  1. Hello I have a question regarding the use of expressions on macros. This is the situation: I have several images with different sizes, and I need to create a macro to change the canvas. Since the images have different sizes, I need to use expressions but somehow I cannot make it work. Let's assume 2 images: Image A: 2100x1000px Image B: 1900x700px I need to add 200px at the bottom of the image. I add the expression +=200 to the height, unlocking the padlock and placing the anchor on top. It works fine but the macro saves the final value (in Image A it would be 1200px) and not the expression. If I apply the same macro to image B, the final image will have 1200px instead of 900px. Am I doing something wrong? Thank you in advance
  2. Hey there, I always forget to check the "Save History File with Document" after creating a new one. I understand, that not everybody wants to save the history by default, because it would make a lot of files a lot larger (I guess so?). But for others it would be nice to have a Checkbox in the (User-)Settings to get the history saved with the document by default when saving a document. Perhaps it would even be possible, to have a "per document"-exception-setting. Greetings, Johannes
  3. As AP is not capable of adapting some effects e.g. gaussian blur to a resized document I'm forced to rasterize complex structure with elements that won't adapt. In this case I imported my watermark to a picture. I made it available in high res to be able to adapt it to any docsize that might come up. Before resizing the watermark to desired output dimensions II have to reasterize it for before mentioned reasons. The boundaries of the watermark exceed the document boundaries After rasterizing this object consisting of text and pixel layers the boundaries of the watermark getting cropped at the document edges: leaving the resulting layer in a completely unusable/wrecked state: Assuming that we are facing a bug here (and not a "feature") I'd think it would be good to take a closer look that this behaviour ... 4. 1. Is there a way to crop the document/canvas/artboard to the exact rectangular area of the selected objects? In photoshop, you could cmd+click on the layer's thumbnail to select the entire object in the layer, then press C to switch to crop tool, and it automatically fits the crop area to the selection, so you get the minimum canvas size that fits the object. How do you achieve this in AD? While it's able to cmd+click on a layer to select the objects, I can't figure out a way to do the cropping for the canvas other than adjusting the document size with numbers. 2. when exporting, the "Area" dropdown menu is greyed out, how do I enable it? Thanks
  5. Hello, I have a problem with a document in Affinity Designer. I saved it and the artboards were aligned in the right way. Then I closed Affinity Designer and opened it again. Now the artboards are aligned the wrong way round. You find the screenshots below. Thanks for your help! Karl Grotheer
  6. Hi, Sometimes I'm assembling components on a page, but I'm working on a canvas that is sized towards the end result. Is there a way to keep objects dragged off-canvas visible or do I have to switch to a "canvas + artboard" model to keep track of those objects? If, for instance, I create an A4 landscape canvas and drag an object outside the canvas area it basically becomes invisible and can only retrieved by either block selecting the whole area and dragging it on the canvas again or highlighting the relevant layer and dragging it back onto the canvas. Is there a setting for the off-canvas border to remain behind objects dragged off-canvas? Attached: example circle partly vanishing when being off-canvas Cheers!
  7. Using the app's icon as the icon for every document is very confusing. Since it is so easy to implement, please have proper CFBundleTypeIconFiles.
  8. I'd like to clarify the role of the 'Document' when using artboards. I've created a number of files to combine into a single brochure and each one is on an artboard (to ease the final PDF export). To create the combined file I wanted to start with a blank document and embed all the files as kind of 'pages' in the order of my choosing. The problem I find is that the default 'Document' on a blank new file can't be deleted, except when you create an artboard, then it disappears (superceded by the artboard). So I have to start with one of my 'pages', then add more artboards, then re-save the file. But the starting 'page' won't be embedded in the same way as the rest. It just feels slightly disjointed and I wonder if I'm approaching this wrong?
  9. Hi, I have the problem, that the roll-out window of the document settings will be placed under other floating windows like "color", "transformation" so that under circumstances you have to rearrange your workspace to see and modify the document settings. After changing the document settings, I have to rearrange my windows again. Workaround: before you enter your document settings hit tab to get rid of your UI ( then press Shift+CMD+P to open document settings window )
  10. Hi all, my experience with tabbing documents in AD is not that good. To be honest: i wasn't even sure it is already implemented at all. Because I am used to this function way more "fluent". What I mean is: try tabbing in your Safari Browser or open PDFs in Adobe Reader ... you can hit CTRL+Tab just some milliseconds and you will be tabbing your open tabs or documents. Then switch to AD and try tabbing between 2 open files. It won't work. You really have to hold down CTRL, click on tab, "wait" till your files where switched and then release CTRL. For me this delay is annoying and unnecessary time wasting. On top of it, as I said - I didn't realized that this function has already been implemented. I hope this will be "fixed" in the near future. Cheers, Stefan.
  11. It would be nice to have an option for the "default font size". This could also be saved within a document and be set as "advanced options" if one creates a new document.
  12. I "Created New" with Artboard checked and Portrait unchecked, Type = Print, DPI = 400. Thereafter when I go back to Document Setup, DPI is back to 300 and Portrait is now checked and locked. If I just hit enter the artboard switches to portrait. So once the new doc is created I can't change Document Setup. Seems like the Document Setup window is ignoring previous settings?
