If I draw a shape within a shape can I combine the 2 shapes so that the internal shape doesn't fill eg a circle within a circle so the fill looks like a donut -
I'm creating a new pdf export preset and want to ensure all outputs are cmyk with a specific colour profile. If the document isn't already in that specific colour profile will the document be converted or will the new profile simply be assigned. There's an option for that in the document settings but it's not clear in the export settings. (I suggest it should be made clear what's going on) -
Hello !! Since Affinity Designer was released, I bought it on for testing. With average knowledge in Illustrator, however it lacks the keyboard shortcut in Designer tool "Pipette" (CMD i) which would be more convenient to handle when one wants to achieve a desired color, more convenient than taking "pipette" to slide on color. As you can see in the image provided, the blue and brown colors are not blending. Is there anything I can do to blend them? Thanks

Hi, I am testing performance of affinity designer (MAC) vs photoshop CS6 (MAC). I've got a PSD file with multiple folders, layers etc. The file is 750x2000 pixels, so it's quite big. I'm exporting in photoshop png-24 without transparency - exported file has 78kb. After exporting in affinity designer in both png options (24,8) I've got these sizes: 192kb and 119kb respectfully. So at the moment the most important question is how to export png file so at least the size is similar to Photoshop. -
Hi, I was wondering if Designer has anything like the warp feature in Illustrator. I have been using Designer for a project and I can't seem to locate it in any of the menus. I figured I am probably missing it somehow. If it doesn't exist I hope that it is planned in the future. Also, when I created a new document I saw that you could include a margin but no bleed. Will that feature be added at some point? REally enjoying your program so far. If I can figure out how to implement the two features I mention above this will be a nice replacement for Illustrator for me. Thanks! -
Guys, it should be great app for microstock contributors. There're a huge amount of users, who can prefer AD instead of Illustrator. But there're many things that you need to do, if you want to increase the amount of users. The main thing for microstock illustrators is normal export to EPS format, especially EPS10, that all microstocks approve (http://goo.gl/oIYOpA). "Normal": 1) without problems of rasterization (now with gradients) 2) with handy option of expanding, like in AI (text, brushes, lines, etc.) 3) with the possibility to continue editing in Illustrator - hope it's temporary. http://www.istockphoto.com/help/sell-stock/training-manuals/illustration/quality-standards - this manual can help you. You are just amazing! Waiting for more comfortable version for microstock illustrators. You must think about this, seriously. I'd like to fill a circle with a bitmap image. The forums told to use the gradient fill on the shape an select bitmap. Unfortunately I don't have the bitmap option (I have the german version activated, but there is nothing similar) in my Affinity Designer 1.4. How can I do that? Is it as Alternative possible to cut a circle out of a bitmap with the geometry tool? In the attached File I'd like to place the bitmap in the inner white circle to get a button with the image and a black border. Before I draw that in InkScape or before in CorelDraw, but I'd like to switch to Affinity ... marvins.afdesign

Concerning import a logo and C4D. In Adobe Illustrator you have to save a logo in version 8 (a very older version of AI) and still a very weird workflow I think. Therefore, is it possible to use the latest version of Designer to export a logo to C4D? Exporting such a file that could be read by C4D in a direct way to import a logo into C4D. That would be a very huge benefit for all the graphic designers out there using CGI.

Im sure you will have a day of questions like this, so sorry here goes... Bleed: On setting up a new Document there are no bleed settings until after you create a your first artboard, which you have to add by editing Document setup, but then after adding I cant see the bleed guides? am I missing something? Artboards: When working up logos I usually start with about 12 artboards. In the Affinity update I had to create more artboards using the layer pallet (which is a very brilliant way of working artboards) but is there a way of setting these (and bleed) on the new Document panel? Cheeky addition: Also as a nice possible addition, when setting bleed in Adobe products if you input 3mm into the first box, tabbing down duplicates the number so the user doesn't have to type 3mm in each of the 4 boxes -
Blender has a way to render SVG files from freestyle renders. The attached SVG opens OK in Illustrator but both Affinity Designer and Photo claim "The file appears to be corrupted." Its just a cube :) 0001.svg

Hi, I a semi-new user to AD and still learning, so far I'm REALLY happy with the tool, makes life so much easier. But still, I have a Problem, where you might be able to help: I'm using AD to post process plots from matlab and gnuplot for publications. Currently I've got one, where the symbol size of some scatter data is little too small and I would like to increase the size of (100+) point symbols (little squares) by factor two, while keeping each one at its original position - like a swarm operation. Selecting all and resizing does increase their individual size but moves them proportionally - this does not help at all. How do you do an individual transformation operation on a swarm of objects. Rotating all by 45 deg would be something I will need in the future as well. Then again, I don't want the cloud to rotate but each individual one to do the spin. Appreciating your help. Axel -

Hey, so I'm not totally clear on how Affinity handles objects/layers. When I resize a bitmap layer, upscaling it, does it retain the same pixel data and is just enlarged? Within Photoshop, upscaling a bitmap object without first turning it into a Smart Object will inflate the image with more pixels. So are bitmap object in both Designer and Photo acting somewhat like PS Smart Objects..? Please explain! Thanks! JA -
¿Is it possible to create a new document with an artboard, make the work, and then disable the artboard to get back to the simple page mode, not losing the work? The reason to this is that it might be desirable to make a design using the pasteboard feature an artboard offers, but at the end export it with bleeding, wich currently does not work with artboards. Hello. I want to change the colours of this drawing and more specifically I want to make the lifework white and the background blue, light blue, red etc from top to bottom. Which app should I use? Affinity designer or Photo? What would be the optimal procedure? Antikythera mechanism final.pdf -
Perhaps someone can help me here. There's no Affinity manual yet so I'm kind of lost. I'm a design things for motion graphics as needed kind of guy so I'm fairly vector illiterate. Does the red colored control point mean the path is open? Can I "close" it? I'm trying to troubleshoot something. I am converting Designer generated .SVG files into 3D objects. In the 3D program though I am ending up with random lines shooting out from the object in all directions. I'm assuming these are "open paths" if that makes sense? So first step for me, what does the red control point mean? Why is it red vs the blue of the rest? When I first created the shape they were all blue. I then go in and tweak with the bezier handles and one always turns red.

Hi all! I'm dealing with the bleed functionality in this new beta, and don't know how to use it properly. In order to easily explain myself, here are two docs: first of them shows what I'm trying to accomplish: 3mm bleeding and crop marks. The second is the result in AD beta: only crop marks, no matter the bleed I set in the document configuration. I think AD correctly applies a bleed, but as I am unable to enlarge the image to fit that bleed, it remains white, so it's not useful. Any help? By the way, many thanks for your work! Say you want you want to draw a crow bar, how would i shade it on the curved parts using the gradient tool. So far i know how to shade a circle or rectangle using the gradient feature. And designs ive done which needed shading on curves ive had to make a few seperate darker layers and then used a blur tool to make it look like a gradual shadow. Do any of you know how this can be done an easier way? Thanks in Advance -
The exported PNG looks very different to the original. What am I doing wrong? I have chosen PNG with 16 Bit, even a JPG export looks the same as the PNG export. Thank you for any help Ortwin App Icon with Template.afdesign
