  1. I am very new to Affinity and am very excited about finding this product. I have been trying to edit a cropped portion of a very old black and white bitmap image. The only image of a sign in the background of a photo taken of my grandparents grocery store. I had been searching for months for a way to edit that one portion of the photo and colorize it to make a print as a gift. I only found Affinity two weeks ago and have been searching on YouTube for tutorials on adding color. I have learned a lot about using vector and isolating each letter but I am not sure how to consolidate the layers of the image to stabilize the color of each character. I have not even gotten to the background. Can I find specific instruction online to help me understand this? Time is not on my side and I need to finish this project soon. I am using Picture and Designer. Any ideas or direction will be appreciated.
  2. With photoshop this is pretty straight forward and I do not know what I am missing. I have a level adjustment and I slide the dark side in. Now I want to paint part of it back. If I use black or white it just leaves gray streaks. Please see videocast. What am I missing? https://www.dropbox.com/s/gjuq2zymnnkl3fc/Recording %23134.mp4?dl=0
  3. Affinity Photo Tutorial | In this video, We will learn, How to apply a blur effect on any photo background like the Expensive DSLR Camera effect. #affinitytuts #affinityphoto #blureffect
  4. The EXIF information is available during the Develop Persona, but not available in the Photo Persona. Can we have an easy way to access the EXIF data whilst editing? Please? AS it is, one must switch modes (Personas) back to Develop to see EXIF data. Whilst editing, some decision are made using EXIF data (e.g.- "How much noise suppression do I normally use for this ISO?", "Did I shoot that at 12mm or 14mm?") Thanks. Walt Palmer
  5. With this recent update the ability to "Alt+Mask layer" within a group has changed. Previously, I would be able to create a layer which allows me to brighten sections, such as the eyes of an animal. Now everytime I do the same process, it goes transparent. Any help is greatly appreciated :)
  6. I've been experiencing a number of app freezes on my iMac while creating a custom brush for a project this morning. Creating a new brush is easy, but as soon as I start changing the values of the "Size" and/or "Spacing" (although I haven't even tried changing other options) in the brush editor, I get the spinning rainbow wheel. I hoped that the app was just processing the request to change those values (and taking a bit longer than usual), but it ultimately froze up completely, resulting in me having to Force Quit Photo. Upon reopening, I tried it again, and the same thing happened over and over again. All I created was a standard Round brush, and when trying to change the values in the brush editor, I experienced app freezes every time, without fail. Entering the value is not an issue, but pressing 'tab' to enter the next value section, or simply clicking in the next box with my mouse results in a total freeze.
  7. I have Affinity Photo on my iPad Pro. Update 1.7.1. How do I get all the photo editing options that this image shows another iPad user having?
  8. Coming from 20+ years using Adobe Flash as my vector editor, I have difficulty with a few concepts in Affinity Designer that are way more complicated than I was expecting. Maybe I haven't figured this out yet, but: - why can't I just merge stacking vector layers into a single shape? Not as various objects in a layer, but joined together as one single shape? - why can't I just select a line-section between two anchorpoints an delete it? (break curve doesn't seem to be the solution for this...) Also I miss options like expand and contract fills(?) Maybe this is part of me getting to know Designer, but for me these are basic features for a vector based editor...
  9. I am attempting to load .nef files into a stack then load them into the photo persona to edit each image individually as a layer. When i get them all loaded as layers, I cannot perform simple edits such as paint brush or erase. Even adding layer masks seems to do nothing. The only manipulation I can manage is the clone tool. I thought at first that it was because of having to develop the raw files but i have the same issue when loading images as .jpeg files in the stack. I've followed the steps layed out in your tutorial videos but they don't exactly conform to the technique i use for composite light painting images. Without diving too deep into my process, I stack the images then either paint or erase out my lighting as necessary. I'm a relatively new user coming, I must be missing something. The attached image is a flattened version of my raws. There's gold in there, I'm just trying to set it free, please help.
