  1. Hello, everyone. I noticed that in V2, the current DPI of selected bitmaps is no longer shown. Would it be possible for this feature to make a comeback? Here are some screenshots to illustrate the issue V1: V2: Have a great day!
  2. Hi everyone, I am facing some issues exporting .pdfs in Word documents, where images (.svg exported from AD) look pixilated in the pdf document. I check the svg by opening in Inkscape and PowerPoint, and the svg looks ok (not pixilated and with layers). So, I am guessing that there is a problem during the export of the pdf by Word. I know this is not the place to solve this issue, but it is just to give you the context. So, after some troubleshooting I found out that like when background layer is locked the svg exported from affinity is pixilated, which was easy to solve. However, this lead me to think that maybe there are rules or better practices to prepare documents that would reduce the problems (rasterized element within the svg). Since I am in a hurry, I just rasterize elements where I used transparencies and blend modes, and (so, I used the new "pixel" layer, and turn off the group), but in here I found out that naturally different dpi gave different results. What is the recommended dpi to use to rasterize when you want to print (A4)? I tried 300 dpi and it was bad, so I used 3000 dpi to rasterize (because it was when I notice that the original image was not pixilated), then changed back to 300 dpi before export. Is there a better way to work that avoids this possible bad practice? Is there a rule for the grouping of the elements in the file to guarantee a good export? For example, is it ok if a .tiff file is within a group that also contains art text? or should this elements be ungrouped instead? When you have a picture that you need to apply a black&white adjustment, how do you do to export the svg properly? what settings to used? I used artboards to make the figures, and applied during the export the preset svg (for export), and a custom svg export with the option not to rasterize anything. Hope it is not confusing.   3. Currently, if I link a vector PDF, it may come in as rasterised: Changing the settings to interpret, rather than passthrough allows me to get it to display as a vector. However, I would like to also be able to change the resolution the document is rendered in after linking it in. If I change these settings, it scales the document, I would instead like to increase the resolution only, so I can use the passthrough mode. So for instance the 581x652 pixels would be increased/ decreased accordingly. Ideally, I would like a DPI change, but not have my document be scaled.
  4. How can I check resolution, dimensions, etc. after creating a document and saving it if using a PC? Also, can I change the DPI from say, 72 to 300 AFTER I have created a document (and forgot to set it at 300 in the beginning)? I have saved the document in the afphoto format. I am going to have it printed at a print shop, and it's a sign with large letters. Naturally I want to be sure that the letters and some graphics print at the optimum resolution. Right now, I cannot remember what I set the resolution at during the doc setup process. Thanks!

Bug: When the document is exported to SVG format, the units and values are compromised Proposed Solution: Respect the unit configuration in the document setup, and don't do any conversions, just export the values as they are in the document. Description: When the document setup has units set to mm, the exported SVG defines the dimensions in pixels. Actually regardless of any setup, the export of SVG is in pixels. It's frustrating that there is no DXF support, so can you at least fix the SVG dimensions to export in proper units? I've tried every combination of export SVG "more" options, but no luck. Technically what seems to be happening is that you are calculating the pixels based on the document DPI setting and making a viewBox with the most awkward "user coordinate system" that is in pixels derived from the DPI against the unit used. Honestly, DPI should have nothing to do with this, and it seems that this DPI setting in Affinity Designer is unnecessarily creating problems where it shouldn't be, here and in other places. What is concerning is if you import an SVG from another application that has mm units, it is imported with the expected identical structure. When you use the export provided by Affinity Design, and then reimport it to the same program, it is not identical, but rather distorted in very strange ways. Clearly his is a side effect from the erroneous unit conversions. Comments: Do you understand how much easier it would be for you to simply skip the DPI and skip the calculations and just give straight 1:1 unit definition in the xml output? It really seems that you are overcomplicating the situation and doing unnecessary conversions, which even if they did coincidentally match up with the current DPI, would still be slightly off due to the floating points that are being rounded. You do realize that SVG has built in unit support right? You can explicitly set all dimensional properties in mm (height="20mm")
  6. I created a set of macros to change the DPI of an image, originally in Photo 1.6 which worked well then, and worked in later versions. I found however, thet re-recording these macros in later versions (including 1.10) do not work. I report here my investigations as to what is going wrong. I re-created the individual macros using a simple image to work on. They all seemed to work OK. I then tried on a different image and discovered that they do not. What seems to have happened is that the macro records the size of the image when recording, so that when applied to another image it resizes to that new size, despite the Resample box not being ticked.   8. Hi Guys, Im currently working on a name badges template for a company. The size in Affinity designer is 74mm x 24mm When I export to pdf and print it they are 70mm x 23. This is also when "fit" is turned off. Is there anything I need to change when exporting to pdf? could DPI have anything to do with it? srry Im a web guy and not a print guy :P Hope you can help.
