  1. I am trying to "left justify" some copy and it only goes to "justified left/ragged right", no matter what I try. I don't understand why it won't justify on both sides. The other options work, center justified, full justified, but the left justified option only goes to a regular left/ragged right. Is there a special way to create a text box? I just typed out the text and it seems to have created it's own text box. thanks.
  2. Is there a way to copy and paste edits to do a batch of RAW files? I want to apply the same edits across a few RAW files taken. I know there is a MACRO function and arent sure if this is what Im looking for.
  3. I spent a lot of time of time trying to get a selected area of my image out of Affinity Photo. With no luck. It seems "copy" only works within Photo and is not compatible with the iOS pasteboard. So, how do I export only part of my image? Either a selection or a layer? Do I have to delete everything else first? Apparently, this is an ugly hack.
  4. I am looking for a way to "link" an object(s) rather than copying and pasting, or "placing" in such a way that a change to the original object is reflected wherever it has been used. For example, see the screenshot (I am using artboards here, but just for this example). I would like to a change to the objects in the "logo" artboard to be reflected in the "letterhead" and "envelope" artboards, for example changing the text from "A Logo" to "My Logo". Is there some approach that would allow this? Doesn't have to be between artboards... logo could be a separate document, etc. Thanks... I love using Affinity Designer, and use it for all my vector based work now.
  5. hi experts..., when i want to copy & paste some objects in AD from one document across another document (also from one artboard to another in the same document), the size of the objects will be completly changed... is there an option for exact copying...?
  6. Issue / Task: Imagine you are creating a user interface or some other dynamic / modular design consisting of a variety of elements, sharing certain properties, such as color stroke width fx and many more Possible Applications: Creating dynamic, unified color palettes for multiple buttons, knobs, input fields etc. Changing global or semi-global stroke properties on the fly Re-using existing designs while applying new schemes for a new entry in the series swiftly Speeding up changes to large-scale projects in general Related Solutions: While Symbols allow for document-wide changes in properties within copies of the same object or shape, when working with a diverse range of shapes, groups and nestings can be tedious to impossible. Inheritances would speed up things considerably and add a whole range of possibilities. Implementation Suggestion: I would imagine the following workflow to be quite effective and straightforward, at least as far as my routine is concerned: Select and copy the source element Select the element to inherit a property Navigate to a window / tab with any property (such as color, stroke, fx etc.) Click the Inherit Button, a small, universal icon found in all studio tabs and windows. This property is now linked to the source element. Changing this specific property within the source element also affects this element. Click the Inherit Button again to unlink / disable the inheritance. Copying elements with an inheritance would preserve the inheritance for the copied element. I hope this makes reasonnable sense - of course I would be thrilled to find out something similar was already available in Affinity Designer. Cheers!
  7. It occurred when I wanted to copy text from Word but I cannot paste in Designer. I tried using other apps (ex: Notes, Pages) and also tried restart the app and reboot my iPad Pro 10.5 though it still didn't work neither. Is it a bug from updating iOS 12 or not? Please clarify and solve this problem cause I have only this app that can work with my graphic design on iPad and I still have more work to do with texts. Thanks in advance.
  8. Please honor the standard Windows hotkey convention, and your Windows users, and incorporate the following: CTRL + F4 as Close Window SHIFT + DELETE as Cut CTRL + INSERT as Copy SHIFT + INSERT as Paste I understand users can configure hotkeys, though many Windows users expect some or all of these hotkey sequence to work as expected. Further most users will 'fight with'/'bend to' application defaults rather than configure such application behavior details. These refinements will improve application usability and user efficiency. I also understand CTRL + W is defined as close window (is this a Mac convention? I have not seen this behavior in other Windows applications.). Retaining CTRL + W, and adding CTRL + F4 or replacing CTRL + W with CTRL + F4 are equally welcome refinements. I have not tested for the possibility in Affinity Publisher to allow for user configured multiple hotkey sequences for the same function (e.g. CTRL + X and SHIFT + DELETE both as cut). It is common for Windows users to be familiar with and use both, or prefer one over the other. Please consider incorporating this behavior in the Windows versions of Affinity Designer and Photo. Thank you for considering.
  9. I want to copy a small square portion of a layer. I draw a marquee using the box marquee tool I copy I paste It pastes a new copy layer not the marquee selection . I can mask or fill but i cant seem to copy the selection. I'm obviously making a very basic error but i cant find it.
  10. Hi, everybody. the problem is I can't cut the pictures properly 6002BD2A-F31F-4DC5-AF38-EAA0967EFEB6.MP4
  11. Hello! I'm quite new to the Affinity family. I've been using Affinity Photo for some time to do some basic photo editing. Now I'm getting into some design work to submit for surface pattern design. This requires that I paste many layers and shift them around to make appealing patterns. One thing I can't figure out how to undo is when I click a layer/object that layer sometimes ends up being duplicated! It's incredibly annoying because I only want to move one layer, not duplicate it. This happens when I have the move tool selected and attempt to move the layer. I can sort of reset it by going to the layers panel and manually selecting a new layer, moving it to see if it is duplicating or not, and then going back to the layer I actually want to move. But after a few alterations, it starts to do it again. This happens in either Designer or Photo. Is there some setting I have triggered? If so, how do I turn it off? Thank you.
  12. Hey guys, When I wanna duplicate something I hit Ctrl and click, hold and drag. Everything is perfect. But when I use Alt instead of Ctrl, even if I have the "whole pixels" options enabled, when I duplicate the new object and drag it, I get decimals for X and Y. Cheers, Chris
  13. Not sure if this is a known issue, so I apologize if this has been discussed already. I have a new project folder, in that project folder I have (currently) 2 files. My main document which has only one layer at the moment, and a separate photo I'm masking my subject out in. I need to copy the masked layer of the subject into the document with the background. When I select the subject layer, select "copy" and attempt to paste this layer and it's mask into my background document, the layer and it's mask are pasted, but the actual subject in the layer is missing. This is repeatable without change. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.
