  1. Using Affinity Photo trial 1.6.4.104. Edit : In Windows 7, Wacom Intuos Pro 4, XL. The problem: Specially with custom brushes, the outline ends up covering the area you are painting, when using medium or big size brushes (common for many painters, illustrators, even comic colorists, and 2D/3D texturing artists). Even the basic brush, round brush shape and outline (a brush which indeed is enough for high quality digital painting, with proper settings by the user, and expertise), is very productive to be able to disable it at options (due to some motion blur effect, and just for an outline's nature, it is too distracting). You can disable this in most applications (of course, I do not expect A. Photo to be like any other application. But is a common ground that this is more than desirable, as an optional setting ) and leave instead the existing crosshair, or even add options (not needed) as small cursor, big dot, triangle cursor, etc. Proposed solution : Quite some artists just completely disable the outline in other applications, and choose instead some sort of cursor (our current nice crosshair). We already have a good and efficient crosshair cursor. It is not too small and not too big, and visible enough, which is very important, too. So, just being able to disable the outline, in preferences, (completely fine if it would be not a default setting), it would perfectly do it. ( Together with the issue/feature request with the color selector-magnifier which I just posted, is the other thing that is actually stopping me from purchasing A.Photo (got Designer long ago) and actually probably moving all of my workflows, in each and every field, to Affinity Photo. I have been able to sort any other obstacle with this trial, already. ) Edit : It seems there was at least one other request about this, previous to mine. There are some differences, but there is important info about the matter that might help developers, in both threads, so, I am linking it here, as well, as could be useful for them, once arrived the moment : https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/52572-preferences-add option-to-removehide-brush-outline/
  2. Hello everyone! I've got some suggestions for improving the selection tools: 1: Could you add a shortcut to the tools that lets the user add to selection when holding shift? 2: Could you add a shortcut to the tools that lets the user subtract from the selection when holding alt? 3: Currently, when I select Mode -> Add, I can only add to selection if I am starting the loop outside of the current selection. It seems there is no way to start a loop inside the selection, because if I try to do so, I actually move the selection. This behaviour could be accessed with M (Rectangular Marquee Tool), though. Being able to start a loop inside the current selection is just easier sometimes. 4: Could you include the selection menu (from the menu bar) in the selection tools so that it is being displayed at cursor location when right clicking? 5: I guess this is a bug, but I am adding this here as it's about the same tool: Clicking L to select the Free Hand Selection Tool will not show a different cursor initially. The cursor will only be displayed after using the tool. Best wishes, Shu
  3. Hi, for a few days Im missing the input box, when I try to edit a selection size, or use a filter. All I got is this cursor, as shown in the attached picture, wich is bugging me. Any ideas how I can switch back to the normal input box? Thanks in advance
  4. So I've been using Affinity Designer now for about six months and just on this last artboard group that I've been working on I noticed that my artistic text tool is wonky. When I select the tool then move the cursor to create the size of text to start with, the text is much higher above my cursor and when I type, I am unable to get the cursor to select the bottom most row of text without using the keypad. It's like the box thinks my text is all much higher than it really is. Help! I am not loving the keystrokes to have to change my text.
  5. For the most part, Affinity Designer's tool cursor shapes are very clear to understand and the cursors match well with their icons. All except the Move Tool. When I first started using Affinity Designer and I was switching between the Move Tool and the Node Tool with keyboard shortcuts, I would often confuse them (OK, maybe my eyes are getting bad too...). Even after using AD for many months I am puzzled by why they are not consistent. My suggestion is to change them so they are clearer for the user. I made a suggestion below, but this is not the only solution— you may have a better one, but really the goal is to reduce ambiguity and increase consistency.
