  1. I already know of: 1) Power duplicate - requires to duplicate each object, and overall a very bad and slow way to duplicate to a grid, because if you need to change the spacing between objects, you need to redo everything from scratch. 2) Align - space horizontally/vertically, uncheck "auto distribute", and then select the distance between objects. This still requires manually duplicating each object, however it does allow to change distance between objects instantly. This works for one row or column, but then goes completely insane when I try to replicate said column/row using the same method into a grid - all objects end up at arbitrary distances and most fly over the edge of the document entirely. So I can't even make a grid using this method. Any other ideas? In Publisher if I remember correctly you could make a grid layout, adjust it by dragging, drop an object into a cell, and it is auto-replicated in all other cells.
  2. BUG - tested on a new document New Document Create a Text box Double Click on Text to highlight Right click and select Interactive > Add Anchor The selected text is used as the Anchor text Check in Anchor panel that Anchor is created Double Click on Text to highlight Right click and select new option Interactive > Anchor Properties Edit the text Check in Anchor panel - another Anchor is created - so two Anchors even though you intended only one but edited it. See screen shot showing this stage. Double Click on Text again to highlight Right click and select Interactive > Delete Anchor Check in Anchor panel and the first Anchor with original text has been deleted. Each time you edit Anchor Properties a new anchor is created - so you must continually delete the old one. The correct behaviour should be that when you select Anchor Properties that you are changing the existing anchor - and not just piling a new one on top of the old one. The correct menu item name to edit an Anchor Property should be Edit Anchor Properties - so that it is clearer that this is where you can change Anchors. FEATURE REQUESTS 1. Alternatively you should be able to edit an Anchor Property in the Anchor Panel. 2. The Anchor Panel should display the Anchors in the page order on which they appear - not alphabetically. Or alternatively there should be a sort option. 3. When you select Export Anchors as Bookmarks in the PDF export dialog it would be nice if this was persistent and when you restart Publisher that this option is remembered. The reason I use Anchors at all is in order to create Bookmarks in PDF exports - this is a requirement for submitting PDFs to governmental bodies in my country. This is the main reason I use Publisher in fact - so I can generate the book marks and manage the pages in my submissions. It would be even more helpful if there was an option for Anchors act as Page Bookmarks - some PDF readers scroll to the text that the anchor is attached to - so if the anchor is applied to text at the bottom of the page (because that's there the text is in an illustration) the PDF reader scrolls too far.
  3. Hi guys, can someone please provide me with an upload link for a QT video and an .afdesign file (230mb in total)? It's all explained there. Addendum: the duplication bug doesn't happen in .afphoto. There the perspective is maintained. TIA, Helmar
  4. I've just spent over an hour trying to replicate the problem with dummy text, but of course it only happens when I'm using the real thing. 🙄 I'm trying to format a novel. At the beginning of each chapter, I want a "sink" (i.e., the text starting partway down the page). I've tried to do this in two different ways: 1) put a text frame on the actual page, Place the *.docx file, flow the text, and adjust the text frames manually at the start of each chapter; 2) make linked text frames in Master Pages (including one with a sink), Place the *.docx file on the actual page, flow the text, and apply the appropriate Master Page to the start of each chapter. That all works great... except that, sometimes, no matter which method I use, I run into a problem of duplicating text when the chapter starts on a left page. The bottom line of the left page is duplicated on the top of the right page. I can fix this by momentarily adjusting the text frame (this seems to snap the lines back into submission). So what's the problem? This change doesn't stay saved. I can go through my file and fix all the instances of duplicating lines and save the file. Everything looks fine. If I export it at that point, there aren't any problems. But if I save, close the file, and open it again, all the lines that I fixed are duplicated again. This is a huge time-waster, since it means I'll need to go through the whole book every time I want to export because I can't trust that my changes have been saved.
