  1. Hi, We develop for Autodesk (external) and have a tool that allows users to copy/paste svg into Maya. We've been getting requests from users to better support Affinity so we're testing it out but getting an issue we can't get our head round. Our current workflow (or one of them at least) in Maya is based on the ability to copy SVG info out of e.g. Illustrator/web etc to your clipboard and then paste that directly into Maya (to create 3d geometry). I'm new to Affinity so maybe missing a workflow here but it seems this isn't possible? I've tried copying the clipboard from Affinity into a text editor but that doesn't seem to give any results. What does seem to work is copy/pasting into Illustrator. We also have an 'import svg' function which works fine from Affinity (i.e. File > Export > SVG) so a little in the dark about where the issue lies. Can anyone shed any light on this? i.e. what is actually being copied to the clipboard? Thanks, Chris
  2. Is there any way to paste an object into the exact same place (X & Y coord) from one artboard into another artboard in AD? Every time I try it seems to retain its Y coord, but not its X coord. Thanks for the help! :)
  3. In Affinity Designer Beta, I have an EPS vector with more than 1000 icons. I want to drag a selection box around one of them to copy or recolor it. But Designer selects ALL the icons with the Move tool, or individual elements of each icon with the Node tool. In Illustrator, I can easily drag around any icon to select it. How do I do that with Designer? 1111_XXL_set2.eps
  4. I have nested groups of text frames and shapes that I copied. These groups were inside a layer in another group. I want to place these groups inside another layer and still retain the original groups---- but when I highlight the layer or place where I would like to paste this copy, it always ends up outside of all layers and also doesn't retain the groupings made in the copy-all frames and shapes get pasted as individual items on their own layer. Is copy/pasting groups not there yet?
  5. I know I have inadvertently done this in the past but now that I want to --- I can't figure it out. IE; I am creating a design to print on fabric that is sort of a word toss of a child's name in several different fonts. My plan was to make each font for "jane" a different layer but may want to change that particular font/name to ' john' and when I change one it will change all those names in that font at the same time ---- I would appreciate the help. Thanks
  6. I tried all of the copy and paste possibilities, but nothing helped. How to copy and paste from one layer to another transform values? Appreciate any help! :)
  7. Hi, I came across a strange mistake. I'll start from the beginning. I'm working on a brochure, with bend in the middle , so I started doing it in final form (that how it's should look like). I thought that i can join it through the export persona and converted to pdf and with bleeds and crop marks like here ( ). However, when i combine the two artboards, the bleed disappear after export. So I decided to dived the pages manually by the squares and then reoorder the pages for the finall print. But when i copy the pages each half has a different color. When I give duplicate, so it will not. I do not know if it's a bug in the program or just an incorrect settings or using affinity. Thanks for the reply. I hope this is not too confusing post :) PS: look at the attached file. It's quire obvious that each half has different color.
  8. Hi, how can I copy and paste text format in Affinity Designer? Like color of text, font size, etc. Many thanks in advance to all for help. Theo
  9. Whenever i copy a picture (from web or my own files) on my clipboard and i try to paste it on my affinity canvas it pastes as text (https type link). It did not used to do this. The workaround includes a lot more steps. Can anyone help me revert it back to where it wont do this and just post the image?
  10. Hi all, that kind of function/button would speed up workflow :) Cheers, Stefan.
  11. Excuse me i don't know if it can be done in the windows version so i can't copy a gradient from an element to another, and i think the dropper tool is a bit hard to find and as said can't get the gradients. Pls give me a feedback.
  12. It would be a very useful feature to copy the features of a text , color type, size and color contour like Corel Draw funcion.
  13. Hi All: I'm completely new to Affinity, don't know a thing about using it, and just bought it today. Before I begin to try to learn to use it, can anyone tell me how I can download a copy of the software for backup purposes? I purchased the program through the App Store, but would also like to have a backup copy in case I need it. Is that possible? Thanks! -- Ray
  14. I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm new to Designer and I have been watching the tutorials to get help, but now I"m stuck. I watched the tutorial about "power duplicate" and in the tutorial when he creates another star shape, in the layers you can see that the star shape is in the same layer as the original star. When I create a copy of my star shape Designer is creating the star shape in a brand new layer instead of in the same layer. Instead of having multiple stars in the same layer like in the tutorial I have multiple layers of one star. Is there a setting I'm missing? Can someone assist me? HELP!