  6. I have a big suggest for you. Your software is great and the hardware too (iPad 10.5). So why I still use AF on desktop all the time? Due to the lack of a cursor. When i do D&B, I never see the area affected by the brush and this is annoying me. I don't know if the brush size fit my needs. And I cannot be precise (which area will be affected when I use the pencil?) I know that iPad doesn't have a cursor as I have on my desktop, but it would be nice to have a button that once you press it, the Apple Pencil doesn't draw anything, but just moving a cursor on the canvas. When I release the button, still showing the cursor, I start to draw, as well as I do right now. Sorry for my english.
  7. I am using Windows, and when using the paintbrush tool and clicking on 'width' and 'opacity' sliders above, paintbrush cursor (a circle) changes back into a move cursor (arrow), and I have to click again on the paintbrush icon on left toolbar to change it back again to the paintbrush cursor. Is this a bug which hasn't been dealt with yet or is there something which I haven't understood about the workflow?
  8. Hello, Simple request - when we chose text tool, mouse shows if we're about to make text area or simple text input. The same behaviour should come with shapes, For now users often have to make sure what shape we're gonna make.
  9. Installed and did some basic things withthe new 1.6.0.71 beta. Simple steps to reproduce on my system 1. open a file or a blank document 2. select brush 3. select forground colour (e.g. red) 4. Paint using wacom pen 5. nothing happens. Using the mouse however it's fine. All these steps work fine in the latest 1.5.2.69 In addition when I activate Stabilizer I have no choice to deactivate due to an unvisible cursor. I know it's a very early beta but why is the basic funcionality not more careful tested before making the version available (even on betas the basics functions should work) OS win10 x64 Wacom latest drivers (previous driver had been uninstalled before installing the new Wacom driver) regards klaus
  10. I can not see the size of a brush in APhoto on my Surface Pro 4 running Windows 10 and cannot find any settings that affect the cursor appearance?
  11. Hello to everyone, when I copy and paste a layer or a group, should move that object into position according to the cursor and not above the same object. Is interesting that when the copied object is not in frame, is pasted where the cursor is. I attached a video https://www.dropbox.com/s/xcaz29l8slbf9i3/2016-12-01%20at%2018-03-13.mp4?dl=0 Thanks
  12. Hi everybody I wanted to report something anoying when you need to draw precisely (for inking work). The cursor of the brush tool is full of the color you are actually using. If you want that big dot to disapear, you have to start drawing (with a tablet), so that the cursor's size shrink according to the ammount of pressure you give . So it's difficult to place precisely the beginning of your paint stroke. (see screenshot at the bottom, the cursor disapeared when i took the screenshot, so imagine it on top of the black circle) Is there is a way to change the cursor's behaviour, i didn't find it in the settings. To sum up, what would be great, would be just to leave the cursor empty when you're not drawing. thanks for your great work!
  13. Hey guys, I thought it would be really convenient to add Flip controls to objects' bounding boxes. Basically what I'm proposing is to change the cursor when it hovers over the top/bottom and left/right control handles while INSIDE the bounding box - in distinction from the shear cursor which appears when hovering OUTSIDE the top/bottom and left/right control handles of an object's bounding box. Additionally, adding a modifier for duplicating (alt or option keys come to mind) would make this a slick timesaver and UI improvement and shouldn't be too hard to code. Check out the attached image to see a mock-up. Cheers guys, the apps are rocking more with each release! Preview: AD master file: Flip cursor.zip
  14. Hello, I've been using Affinity for a while now, and have liked it quite a lot. Photo bends quite well to digital painting (sometimes even better than PS) but today I noticed a tiny problem. When I use Paint Brush with a brush that has texture (I've included a picture), the brush cursor shows all the little holes in the brush too, which makes it a bit hard to see what I'm painting. Is there a way to reduce the cursor's visibility somehow? For example turning it into a crosshair permanently (for now crosshair works only when the brush is really small) or showing only the outline of the brush, not it's insides too? I've looked through the Preferences and the forums, but I haven't found a solution yet. Thanks!
  15. With a dark background color behind a text box sometimes it is almost impossible to find the cursor. Would it be possible to add an option for a lighter or darker color to the cursor to solve this? Thanks.