  9. Hello, is it normal that I have a small resolution from high quality files?...I try to explain myself with practical examples... If I open 3 RAW files (for example with different exposure of the same subject) first in Develop Persona, after in Photo Persona and copy/paste them in the same document, to blend them and create a manual HDR, the final file has a resolution of 300 dpi, while if I create a file from New HDR Merge with the same RAW files, the final result it has a resolution of 96 dpi The same also if I stack the RAW files to align them or whatever: manually the final file has 300dpi, if I stack them automatically with the stacking procedure, the final image has 96dpi. I have a question: why does APh change the 96 dpi resolution of my final image when the initial images have a resolution of 300 dpi? Will this scaling affect print quality in any way? Thank you

  12. Vector art & text look so crisp on my ipad screen. But when I print them they look low DPI and have jagged edges. Non Affinity Designer docs print fine, so it’s not the printer. I’m not printing directly from the app, or from my iPad, because AirPrint is totally (insert bad word here). I have already tried: Increasing resolution of documents to 300dpi, 600dpi, & 1200dpi. Exporting documents as PDF for print. Setting dpi in export settings to 300dpi & 600dpi. Setting Rasterizing in export settings to unsupported properties, nothing, and everything. Making sure layer opacity set to Normal in all layers. I’m using a USB laser printer. This is my first post. Any help appreciated.
  13. I'm having trouble figuring out how to export a JPEG for print. The document is set to print and is 300 dpi, however, when I save, the image is 72 dpi. I don't see an option in the save settings (attached).
  14. I think the app is missing a tool, or I can not finding it, to know what's the DPI of an imported image into a document (or even the real size of the image file in pixels, its resolution). I found that if I important an image I can not tell if the image has the dpi needed for good quality depending of the size it is placed in the design... the only way I can know that is using some math, with the size of the image in inches in the document compared to the resolution of the imported image, but that takes time when there should be some kind of bar, tab or tool where one can see DPI and other relevant info of the images in the document.
  15. I had a few images around 60 or something.... with different resolutions 150dpis or 300dpis and with different aspect ratios. I opened them all, and recoded macro in first image with "unchecking Resample" and changed DPI to 72. Added this macro to Library. Library view... Now i wanted to run this macro on all documents by just switching tabs ... Command + ~ and click on macro. But this is not working it is also scaling the later images matching to the first image. Is this a bug or what? or I should use some different method..
  16. Hi, I am looking for advice on how to properly set up my canvas in Affinity Photo for print. I have only created composites for use across web and digital content - never print. Few things to know: - I do not use my own photos, only royalty free imagery from sites like Pixaby. So I never begin with a set “background”. - I would like to set up my canvas for large prints (i.e 24x36, 16x20, etc). However, is there a way to set up these sizes that is scalable so that I have the option to print it much smaller if I wanted, without distorting the image? - I’m not certain how DPI, pixel size, and resizing come into play when dealing with print. Any advice is much appreciated - thank you!

  18. I want to know how Affinity Designer decides what the stroke weight of strokes for shape tools should be when applying a textured intensity brush as the stroke with the Brushes panel/studio. In the default set of textured intensity brushes in the Brushes panel/studio, "Classic Pencil HB" from the "Pencils" category (the one that appears at the top of the list for me) has a default brush width of 128. If I select the Vector Brush Tool and then the Classic Pencil HB in the Brushes panel, the "Width:" value in the Context Toolbar says "128 px". However, when I actually draw a curve with the Vector Brush Tool and select the curve with the Move Tool or the Node Tool, the stroke width for that curve says "64 pt"—exactly half. Why isn't it 128 px, like Classic Pencil HB says in the Brushes panel? Likewise, when I create a shape using one of the shape tools, like the Rectangle Tool, and then apply Classic Pencil HB as the stroke, it's also 64 pt. Is this somehow related to the DPI value in the "Document Setup…" dialog box? If so, what is the relationship—how do the mechanics of this work? There appears to be some relationship between pt, px, and DPI that I don't understand.
