  1. I don't really have any other information about this other than the title. Sometimes loading displacement maps work, others it causes the app to crash instantaneously. I'm making my own maps using the same technique for all and saving in the same format, TIFF 8bit greyscale. No point in attaching the files that cause crashes since it seems to happen at random, sometimes the exact same files crash the app while other times it works just fine. I have however attached the latest crash report, which happened with a displacement map. It might help narrow down the cause. Thanks! EDIT: I was just fiddling around and it seems like saving the displacement maps as JPEG instead of TIFF reduces the amount of crashes. Might just be a coincident too. f831d2b6-6567-487b-9d67-b5a32cddc877.dmp attachment_Log.txt
  2. Hello again … Once more we return to Fun In The Sun, or … Questions With No Known Answer. Pick one - can't be wrong, might be right. But to the point: Today’s Primary Question is: Can Affinity Photo utilise displacement maps in the manner Photoshop does? If so, is it allowable to be told what is the Double-Secret Majickal Incantation spoken in hushed tones so as to appease the Gods of Displacement Map Headings? Our Bonus Round question: What ‘secret sauce’ is required in order to blend two images so that the lower (bottom) image is revealed by the partial concealment of the upper (top) image in the stack? I've clicked ‘The Cog’ and changed the “linear” setting to freeform for the Master and the individual colors, which does allow for a bit more customisation and ‘bleed-thru’ of layering, but it still appears to be a bit dodgy. Granted, it may be lack of skill on the part of the operator, but if there’s something that allows for a bit more precision in the blending, why, the knowledge of how to achieve that is muchly desired. Thanks again to all for your collective and individual insight into these (and, to be sure, other) problems in the ongoing Process of Learning the Mystical Yet Somehow Marginally Profound Secrets of Affinity Photo’s Inner Sanctum & Discreet Operations …
  3. Hello, I'm trying to create a displacement map. I use this in a lot of video editors, but here in Affinity Photo it doesn't work (or I don't understand it any more). I use version 1.9.0.9132 I've tried everything like 8bit 16bit 32bitHDR, rasterize layer, parent and child layers swapped, colours adjusting... but nothing works! Can you help me please?
  4. Hello everyone ! I have recently started to do some glitch art , and for this i tend to use displacement maps quite often since they blend textures and colors well . However I noticed that when exporting the results differ quite a bit , in this case the displacement effect seems to be "milder" in the export than in the actual work : While working : After exporting :
  5. Photo & Draw have come a long way in a short time, haven't opened PS in over 6 months. :P any-hoo, the question: When it comes to bump map creation, I do not want to have to add Gimp to my workflow. Gimp has built in tone map and bump map as well as plugin called Insane Bump. (any way to make that plugin work in Photo?) for 3D images, Normal, AO, Specular, and Bump Map layers are used to map onto a surface for realistic effects. In addition; a Displacement Map or Tonal Map for use in milling / CNC relief cutting, and laser engraving. It seems to me that these ends can be achieved with Affinity Designer / Photo, however; my lack of understanding of both CNC and Affinity has me at a loss. Any help?
