  1. Issue / Task: Imagine you are creating a user interface or some other dynamic / modular design consisting of a variety of elements, sharing certain properties, such as color stroke width fx and many more Possible Applications: Creating dynamic, unified color palettes for multiple buttons, knobs, input fields etc. Changing global or semi-global stroke properties on the fly Re-using existing designs while applying new schemes for a new entry in the series swiftly Speeding up changes to large-scale projects in general Related Solutions: While Symbols allow for document-wide changes in properties within copies of the same object or shape, when working with a diverse range of shapes, groups and nestings can be tedious to impossible. Inheritances would speed up things considerably and add a whole range of possibilities. Implementation Suggestion: I would imagine the following workflow to be quite effective and straightforward, at least as far as my routine is concerned: Select and copy the source element Select the element to inherit a property Navigate to a window / tab with any property (such as color, stroke, fx etc.) Click the Inherit Button, a small, universal icon found in all studio tabs and windows. This property is now linked to the source element. Changing this specific property within the source element also affects this element. Click the Inherit Button again to unlink / disable the inheritance. Copying elements with an inheritance would preserve the inheritance for the copied element. I hope this makes reasonnable sense - of course I would be thrilled to find out something similar was already available in Affinity Designer. Cheers!
  2. Please honor the standard Windows hotkey convention, and your Windows users, and incorporate the following: CTRL + F4 as Close Window SHIFT + DELETE as Cut CTRL + INSERT as Copy SHIFT + INSERT as Paste I understand users can configure hotkeys, though many Windows users expect some or all of these hotkey sequence to work as expected. Further most users will 'fight with'/'bend to' application defaults rather than configure such application behavior details. These refinements will improve application usability and user efficiency. I also understand CTRL + W is defined as close window (is this a Mac convention? I have not seen this behavior in other Windows applications.). Retaining CTRL + W, and adding CTRL + F4 or replacing CTRL + W with CTRL + F4 are equally welcome refinements. I have not tested for the possibility in Affinity Publisher to allow for user configured multiple hotkey sequences for the same function (e.g. CTRL + X and SHIFT + DELETE both as cut). It is common for Windows users to be familiar with and use both, or prefer one over the other. Please consider incorporating this behavior in the Windows versions of Affinity Designer and Photo. Thank you for considering.
  3. Double-clicking an AFDESIGN document in Windows Explorer runs Publisher - see related issue here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/69657-affinity-logo-change/ When asked what to do with the document - Cancel, Continue or Copy - I opt to open a copy. The document opens and I opt to convert artboards into spreads, all seems fine. When I then try to close Publisher - without making any other changes - I get a dialog box as shown in the attached image. After waiting a few minutes I still get the same message when trying to close Publisher. Closing the document itself works fine but then when trying to close Publisher I still get the same message. The only way to quit Publisher after opening a copy of the document is by using the Task Manager.
  4. Hi, everybody. the problem is I can't cut the pictures properly 6002BD2A-F31F-4DC5-AF38-EAA0967EFEB6.MP4
  5. Hi guys, How do I copy a pixel selection? In Fireworks you simply draw a shape with the marquee tool, hit Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, and the pixel selection is copied. How can I do this in Affinity? The help file doesn't seem to explain this. Thanks
  6. Where are the icons for copy, paste and save please? I would like them on the top left of my screen instead of having to use CTRL C, CTRL V and CTRL S. These is a normal windows icons and whilst I love keyboard shortcuts sometimes it is faster to use icons when working with pictures using my mouse, Many thanks in advance, Marilyn
  7. This may seem a stupid question but I am used to the idea of drawing a selection box round part of an image and hitting command-C or command to copy and then command-V to paste a section of the image somewhere else on the same image or on another one - that works in Photoshop. When I try to do this in Affinity Photo (working on a PDF image), after drawing a selection box, both Cut and Copy are greyed out in the Edit menu and using the keyboard shortcuts has no effect. I do this all the time in Photoshop with newspaper cuttings, using copy and paste to fit the page header with the name of the newspaper and publication date, which typically spans four or more columns, above the single column cutting. How can I copy part of an image in Affinity Photo?
