  1. Hi, I'm currently testing out the Windows Beta coming from Inkscape (and Illustrator at the office) and what I'm missing a bit are the handlers for sharp control points. Inkscape does it brilliantly and it really makes it much easier to control a curve. Would love to see this kind of feature in AD. That's how it looks like in action: http://i.imgur.com/5iIRXG8.png
  2. I tried applying a mask to a grouped curve and received Code: 0xC0000005 :(
  3. Hi, I wanted to save a Curve preset, so a clicked on "add preset" in the curve adjustment layer, but after that I lost track of it. I cannot find a way to recall that preset nor a way to manage/delete them... where should I look for it? The help tool is not helping...
  4. Hey guys, I need to connect two elements I busted open on the node level. In Illustrator I would just use the pen tool click on the open nodes and make a line to the other node connecting it instantly. For some reason its not that simple here in AD. I must be doing something wrong. Can I get a quick rundown on how the action panel works in conjunction with the snap panel. I tried looking at the Affinity videos and found nada. I also did a search and came across a thread that seemed to address this issue but it was way too gnarly in jargon and confusing. Below is a screen shot of the two elements I wanna connect. Thanks.
  5. Hi, First of all I'd like to thank you for the really great software. I am currently using Affinity Designer for UI projects / icons and it improved my skills undoubtly. I could write an essay about how you made my designer life better (and I am sure that many others said it before) so I will go straight to the point: 1. Expand stroke I am making some vector graphic and I am using pressure panel to make the stroke look more handwritten and after that I was using expand stroke command and it goes pretty well with simple curves, but with more complex ones it gives me wrongly converted objects is there any solution for this? Maybe, am I doing something wrong? 2. Flatten transparency Are there some tools for print preparation as flatten transparency tool which would make me sure that in print everything would look good? Every advice would be helpful :)
  6. It's been a while since I've seriously used a product like Affinity Designer. The last one was Corel Draw about 20 years ago. One of the things it could do (if I remember correctly) was to convert an image (JPG etc.) to curves. That allowed someone like myself, with negligible artistic ability, to have a sound base from which to start producing a finished item. AD does have the ability to convert to curves but it does not appear to work on images. Is that something that will be added if it isn't already possible to do so? Or if images can be converted to curves already, how is it done?
  7. Hello, everyone!!! I has encountered with small problem while working with curves. I need to convert a knot of curve partly with 'sharp' and 'smart'. I meant from one side of the knot I could create round shape and from another side it should be sharp. Photoshop has this option. I would be happy if somebody can explain can I do it or not. If yes, then how to do it? Thank you very much in advance :) PS: Affinity is very cool app. Wish big luck for the Affinity-team to make this tool as one the best :)
  8. I switched to Affinity Designer from CorelDraw and I'm loving so much about it! There is one thing I can't seem to do though that I found very useful on CorelDraw. When working with curves the three modes are Sharp, Smooth, and Smart. I can't seem to find a way to have a curve exiting one side of a node, and a straight line exiting the other. I find I have to make really tiny curves to try to approximate a straight line. Am I missing something? Is it possible to do this with Designer? Thanks!
  9. Version 1.5.0.6, I was exporting some pretty text to SVG, checked the thing telling it to export the text as curves, but no, it exported it as text. I had to go back, turn the text into curves inside the editing window and then export it to SVG.
  10. I am relatively new to AD and I am happy that it can open Adobe Illustrator files. However, I'm having difficulty selecting all the curves of an object (there are so many!), so I can copy and paste onto a new document. Does anybody have any suggestions/tips that will help me select all the curves of an object so that when I copy and paste into a new document, I've captured ALL related curves? I've tried holding the shift key and selecting what I think are all the curves, but when I paste them into a new document, somehow I've left out the tiniest curve! It's so frustrating because it takes so much time to do this! There has to be an easier way! Help! Thank you, AD community!
  11. Is it possible to stroke only selected curves within an object? (Without breaking the object) Thanks
  12. Hi @ all, As the most users here, i am highly contamined by PS, using it since V4.0 and this app being part of my morning prayer ("may PS not crash, amen")... But, first of all: Chapeau for your Affinity Photo, its the first app making me hanging in front of my screen just trying and playing around in things of image editing, which is not less than my dayly and nightly job. Things like the live filters or the mouse-over preview for the different layering methods caused me thinking about "imaging on the next level"... My concrete question is: How can I use a single or combined curve layer as a vector mask for a pixel layer or a group? maybe I´m not the first one to ask this, but the first glance to the forums search did not help me... best regards, Detlev
  13. I brought an eps file into Designer which has several shapes inside one layer (which is being described as 'Curves' in the layer menu). There was one shape that I wanted to copy and paste into the same set of curves, so that the file retains one set of curves, but I can't find a way to do that. Every time I go to paste the shape, it creates a new separate layer called 'Curve'). At the very least, I know that merging the layer called 'Curve' and the layer called 'Curves' into one would achieve the same desired effect, but I can't find a way to do that, either. So to use the nomenclature of Designer, combine a separate 'Curve' - to a pre-exisiting set of 'Curves', to make one 'Curves'. Designer clearly supports having multiple curves inside one set of curves, but I'm not seeing an obvious menu item or contextual menu to make this happen. I want to do this without using layers - just combine all curves into one set. If someone could point me into the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
  14. Hi, is there a possibility to deselect single points (I am sure this ist not the correct term) in the curves (in Affinity Photo) without resetting the whole thing? I am new to the forum. Sorry if it was discussed somewhere else already, I couldn't find anything... Greetings and thanks in advance.
