  1. Hi, I'm new on this forum. Who can help me. My problem is that when I open a raw file (CR2) the develop persona shows a very dark image. This happens since a week and I'm rather sure that I didn't change any settings. Browsing through the topics on this forum I found different solutions but non of these work fine for me. I've tried to alter the 32-bits preview settings from "Unmanaged" to "ICC Display Transform". That wordked but ...only once. Is it a bug or am I doing something wrong? I appreciate your help.
  2. I need help! Everytime I do a batch job from RAW to JPG, Affinity saves all the new JPG's much darker than before! Can anyone help me to avoid that? Greetings
  3. When the Designer for iPad was released back in July, I read the post on Affinity Spotlight showing the works of artists who had used the beta version (https://affinityspotlight.com/article/affinity-designer-for-ipad-a-special-beta/), and I was immediately captivated by the work by Ilya Shapko titled "Mystic Beast": I am trying to produce these same effects in my own works, and not sure I nailed it yet. I did find and download the color palette for this work from Dribbble: (https://dribbble.com/shots/4821906-Mystic-Beast), but it appears that he used some effects that I am as yet unaware of. Does anyone here know what tricks (bright/contrast adjustment, etc.) he used to produce these stunningly eye-popping effects, which layers/elements he applied them to, and how he applied them? I checked his website a while back, and someone else had already asked him to produce a tutorial showing how he did this, but I don't think is he inclined to do so. I did do two projects from the Affinity Designer Workbook (which is itself an exquisite work of art and beauty) titled "The Panther" and "Reflected Skyline", both of which are colorful works with dark backgrounds. However, neither of them really discuss how to make the colors pop like Ilya is able to do. If anyone knows of other places where I can go to learn this, please do share.
  4. First, I apologize that I have different aspects of this problem in different topics. Summary of Problem: On my MacBook Pro 17", to which a Thunderbolt Display is connected, I have developed a RAW file in AP Develop and specified the ROMM RGB for output. In the Photo persona I changed the Document | Colour Format to RGB (16 bit), setup my adjustment layers and live filter layer, then export the document as a JPG, 100% quality, using the ROMM RGB profile, which should be embedded. When I compare the exported file and the document in AP, both at full size, both either on the laptop display or on the Thunderbolt display, the JPG is much darker than the document as displayed in AP. Both displays have been calibrated using basICColor display and an X-rite i1 Display Pro. I have several color profiles for each display, D50 L* 160 cd/m², D50 2.2 160 cd/m², D65 L* 110 cd/m², etc. Regardless of which one I use, the JPG is alway much darker than the AP document when both are viewed at full size on the same display. Only when I set the color profile to the factory default does the document in AP become as dark as the JPG, which does not seem to change much. (☚ Thanks to @owenr for the suggestion after doing some valuable tests!) Clearly, the take-home message cannot be, so just use the factory profiles, especially given the ages of the laptop (late 2011) and the Thunderbolt display (bought second-hand several years ago). Testing my Understanding: For some time I have been assuming the the export must be the culprit, but @owenr graciously tested my .afphoto on his (her?) Mac and verified that the JPG as displayed by Preview is identical to the document as displayed by AP. My understanding is, on Mac's applications don't need to worry about monitor profiles, that is the job of the OS. So AP only needs to worry about the working color space, described by the ROMM RGB profile, when rendering the document, and the target space when exporting, which, in this case, is the same. And, since Preview is color profile-aware, I should be seeing identical images, regardless of the monitor profile. But perhaps AP is doing something else when displaying the document? Or, not for the first time, my understanding is faulty. Can anybody explain what I am seeing and perhaps suggest how I can profile the monitor(s) so that the JPG and the document in AP are identical? For anybody interested, the .afphoto, a .jpg and a .tiff are here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/l5oaidwrbn4xiot/AADQ32NVF14neGoV_fqEYV8Xa?dl=0 . Thanks
  5. Is it possible to toggle the contrast of the transparent checkered background? Currently I place a dark rectangle object behind the white icons. I expected a document setup property to set this background light or dark. This property should stored in the project file. Also a button in the toolbar to toggle it fast would be nice.
  6. Dark artboards seems to have unexpected white borders. Please see attached files. Affinity Designer v1.6.1. dark-ab.afdesign
  7. This bug has been posted before on both mac and windows. Most postings hsve been from users starting from raw files. I have recently processed a batch of .awr (Sony raw) files and using a macro to resize them. All came out too dark. I then simplified things and processed a batch of .jpg files, simply saving/exporting them (via batch) into a subfolder. All came out too dark. This suggests that the problem is inherent in the batch processing rather than raw processing. It would seem that other users use batch processing with no problems. The video explaining bach jobs for example. There seems to have been little response from the Affinity developers. What is going on? John
  8. In your Light UI video you demonstrate how to adjust the UI appearance. Under windows it does not seem to work correctly. Under windows I can switch between light and dark UI style and the UI gamma slider seems to work. The background and artboard background grey level sliders do not show any effects under windows. The tool icons are not adjusted according style. With light UI I see the same icons with black background as used with the dark UI style. E.g., the cutting tool is just a dark square with light UI style. The front UI size adjustment (default / large) is missing alltogether under windows. Can I somehow activate the backgroud grey level sliders and adjust the tool icons for the light UI style?