  13. Hi, Would be great if you could select something and then right click to make document the size of the selection (crop document to selection). Perhaps with an option to enter some padding around the object. /Sten Hougaard
  14. Hello, a few months use Affinity Photo, it is possible to create contact sheets directly or via a plug in ? Thanks
  15. Hi Guys, Im currently working on a name badges template for a company. The size in Affinity designer is 74mm x 24mm When I export to pdf and print it they are 70mm x 23. This is also when "fit" is turned off. Is there anything I need to change when exporting to pdf? could DPI have anything to do with it? srry Im a web guy and not a print guy :P Hope you can help.
  16. Affinity Designer: I have some full res photos which I use in a current postcard sized project. I need to create a poster and just want to copy everything o a new document. The problem is, however, that the photos loose saturation when being copied to the other document. Is there any way to get around this bug? I don't want to start from all over. I noticed this bug in previous versions of affinity designer. See the screenshots for reference.
  17. I m a fairly new user of Affinity and still learning the many features of the program, but am enjoying the experience nonetheless. There is one area that is causing me some frustration. When I open a raw file (select, File., open and file that I have exported to Affinity specific folder), I can perform most editing functions from the options on the right panel. However, after watching I training video about using a layer and sharpening mask i went to open either "Layer" or "Filter" from pull down menu, but both options were not present. Without a file open, My menu shows from left to right: File, Edit, Text, Layer, Document, Select, Arrange, Filters, View, Window, Help. With a file open the Menu show: File, Edit, View, Window, Help. (see attached screen shot) Of course with the few options I am limited to what I can do. Any ideas? All options on Studio are checked and have been reset, but I understand they relate to the right panel anyway. Any help would be most welcome.
  18. Hi, I frequently need to create fairly light coloured designs, and that is a royal pain* on a transparent or white background, especially if parts of what I do need transparency. At present I draw a page-size box, colour it and lock it in the background (to stop it from being selected), but this feels a kludge - did I miss something? Is there an alternative to "white" for a non-transparent background? Is there a way in which I can set an alternative colour for the drawing background? Even just changing the grey boxes in the white-and-grey boxes that represent a transparent background would be a help. The idea is thus to define an alternative for what remains transparent in export. Cheers, P * presidential pain for nations without royalty :)
  19. Hi! I would like to ask for having some features similar to Freehand, with wich I used to create everything: logos, baners... and also LAYOUTS. I made even a newspaper :) I know it´s not between the core skills Freehand was designed for, but I was thankful because of its possibilities. It is the only thing I miss: A MULTIPAGE BOARD. Right now, you can create ONLY one page per document. I wonder if it will be possible to create several pages in the same document.
  20. Hi All I am very new to Affinity photo and have learned much by searching this forum. However with this task I am stuck so impelled to ask for advice. I am trying to change my photo dpi from 72 to 100 and higher. I use "Document Resize" and it does change but when I export it to a desktop folder the "Info" indicates that it is still only 72 dpi. I am after best quality of course, so from reading here I am using "Lanczos 3 (non separable) I have tried with the resample box checked and again with it unchecked to no avail. Where am I going wrong ? (2015 macbook Pro) Andy
  21. Hello Affinity team, I cannot tell if this is by design or just an oversight in regards to Designer and Photo… I am unable to add any guides to the document while any tool is selected other than the black arrow move tool. While working and wanting to quickly throw in a guideline, I find it to be an interruption to have to switch a tool just to add a guide to a specific location, I feel like it should always be available to drag onto the canvas at (well, almost) anytime. If a tool other than the black arrow is selected, the ability to add guides does work using the guide manager as a workaround, however using the guide manager is not nearly as fluid and can be cumbersome compared to the natural maneuver of just dragging it in where you want it. Tested using latest builds as of July 25, 2015 Thank you
  22. My question right now is how to compile multiple images into a layout for a website header. I created a new document as a web file with a transparent background. I created a new layer, opened my first image, and copy/pasted it into the document, but it pasted onto the background and not the new layer. So I can't move it, and I'm not sure how to put it onto a different layer and keep the background layer clear. As a disclaimer: I'm trying to learn Affinity Photo without prior experience with Photoshop or any other similar editing program. I would love any help someone can offer! Thanks so much! :-) ~ Stacey
  23. Simple password protection of a document. Much like Pages, Numbers has. There are certain documents I would like to encrypt and protect. For professional work which sometimes requires some protection, or clients who have classified projects, I would like to have some password option.
  24. Hi does anyone have any idea how to stop (or disable) the document (canvas) from moving around. It can be a bit annoying when you slightly touch the mouse and it would cause the document to move. This issue also happen when click and hold the mouse to select objects in the document, but when you release it to confirm your selection, the document would sometime jump a little bit. May I request for the next update to allow users to disable the document from moving around? :)
  25. In this screenshot, which of the two tabs is the current document? This problem is worst when there are exactly two documents open. With three, then there's an odd-one-out that is brighter. But with only two, there's no indication whether bright or dark means 'current'. In fact, I'd say brightening the current document's tab is misleading, since if you continue the tab metaphor, the tab with a background colour closest to the canvas (i.e. darker) creates more of a tab-like affordance. This does actually cause me a problem. After a month of using the application quite regularly, I still find myself clicking the wrong tab.