  8. Hey guys, Just downloaded the new Beta version, and I found this problem. When using Ctrl hold and draging a shape in order to duplicate it, the original shape will change its position as well by a few pixels. It happens very often, like 70% of all times. Is there a way to revert back to the previous beta version? It was pretty stable. Thanks, Chris
  9. I have an image where some parts need sharpening and some parts need denoising or smoothing. The obvious way to do this is to create a mask that divides the image into these two component parts. No problem, I create an edge mask as a new layer and refine it appropriately. I could now duplicate my original image and sharpen one version (using Nik Sharpener) and denoise the other using Nik DFine. The mask should now be able to ensure that what I see is partly sharpened and partly denoised. But I cannot see how I can place the mask I have created to perform this task. I Because sharpening and denoising are fairly subtle, I have been practicing on an an image and a desaturated version, and a layer comprising several vertical black-and-white stripes so that I should be able to see a fairly obvious mask effect. I have tried following various videos and on-line guides typically involving moving the stripy mask into a position on one of the layers, but what I see is always either the stripy mask or no effect at all. The image below shows what I see before trying to place the mask. Any advice gratefully received. John
  10. In this tutorial I will demonstrate the option Copy items as SVG in Affinity Designer 1.6.0. I use this function often to animate SVG with CSS keyframe animations and some JS in HTML. Just like this example which is a GIF (SVG is not allowed because of it's security issue). You can watch the original SVG file here. Keep on drawin' Norbert
  11. Today I learned that pasting elements between Designer documents with different resolution results on different object size. This is a normal behavior on bitmap software, like Photo or Photoshop, because they work with pure pixels and must adapt to the number of pixels the pasted image has upon the resolution, but is a complete hassle on vector apps like Designer, where the key is that you usually design on physical objet size, independently of resolution. This is specially hard when you are working with exact measures, like packaging or any technical illustration. I suggest three possible solutions A: Document or application setting to allow users to select their preference on copy pasting. B: Let the app auto select the pasting behavior based on the measure unit for the documents. (Preference to resolution if pixels unit, or preference to real size if a measure unit is selected) C: Special paste command for "paste preserving size" Hope I'm not the only one finding this important on his workflow. cheers!
  12. Hello I just noticed that I copy something from document A to B and this something change size when I paste it. Both documents are of the same size. Am I doing something wrong? Some option that I need to change or something? Thanks (affinity windows)
  13. Copying ,Ccutting,Deleting,Paisting to / from selections.
  14. how to copy selection and paste it to the new layer (like comand + c and command + v in photoshop) is is possible to activate bilt in keyboard and use it for shotcut commands? I am using aphinity on iPad pro
  15. Hi forum, First of all I have to say I'm am very very happy about affinity photo, I love it! What I'd like to see, the possibility to copy / paste onto layer masks (pixel layer masks as well as adjustment/effect layer masks), and to edit the current layer mask with the quickmask function. – For instance, you have applied one of those sharpen-effects to some areas, and then you want to try out a different sharpen-effect, you could simply copy the old effect mask and copy it onto the new one to see the comparison. At the moment, you can make a selection your of the current mask, and then paint within these areas onto the new mask, but this only works with simple masks, and it's more a workaround. And even nicer – as it is possible in PS: to be able to perform pixel adjustments (the basic ones like contrast, brightness – but maybe even effects like gaussian blur) on to layer masks. – Let's say you have a complex pixel or adjustment layer mask with some grey, black and white areas, and then you want to increase the "middletone of the effect" a bit. Then you could simply select that mask and adjust contrast and brightness of the masks. Or the edges of an effect are too sharp, then you could apply the blur effect onto that layer mask to unsharpen them. Cheers Juergen PS: Ahh! I got the wrong forum! Just reposted it in "general photo feature request".