  9. Hey everyone! This happens in both Photo and Designer. Full screen mode needs to be used for this issue to show up. I get a dark border on top of the document view when doing the following: - Opening at least two documents so that tabs show up - Closing those documents - There should be a dark border where the tabs have been Creating a new document and closing it does not get rid of this issue. However, opening just one file and closing it does. So does quitting and restarting the application. Software used: Mac OS 10.11.3 Affinity Photo 1.6.6 Affinity Designer 1.6.0 Best wishes, Shu
  10. Font edge smoothing seems to be totally absent when using, prefs > Artboard Background Grey Level - set to low. This becomes a visual annoyance in a workflow with multiple artboards in a complex layout. It appears as if there is no anti-aliasing therefore font is poorly rendered (pixelated) - making indistinct and hard to read artboard titles. Chalk & cheese
  11. Apologies if this has been reported before but I’ve been evaluating the trial version of Affinity Photo for Windows (v1.6.0.89) for a few days now and so far, I have encountered three times what seem to be a bug where the image I’m working on suddenly turns dark gray. The UI is normal, only the image is affected. First instance is with a NEF file from a Nikon D500. The Image opened correctly (Colored) and was able to edit in Develop Persona. While working in basic tab, the photo suddenly turned dark gray. At first, I thought I may have done something wrong while editing. Moving the history slider back to the left did not do anything other than vary the exposure lightly. At this point, it didn’t matter what Persona I’m in or what slider I adjusted, the image stayed dark gray. I canceled the edit and closed AP, then reopened the same file only to come up colored for about two seconds then went back to dark gray. Third time seem to be a charm as it opened the same file correctly and was able to edit in Develop Person and eventually exported the image. Second instance was a day or two later with a different NEF file/photo but from the same Nikon D500. Third occurrence was with an old PEF file from a Pentax K5. This one I was already done editing and was simply looking around the image for a final check before exporting when it simply turned dark gray. Closing/Reopening AP did the trick but unfortunately, in doing so I’ve also lost all the editing I made. Has this issue been reported before or am I the only one? My system: Toshiba Laptop (Windows 10 Home / 64bit) CPU: Intel Core i7-4720HQ @ 2.60GHz Mem: 16GB Storage: Samsung SSD 500GB Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4600

  13. Hi Anyone gets this? I've been experiencing a black out on my artwork sometimes lately. Please se attachment. The way to solve it is closing and reopening the file. Maybe somehow related to the fat I'm using a two monitors? (one a macbook pro the other a cintiq screen, if this helps). Thanks.
  14. I have found that when I create a set of .jpg files using New Batch Job, the resulting files are unusably dark. This only seems to occur if my .afphoto files were created using New HDR Merge (I have not tested Stack or Focus). I got the same (dark) result when I unchecked the Tone Map box. These same .afphoto files will process just fine one at a time using File -> Export. I can also do a New Batch Job export with no problem on sets of .afphotos created from single RAW format files. The export settings (New Batch Job and File -> Export) are the same as near as I can tell. Thanks, B.
  15. As a photographer whose images are in museums, color judgement is critical to me. I have a 10-bit path showing 100% of ARGB. In order to do this accurately, one needs an environment that is LIGHT (such as the light grays of this very forum). I realize you're aesthetically fond of the dark environment, but any photographer worth his salt will tell you it screws up color and luminosity perception. If you doubt me, please see the attached image from: http://web.mit.edu/persci/people/adelson/checkershadow_illusion.html. Look at the light surrounds of the A square and the dark surrounds of the B square. Humans are not wired to see A and B as the same tone, as this example makes stunningly clear. So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE allow us to select a light UI with black text. (Yes: as a retired programmer, I -do- realize that this will take some effort on your part, as all your icons are white; the font is white... I get it.) But this is a fundamental and nearly crippling mistake in your UI. Please fix it.
  16. I'm having a recent issue with my cloning brush tool, in that while I can set a source, the closer I bring the brush to a light source or brighter area, the darker it becomes when used, regardless of the selection. Conversely, the further I take my selection away from light/bright areas, the brighter it becomes. I'm kind of at a loss here .... thanks for input!
  17. I had the exact same problem during beta. Devs said they found the problem but it's still there even after update. DNG are dark when opening with Affinity Photo 1.3.5 https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/29346596/DNG%20pb.jpg original file : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/29346596/DSC_0772.dng This is a critical problem. I cannot use AF Photo like that.
  18. When I exported the image from Affinity to my desktop it looked fine. (I was using the Mac software Preview to view it) however when I tried to send the image via iMessage, it became very dark. Is there a setting that can fix this problem?
  19. Hey guys! First time posting here. :) This is a poster i made with affinity designer, with some post work in photoshop. It's for a play, called "O Tornos" which means lathe in greek. It's a great dark comedy. You can see the final version in my behance project
