  1. Hi all Just wondering what drawing tablets are best for affinity and which ones do people generally use? Getting muscular issues by constantly using my mouse so thinking about getting more comfortable equipment! Suggestions are very welcome. Cheers!
  2. Hello I just wanted to make a clean thread asking for backward compatible files between v2 and v1 of programs. I didn't had any reason to need it till now but now I do notice what a big problem it is. First of all now that the summer time that I have most of my workload I did noticed problems with designer v2 performance and I wished to move back on v1 till it is fixed, but nope. I can't open v2 files, I need to do workarounds with sketchy imports. Second, I wanted to work on my macbook from home so I tried to get the designer v2 trial there to see what's up, but nope OS not supported so it can only use v1. But I use v2 on workstation and this is another roadblock. So yeah dear Serif, please we need backward compatibility. It is understandable that there is tools that are simple not available on v1 but this can be bypassed by automatically converting to curves whatever is not gonna work and display a warning of losing the editability of some objects if the file is saved with the older program version. Thanks
  3. Hey everyone, This is a bit niche and I have not checked if a topic like this already exists. What I'm looking for is a compatibility guide with workarounds for creating macros. For the past few days I have been trying to create macros but keep getting stuck because its so unbelievably cumbersome. One big PIA is the level selection. It’s a mess with all its confirmation prompts – just select the damn level I clicked on already! Anyway, I already got used to that by now, that’s not the issue. These two are my current questions, and I haven’t found a solution for it, maybe some of you have ideas? Creating a fill layer and changing its colour It's just not possible, you'll get this warning and the colour will be reset: Select all (as in an unspecified number) layers (to group them or similar) There's no keyboard shortcut or menu item that does this, as far as I know. Anyway, for some reason I didn't notice the option in the menu. It even has a shortcut! 🤦‍♂️ Solution: Select → Select all Layers or ⌥⌘A Do you have similar questions? Is there maybe already a place where questions like these get asked and answered? Does someone know how to get these operations to work or how to work around them? Have a nice weekend Dennis
  4. Hello, I am building my CV/Resume in Publisher and when exported as a PDF, it doesn't seem to matter which format I choose (Print, Digital, for export…) or the compatibility version (1.7, 1.6, 1.4…), once loaded into an applicant tracking software (ATS) scanner, like https://cultivatedculture.com/resume-scanner/ for instance, the text is not properly extracted and so the match between my CV and the job offer is pretty low (of course). The only reason that I found could be that the encoding software used by Affinity is incompatible, somehow, with this ATS technology. Indeed, once I upload my Affinity PDF into PDF Reader Pro Lite and save it as another PDF, the encoding software in the file info (cmd+i) changes from "PDFlib+PDI 9.2.1-j (macOS (x86_64))" for the Affinity file to "macOS version 12.6.1 (Build 21G217) Quartz PDFContext" for the PDF Reader Pro Lite file, which is read by the ATS scanner. The "Version" in the file info also changes from 1.7 to 1.4; but as I said, it doesn't matter as I've also tried to export it as a 1.4 file with Affinity Publisher to no more success. Does anyone know why this happens, if there is a way to fix this in Affinity, and if Serif is aware of this problem? P.S.: I attach the files in case people want to dig this issue. 5. I am finally considering buying Affinity after continuing to use CS4 on an older laptop with 10.10. I am looking for a universal solution that can work on three laptops - that 10.10 one, one with 10.12, and one with 10.15. V2 only works on 10.15 and newer, but V1 works on 10.10 and 10.12. If I buy the universal license, can I use it with V2 and V1, or do I also have to buy V1, making this an overall more expensive purchase. I also realize that there is no backwards compatibility from V2 to V1 (like you can with Adobe products by saving down), which may be a problem, but you can save up from V1 to V2. I was hoping this would be a logical replacement for my Adobe products, especially photoshop, but now I am not as sure.
  6. Since one of the most recent updates there is a lot of unnecessary low-res rendering going on when Affinity Designer vector objects are copied. Earlier, some of these issues could be fixed by pasting into Preview and copying from there but now there is no fix other than exporting to a bitmap. Please fix soon, this is incredibly annoying.
  7. Hi - we have a design team at work for a community publication. Some are Mac users, and some are Windows users. Can Affinity designer files created on one platform be used on the other? Meaning, is there any cross-platform compatibity between the Windows and Mac versions of Affinity designer?
  8. I have a Ugee pen tablet (UG-2150), and I'm pretty bummed with the issues I've been having with it. Yesterday, the pen stopped working all together. As I tried updating the drivers, I was told that there is no tablet connected. And this stinks, because I have a lot drawings I need to do. The monitor is working, but the pen is not. I finally decided to leave Ugee, and I am considering perhaps getting a Huion instead. For my workflow, I am interested in getting a pen tablet monitor, not a graphic tablet. Of course, I searched the forum for similar issues, but before considering this purchase, does any know how a Huion pen tablet monitor works with the Affinity products? Affinity Designer is the main program I use. It would be horrible to see if there are compatibility issues.