  17. In the image attached I would like to delete the two people on the left and then somehow copy the ones on the right and move them into a position slightly left of center. Can anyone advise me 'step by step' of how to go about this please as i'm sure once mastered, I'll be able to use it in other images too
  18. Copy bug using Marquee Tool and Quick Mask Starting with a file consisting of 2 layers (whereby the top layer is of another photo then the bottom layer), I want to select a part of the top layer using the Marquee Tool and paste it to a third layer. To achieve this, I do the following… I activate the Marquee Tool, make a selection and subsequently use the Quick Mask tool and Move Tool to refine the selection. As you can see I moved the selection and changed its size. By activating the Marquee Tool again and deselecting the Quick Mask, I have now my refined selection which I can copy and paste. Doing that results in a totally wrong copied area. In the example I have included, I have the second layer de-activated, so that you can see the selected area (marquee) and the result of copy-paste.
  19. In photoshop you can make a new layer via copy. Make selection then hit CMD+J for make a new layer with selected content Is it possible to achieve the same using AD? btw, what do you think about to merge vector and pixel persona in to one? Shading is still more convenient using raster brushes. Thank you.
  20. Well, I need a clou here if I‘m just overlooking something or it is just currently not possible :) I made two different documents in Designer on my iMac: 1) CMYK with the Generic CMYK profile 2) CMYK und the ISO Coated v2 300% (ECI) Now, for example, if I create a red object with 100M 100Y in the Generic document and it looks like it should. If I copy it and paste it into the ISO Coated document it converts the color appropriate to the other profile: for now 2C 95M 83Y 6K and looks surely different. In other programms like Illustrator, ... I have the option to paste with converting into the profile or use the color values – and that is what I am missing. It just converts every time to the profile instead to use the correct values or even giving me the choice. If I place the Generic document (with the place command) into the ISO Coated document and double click the now embedded object, it opens and show me correct the 100M 100Y values inside the ISO Coated document. It correctly converts only if I export it to PDF with the document profile. I can switch the profile in the document prefs and select asign or convert, but all things pasted via the clipboard get always converted. Ist there an option the preserve the values? Thanks for any help in advance. :-)
  21. Is there any way to copy a portion of and image or a shape and paste and distort via the mesh? Whenever I try to do this by creating a selection with the Smart Selection Brush or the Poly Marquee Tool it will copy the ENTIRE LAYER. How can I avoid copying the entire layer when all I wish to copy is the specific selection?

  23. Affinity photo developers need to seriously make selection and moving objects much easier in iPad! It is such a hassle to select and copy to a new layer (why so many unnecessary steps?) ... and then to use the Move tool is a very aggravating chore which is MUCH MUCH easier in Photoshop! Come on... I'm sure you guys can do better than this considering how efficient and easy it is to do everything else in Affinity Photo. Please refine and simplify the selection, copy/paste and move functions in Affinity Photo for iPad.
  24. When I copy an area using the Marquee Tool and subsequently paste, then the pasted copy lands up in the upper left corner. See attached photo.
  25. I posted on this five days back and, to my surprise, have had no feedback from the folks at Affinity who are usually so wonderfully prompt to respond. In fact the only feedback was another user confirming the same problem. My original post was made concerning the previous beta however it is still unfailingly present in 1.6.5 and gets even more bizarre. If I create a selection with any selection tool and then perform a Copy/Paste (or Cut/paste) the pasted image is severely offset from the original Copy. In the attached images I have shown the original cat in magenta together with the selection. To make the paste clearer I have re-coloured it yellow. Now here's where it gets stranger. As long as the top part of the selection does not intersect the object being selected then the paste occurs correctly but as soon as the top of the selection intersects it offsets. This never occurs in 1.5.2. I still have this loaded and have done direct side by side comparisons. So I then tried copying and pasting between 1.5.2 and 1.6.5. It works fine in both directions. The problem only occurs when 1.6.5 is pasting to itself. This is seriously bizarre and seriously irritating as it affects Affinity Photo's usability to a very severe degree. Any thoughts please from the experts?
