To duplicate it, just open any image, add a live lighting filter with texture (- or +). Then go to the Effects palette, Gradient Overlay, set the opacity to 50% or so, and start changing blend mode. Once you see the grid, you can go back to the live lighting filter, set the texture to 0, and the grid will disappear. In this example the grid lines are kind of faint; that's because it's a low-quality jpg. When working in AP, the lines are distinct and sharp.
  19. When I paste effects, they are never the same as I copied. For example, outline always has different width.
  20. The people of School of motion are a big fan of affinity and today they posted this very detailed and wonderful tutorial on how to export from Affinity Designer® to Adobe® After Effects@. It may seem a little bit cumbersome, but I think it's worth it...specially if you try to avoid illustrator. The link: https://www.schoolofmotion.com/blog/save-affinity-designer-vector-files-after-effects Have a nice one! B.
  21. Is there a way to make the size of the tool panels larger for easier reading. I have attached a screenshot. I am showing just the Effects Panel, but you can see the text on the panel is really small and difficult to see, even with my readers on :-). Is there a way to zoom on the panels or make the displays larger?27-inch screen.

  23. Hallo, I want to add an outer glow to a text. Found a few resources saying that there is an outer and inner glow layer effect. However I cannot find these effects in the software. I searched in Layer - Live Filter Layers (german: "Neue Live-Filterebene") but could not find these filters. Where can I find these. Thanks in advance and regards - Ulrich
  24. Hi all, I am very new to Affinity Designer and am currently viewing this tutorial: At 1:17 they create an eclipse then apply the Gaussian blur to 100%. It reduces the image down to literally that.. a blur. However, when I follow the exact same steps this is what I receive: SEE ATTACHED. I am doing the exact same steps that they take. Any help?!
  25. Hi all I want to blur my mask. If I activate "Gaussian Blur" as Effect of an Adjustment Layer, it does not apply the effect to the mask. Checking "Preserve Alpha" has no effect either. HSL mask in attached image selected by Alt+Click on HSL Layer Greetings, Roland
