A few lines and effects in Affinity Designer's Draw Persona, a few brush strokes with the @Frankentoon brushes in Pixel Persona and the idea for a belt buckle takes shape. There is still a little work on the pixel drawn belt buckle but I think for a first idea which takes only a few minutes it's okay. Gürtelschnalle.mp4

I did this following a Photoshop tutorial using Affinity Photo. I used the brushes that were offered in the tutorial but created my own denim texture in another program and then imported that into photo where I added a few adjustments.

As a long-type PhotoShop user, I am used to being able to copy layer effects (fx) from one layer to another. This could be done with a context menu selection. I have not found this capability in Affinity Photo. Does it exist? I found another user had posted an answer regarding another of your products, but I don't see that feature in Affinity Photo. Thanks for your input. -
Today i want to just share with you a quick video of what i believe and think Serif Team should take in consideration and make available into the Affinity Range. Well the product they will choose that will have this ... is something i can't point out now but with the coming kind of enforced collaboration between all three products i really believe we should be able to make this kind of things with ease and not jump to other software's just to generate it knowing the portability and sometime compatibility is not properly working. I apologize if this topic was already covered. I searched and found nothing quite like the problem I am having. Summary: Brushes, strokes, and effect are limited in how far up they can be scaled, limiting the overall size of the image created. I have a small bullet-like object created on the iPad. After opening the file on my desktop app I realized it is too small, so I scale it up. As you can see, from the attached image, the brush strokes and effects don't scale up even though I have the stroke's Scale with Object selected. I tried to resize the gaussian blur effect, but it is limited (won't blur enough). So, I am assuming then that effects such as Gaussian blur, noise, and simple things like stroke thickness are somewhat limited when you use them in large works. Is that assumption correct? And what about brush textures? Those are bitmaps right, so how far can those be upscaled before losing clarity? Will creating larger brush textures remedy the problem, and will AD have vector brushes in the future? For now, I hope that by exporting to the final size the quality will be high enough to be used. Thoughts or ideas? Thanks -Bill

I have looked all over the Affinity Forum to see how to create stripes in my artwork. Creating Stripes seems like it would be a standard effect. Does anyone know how to create stripes?? Thanks. -
Hello all! First of all, I must state that I am a complete beginner regarding affinity Designer although I am used to AI, maybe that's where the problem lays. I am using AD as a trial for now (plan on buying) and on windows 10, with a graphic tablet. First thing I am wondering is that is there anyway to rotate the workspace (studio?) in order to draw more naturally. I saw people doing that with Designer on Ipad (and I can do that in PS and AI) and it would be ace if it could be done in the desktop version. Problem is, I can't find anything related (and so far simple searches return zilch) Second question so far would be to know if there's a way to quickly - or defaulting, painstakingly - copy effects from one layer to another (either by drag and drop with a modifier key or without, or simply by "copy and paste")... Again, I can't find anything. I guess I can group the different layers and apply the effects on the group, but I usually apply effects by copy and pasting (PS/AI) and then sometimes modify the effects individually. For example: drop shadows and the way they interact with each others. I probably don't type in the right words, but I hope my queries make sense... I will have no doubts plenty of other questions to ask as I go along Thanks! -
Bonjour, La boite de dialogue "Layers Effects" ne fonctionne pas correctement. Les paramètres liés aux différents effets n'apparaissent pas. L'effet par défaut est le flou gaussien qui se répète pour tous les autres. Par ailleurs les cases à cocher apparaissent sans qu'on les demande et systématiquement le flou gaussien est coché même si on le décoche. Pour info, je travaille sous Mac OSX High Sierra (10.13.6) sur un IMac 27" de 2013 -
Hi all Affinity Photo friends, two questions: Is there something like a Clipping Mask as in Photoshop? It seems to be, that the tweaking made in Effects tab has zero effect on e.g. Masks and Adjustment Layers. In case I don't do something wrong or just couldn't figure out how to do it: This must be urgently added... Need to blur a mask non destructively all the time. If there is a possibility, please let me know, many thanks in advance. Appreciate any reply! -
The people of School of motion are a big fan of affinity and today they posted this very detailed and wonderful tutorial on how to export from Affinity Designer® to Adobe® After Effects@. It may seem a little bit cumbersome, but I think it's worth it...specially if you try to avoid illustrator. Is there a way to make the size of the tool panels larger for easier reading. I have attached a screenshot. I am showing just the Effects Panel, but you can see the text on the panel is really small and difficult to see, even with my readers on :-). Is there a way to zoom on the panels or make the displays larger?27-inch screen.