  15. I'm new to AD and have only limited experience with vector graphics programs in general, so please bear with me. I'm trying to use AD to create a watch face. I have done this using GIMP in the past with few problems, but am hitting some frustrating issues with AD. I want to have the following markers displayed along the outer edge of the watch face: sub-minute markers 5 per minute. Rotation = 1.2 degrees. Minute markers = 6 degrees Hour markers = 30 degrees I create my 1st marker as a vertical line at the 12 o'clock position, then cmd-J to duplicate, move the rotation center to guides at the vertical and horizontal center of the face, rotate it (painfully) by zooming in and dragging to the desired 1.2 degree rotation, then use cmd-J to make duplicates. I've been able to use Power Duplicate to create small numbers of duplicates, but find it "drifts" when trying to do larger numbers. I have tried clicking the outside center, inside center and center buttons in the transform box with little success. I have tried entering 1.200000 as the R value in the Transform box. By the time I generate enough sub-minute markers to get to the 90 degree position (75 duplications), I see 2 common problems: The rotation value has drifted by +.3 degrees. At 90 degrees, the final marker is at 90.3 or worse. The rotation center drifts, resulting in a spiral effect. This "drift" is so bad that my hour and minute markers don't even align properly. This is all compounded by having to rotate using the mouse, as entering values directly into the Transform R box changes the rotation center. The only workaround I've found is carefully creating a small number of markers, duplicating these as a group and rotating those. I'm finding this much slower than I expected. In GIMP, I'd create the 1st marker, duplicate and rotate 5 markers, merge those layers, duplicate and rotate 6 degrees for the next minute and successively merge, duplicate and rotate until I could produce a dial in a few minutes. I have also purchased Affinity Photo, but don't see a better solution there, and I'd prefer to stick to vectors. I don't think there's anything much simpler than a watch face, yet I'm finding this very difficult to achieve. Am I missing a fundamental trick?
  16. Hello, Not sure If my system is borked but I seem to be having troubles copying text from an Affinity Designer Text Frame into another plain text editor. Simple command-c to command-v does not seem to cut it, nor does working from the edit menu. Any tips? Thanks.
  17. I wish to copy (or export) the objects including the style as plain Core Craphics Code. Like you can do it in iDraw / Autodesk Graphic. Sample: If you select the star, right click onto and choose "Copy As > Core Craphics Code". You'll get the raw Code of Core Craphics of the object and his style attributes in the pasteboard. So you could directly paste it in Xcode's code editor view. #if TARGET_OS_IPHONE CGContextRef ctx = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); // iOS #else CGContextRef ctx = [[NSGraphicsContext currentContext] graphicsPort]; // OS X #endif // enable the following lines for flipped coordinate systems // CGContextTranslateCTM(ctx, 0, self.bounds.size.height); // CGContextScaleCTM(ctx, 1, -1); CGColorSpaceRef colorSpace = CGColorSpaceCreateDeviceRGB(); CGFloat scaleFactor = 1; // CGContextScaleCTM(ctx, scaleFactor, scaleFactor); /* Shape */ CGMutablePathRef pathRef = CGPathCreateMutable(); CGPathMoveToPoint(pathRef, NULL, 252.668, 378.613); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pathRef, NULL, 276.422, 300.098); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pathRef, NULL, 211.055, 250.54); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pathRef, NULL, 293.067, 248.869); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pathRef, NULL, 320, 171.387); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pathRef, NULL, 346.933, 248.869); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pathRef, NULL, 428.945, 250.54); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pathRef, NULL, 363.578, 300.098); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pathRef, NULL, 387.332, 378.613); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pathRef, NULL, 320, 331.759); CGPathCloseSubpath(pathRef); /* Drop Shadow */ CGFloat shadowColorComps[] = { 0.082, 0.09, 0.086, 0.5 }; CGColorRef shadowColor = CGColorCreate(colorSpace, shadowColorComps); CGMutablePathRef shadowPath = CGPathCreateMutable(); CGPathMoveToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 83.5, 170.365); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 83.972, 171.723); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 110.791, 248.876); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 192.455, 250.54); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 193.893, 250.57); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 192.747, 251.439); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 127.657, 300.786); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 151.31, 378.968); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 151.727, 380.345); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 150.546, 379.523); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 83.5, 332.868); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 16.454, 379.523); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 15.273, 380.345); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 15.69, 378.968); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 39.343, 300.786); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, -25.747, 251.439); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, -26.893, 250.57); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, -25.455, 250.54); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 56.209, 248.876); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 83.028, 171.723); CGPathAddLineToPoint(shadowPath, NULL, 83.5, 170.365); CGPathCloseSubpath(shadowPath); CGMutablePathRef clipPath = CGPathCreateMutable(); CGPathMoveToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 202.107, 159.365); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 438.893, 159.365); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 438.893, 391.345); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 