1. Hi, I want to snap individual object inside a group, but when I hovering my cursor to the object I wanted, the whole group was selected, and my candidate list is set to 6, so end up everything in my page were purple color indicated selected since all group selected when I point to more things. why this happen but not before? How do i solve this problem? Previously I can just hovering my cursor to whatever i want then a purple color will flash around the object to indicate you can snap to it no matter it is in a group or not. but now after 1.5 update or any reason, I can't do that anymore. even the whole group been selected, I can't snap to any object inside the group, only the boundary of the group. This is a follow up to my previous unsolved question https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/30909-how-to-snap-object-base-on-bottom-object/?p=152215 This is my snapping setting, if anything wrong please correct me The snapping I wanted is like this Please help! I wanted to continue my project as soon as possible!
2. I want to use Affinity Designer to create interface mock-ups for my projects. I often work on projects by using a version control system, like Git, SVN etc. I want to include also my AD files in these repositories, so I can have all my work on a single place. The problem is that these VCS works well when they handle text files, like source files and so on. Even my graphic files are saved as SVG or EPS, when possible. This allows me to maintain the repository as fast and small as possible. They usually don't handle well binary files, and if I modify them often, the repositories can became really big (that's how they works, storing only differences between files, and calculate differences for binary files is cumbersome). Instead if AD can save its files in a text format (xml, for example), they can be stored in VCS far more efficently, improving productivity (at the moment we store binary files in a separate server for this reason). Obviously it's not possible to textify everything (like bitmap images imported in a AD file) but it's possible to handle them by creating fields with blobs, it's not worse in this case, but if I change other things maintaining fixed the bitmaps, the difference will be very small also in this case. Is it possible to have the text format for AD project?
3. Hi, I am currently stuggling to export very simple shape with a shadow to SVG using Affinity Designer (Windows). The design is quite simple: It comprises two rectangles - one in red without a border and one in grey. The grey one works as a shadow. Therefore a Gaussian blur was applied ( I know there is an extra function to add shadows, but that one was not used). When trying to export this to SVG, AD wants to convert the grey rectangle to a bitmap. That leaves the SVG useless for me. I am surprised by this behavior as there is a gaussian blur filter in the SVG definition. Just to give an example of the usage of the "feGaussianBlur" in a SVG file:
The simple feGaussianBlur filter
<desc> Example of usage </desc> <defs> <symbol id="smilie"> <desc>ein lachendes Smilie</desc> <circle id="gesicht" cx="20" cy="20" r="15" fill="yellow" stroke="black" /> <circle id="auge-links" cx="15" cy="15" r="2" fill="black" stroke="black" /> <circle id="auge-rechts" cx="25" cy="15" r="2" fill="black" stroke="black" /> <line id="nase" x1="20" y1="18" x2="20" y2="23" stroke="black" stroke-width="2" /> </symbol> <filter id="f1"> <feGaussianBlur in="SourceGraphic" stdDeviation=".5" /> </filter> <filter id="f2"> <feGaussianBlur in="SourceGraphic" stdDeviation="1" /> </filter> <filter id="f3" x="-20%" y="-20%" width="150%" height="150%"> <feGaussianBlur in="SourceGraphic" stdDeviation="1.5,.5" /> </filter> <filter id="f4" x="-20%" y="-20%" width="150%" height="150%"> <feGaussianBlur in="SourceGraphic" stdDeviation=".5,1.5" /> </filter> <filter id="f5" x="-20%" y="-20%" width="150%" height="150%"> <feGaussianBlur in="SourceGraphic" stdDeviation="5" result="out1" /> <feBlend in="SourceGraphic" in2="out1" mode="darken" /> </filter> <filter id="f6" x="-20%" y="-20%" width="150%" height="150%"> <feGaussianBlur in="SourceAlpha" stdDeviation="2" result="out1" /> <feOffset in="out1" dx="2" dy="-2" result="out2" /> <feMerge> <feMergeNode in="out2" /> <feMergeNode in="SourceGraphic" /> </feMerge> </filter> </defs> <use xlink:href="#smilie" transform="translate(20,10) scale(2.7)" /> <use xlink:href="#smilie" transform="translate(150,10) scale(2.7)" filter="url(#f1)" /> <use xlink:href="#smilie" transform="translate(250,10) scale(2.7)" filter="url(#f2)" /> <use xlink:href="#smilie" transform="translate(150,130) scale(2.7)" filter="url(#f3)" /> <use xlink:href="#smilie" transform="translate(250,130) scale(2.7)" filter="url(#f4)" /> <use xlink:href="#smilie" transform="translate(150,250) scale(2.7)" filter="url(#f5)" /> <use xlink:href="#smilie" transform="translate(250,250) scale(2.7)" filter="url(#f6)" /> <text x="145" y="130">feGaussianBlur</text> <text x="58" y="130">Original</text> <line x1="137" y1="40" x2="137" y2="330" stroke="black" /> Is there a workaround availabe to force AD not to convert objects into a bitmap during export? 4. Hello all, As a marketing and communication employee at a startupcompany it's my responsibilty to create professional products such as newsletters, brochures, leaflets for web and print. I'm very interested in developing my editingskills but would Affinity Photo and Designer be the right program for me and my job, even though I'm a novice and have free programs like GIMP2, Scribus, Publisher and Inscape at my disposal? What does Affinity Photo and/or Design offer that free programs don't? And how would you convince your boss to buy Affinity Photo and/or Designer? Thank you.