  19. Hi ! When I develop my raw files (CR2 of Canon 6D) the DPI are to 72. I read Affinity Photo take the default DPI in Exif datas, but I shooted in 300 DPI and when I try in Photoshop the DPI are to 300. Then I try with another raw file (NEF) and the default DPI are to 300. I tested with Affinity Photo version 1.8.3 (641). Maybe Affinity read badly the Canon 6D Raw Files ? I searched how manualy change the DPI in Develop Personna but I fond anything. Thanks for any help you can give to me!
  20. Affinity Photo PDF Export No Bueno No matter which DPI setting I select, the export takes over 2 minutes, and the output file is always the same large size and high resolution. At this point I'm having to use third part software to create reasonably small PDFs from Exported PNG files, and this seems quite silly. My Affinity Photo file size does seem quite large (33,572 KB) as the the initial images I started with were on the order of only 4,000 KB I am running Version 1.7.3.481 an it was freshly installed within the last month or so. Has anyone encountered this? Has anyone solved it?
  21. I'm unsure whether this is a bug or expected behaviour in v1.7 but it is a change from v1.6 so I'm raising it as a possible bug. I frequently copy and paste images from Affinity Photo to Affinity Designer. The images in Affinity Photo are always by default 144 dpi (because they are screen grabs from a Mac Retina Display). By default when I open the screen grab in AP the document defaults to pixels as its unit of measurement (which is fine). I then have an AD 'print' document set to 300 dpi and by default use mm for the units. In version 1.6 when I copied the AP file/layer and pasted it into my AD file, AD would 'honour' the pixel size of the AP file regardless of the difference in dpi between the two documents, so e.g. if the AP file/layer I'm copying is 2,000 x 2,000px, when pasted into my AD file it was pasted as 169.33 x 169.33mm, i.e. 2,000 x 2,000px, so no conversion took place to account for the difference between the different dpi settings between AP and AD. In version 1.7 this is not the case, taking the same scenario as above, AP document at 144dpi, default units set to pixels, AD document at 300dpi, default units set to mm. When copy/pasting between the two, the 144dpi file/layer pastes at 352.78 x 352.78mm which is 4,166.67 x 4,166.67px, i.e. it has resampled the pasted layer to honour the pixel resolution of the AD document (2,000px at 144dpi = 4,166.67px at 300dpi). However, if before pasting the AP file/layer I change my AD document from mm to px units, maintaining the 300dpi document resolution, when I paste the same 2,000 x 2,000px layer from AP, it is pasted into AD at 2,000 x 2,000px and not 4,166.67 x 4,166.67px which seems a little odd, so it is ignoring the difference between the two document resolutions. So my question is this, is this 'expected' behaviour in v1.7 or a 'bug', as in, shouldn't pasting the file/layer honour the conversion between the two different document pixel resolutions and adjust accordingly or should it paste at the same original size regardless of the difference between the AP and AD dpi's and document units which is the way it worked in v1.6, i.e. in v1.6 with the same set up as above, when I pasted the 2,000 x 2,000px file/layer from a 144dpi AP document with units set to pixels into a 300dpi AD document it pasted at 2,000 x 2,000px regardless of whether my AD document was set to mm or pixels.
  22. If would be nice, if AF photo displays the resolution of an image at a specific size like PS do it in the bottomleft of an imagewindow. So you can decide on one look if the image is printable. The image in the sample isnt (72dpi on imagesize 224 x 338 mm).
  23. I've got a bunch of files exported from Affinity Publisher that have all come out at the wrong DPI (all exported images are 96 DPI despite the documents being 72 DPI). As I can't seem to find a solution to that, and I've already exported a bunch of assets, I'm attempting to fix these images via a macro and a batch process. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like that's going to be viable either. The only way I've found to change the document DPI is through the resize document method, but this is unsuitable for use in a macro. When you run the "resize document" as a macro, it attempts to replicate the exact settings of the recording. This means instead of adjusting the DPI, and resizing the document in relation to that DPI change, it sets the DPI and scales the document to match the original documents size was at the time of recording. Is this intended behaviour? Could there be another way of approaching this?
  24. I would like to print at 600 DPI which my Xerox Phaser 6180 printer supports but I cannot set a DPI higher than 400 in Affinity Photo for MAC OSX. Whether I create a new blank document or load a 6000 x 4000 pixel image, the only values available to me are: 72, 96, 144, 192, 300, and 400.