Hallo, I want to add an outer glow to a text. Found a few resources saying that there is an outer and inner glow layer effect. However I cannot find these effects in the software. I searched in Layer - Live Filter Layers (german: "Neue Live-Filterebene") but could not find these filters. Where can I find these. Thanks in advance and regards - Ulrich -
Hi all, I am very new to Affinity Designer and am currently viewing this tutorial: At 1:17 they create an eclipse then apply the Gaussian blur to 100%. It reduces the image down to literally that.. a blur. However, when I follow the exact same steps this is what I receive: SEE ATTACHED. I am doing the exact same steps that they take. Any help?!

When I copy the 'effects' from one layer to another layer it does NOT copy the absolute values, but instead a kind of relative values. See attached photos. The first layer has an 'outline effect' of 20px. When I copy this effect to a second layer, this layer has now an 'outline' of 38,7px. I would very much like the option to copy the effect in absolute values, independent of the size of the layer the effect is copy to.

Hi everyone, I was asked if in Affinity i can get a comparable effect like the Pattern overlay in the Photoshop Layereffects. We use Embedded PDF files in Architectural Plans, and often a good way of improoving the Look is just to make a pattrn overlay in the Layereffects of Photohop, when replace the embedded pfd file.. is there any idea to do something comparable in Affinity Photo ?

I have a FH file that extensively uses the glow effect; I am wondering if AD can't open that? Another FH files without the effect appears to be able to open the file.

Hello. The photographic tutorials are really excellent. It seems very difficult to match the range of especially 3D effects in AP with those available in Photoshop, especially things like the tags above. This might be due to different methodologies. Is this something still in development perhaps? Would it be possible to produce some tutorials about this feature for AP? Or in Designer for that matter. I have tried to apply methods used in the past with Photoshop learned through the Photoshop Wow Books, things similar to glass marbles for example, but that doesn't seem to apply. Neither in Photo nor Designer.

Hi Everyone, I have some Questions about the perfect Workflow for Architects, Working with affinity Photo at first. We are a big Architectural Company, using untill now Photoshop and CAD Programms like Autocad and Revit, to produce Plans for Architectural presentations. A well established Workflow exists, Printing PDF Files from Autocad, with the used Layers, that later on can be refined in Photoshop thinking of colors, effects ore retouching things. 1. We export the needed PDF´s to a folder 2. We use Photoshop , using the PdF´s as linked embeded Smart Objects (and Photoshop gives an option to place them pecisely as i will show in my screenshots...) 3 Whenever the Plan changes, and beleave me the Plan can change a dozen times :-( , we only have to print the changed plans, replacing to older pdfs with new ones, and ......... bang... the Phhotoshop document updates because the linked smart objects now use the changed pdfs. Well i know linked smart objects do not allready exist in affinity PHoto, but i can place embeded pdf´s which fullfills my wishes half the way... this has to come in later releases of affinity Photo... now, i reproduced this workflow in affinity which we wish to switch to in the future as far as i could.. First Problem: How can i tell the placed pdf´s, to get imported exactly where i wish them to... (as i can in photoshop using the dialog box while importing and as i show in the screenshots ) ? Scound Problem: If theres no way to place the embedded pdf file.... is the way, using snaps as i show in the screenshots of my affinity workflow the only and best way ? What would you suggest to streamline this workflow ? Third Problem: When i dont Change the embedded pdfs, and i Plot them , everything seems fine. But when i use a Layer Effect (color overlay) which the architects use to change the Colores of the layer to the exact Color without thinking of it in the CAD Program, I Can see, that the embedded PDF in Affinity gets visible lines inside the Colored areas... And they get printed Too.... thats a real big Problem. When i open the embedded Pdf, i still can see its not a pixellayer, but a group of very many colored vector shapes.. but never the less. I dont mind , what affinity uses in the embedded Object, but when theres a colored area, there shouldnt be lines in there in any way.. it makes it unsuable. Is there a Workaround ? maybe instead of importing pdf´s, better to use eps files from the cad programm ? any ideas ? This is realy important, it has to be a smart workflow, because if not, my company using some hundred of Photoshop licenses will not be able to switch to affinity. Hi, I'm trying to create a shooting star effect that is similar to my avatar. This would include the strike through and the shiny star on the end. Please, can someone help or at least point me in the right direction if this is possible to create in AFD. -

What I mean? You know if you right klick a style you can only rename and delete, but it would be great if there would be an option that allowes you to say how you want the style to be transfered to your layer. If it only should add effects or only the properties... In my opinion you should be able to add more effects to a layer. This should make you able to duplicate the inner glow twice or other type of effects.