202.107, 391.345); CGPathCloseSubpath(clipPath); CGPathMoveToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 320.5, 170.365); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 320.028, 171.723); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 293.209, 248.876); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 211.545, 250.54); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 210.107, 250.57); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 211.253, 251.439); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 276.343, 300.786); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 252.69, 378.968); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 252.273, 380.345); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 253.454, 379.523); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 320.5, 332.868); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 387.546, 379.523); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 388.727, 380.345); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 388.31, 378.968); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 364.657, 300.786); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 429.747, 251.439); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 430.893, 250.57); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 429.455, 250.54); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 347.791, 248.876); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 320.972, 171.723); CGPathAddLineToPoint(clipPath, NULL, 320.5, 170.365); CGPathCloseSubpath(clipPath); CGContextSaveGState(ctx); CGContextAddPath(ctx, clipPath); CGContextClip(ctx); CGContextTranslateCTM(ctx, 2, 5); CGContextSetShadowWithColor(ctx, CGSizeMake((237 * scaleFactor), 0), (5 * scaleFactor), shadowColor); CGContextSetRGBFillColor(ctx, 0, 0, 0, 1); CGContextAddPath(ctx, shadowPath); CGContextFillPath(ctx); CGContextRestoreGState(ctx); CGColorRelease(shadowColor); CGPathRelease(shadowPath); CGPathRelease(clipPath); CGContextSetRGBFillColor(ctx, 0.816, 0.82, 0.816, 1); CGContextAddPath(ctx, pathRef); CGContextFillPath(ctx); CGContextSetLineWidth(ctx, 1); CGContextSetRGBStrokeColor(ctx, 0.325, 0.306, 0.314, 1); CGContextAddPath(ctx, pathRef); CGContextStrokePath(ctx); CGPathRelease(pathRef); CGColorSpaceRelease(colorSpace);
  18. I wish to copy (or export) the style of an object as CSS. For example: Like you can do it in Photoshop ...or within Sketch ...or in Autodesk Graphic / iDraw.
  19. hello, i seem to be having issues with the marquee tool in the pixel persona layout. i have a large object i would like to take a sample from. so i have gone into pixel persona layout and drawn a rectangular marquee over the area i would like to use. however when i try to copy, i do not get any response. pasting simply pastes the last layer i copied earlier. is there a trick to this? thank you.
  20. I brought an eps file into Designer which has several shapes inside one layer (which is being described as 'Curves' in the layer menu). There was one shape that I wanted to copy and paste into the same set of curves, so that the file retains one set of curves, but I can't find a way to do that. Every time I go to paste the shape, it creates a new separate layer called 'Curve'). At the very least, I know that merging the layer called 'Curve' and the layer called 'Curves' into one would achieve the same desired effect, but I can't find a way to do that, either. So to use the nomenclature of Designer, combine a separate 'Curve' - to a pre-exisiting set of 'Curves', to make one 'Curves'. Designer clearly supports having multiple curves inside one set of curves, but I'm not seeing an obvious menu item or contextual menu to make this happen. I want to do this without using layers - just combine all curves into one set. If someone could point me into the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
  21. The one feature that would completely move me from AI would be the ability to copy a set of curves and past them as masks in After Effects. This feature works great in AI but I hate having to load it up to just make an advance mask for AE. Please! :D
  22. Would be really nice to be able to copy/past Apple Numbers spreadsheet tables into Affinity Designer. Right now it is pretty rubbish, and If I want to get a table pasted into Affinity Designer I need to Copy from Apple Numbers, Paste into Adobe Photoshop, export as PSD, import PSD into Affinity designer. I say Apple Numbers because the table design tools are the best there is, fast easy and very good quality. This would negate Affinity Designer having to get too involved in creating its own table designer, In Design tables are trash also, but I can copy/paste from Apple Numbers. Thanks,
  23. Is there any way (in Designer or Photo) to copy the Layer Effects of one layer and apply them to another layer (so you can have precisely the same settings)? I used to do this in Photoshop by command-dragging the effect onto another layer (I think it was command ... some modifier anyway!). Many thanks :-) (Edit: I like the fact you can have the Layer Effects panel open and then select different layers and the panel updates to show that layer's settings. That helps a bit with entering the same values on another layer.)
  24. I'm fairly new to AD and loving it! I've been designing patterns for a messenger bag to be made of leather and, before I knew how to use artboards, had separate documents for various bag parts (e.g., front, inside pocket). I designed a strap, for example, that will be riveted onto a pocket. The strap is in one file and the pocket in another. They are all drawn actual size. But, when I copy the strap to paste it onto the pocket, the strap appears huge compared to the pocket. I fear I may be missing something obvious but I don't know what it is. I've made sure both documents have the same print page size (A4) and made sure the units are the same between documents. Nevertheless, an object this is 11.733 inches in one document pastes into the other document at 33.665 inches. Thank you in advance for your help! --- AD 1.4 Mac OS 10.11.1
  25. How do I introduce a jpg into a canvas to begin working with it? I can't seem to copy and paste the jpg. When I open one tab with the canvas and another with the image I can't select and copy the image - it's greyed out. Thanks