  10. Hi, I've imported a purchased EPS file to AP and it comes in as a layered file with the first layer being an identical of the second layer which is titled 'image.' If I flatten the image in order to edit it (I need to rearrange objects within the graphic by cutting and pasting, erasing, etc.) it becomes rasterized and loses definition. If I try and select just a portion of the graphic with the lasso tool to move it AP moves the whole graphic. How can I edit this graphic without rasterizing it? Thank you!
  11. Does anyone know if you are able to batch edit a lot of photos. So I know about batch processing with macros but with that I can't individually tweak images (if for instance a few photos are underexposed). Is there a way to edit a whole bunch of photos in a quick manner and export as a batch?
  12. This should be simple but I can't figure it out. After I make some edits using the gradient tool I move on. a little later in the editing process, I decided I want to come back to the grdient and change the direction of the gradient or move a node, however, I'm unable to make the gradient tools stuff show up again. What am I doing wrong?
  13. Hello. I'd like to request a feature to lasso a selection -> Copy selection -> Paste that selection. It's a basic feature I use all the time in PS and Easy Paint Sai and would love to have it available in Affinity. I've copied a simple example of how I use Lasso selection + Copy selection --> Paste Selection Thank you.
  14. Hi, hoping for some help. I’d like to convert a dashed stroke on a curve into individual curves. Not an expand stroke, per se, as that will result in a series of closed shapes. Much simpler, just individual curves. Is there a technique for this? I am using using affinity designer on the iPad.
  15. Hi, I got Affinity Photo on my iPad Pro 10.5 soon after upgrading for iOS 12. I shoot with Pentax K-70 mostly in native RAW, that is PEF format. I used Lightroom since past 7-8 years, I also have trial version of LR mobile on my iPad. I really like the simplicity and output from LR. With very minimal tweaking LR gives excellent RAW development. But major limitation of LR Mobile app is that it cannot save RAW file in various lossless formats, moreover there are limitations of resizing the files on LR while exporting. Both of these things are taken care by Affinity but I don’t like it’s image output. Mostly the images do not match my taste or need to do too much tweaking to match output of my liking. The major culprit I find in development work flow of AP is the lack of grey point based white balance tool. Which I find very handy in most image editing apps/software. It takes care of both temperature and tint with their perfect interdependence in a single go. Does anyone else know any workaround or feel same like me? I am posting images from LR and AP to show what am I pointing to. Image 3 is AP and 4 is LR output files. And this is my first post so please pardon my mistakes, if any. Atindra
  16. How/where/what format does AP save edited RAW images from Apple Photos database? This includes both photos editing as an extension and using the Image > Edit with command. My concerns are the ever-increasing size of my local Apple Photos database and the syncing to other devices in the Cloud, and of course the Cloud size requirements. Based on this information I hope to calculate my photo storage growth needs then determine if it can be sustained "as is" or if I'll need to find another solution. Thanks
  17. I would love to see the feature that Lightroom has where you can select a color from your photo with the colour picker, and change the colour with the slider. See example video where the skin colour is edited this way in Lightroom. This would be so useful!
  18. Would love to make contact with anyone or all that are using Affinity for the restoration of old and vintage photos. Am interested in the techniques you are using, work flow, etc. I am currently using Photoshop CC 2018 and would like to move away from. Have been a Serif user for many years and have always had excellent success with their software. Just trying to short-circuit the learning curve to get started with Affinity. Many thanks to those that respond and be assured I will return the courtesy. Jerry Snow - Pop's Custom Products

And if yes, What to you put on the first screen, what do you put on the second ? Is there a way to have several ajustements open at the same Time on one screen, and just the picture shown ok the second ? Thanks a lot, Regards, Ken.

Hello, I am a photographer and I use my photos to create imaginary landscapes with Affinitiy Photo. I love this program and I actually dropped Photoshop to use Affinity Photo for retouching my portrait photos. But here, I propose this first imaginary digital composition with Affinity Photo. (Google translation, sorry.)