  14. In the latest version I'm getting an strange message. It used to be seamless, copy -> Paste and that was it. But now I'm getting this message: Is there that can be fixed in affinity? Pasting stuff finally works (it does paste and it's vector based and all...the thing is that this sign appears each time I paste something. If you have a lot of graphics you have to move from affinity to keynote...it's really annoying. Thanks for taking the time to read this. B.
  15. Hi guys, How do I copy a pixel selection? In Fireworks you simply draw a shape with the marquee tool, hit Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, and the pixel selection is copied. How can I do this in Affinity? The help file doesn't seem to explain this. Thanks
  16. Where are the icons for copy, paste and save please? I would like them on the top left of my screen instead of having to use CTRL C, CTRL V and CTRL S. These is a normal windows icons and whilst I love keyboard shortcuts sometimes it is faster to use icons when working with pictures using my mouse, Many thanks in advance, Marilyn
  17. This may seem a stupid question but I am used to the idea of drawing a selection box round part of an image and hitting command-C or command to copy and then command-V to paste a section of the image somewhere else on the same image or on another one - that works in Photoshop. When I try to do this in Affinity Photo (working on a PDF image), after drawing a selection box, both Cut and Copy are greyed out in the Edit menu and using the keyboard shortcuts has no effect. I do this all the time in Photoshop with newspaper cuttings, using copy and paste to fit the page header with the name of the newspaper and publication date, which typically spans four or more columns, above the single column cutting. How can I copy part of an image in Affinity Photo?
  18. Hi, I'm doing sketches on garments and trying to sort out how to easily select and copy a part of a outline. Let's say I want to copy the neckline shape on the garment in the picture below, to add a top stitch around the neck hole but I don't want to re-draw it, I just want a copy of the neckline shape to make a dashed line to illustrate a stitching. ( I have no problem with dash lines, only copying). In illustrator I could easily select single lines on a object and drag a copy of selected lines, but on Affinity I don't know how to do this and it slows down the work a lot.
  19. I have an image where some parts need sharpening and some parts need denoising or smoothing. The obvious way to do this is to create a mask that divides the image into these two component parts. No problem, I create an edge mask as a new layer and refine it appropriately. I could now duplicate my original image and sharpen one version (using Nik Sharpener) and denoise the other using Nik DFine. The mask should now be able to ensure that what I see is partly sharpened and partly denoised. But I cannot see how I can place the mask I have created to perform this task. I Because sharpening and denoising are fairly subtle, I have been practicing on an an image and a desaturated version, and a layer comprising several vertical black-and-white stripes so that I should be able to see a fairly obvious mask effect. I have tried following various videos and on-line guides typically involving moving the stripy mask into a position on one of the layers, but what I see is always either the stripy mask or no effect at all. The image below shows what I see before trying to place the mask. Any advice gratefully received. John
  20. In this tutorial I will demonstrate the option Copy items as SVG in Affinity Designer 1.6.0. I use this function often to animate SVG with CSS keyframe animations and some JS in HTML. Just like this example which is a GIF (SVG is not allowed because of it's security issue). You can watch the original SVG file here. Keep on drawin' Norbert
  21. Hi guys, I stumbled upon a bit of a bug. For example I have an Outer Shadow effect on an object. If I copy and paste that FX to another object, the values of the Outer Shadow from the parent object to the child object don't match. Cheers, Chris
  22. Today I learned that pasting elements between Designer documents with different resolution results on different object size. This is a normal behavior on bitmap software, like Photo or Photoshop, because they work with pure pixels and must adapt to the number of pixels the pasted image has upon the resolution, but is a complete hassle on vector apps like Designer, where the key is that you usually design on physical objet size, independently of resolution. This is specially hard when you are working with exact measures, like packaging or any technical illustration. I suggest three possible solutions A: Document or application setting to allow users to select their preference on copy pasting. B: Let the app auto select the pasting behavior based on the measure unit for the documents. (Preference to resolution if pixels unit, or preference to real size if a measure unit is selected) C: Special paste command for "paste preserving size" Hope I'm not the only one finding this important on his workflow. cheers!
  23. Hello I just noticed that I copy something from document A to B and this something change size when I paste it. Both documents are of the same size. Am I doing something wrong? Some option that I need to change or something? Thanks (affinity windows)
  24. Windows 10, x64 With "snap to whole pixels" option turned on: 1. Create a rectangle, select it, press and hold ALT and drag the cursor to copy the rectangle RESULT: new rectangle does not snap to whole pixels EXPECTED: new rectangle should snap to whole pixels. 2. Create a rectangle, select it, press ALT, release it and keep dragging the cursor to copy the rectangle RESULT: new rectangle snaps to whole pixels. EXPECTED: the same Shouldn't items that are created by ALT-drag snap to pixels? I think that they should.
  25. Hi to everyone, I'd like to know from you if you experience this bug: When I try to copy an image from a document to another, Affinity Photo gets stuck and the rainbow wheel on mac appears. I experience this immediately after i click CMD+C to copy the layer/whole image. The only thing to do is to force quit and reopen but of course I lose all my progress. This bug occurs even when I try to copy a small image (<1MB) from a document to another. Sometimes if I wait around 20-30 seconds, the rainbow wheel disappears and affinity let me paste the image whenever I want. Affinity Photo on Mac, High Sierra Mac OS. Thanks to all
