  1. Hi, Could someone please tell me how can I get rid of these lines that always appear when I import a traced SVG? Thanks a lot!
  2. Hello, I recently bought Affinity Photo as a cheaper alternative to Photoshop. I am trying to crop and image from a background and use it in Movavi to create a slideshow. I tried exporting as a PNG which causes it to have a white background and as a TIFF which causes it to just become a black box. Could it be that Movavi doesnt accept these types of formats ? If I can get some help or clarification it would be much appreciated. Thanks mouse.tiff
  3. I’m evaluating the Affinity Designer Brush for my art drawing. One nice feature in Adobe Illustrator, I find, is the ability to edit a path by simply selecting it and hand-drawing over it. With each stroke, you get to remodel the path and refine it until perfect. Let’s say I draw an oval with the brush in free hand: there will be small bumps and flat areas, and the endpoints will be open. After selecting it, I can easily smoothen the curve by drawing over it, and I can connect the two endpoints and close the path smoothly the same way. The process is very natural and intuitive. So far I haven’t found a similar feature in Affinity Designer. It would be great to have it!
  4. WOW! Can I just say how awesome and robust the path vector editing is in Affinity Designer!! From the snapping to the alignment (especially when you hold down shift to align in either 90º, 45º, etc.). I'm becoming so impressed with this tool. The process is so clean and not clunky. Big praise!!
  5. Hi there, Have recently created a document on Affinity Designer with various text boxes and images throughout for a brochure. I have since saved the document as a PSD and PDF but when I re-open the PSD in Designer my text boxes are now "Pixel" layers and I can't seem to find a way to be able to edit them. I can see a way that I can re-select the text tool to add to the end, or type over my current text (in another layer), but I cannot "edit" the text box that was originally created? Would really appreciate the help with this, Thank you
  6. Hey Affinity team ! I love your photo editing software and I'd enjoy a lot if you did a video editing software ! It would be amazing ! Thanks for reading. LZ
  7. When it comes to organizing images in a DAM app can you please have a look at how Apples aperture organized them. They had Project, Album and Smart Albums. Then you could organize any of those items into folders. Also they allow a broad ranging choice of how to store the images, from within aperture library, an external folder on the HD or on an external HD, the options were limitless as well as automatically backing up the original images to a separate folder/drive. With work I will have multiple projects running dealing with between 2000 and 10000 images, Apertures organizing system made it a piece of cake to organize and categorize the images quickly and effectively so when it came time to make a movie out of the photos I did not need to pour through thousands of images as they were already organized in a way I could pull up the ones I needed straight away. I found lightrooms organizing system cumbersome and I had to go back and for between different projects (libraries), I want to see all my projects on the same screen as I tend to go back and forth between them quickly to compare. Can you also add editing capabilities for the basic edits like lightroom and aperture have and then link the photos into the Photo app for more advanced edits. For me aperture is the best DAM I have used and it is what made lightroom what it is today, it's a shame Apple discontinued it, but if you guys took on some of the organizing features that would be fantastic. Cheers JT
  8. Affinity Is The Best of All...But it would be good if we could edit & compose motion image like GIF...Can we get this in future update...!? :^) or I'm just pushing You guys in trouble...!!! :^(
  9. Hi, I was just surfing youtube yesterday and I came across a video by Sean Tucker: At 7:50, Sean uses hue saturation and lumance sliders to edit inividual colours in his image. I was wondering if you can do this in affinity photo. I am interested in buying it soon so any answer will help me in making my decision. Thanks, Jayvin.
  10. I am a total beginner having trouble with blemish removal. I keep getting the message I need to hold to have it work. I have tried holding down in various places, doesn't work. With the iPad Pro app, what different steps do I need to apply to get it to work? Thanks.
  11. I'm new to photo editing and when I look at all the different options available, I get overwhelmed and just don't know where to begin. I wish there was an explanation to what all the different options mean and an explanation of when and in which scenario they should be used. So, I'm wondering if such a website or video in AP exists? I watch all the tutorial videos but unless I understand when I should use the different options, e.g. masks, layers, brushes, etc., I won't be able to edit my photo properly. When I try to follow what's being done in the video on Vimeo, my photos look horrible then I get frustrated and just do basic editing on my computer.
