I was converting a number of different image formats to jpg and wound up with several (too many?) graphics programs open at the same time. When I tried to open Affinity Designer, it crashed halfway through opening. Got the new logo up and the panels flickered a bit then boom! Gone. Closed everything else, tried again. Crash. Repaired permissions. Restarted. Crash. Deleted Designer. Downloaded and installed anew. Crash. Zapped PRAM. Crash. This is part of the crash log sent to Apple. Any ideas on what I can do next?

Hey guys, I am working with this psd file from which I need to export some layers (rasters). I kind of manage to do it by selecting those images, copying them, pasting somewhere else, exporting... This is not a pro way to do it I guess ;) I there any more gentle way of exporting psd layers via Affinity Designer? All I need is to select an element, and save it to a separate .png or.jpg file. Any help would me much appreciated, Thanks in advance, Greg -

Hey there, first of all I would like to compliment the Affinity team for such a fantastic work on the user interface of both of the apps. They're really beautiful and feel really native and modern. A lot of little details make them a joy to work with. I have one question though, and it's related to the one thing that has bothered me a bit: I have a Retina MBP, and on both Affinity Photo and Designer, as I'm painting, moving objects around or typing, I get these "pixelated"/non-retina visuals that stay on for like half a second, before the normal "retina" graphics come back. My understanding is that this is some sort of optimization to make the interface more responsive and real time as you edit the document. Is that correct? If so, is it possible to disable this optimization entirely? I found it to be really distracting, and I'd rather have the document update be a little slower than have the whole viewport switch between retina/non-retina graphics constantly. Note: I'm currently on El Capitan Beta, so I had to install the Affinity Photo and Designer Betas. This could also be an issue with the betas/something that is not on the release versions... In that case should I report a bug? I can provide a screen capture if you can't reproduce this issue. Thanks. -
Software : Affinity Designer 1.3.2 (in French) under 10.8 macOS Subject : The Layers panel change suddenly. Observation: I load my document with three layer groups. The layers panel shows a triangle to the left of each of the three names. Suddenly, the panel has changed without reason. The triangle to the left of the group name has disappeared and a small triangle has appeared to his right. It became impossible to develop any group. I can not find documentation on this. Hi everyone, I have been self publishing my first book, it is an origami tutorial ebook, everything goes well but recently both the Affinity Photo Beta and Affinity Designer Trial I using to process the photo diagram and designing the book have been expired, I want to continue my work with both apps but I can't afford to buy them. I tried to use other free open sources but their difficult interface and poor performance plus I have to relearn everything in this short time really didn't work for me! I have made a fundraiser page to collect donation to buy those apps. total $100 is needed, 5 dollar or 1 dollar per person will helped me a lot to get my goal. I will get my application result to university soon and later will start my university life if the application success. After that, I will have no time to make it. I am using both Designer and Photo on my MacBook Pro. I am wondering if owners of the software can install them on more than one computer? Essentially to use as a backup when out of the office and on the road. I also have a MacMini mid-2010. I would be using it either on one or the other computer, but not at the same time. Hi all. I recently purchased both Affinity Designer and Photo (The latest versions from the Apple Store, not the betas), and have been loving them. I have used and am familiar with Illustrator, Photoshop, Gimp and Inkscape. I have been trying to master Designer and Photo, and am liking the workflow over even adobe's offerings. I love the innovative personas. I have run into some issues though. In Designer, I went for the Warp tool (Edit>Transform>Warp in Photoshop) and could not find it. I tried the help menu, this forum, and searching for it, but came up blank. Is it labeled under some other name in Affinity? I also attempted to create a brush from a png i created, but Designer compressed the image until it was much flatter, ruining the brush for me. I know that I am probably just missing something in both scenarios, so I appreciate any attempt to educate me. Maybe I need the Betas? I apologize for my incompetence. Using the history panel can be quite dangerous. If you select a step in your history and click in your document, all your future steps are lost (because you made a new selection, starting from the step you selected in the history). There is no way of getting them back as any undo action will start from the step you selected going backwards. I think the history panel should have it's own undo function. Moreover, but this may be regarded as a feature request: what I felt I should be able to do, is to remove a step, for instance the deletion of an object that I want to get back.

The two options for layers should be accessible from the layer label. Now there is a checkbox to show or hide a layer which is easy to work with. The lock functionality has to be accessed from the top of the panel. It seems more logical to have a locked/unlocked icon to enable or disable the lock state. Of course, having a closed/open eye for the visibility state would be nice in that case. PS: funny thing is that it is possible to unlock a layer by clicking the lock-icon. But you can't lock it clicking in the same spot...