5. Hello! I am loving the final version of both softwares, but would like to give feedback. I do a lot of work to be used in Google Adworks. But after saving an image I always have to compress it using tinypng.com The same case when I do work for websites. When a compressed image on tinypng.com can be up to 60% lighter than an image saved by Affinity Designer. I know the image has some losses but it would be great to have some option this way, or even a partnership with tinypng.com to use its API :) thanks a lot for everything .... Look at the attached example I look forward to Affinity Motion o / LOL
6. Since these programs are available at a one off cost and NOT on subscription, does that mean anyone who buys it would also get all future updates? Your prices are great but not if I have to pay that every few months for the latest version.
7. I personally use these all the time when I work in applications which support them.
8. By default the number keys set opacity - which is fine. BUT AD doesn't distinguish between the standard numbers and the numeric keypad, to which I'd really like to assign a bunch of other shortcuts. With 15 keys on the numpad, and at least 3 different modifiers, there are >45 keyboard shortcuts going to waste here! Also, under the current system, if I do set a numeric keypad numeral as a shortcut, it doesn't warn me that there is an existing clash with the opacity function... worst of both worlds! Thanks for your consideration.
9. I will use this thread for all of my future feature requests, unless my requests fit in under an already posted thread, in which case I will post/reply to that thread. If you see any requests that have already been posted somewhere or are already being worked on, let me know and I will update this thread! Requests 2016-11-24 (Affinity 1.5.0.36): A fill/flood tool for the vector part of Affinity. Ex: If clicked on an empty canvas it would create a shape of the canvas with no stroke, only a fill with the currently selected color. Seems to be worked on already, according to the roadmap! A multi-select option when editing text An option in the snapping options to affect vertices as well. Ex: When you create a rectangle and then add a node in the middle on one side and slide it, that it could snap to the middle point between those two nodes. Another nice option would be if you could make vertices (and other objects as well), snap to the straight horizontal/vertical and all of the diagonal snaps without being relative to the starting-point. Also a mirror mode would be nice. It would be a mode that lets you affect two sides of an item at the same time. An option to alter the diagonal snapping angels. This option could be visible at all times for easy access or it could be implemented in the appropriate context sensitive menus. One could use presets or input directly with desired value. If dragging an object with nodes/handles, that there would be a node/handle snap option, so that when the nodes of the dragged object come near another object's node(s), that it snaps to it. Ability to mark/manipulate two or more node/vertex handles at the same time and maybe a way to copy a node's parameters and paste them? Option to resize UI elements and the layer thumbnails. Ex: Small, medium and large. The option could reside in the "Customize Toolbar" window. When dragging layers, it would be nice if you could hold a hotkey to have layers not wanting to be group, only arranged. Also, vice versa. When arranging layers, when dragged atop one another, that the layer beneath the "grabbed" layer gets highlighted and if released, grouped. A little more margin would be nice, so that you have more space where it would group it and you would have to go more to the "top" of the layer icon to have the grabbed layer be placed above it. I don't know if it is a bug or anything, but at the moment you can't resize panels vertically, only horizontally. If it's not a bug, I would find it nice to be able to do that, at least on the layers panel. An option to be able to merge vertices when on top of each other, but also expanding this feature to be able to merge vertices; to center, to horizontal/vertical center, to left/right diagonal center, to first/last selected etc. Expanded functionality for the "Arrange" tool so that it would work on vertices. That would make arranging vertices easier. Make so that the rotation center affects the flip horizontal and vertical actions, since right now it only affects rotation origin. When you choose "None" in the color-wheel panel, it would be nice if you could press the "None" button again to get the "deleted" color back. (Right now you can use "Ctrl+Z" to get "around" this, but if you only realize you want that previous color back later, after a lot of actions, then the previously mentioned method would be superb!) Having a "swap" button whenever there is a "fill/stroke" option, in the context sensitive menus so that you don't have to look for the color-wheel. Or have "X" key actually flip the colors, not just flip between what color is selected. Can be done with "Shift+X". This