  15. Rounding, concave, straight and cutout curves are listed in the top right tool bar after clicking the curve took but how do you do a "reverse" curve. For example, if i have a rectangle.. some edges i want to round and others i want to invert so that the edges of my rectangle are pointy and the "round" is going inward. kind of like a "C" shape. The best i cant describe it as is an invert rounded option. Thanks in advance!
  16. Hi Folks, Happy new year and all that blah.... Quick questions, How would be the best way to go about adding a separate colour within a shape? I have created a a shape with a black fill and now within that shape I need to further add grey stripes/blocks. I need them to fill it accurately. If it was a square shape then no problems but this is far from square and has curves all over the shop. Any ideas? no doubt you will have, hence why a reply on this forum like nothing else  Cheers again and thanks in advance Mark
  17. It would be extremely useful to see the percentage values for curves like many of Affinity's competitors. It would allow us to work in a much more nuanced way. The curves tool is awesome, this would take it to the next level. Being able to actually input numerical values would also be useful.
  18. Hi there, is there a way to see percentage values on a curve? Affinity's big curve window is awesome, but percentages would make it much easier to be precise.
  19. Hi Folks, Me again.... After a little more help again please if you would be so kind. So, have a look at the file I have attached. Look to theft and you will see an upper and lower wing. I need the lower wing curve at the furthest left tip to match the curve of the upper wing, making it more symmetrical. Also, how do i make sure that the distance between the two wings (Upper and lower) is that same distance across the full length of the wing again ensuring symmetry. Hope that makes sense and someone can help. Thanks guys Mark Door Design 2.afdesign
  20. It would be super awesome if more was made of distorting shapes. At the moment if you hoover the mouse over the protruding centre line at the top of any shape and wait, you get a little icon which is two arrows pointing in either direction, you can click and drag this to skew the shape a little bit. But they you need to keep rotating the item then turning it a bit if you want to adjust it and it can be a bit of a pain. It would be great if there was a distortion menu which allowed you to just selected pre-made angles for which your shape could distort too, so for example isometric left, isometric right, 45 degrees etc.. and if then you can add advance alteration like changing the percentage of the skew and the manually pick the direction that would be perfect! Really awesome work on the software so far I use it everyday now!
  21. Hi, Just starting out evaluating the AP trial against my current editor (PS CS6). Very impressed so far; hugely impressed with your work. I primarily use Curves and Levels adjustment masks in my work. Using a Levels adjustment mask in PS CS6 and adjusting the Black and White levels, I can see a full-image clipping indication mask if I hold down ALT while adjusting. This is a really helpful tool. Is there an equivalent for this in AP? I tried holding down ALT while adjusting black/white sliders but there was no effect. I also tried the other modifier keys (Shift, Cmd etc), but also no effect. I'm using AP Trial v1.3.5 on a late 2012 Mac Mini running OS X 10.10.5. Many thanks, Matt
  22. Using the Pen tool I am trying to draw a line that starts with a curve but then I want the next portion to be straight. I Illustrator I would draw the curve and click the last point and then I could start drawing straight again. I believe pressing the P key would do the same. I can't figure out how to do this in Designer. I can only follow a curve segment connected to a curve segment. I hope that makes sense.
  23. Hello. I am using Affinity Photo. I have an image that has 2 objects in it. I want to cut these objects out of the image to remove the background. The Selection Brush Tool and Refine Selection option is not accurate enough to create and refine the selection boundary. I have created a closed curve around each of the objects in the image. Each curve is on a separate layer. Can I convert these curves to a selection so I can cut them out of the image? I have looked in the Help document and also viewed the videos on the Affinity website but cannot find any information regarding this type of task. Thanks in advance for your help. Cheers
  24. I have a png that I have imported to Affinity Designer. the current selection is "background (pixel)" How do I select individual objects or text within the document? I want to change color of text and also the logo, and I want to be able to separate parts and use them individually.
  25. Hello; I've noticed there's a handy button in the top right of the screen that allows to convert a text to curves. However, it only appears when a text object is selected (obviously) but it disappears if there are non-text objects selected as well. I mean, ¿is there a way to convert all the text objects without selecting them one by one? Let's say: selecting the whole document, clicking somewhere, all text traced. Thanks! Val