Hello Affinity team, I cannot tell if this is by design or just an oversight in regards to Designer and Photo… I am unable to add any guides to the document while any tool is selected other than the black arrow move tool. While working and wanting to quickly throw in a guideline, I find it to be an interruption to have to switch a tool just to add a guide to a specific location, I feel like it should always be available to drag onto the canvas at (well, almost) anytime. If a tool other than the black arrow is selected, the ability to add guides does work using the guide manager as a workaround, however using the guide manager is not nearly as fluid and can be cumbersome compared to the natural maneuver of just dragging it in where you want it. First of all, great product! Several of the things I'm wishing for are already on the roadmap, so I won't bother wasting your time repeating them here. So first of all, my gripes. After first buying this illustration software, I was literally dumbfounded at the lack of a dedicated LINE tool. I finally figured out how to use the pen tool to accomplish the task (awkward). I was then blown away by the complete lack of arrows for the ends of line segments (I mean, even the most basic drawing program nowadays has these things). Those are probably two of my biggest gripes. And as for the Arrow shape tool, control of the arrowheads at each end using the toolbar was really cumbersome until I figured out to use the control points (toolbar controls not very intuitive). Additionally, I don't particularly care for the Command-J shortcut for the Duplicate function, but I can live with it. Also, I would prefer to have the VIEW commands available from a pop-up menu somewhere within the workspace window. It's also rather awkward in my opinion not having access to a document window's title bar, as I routinely do things like duplicate the current file or revealing the file in the Finder, all from the title bar; I know I can accomplish the same tasks another way, but it's not normal. With your Callout tools (rounded rectangle and ellipse), I found it disappointing that it's so cumbersome to attach text to the callout (I mean that's the whole point of a callout isn't it?); whenever I would try to attach text to a callout using the Frame Text tool, the callout itself would disappear! And when I created dashed lines, the controls available for dashed lines didn't do what I expected (as far as dash spacing), and turned out to be very unintuitive. When creating text on a path, it's unclear to me how the software decides whether to place the text on the outside or inside of the path (it seemed rather random to me). Also, twice in a row, when attempting to use the Intersect tool with two simple overlapping shapes (an oval and an arrow shape), it would lock up the program (progress bar running indefinitely). And another thing… I discovered that once you fill a shape with a gradient, there's no obvious way to get rid of the gradient and go back to a simple color fill without going through the extra steps of filling both ends of the gradient with the same color. Those are my main complaints; now on to feature requests. While we're talking about gradients, I would like to see the ability to do compound gradients (more than two color points). I would also very much like to see text morphing capabilities in Designer (the lack of such capability is especially curious since it's available in Affinity Photo). Anyway, that's all for now. I'm sure I'll come up with more as I use the program more. Thanks for listening.

Are alias objects planned? All users would like that feature if a search and replace objects tool will not be integrated sooner.

Using the text tool, when I want to change the text box, change the width, is the letters supposed to stretch with it? How can I change the text box without it affecting the letters? and is it possible to deselect the text tool without having to click on another layer? -
Hello, I'm working on a document, and I think that it's too big (around 41 MB). Is there an option to make it smaller? i don't know if it's too big because of the image that it's "integrated in the document", not only an external reference. Thank you

Hi everyone, I'm new on Affinity Designer and I got a problem concerning the path type. ( I've already checked the instructions in the helped menu but that doesn't work for me ). I hope you'll understand me because I work on the french version so that the traduction of the tools may not be exact. Well here's my problem: First I create the curve that will define the curve of my text, then I use the text box tool and I click on the curve I've juste created in order to insert a text that follows the curve. The text insertion zone is in the rectangular zone that defines the curve but the text doesn't follow the curve !! The photo attached shows where my text insertion zone is and how my text appears when I try the make a path type Thank you so much if someone here can help me, I've tried everything and I'd be very grateful ! :) Antonin

When exporting to a PDF, my embedded documents are rasterized, which is problematic for printing. Please rework this system so that, upon export, the objects from the embedded document are "extracted" so that the PDF can contain all vectored assets. -
I noticed you can add an Affinity designer icon to the toolbar in the photo beta. It currently doesn't do anything but will this eventually allow you to open your current file in Designer or perhaps even more awesome, just switch to Designer view! Also to what extent will you be able to edit Designer files in photo or visa versa? Will it be like how you can currently embed documents into other documents and editing an embedded file will open up the correct application? I've already tried to put a Designer file in a Photo file and when I clicked on it it I was surprised to find that it opens! Its cool that it opens up in Photo but a little weird that I don't get Designer Tools. I can edit a gradient but some options are missing. It would be really cool if the tools and windows would just shift to Designer view or Photo view just like persona's do! -
Hi, I'm laying out a website in Affinity Designer. I'm using a lot of black and so would like to lighten up the dark gray canvas around my layout to a lighter gray. I've looked around and can't figure out how to do this. Can I change the canvas color and how? Thanks -
Hi, I just downloaded Affinity Designer (purchased) and I'm having trouble printing on my Epson 4900 Pro. Nowhere in the Document Setup or Print dialog does paper source come up as a choice. I want to print on letter paper on my Epson 4900 and it keeps defaulting to roll paper and won't let me print. There needs to be some way to specify paper cassette or manual feed, but I don't see it. In Photoshop, there is a choice for paper source. With Affinity Designer, even if I change the paper source on the printer, Affinity Designer always puts it back to roll paper. Help! Thanks! David

The new corner tool is awesome. I tried it and played a little with it. Now what I found is, when you select a lot of corners and modify them with the corner tool it is sometimes hard to recognize the changes it makes, because the corner tool requires so much UI (circles and lines, etc). It would be great to simply move with the mouse outside the canvas and the UI would disappear and reappear once the mouse is inside the canvas again. That way, you could easily see even small changes made by the corner tool quickly without deselecting every corner you carefully selected. Sometimes the changes are covered by the UI (or corner-tool-quide-lines, if you will, those red lines, circles and dots). Also, the corner tool quickly becomes slow on my iMac mid 2011, 2.7GHz i5, HD 6770 HD, 20GB Ram.