will flip the colors around. Slide vertices along path. Use "ESC" to deselect text bar/editing (Can be done by "Ctrl+D") A hotkey for deleting layers. Ex: Like when a layer is selected, pressing "DEL" would delete it. Perspective scaling and warping. Seems to be worked on already, according to the roadmap! When in any menu with many check-boxes, that you could hold "Ctrl" when clicking a box to uncheck everything but the checkbox you clicked. Could be nice for the layer panel and it's visibility toggles. A "focus" hotkey, maybe on "F". Ex: If something is selected and you press "F", the screen zooms in on it and fits it to the screen's width and height. If nothing selected and the user press's "F", it fits the canvas to the window screen. Can be done, somewhat, by double-clicking on the thumbnails of layers. Although I would still think a button would speed up workflow. A button that says "Assign" and "Cancel" when in the gradient menu, since right now if you go to the gradient menu you have to click/move the "midpoint" slider in order to assign the gradient to the selected object. If you just go to the gradient menu and click outside of menu it doesn't get assigned. Also a value to set the "hardness/softness" of the blend between both colors would be nice. An option/hotkey in the "Eyedropper" to be able to select single color or whole gradient. Automatically deselect the previously selected node in the pressure customization window so that the automatically selected node doesn't fly all over the place when you go in and try to select another node without thinking. More tools to customize pressure. Ex: Ability to enter x and y values for nodes, enabling/disabling node snapping. An option in the settings menu to be able to set whether all of the layers/slices should automatically be added/checked for export or not. This could also be remedied by the "hold a button to deselect all other check-boxes" feature suggested above. Object based gradient (linear). This is a big one, but the premise would be that you could have a linear gradient "follow" the "flow/direction" of an object by manually placing points on the object to assist Affinity in knowing the "flow/direction" that the gradient should go. It would be nice if Affinity could do some own calculations and perhaps automate the procedure, but that is only if it is possible. Some kind of command to open a "transform" box/controls around the currently selected objects/vertices at any time. This way you could manipulate a group of selected vertices in various ways. Convert "Stroke" to object/solid/fill. The program could do a trace around it or something. The use for this is that I sometimes find myself doing a shape with the "Pen Tool" using only stroke to get the shape I want since it is way easier, but then I realize that I have to go to long way around since you can't make your stroke into an object. Apparently, this is already possible by going "Layer>Expand Stroke" in the top menus with the stroke selected. Thanks to member "JotHa" for telling me! The "Outline" effect doesn't currently have an option to choose whether the edges of the outline should be hard/chiseled or rounded. Would be nice with a way to change this. Some controls/attribute windows that are a digits/values could have that if you hover your mouse over the attribute's name, the cursor would turn into two arrows pointing away from each other, and if you then proceed to hold down and drag with your mouse, you could adjust the value by dragging left or right instead of having to have a slider or manually enter different values for testing. Ex: "Dash width=1", if you placed your mouse over "Dash width" and dragged, the mouse cursor would turn into two arrows pointing away from each other and you could adjust the value by dragging left or right. The gradient swatches could be displayed on the swatches page as well as on the gradients page, since having to switch to swatches just to have access to the gradients feels slow. Snap to curve option. A checkbox that enables "Curve to Curve" snapping and then curves closest to each other would snap together. An option to cut with the following way. Select a "Cut Tool" and press node one and node 2. The program will now create a cut between these two nodes. An option would decide if, when the cut is done, if it makes a gap or not between the two now separate pieces. This or a hotkey where you just have to click somewhere on a path and Affinity would cut there. A "Studio" panel where you can save symbols for later use, so you don't have to have an Affinity file where you keep a bunch of symbols. This could be separate "Studio" or be implemented into the already existing "Studio>Symbols" panel. This way you would have icons/symbols that you want to use across multiple projects, close and convenient. It could be as simple as a folder where, when clicking a "Save Selected" button, Affinity would save the selected graphic and just read them from there, showing a small preview of the items in that folder. This would make for "easy" implementation of said function and would yield users easy access and editing of saved icons/symbols. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you like any of the suggestions made, you can use the poll at the top to vote for the feature that sounds the most interesting/fun/useful! Just click on the numbers that corresponds to the features that you want to vote for!