  16. A keyboard combination for a 1/10 stepping is missing. - Like alt + cursor key. Explanation: Currently: Selecting an object or a value field. Tapping the cursor keys increments or decrements the value or object position by 1 step. So you can adjust object attributes. Holding the shift key while tap the cursor keys increments or decrements the value or object position by 10 steps at once. So you can adjust object attributes in broad range. But which key do you have to hold, to do the opposite? To make the fine adjustments. The increment or decrement the first number behind the floating point. - So in other App you have to hold the alt key, to increment or decrement the values or object position by 1/10 steps. I'm missing that in Affinity Designer and Photo.
  17. When working with text within some color boxes it is almost impossible to see exactly where the cursor is and thus difficult to reposition the text tool cursor. I realize that the cursor must be thin enough to position it correction within a text. Could this be solved by simply using the CMD or CNTL key to *view* the move tool cursor temporarily? When releasing the CMD or CNTL key, the cursor would return to the text cursor and one would continue the edit. To be clear, all I would like is simply a help to see where the text cursor is and then return to editing the text. Clicking anywhere while CMD or CNTL is pressed actually could change the text tool to the move tool. I hope that using CMD or CNTL would only *show* the move tool and not actually change to that tool. Otherwise, one would have to choose the text tool again to continue editing the text. Elsewhere I have suggested this as a way to bring up the move tool more easily when within a text. I have been told that this may appear in a coming beta. Thanks to all working on this.

I realize that the cursor must be thin enough to position it correction within a text. Could this be solved by simply pushing the CMD or CNTL key to change the text cursor *temporarily* to the move tool? 19. Hi All, I was just setting up Astropad for use with AF, but have somehow managed to change my brush cursor to a cross hair, which is instantly annoying! I think Photoshop used to have a keyboard shortcut, like tild key or something that would change the cursor for the brush? Is there a key for changing brush cursors, or a setting somewhere? Or have I imagined the whole thing and it's been a cross hair the whole time?? Thanks Wayne
  20. Consider to change the actual behaviour of pasting object in a way that when someone copies an object and hit paste it will paste the object under the cursor unlike now when the new object is mostly pasted over the copied one. First it helps on larger/large projects, basically anytime where you wanna simply copy and paste object from one place to the other, plus it helps in selection. I do not see any reason why the pasted object should lay over the original one.. nobody wants it there, the original one is there already.. plus there is a function for copying and object over the original one (something like "copy in place") anyway Super+J (Duplicate)
  21. I remember long time ago, when people made use of enormous towers with 486 CPUs in it, our raster picture manipulation programs had features like "paste on layer..." or "paste image under cursor", so you can right away drop the picture you have pasted into your project where you want it. its not that important, just came to thought...
  22. I wish there is a better and more precise cursor in the next update. (At least a crosshair option available) As in the attached gif file. It's hard to see the center point of the cursor and also the size of the brush related to my stylus pressure (I'm using Wacom tablet).
  23. Sometimes what looks like a wine glass appears next to the Node tool. Could someone enlighten me over what it is for?
  24. When drawing with textured vector brushes you are shown a black circle to indicate where the brush is on the canvas. However, shrink the brush down to a small size and this cursor becomes a white dot that gets easily lost against a white background, and so you can't see where you are drawing. Not sure if this issue is universal, as I am only using textured vector brushes at the moment, but seems to me maybe an option for a different cursor might be a simple way to address the problem. How about an option for an actual brush as the cursor? I tried to take a screenshot, but it wouldn't show the cursor. To see what I'm talking about just shrink the size of a textured vector brush and try to draw on a white background. Can't really be done. :(
  25. Hello, I have an issue with cursor visibility. I use a thin paint brush (2px) for sketching in pixel persona but its almost impossible to see the cursor which makes it really hard.. I would like some kind of cursor not dependent on the brush size and zoom, like a cross or something. Any suggestions on how to solve my issue? Edit: In draw persona, using the pencil tool, I have a nice pen cursor.
