Hello, I'm new here and just doing some first steps with Affinity Designer. I've seen a design where two layers were linked to each other so that both show the same content. Let's say layer A is linked to layer B. Layer A shows all elements from layer B. Editing layer B affects layer A as well, as it always shows what layer B currently shows. The example that I've seen uses this "layer linking" to scale a design down to different sizes. The layers list shows an orange colored line on the left side of linked layers. I didn't find out how I can create such a linking between layers. Does anybody know how this works and could please explain? Thanks, skap -
Hi, I'm a beginner to graphic design etc so please bear with me whilst I wrangle the terminology. I'm starting with an existing vector shape: https://www.123rf.com/photo_58944851_male-human-body-with-head-turned-to-side-flat-icon-for-apps-and-websites.html I want to be able to cut it up to have different limbs and body sections on each layer. I.e. Face, Head, Neck, Upper Arms, Lower Arms, Chest, Abdomen, Pelvis, Some quite small and internal (E.g. Spine will be a strip in the middle) I don't know how to slice it with seamless boundaries.... Any pointers appreciated. Is it possible to have a global layer or layer group that could be applied to all artboards in one file? use case: I'm doing a website design and have a header, navigation, and/or footer in use on all artboards, but make a revision to content/copy/dimenions/whatever I'd like it to update across all artboards in the same way that changing a global color does. Is this currently possible? If not where do I make a feature request? -
Hello, I'm currently preparing hand drawn icons for the web (svg) export. I want to make a single element out of multiple layers to save some kbs, but after choosing "Add" option some of the parts are substracted. Problem happens when I try to close / simplify a single curve (one object in the layer menu), that has some overlapped space. I tried expanding the curve, then tried every single action in the Action centre based under Node Tool and still can't figure it out. I'm used to just selecting "Add" (Illustrators path finder) to make it a single shape without overlapping paths, but in Designer there is only "Divide" that can be chosen. Any tips and ideas will be appreciated

After purchasing designer for win 10, the file downloads, then appends a failed note with yellow tag. File will not execute. Win 10 is 64 bit, Asus AMD dual core A-9 9410 is 64 bit. Affinity photo works well on this computer. It doesnt even get to the page to enter Key. I have only ever had one email and Im using that one spelled correctly. Please help. I have been fighting with this for a long time and read the faqs. Robin Pentney -
Hi, I was looking at the "Affinity designer 1.5 overview" on Vimeo a minute ago. But there id one feature I completely don't know how to use, and I really want to know :). At 1 minute 9 seconds of the video, you can see someone drawing on a box template and it appears directly on the mockup. I would appreciate sombody explain me how to do this. Thank you in advance. -
Humble request to Typographers, Can any of you show off your font designs? Give a story how you used AD to create your font(s)? How you converted AD to font (rtf,otf)? Im just wondering how it can be done... I'm not a typographer, but I want to learn Dennis -
Hi There, Is there a way to remove a border or stroke of a shape in a selected location? For example, I want to remove the stroke on top or top border of a rectangle. If not removed change the color. Thanks! -
Hello, I wiil like an auto recovery of works that have not been saved. I was working on a design and suddenly the software crashed i was hoping to continue from the last cached document please can we have this feature enabled for unsaved projects thanks

A feature to align individual nodes would be really helpful, Inkscape has supported this for a number of years. See "3. Align Those Nodes!" at this site for an example of how it should work: https://design.tutsplus.com/tutorials/helpful-align-and-distribute-tips-when-using-inkscape--vector-21032 -
In Designer: I have shapes that are perfectly aligned on their edges but they are still showing the background behind especially when turned to raster elements. I have the points snapping to each other and have zoomed in very far to confirm that they are aligned. See attached sample. I know I can put one shape behind the other shape and then overlap them but I need to avoid doing this as I will have hundreds of these shapes and will need to delete different ones and have the space be accurate. I will be bringing the files into Photo and will be rasterizing the project at the end as well. It seems that AD is not seeing the edges as being perfectly next to each other despite the points being aligned. Even if I put a small stroke on the shapes the background is still showing through slightly. I'd rather not have to put on a stroke regardless. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Cheers! gaps.zip edit: I've even tried overlapping the shapes slightly and the background still shows through. Seems like it might be more of a bug. -
HI, I am very new to the vector drawing idea, so exploring my way slowly. I have a contributor account with Shutterstock and have tried creating some simple vector drawings for submission. One problem I have is that if I use the Gradient Tool to create shading, then the EPS files submmitted to Shutterstck are always rejected, probably due to some rasterising issue. (I do select rasterise nothing in the export dialogue). I know Shutterstock can be very picky about these things, so is there some set procedure to follow on AD that can make this work? Thanks. -
Can we have Macros in Affinity Designer like you have in Photo, please? I’ve been working on an illustration which, had Macros been around, would have saved me a _lot_ of time. As it is, I’ve had to repeat the same three or four transformations many, many, many times and different objects.