  12. Hey developers. I work alot with photospheres and the option to add a life projection layer is really really useful. Still, I have a few suggestions which could make it even better. 1)Seam adjustment, take 1 Sometimes the "sideborders" of an unrolled sphere end up in a doorway or window. Just where one would typically add a hotspot in 360 tour creation software. Basically what would be great to be able to rotate the image in life projection mode and when the life projection is removed the outside borders are repositioned, avoiding the doorways. 2)Seam adustment, take 2 Most cameras which shoot with two 180degree lenses create small misalignments when autostitching them. Usually the overall result is great. Still, to have the option to mark the stiching line and then grab it from left and right to distort the adjacent picture areas along the stitching line until everything matches would be great. I know this can be done already by grid distortion, but an extra tool would make it simpler. 3)More editing options. Not sure if this could be done, but it would be absolutely awesome if the would be the option to somehow replace the whole floor or ceiling in a photosphere with another texture. The tricky part is that one can not edit very lare areas of the photosphere right now without funny results due to the distortion towards the floor. If this would be possible it would create awesome possibilities for interior designers who could easily offer modified 3D images with different floors or walls this way. 4)Button for life projection Could you perhaps add a button for the life projection? That would make life much easier, because you do not have to go through all the menus. Thanks so much for an already great piece of software.
  13. I am using a Macbook OS X Yosemite. I am very new to Affinity and have limited tech skills. I was editing a photo and left computer for a minute. I came back to photo on full screen with all the edit options disappeared. I have the tool bar that runs along the top of my screen only. I have shut down affinity several times and rebooted the computer. Is this a system crash or have I hit something I should not have?
  14. I have Lightroom version 5.7 I also have Photoshop which of course the two are from the same developer.... In Lightroom I have the option to Edit in and external Editor... 99% of the time I use Photoshop. Creative Cloud is becoming too expensive so I've luckily found this awesome program. Loving the tutorials etc... Ok my issue is that when I try to edit in external editor and I chose Affinity Developer as my choice that's all fine, but then I get this message. I took a screen shot of it... Now normally, this would work, however, today I just wiped my drive and reinstalled everything to give my computer a fresh start. (I use an iMac with OS X Sierra) Permissions are fine on all of my folders, that shouldn't be an issue. So does this error lie within Affinity Program at all? Please help! I would love to make this program my go to source.
  15. I have actually two questions. 1. Is there any way to make editing RAW images quicker with less sliders in Affinity, like some sort of AUTO feature. Right now I use Capture Pro from Phase One to develop my RAW images due to its very quick and less sliders are all over the place. 2. Capture Pro makes it very easy to develop Batch images all at once. As soon as the image enters Capture Pro, the image is automatically developed with the users saved preset or default presets available. Then I send the tiffs to Affinity Photo for the touch ups. I know Affinity can develop RAW files but is there any way to make it similar with Capture Pro quickness as well as Batch developing? I have a 1-3 day time frame I give out my images to clients. because of my current setup. Would love the wisdom of some professionals on this one. I am looking at getting an iPad because Affinity now being able to be used on there, I just need some wisdom. thank you.
  16. Hi again, I took about 500 photos over the weekend of a private family function and I wished to know how to edit the photos so that I can achieve the effect as shown in the screenshot below: Is there a fast or easy way to do it without much fuss? And in a way that I can duplicate the effect either using presets in develop persona or using batch processing in photo persona Thank you
  17. I have installed Affinity - I used Serif Photo before. I cannot seem to do a simple function such as: Using the Marque tools, selecting a selection of the image, selecting copy and paste into to the image/layer. Same for Cut command and pasting somewhere on the image. Am I missing something basic here? Using Windows version. Thanks
  18. While I'm on a roll, I figured I may as well post some more recent photography edited in Photo ;) Some of these you may recognise from the video tutorials: Lone Purple by James Ritson, on Flickr One of those nice surprises you get sometimes, I didn't think much of this photo until I started experimenting with blend modes - at which point it became very moody and striking. Spinning Out by James Ritson, on Flickr An abstract long-exposure shot of a spinning record. I was shooting some video for a personal project and decided to grab a few stills too. Monsal Tunnel by James Ritson, on Flickr A very wet day in Derbyshire, which kind of spoiled the view over Monsal Dale. There was this tunnel, however, which is really atmospheric with all the reflections from the damp areas. Sugar Factory At Night by James Ritson, on Flickr Shot at night, the initial image lacked impact until I brought in some brush work and blend modes - this resulted in the Creative Painting tutorial, where you can enhance colours in images with artificial lighting. Robin Hood Hotel by James Ritson, on Flickr A disused hotel building in Newark (Nottinghamshire), and I've brought some colour into the sign using brush work with blend modes (mainly Overlay, Reflect and Screen). That's all for now - just wanted to share some work, hope you find it interesting!