  21. Up until now I have been a PaintShop Pro (PSP) and Photoshop (PS) user and was expecting Affinity Photo to support the Magic Wand function. Instead, Photo uses 'Brushes' to do the same thing, but I haven't encountered any tutorials that show me how to use your function with the same level of accuracy and precision that PS and PSP do. For instance, whilst selecting parts of an image for applying effects/actions to, I am finding that even when the colours are dramatically different, it overlaps the boundary even when the mouse isn't close to these areas. Maybe I am just not used to Photo, or I haven't found the controls that will enable me to 'pin down' how critically I want your alternative function to work. If you know PS or PSP, you will know by using it, just what I mean, so can you enlighten me on how I get your function to work as precisely as the Magic Wand does when using PS and PSP? I am currently trialling Photo, so a prompt reply would be appreciated, as in other sespects it seems to be pretty good.
  22. Hello all ! I am Chrisas, a french student in graphic design and programming. I'm a user (BIG FAN) of Serif's softwares since October 2016. It really helped me in several fields such as logo design, illustration, web design, apparel and social media graphics. Since I started working with affinity designer and photo, I bought some specific resources I discovered after several days of research. But There was one problem, there is not a place to buy, sell or present resources for affinity softwares. I mean for illustrator and photoshop you can found thousands of stuff in any sorts related to them. Example : to present my work I sometimes have to open photoshop to use mockups ( i'm a mockup lover) but I always want to speedup my workflow so my idea is to create resources that will be useful for other creatives like me. I built some stuff for myself but I do not know what will be useful for you, what you need, and what you are looking for. For now, my aim is graphics pack about : assets, macros, colors palettes, styles, and mockups, uikits. The purpose is to make the work of creatives easier, faster and funnier. So here is my question , what kind of resources do you need ? I am open to any suggestions, so feel free to comment ! > An Illustration project I'm working on : https://prnt.sc/inpq5g > My dribbble : http://dribbble.com/chrisas > My Portfolio (5 months of work are missing x) ) http://behance.net/chrisas
  23. Hi, I am still a novice at graphic design and I hope I'm not asking for too much with this question. I would like to take this image (and others I have created) and make them editable in AD or AP. I'm asking for best ways to convert the file, and what to convert it too, so I can change the colors of the lines, make the background transparent, etc. Hugely complicated - I know. But it can't hurt to ask, can it? I'm also experimenting on how to actually make these kinds of designs in AD, with some luck, but not much. Your help is greatly appreciated. Bill
  24. Hello, First I want to thank you guys for the great tool Affinity Photo you have created for us to use. It takes some time to addapt to it, but it certainly works really good. I have an issue I want to tell you about. I am taking the product photos for an online shop and it's a big collection. I have developed some Macros, and lately I have been suffering from LOW DISK SPACE. Well, I started looking for the reason and I saw that the reason was 'My pictures' folder. I told you it's a big collection and I have thousands of photos. The Macro I apply is very simple: Exposition correction Curves editing Streightening + Square Crop Adding 3 guidelines and that is all. Should be simple. Of course, I need to keep the working file until the Season is over, just in case. But the thing is, these simple steps are converting my 5MB pictures into 50MB .afphoto files and it's eating up my Storage Space. Thank you for your work and I hope you will be able to solve this in following updates. Best, Anelia
  25. When I'm editing a sunset photo with people in the foreground I select the sky to enhance colors then I flip my selection to brighten the people & the foreground because that part of the photo is often under exposed. Because I'm editing the two halves of the photo separately, there is often a grey and sometimes neon yellow line that gets created where the two halves of the photo meet (right down the selection line). Is there a best practices way to avoid or fix this issue so it looks less edited? I've noticed even slight enhancements can cause this line. Thanks, I'm new to all things photo editing!