10. Hi, Can anybody advise me, please? I'm currently trying to create new brushes and every time I get so far, AD crashes. This has also happened several times when working with large files. Restarting AD doesn't seem to help as, after recovering files, it crashes just as easily. Things usually improve if I restart the PC but not in this case, it seems. I'm using: Ad V. 1.5.1. Mac OS X 10.11.6 (El Capitan). Thank you in advance. Kevin
11. Is there a way for AF to remember the UI settings between sessions. If I uncheck 'Show Left Studio' from the View / Studio menu, to hide the left panel, this setting isn't remembered, which means if I don't have any need to use the Left Studio panel for the current project/s, I have to manually turn it off each time I launch Designer. Obviously not a major issue, but would be great if this was a 'sticky' setting perhaps?
12. Dear AD developers team As a new customer using Affinity Designer, after using Illustrator from version 7, I miss some tools. I understand Affinity Designer is a young application and it can't have all the tools a software like Illustrator has. But I hope my request to be fullfilled. My needs: What I mostly do (did) with Illustrator, is create simple graphics, with a maximum of 3 colors. Most of the work consist of clean and create closed paths that I'll work later on a CNC. Here are some of my most used tools. The "Magic Wand" is very useful and it one of my most used tools. I've not been able to find it in AD, if it's there. I can live without the "Shape Builder Tools". Before Adobe introducing this tool, I used a combination of Divide, Magic Wand, Unite. Mostly to create a closed shape for each color. Other commands I use very often, quite for every work, are Average = to overlap two points Join = to join the two points into one The Cleanup tool Since I have to export my paths to CNC, I must be sure there are not hidden paths, Stray points or other things that are not closed paths. I've seen this feature requested already It's extremely useful to have a wide range of selection tools. Actually, seems like AD, when using the distribute command, use the Top-Left anchor as reference. Being able to use a Key Object would be way better Another things I'm missing: - Offset command - "mm" as unit for the Stroke panel, I just work in mm - Being able to set a Layer as template (for tracing works) Last thing, for now. I found no way in AD to quickly know if there is a hidden object somewhere. What I do with Illustrator is raw vector manipulation, I need these kind of tools for my daily work. I wish you could add such tools as soon as possible. Thank you.