  19. Hey all, The Photo for Windows beta has proven incredibly popular, and I appreciate that, like with any software, there's a learning curve and the requirement to invest time in understanding the software's functionality and idiosyncrasies. With no firm commitment to delivering them consistently (that bit is important to note ;) ) I'd like to share some example editing/workflow videos. My aim is to demonstrate Photo's feature set and, hopefully, help viewers understand how the tools and features they're accustomed to using in other software can translate to Photo's implementations. If you haven't caught them already, it's also worth noting that there's a huge set of video tutorials for Photo available at http://affin.co/PhotoTuts - around 165 at last count. Here they are: Hadrian's Wall Link: https://vimeo.com/191642138 This video focuses on: Raw noise reduction and dithering Marquee selections from tonal ranges Layer masking Blend modes Blend ranges Channel duplication/loading to alpha mask Live filter layers Configurable layer behaviour Tiled Building Link: https://vimeo.com/191981432 This video focuses on: Accurate selections using selection brush tool Saving selections to spare channels Loading channel information into a layer's alpha mask Live brush previews Creative painting with blend modes Dynamic brush resizing on the fly Live Lighting filter Live filter layer mask painting Fast history scrubbing Portrait Retouching Link: https://vimeo.com/194985128 This video focuses on: Automated Frequency Separation Healing Brush and Clone Brush Merging visible layers Live filter layers Live brush previews and blend modes Changing/adding colour tones Changeable workflow behaviours via Assistant dialog Live scrubbing History panel Monochromatic Architecture Link: https://vimeo.com/194986066 This video focuses on: Adjustment Layers Live brush work with live previews Painting & Erasing Live filter layers Non-destructive noise/grain addition Canary Wharf Link: https://vimeo.com/203283705 This video focuses on: RAW development Tone Curve option Apply Image with channel equations Black & White adjustment with Multiply blend mode to knock out sky colour Pixel painting to enhance colours Curves tonal adjustment Live Unsharp Mask filter for final sharpening Banded Demoiselle Link: https://vimeo.com/203294769 This video focuses on: Creating selections with the Selection Brush Inverting a selection Masking an adjustment using a selection Tweaking layer opacity Live Lighting filter with blend mode Live High Pass filter with masking White Balance for tinting I'll keep you posted as further videos appear. Hope they prove helpful to you!
  20. As the title says, when I lock a layer (click on lock icon) in AP 1.5.1 I can still edit the layer, i.e. erasing content. Very annoying. Also cannot select multiple layers for grouping, etc., using Wacom stylus and Intuos 5 (driver v. 6.3.20-4). Please fix ASAP.
  21. Thanks for making the Photo Windows beta available. I look forward to testing it. I even forced myself to switch to an Aero UI to allow using the Beta. I am presently a Lightroom user and thus accustomed to fully non-destructive editing. In case it is relevant I edit Nikon RAW images, and usually export to JPG or TIFF. So I would normally start in the Develop persona. I'd like to clarify what editing is and is not non-destructive within Affinity Photo. Is this accurate: Anything done with an adjustment layer is non-destructive. Are filter layers also non-destructive? Is everything else destructive in the sense of getting baked into the image when done so it cannot later be undone? If the above is accurate then I gather the entire Develop module is destructive? If I save to an Affinity Photo document is it accurate that everything is effectively non-destructive in that the document can be re-opened, previous edits adjusted or deleted, and a new versioin of an image exported? Is the Affinity Photo document large - i.e. does it contain a copy of the image or is it only the editing instructions similar to a Lightroom .XMP sidecar file? Thanks, Pete
  22. A few days back I was using Affinity Designer (Windows), designing a logo and modifying a pre-existing font to suit my needs when it hit me. I wanted to design my own font/fonts! I searched the web to find a program that might be good for this, but all the programs on the market didn't look too amazing. The interfaces looked clumsy, unappealing and even though I am sure that they are good, I felt as if they were limited and always needed a separate program to complement them for their lack in one area or another. In most of the videos and tutorials I watched, people tended to use Adobe Illustrator to make the letters and then import the paths into the font editor. So I thought to myself; "What if Affinity Designer would have a font editor built into it, or a stand-alone software that would have the amazing interface of Affinity Designer and its ease of use?". So my suggestion is, that it would be AMAZING to have/buy an extension for Affinity Designer to be able to edit and export fonts! I do know that it is not "just" programming an extension/add-on of that sort to Affinity, but I can't imagine it being too difficult either. I mean you have all the tools that are needed for the job and the extra "specific" tools for font editing could perhaps fit under a new persona in the upper left? A font persona. That would make Affinity even more of a killer software! It would be nice if you guys considered adding this. I mean I really like Affinity Designer and I will most likely buy it on release, but I would also love to buy a font editor from you since I know that you would make it easy and fun to work with!
  23. When I open AP I have lost the vertical editing window on the right side of the image window. How do I reopen this tool? Thanks!!
  24. Hello Everyone, I'm new here. I have a problem editing separate layers using "adjustments" icons in the layer panel. I have tried to switch on and off the "Edit All Layers" icon. Didn't help. To be more specific. I', trying to make a artwork resembling the Olympic flag using cassette tape reels. I've cut a part of an image from another document and pasted it into a new black document I'm currently having problems with. I've copied this cut out in to 5 separate layers and tried to re colour them into the colours resembling the Olympic logo. Anytime I do that the changes are applied to the whole image. Any idea why is that? Thanks!