Hi, I am wondering if there is a way to export an embedded file as a native Affinity file ? I know this can seem like an unusual need but it can occur more times then I'd thought. For now I create a new document with the same dimensions and copy paste the elements from the embedded document in it. It works but that’s not really pretty. The only other way I found is to export the file as a PSD then convert it back to AD but this seems a good way to loose some features and creates inaccuracies. Did I miss something or should it be added to the features requests ?

Hi. I have the Donut shape (and any other) with Image and Rectangle. If Image and Rectangle clip under Donut, then clipped outside and inside Donut. It is perfect, so I imagined it. If I have Vector brush or Text and clip it, Vector brush and Text clipped only outside. It is OK? Thanks Pavel

How do you copy objects, both text and image, without losing the original size? I tried to copy and paste content into a new document, but for some reason, it shrinks the original size, which will make my completion time longer. I want to simply copy and paste content, and it keep its attributes from size to format ,in-tact, in the new document. -
I have built a document in designer with an image as the background for a retractable banner. On screen it looks fine at all zoom levels and in other applications the image is fine. When I export to any file format the resulting image has faint but noticeable gridlines on it, intersecting at regular intervals both vertical and horizontal. what can I do to eliminate this? -
Hi, blend modes can't be seen completelly (without scrolling) as in MacOS version even on the highest possible resolution. Sliding with mouse is not very good because of that. You can see the resolution of my screen in the signature.

Hi all, I'm working on a Coordinate Image. In Designer I created several artboards to match my stationery elements, let's say "business cards", "letterhead", logos, mail signature and so on. The resulting file (let's call it ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN) is pretty technical and needs a bit of compositing to be presented to the Client. I decided to create a new file (let's call it PRESENTATION.AFDESIGN), all made of A4 artboards that shares the same backgrounds and my company details, in which I composed the visual presentation for the client, catching elements from ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN. I embedded ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN in PRESENTATION.AFDESIGN. While working on PRESENTATION, I needed to modify and create some new or ad-hoc artboards or elements in ARTBOARD original file. Double click, work on it and then close. Everything's worked fine. BUT the original ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN is not anymore updated, and it is stucked on a version before I embedded it in PRESENTATION.AFDESIGN It had been forked in twos: one stands still as before embedding, and the other is embedded and "ENCLOSED" in PRESENTATION file. So, what if I need to re-use the modified ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN (the updated embedded one) in another file? I mean that if I need to make another PRESENTATION2-SPECIAL-FOR-CEO and want to use the embedded updated one, how can I do that? The original ARTBOARDS.AFDESIGN is no more updated (shame on that!!!) and a lot of suff added during PRESENTATION compositing are lacking and it seems there's no way to save the updated ARBOARDS.AFDESIGN out of embedded context. Am I wrong? Is there something I do not understand about it? Is there something missing on embedded management? Thank you so much -
Hello internet! I've been working on a line art design to print, and the picture shows, there's a lot of overlapping layers. I've used black lines and fills for most of the separation between elements, and now that I've finished the project I realize I want it printed with no black because it will be on black fabric. I really don't want to go through the whole document adding masks to every layer, is there a simple way to apply a blanket effect to the whole documetn that will make all black transparent? TIA, KJTP

Hello, one thing has been on my mind lately. Designer would be the supreme vector program in the marketplace if it would take on a few features from the font creation softwares: 1. If user wishes, multiple handles from multiple nodes are selectable and movable without moving the unselected node(s): 2. Handles could be moved by the user with arrow keys, just as selected nodes are movable now: 3. There is an option that user can move a node (which has handles) but the position of the handles does not move: These things would make the vectoring terrifyingly more usable. Cheers, Markku

(Designer) I'm currently working on a template that needs a bunch of guidelines for ppl to use in every program so I'd like to have these guides visible. other quick solutions are also welcome have a good weekend -

Hi to the dev. team. Is there any solution for the problem I've encountered? I can't export the invites I laid out to pdf. You can see the dialog box appeared when I've tried exporting it. (refer to screen shot please) For a brief background on the work, it's only a one page lay out, the design is done separately and I laid them again (4 copies) to fit them in an A4 size paper for exporting. The saying "Estimated File Size:" , just gave me " Calculating for almost 7 minutes to 10 minutes. Your quick response will be appreciated. I'm using Affinity Designer for Windows (Win10)

Hi, I have this small setup: I want to add a little perspective to the top two rows. Since there is no perspective tool I tried merging all the rectangles, but this obviously messes up my borders. I want to achieve this: Is there any trick to achieve this with little effort in Designer?! I think the perspective tool for Designer is in the making since 2016. Or did I miss something?!