13. Read that you were working on more/ changeable shortcuts. Nice! :) I think shortcuts and the ability to change them have a big influence on your overall software experience. The less you have to navigate to menus and panels, the faster you can draw. What I think would benefit the Affinity Designer experience: Adjustable shortcuts Save your under your own name and be able to change them all. Shortcuts for everything I understand that the developers might not want to add a shortcut to every program "action", but as a user if there is something that I do a lot in my illustrating process, I want to reach it superfast through a shortcut. If it's under a dropdown, menu or even submenu that takes too much time. I want to shorten that time. The "everything" part is about the clickable icons and sliders that don't have a (default) shortcut. (New layer, lock layer, increase line width) Giving the user the freedom to edit those. Changing the location of your shortcut file. So you can put it in your Dropbox, or on a part of your Mac you wont format when doing a clean install. It could be a window during install like the one asking where it can install. "Where would you like us to save your keyboard shortcuts (for easy backup if you do a clean install later)" Default shortcut sets Based on different other (vector) software. This would make it easier for a person coming from Adobe illustrator, Coreldraw, Sketch or Manga Studio to jump in and use the shortcuts he's been using for years. I imagine a window after first start asking the user: If you tell us which software you used most before finding Affinity Designer, we will make sure (most of) the shortcuts are in the same place. Kind of like the browsers do after install, trying to get your bookmarks and stuff from other browsers to increase the chance you never go back to your old browser. ;) Live editing Being able to edit the shortcut of an icon by (cmd?) clicking on it and having it open a small window with the current (if there is one) short cut and the option to add your new one. Now there are just too many steps to edit a shortcut. 1. Remember what the function is called (i.e lock layer / increase line width) 2. Find the shortcuts menu. 3 Search for the function. 4. Edit it. 5. Save it. 6. Close the shortcuts menu. Being able to do that on the fly could reduce the actions by half. I think shortcuts with the options stated above would translate to (super) speed & focus. Compare it to wanting the interface to be as calm and subtle as possible so you "see" it less and focus on your drawing. Being able to add a shortcut to everything allows you use the interface less and focus even more.
14. Feature request: The ability to expand or drag the stroke pressure profile window/panel wider for more precise manipulation of the profile curve.
15. The latest update to Affinity Designer was mainly focused on UI design, and it did a fantastic job; the addition of constraints, symbols, and assets have made Affinity even easier to use. I'm curious about the next update; what will it focus on? Can we expect an update for illustration or something else?
16. Hi all I have an arrow and want to bend/wrap the group after construction to a path. Example attached. The arrow in it should follow/bend like the curve. I am currently stuck and really appreciate any help and hints :) Many thanks in advance, Roland Pfeil.afdesign
17. Auto Trace an image in Designer To be Saved To affinity Designer Format or Exported.
18. I have acquired quite a few really solid photoshop brush tool presets over the years but I haven't found a way to use them either Affinity product. Is there something I am missing or is this not currently supported? Any plans to add compatibility? Thanks!
19. Hello, I have an animated GIF that I would like to recreate with an SVG instead. It seems like the easiest academic case for practicing snapping to me: everything is black and white and there are only horizontal and vertical lines. The snap points are easy to find automatically. However after quite some unsuccessful trial and error and reading in the forums it seems like there could be some slightly tricky behaviour about this... So please indulge if I ask now before digging further! ;) Thank you in advance for all hints, gergely FWIW here is the object:
20. Hello everyone! When I change the height or width of a path In the transform tab, Designer will round the values to .x. I am using millimeters and when I enter something like 5.695mm, I will end up with 5.7mm. Is there a way of doing things more accurately? Best wishes, Shu
21. Hi Affinity! I'd like to give Affinity Photo Windows as a gift. Can I use the e-mail address of the one I'm sending the gift to when I'm on the purchasing page (the part where they ask me about the e-mail address) so the details could be sent to him and be linked directly to his account (he has an existing Designer account)? I'll use my card for it. Thanks! Hope you can help me with this. :)
22. I hope you'll reconsider adding a mirror painting feature on affinity photo :D
23. What's the main difference in these two programs? They're both made by Serif, so I'm stuck wondering why I would use one vs the other. Should they not be combined?
24. What feature am I missing in Designer that would permit me to align an item to the last-selected object? For example: In the case of these two objects: |-----------| | | <-- box on left | | line on right --> || |-----------| || I want this: |-----------| | || | (i.e., line gets centered into box, and box doesn't move) | || | |-----------| Not this: |-----------| | || | (i.e., line and box both to move to the center of the space that had separated them) | || | |-----------| In other software, this is usually accomplished by activating a 'align to last selected item' option setting. How can this (i.e., 'align to last selected item') be done in Designer? ~
25. Hello, I was trying to create a button using symbols and each buttons has different labels, so what I did is I disabled sync for the text and re-enabled it again once I'm done updating the text content I then tried to change the font family of the text but the change is not being sync to the buttons I updated. Is there a way for me to re-sync the text layer again so that if I need to update the font family I won't have to do it for every buttons..kinda defeat the purpose of using symbols if I can't do that. Thanks!