  5. Hi all, not sure whether I've found a bug or its just me not seeing a simple mistake. duplication issue.afdesign Here's what I do... I create a document 2000px x 2000px I use Guide Manager to place guides at 50% horizontally and vertically. I create a path with a stroke of .25px Align: centre. Stroke size doesn't really matter, as it does not affect the outcome. The path can be placed either vertically, horizontally or restricted to 45º The 45º angle was to get a path length that would not fall short in the document but it doesn't matter really these are just the placements I have tried as starting points. Checked paths rotational node placement was 1000, 1000px I moved the paths rotation centre to the centre of the document (1000,1000px) Initially I wanted to rotate by 5º but noticed as I duplicated the paths the duplicated paths were out of alignment at 90º, 180º and 270º To test I created the path again and duplicated by the restricted 15º by holding shift down as I rotated, this aligned to the 90º, 180º and 270º correctly. So, I tried rotation by 5º again and this confirmed the misalignment. If you continue the duplication the offset is equal and you will end up with consistent bands. Continued duplication by the restricted 15º always keeps alignment I made two groups one coloured black and one coloured pink, the starting path's are both accurately aligned at the vertical point, once you start rotating thats when it all goes wrong. So it really shouldn't be misaligned if 15º can align why can't 5º Pink is the 5º duplication
  6. In this short tutorial I'll show you how to draw simple polygon spirals in Affinity Designer 1.6.0. We will use the rotation origin, transformation panel and the duplicate function. Link to the video on YouTube Enjoy the video and have fun to draw your own polygon spirals. It's simple but interesting! Norbert
  7. For quite some time I have noticed an inconsistency in layer duplication whereby if a layer was duplicated with a selection present sometimes only the selected area would duplicate and sometimes the entire layer would duplicate ignoring the selection. It seemed completely random. It isn't ...... I have finally discovered what is going on and it's very odd. If I duplicate using Layer > Duplicate or using the shortcut Cmd J the selection is respected and only the selected area is duplicated (which I presume is how it should be). If I duplicate by right clicking in the Layers Palette and selecting Duplicate from the context menu the selection is ignored and the entire layer is duplicated. Now at last I figured out what is going on it's no problem. In fact it could even be considered as quite useful to have the two different modes of duplication. However I suspect this isn't intentional. I wondered if anyone else had come across this ........ and whether it needs reporting to the top cats.
  8. Hi there, I'm trying AD beta on Windows and the latest's working great! In fact, I'm liking it so much that I'm planning to go through the tutorials and see how much I can squeeze it in order, hopefully, to completely switch to it and ditch AI. So far I've been able to find most of the basic stuff by myself, except for the AI transform effect. Is there something similar for AD? Here's what I mean:
  9. Hello I've got two issues with duplicating objects. These aren't exactly bugs as it looks like they are so by design, but they fool me every time so I'm wondering what the rationale behind them is. 1. I first have to select an object before duplicating it by holding the alt-key while dragging the object. This is not the case when I just want to move the object, because this can be done without selecting it first. Is there a good reason for this behavior? 2. When duplicating an object and moving it immediately (for example when you drag the object with the alt-key pressed) Affinity registers two actions behind the screens: first it duplicates, then it moves the new object. This is confusing when undoing the duplication: it requires two undo's while it looks like you've only did one action. This results in having unwanted duplications right on top of the original. Thanks! Bauke
  10. Hi, I'm new here and with AD and AP, I'm quite enjoying it. Now I'm working on a card deck design as you can see here: https://www.behance.net/wip/1735405 and I love the snapping features of AD. There are some issues I'm experiencing that need to be solved. I use an Apple Magic Mouse 2 and every time I click+command I get a duplicated layer, I don't need this behavior when I'm trying to just get to a grouped layer. Also the canvas pans and objects moves. Objects with same global colors are inconsistent as you can see the attached image. The red blue and yellow in this affinity design file should be the same as they have the same global color. Note that some times when I copy and paste an object to a new artboard the color changes. Any way to duplicate an artboard with it's guidelines? Is there a live mirror feature? very useful to design the King, Queen and Jack. I really need to be able to trust AD as I can't send this to print with this problems. Thanks in advance! Ale
  11. Duplication is Command + J, Grouping is Command + G, which I find used a lot, yet they are “zoned” on opposite sides of the keyboard due to reach of each key with one hand (while the other is on the mouse or drawing tablet). Workflow commands like duplication, grouping, copy, paste would be much better UX wise to keep commands that are common to one side of the keyboard. (imo) So, suggestion is to make Command + D the default duplication shortcut.
  12. Is there consideration of adding an offset option to the duplication? Explanation - if you're wanting to make columns of stripes, you could make the first line, then set the horizontal offset to 1/8", then just keep duplicating the previous object. Or, object could be offset could be vertical, or both.