  9. Dearest Affinity Team! I am actually very surprised that such a toll - the Dial thing of the Lenovo Yoga A940 - is not compatible with the software. Did I miss a setup thing - I did enable Dial in Preferences? Or is it up to Lenovo to make it work together with Affinity softwares? Thanks for the work you have done. These softwares are amazing with or without a Dial funcionality!
  10. Hello and greetings. I got a strange problem, when I finish editing my pictures in affinity photo and export them, to forward them to friends on my android phone, I can't see them on my phone. (Galaxy A3, Android 8.0) I use the JPG format for exporting, since this seems to be the usual format for this kind of device. I tried different resolutions, DPI settings, changed the pixel format and the ICC profile, but nothing seems to work. The profiles which I used, where Adobe RGB (1998), Pro Photo RGB and srgb iec61966-2.1. The last one is displayed in the info from the pictures of my phone cam, so I hoped it will work, yet it didn't. Final workaround for now was to use a JPG picture from my phone and to copy and paste the desired picture in to that file, just too few and send it with my phone. It worked but this can't be a solution! Another point which may be vital, was the transfer from Adobe Lightroom. I used the “external editing” option in Lightroom to send the RAW files to affinity photo. The settings which I used for the formatting process where: tiff, ProPhoto RGB, 16 bit depth, 300 dpi, no compression. Question is, how do I make these exported JPG pictures visible and usable in my android phone gallery? I hope someone understands my problem and has a better solution.
  11. Is it possible to open Adobe Illustrator (AI) files in Affinity Designer that were not saved with the "Create PDF Compatible File" option? If this is possible, please let me know how. You can view a screen recording of my attempt at this Dropbox link (or view attached video). After ditching and deleting all things Adobe, I am unable to go back & re-save the file as such. Any info/help would be appreciated. Thanks. Unsupported_AI_File.mov
  12. Nik Collection just prompted me to install an upgrade to version 2.3.0.0. I am on Affinity Photo 1.7.3 and I want to avoid another disaster like what we experienced about a year ago with Nik just bombing on Affinity Photo. That was only changed when the finger pointing and shoulder shrugging caused a user community sh*t storm. However, I don't have time for the same thing this time around. Can anybody tell me if this is compatible BEFORE I install the upgrade, please? If it is not compatible, when can we expect it to be? Thanks. PS. I am on Mac OS Catalina.
  13. On the Affinity Photo fot iPad specs site, the new 10.2 iPad (2019) model isn't listed – is this hardware supported? (using iPad Pro myself for Affinity Photo, but I'm about to purchase 10.2 for my daughter)
  14. Apple wants way too much for the Apple Pencil. (Stylus) There are quite a few aftermarket options; has anyone tried any with Affinity for compatibility? If so, which make and models did you have success with?
  15. Hello Serif Staff, I am currently looking into purchasing a new desktop computer, more specifically an iMac 21.5 inch With Retina 4k Display. My question goes as follows before I make a purchase: What iOS version does the Affinity suite (Photo, Designer and Publisher) require to run on an Apple machine? Is the Affinity suite compatible with Mac Pro "Six Core" 3.5 (Late 2013)3.5 GHz 6 Core Xeon E5-1650v2? Will the Affinity suite upgrades be compatible with a Mac Pro "Six Core" 3.5 (Late 2013)3.5 GHz 6 Core Xeon E5-1650v2? What specifications do I need to know before I settle on a permanent purchase? I have ruled any Windows software out of the equation for my investment, and as soon as I have an answer, I plan on purchasing all three desktop in one go. I currently run the mobile app on an iPad (6th Gen). Thank you for your responses.
  16. Hello All, Im having a difficult time with brush selection. How can I copy pixel brush styles to the vector brush styles? Additionally, when editing between vector brushes and pixel brushes. It is inherently impossible to figure out as the user that vector and pixel brushes carry the same functionality. Since navigating between vector and pixel personas, do carry some functionally with the same tools. It would help if the assistant or some message displays that there is some limitations when trying to make a change to a shape with the wrong brush option. I mean, color, stroke and fill all seem to work across personas and do not require an additional gui to display to change properties. Thanks,
  17. Hello, I have a pretty annoying problem with StudioLink... So I have the three Affinity apps on Windows (no Beta version, I bought all of these), but when I go into Publisher then I click on the Designer Persona button in the top left corner, it displays that: I can't switch into the Designer Persona, just as if it wasn't on my PC... Note: My apps are up-to-date and I've already launched them at least once. They're in the default installation folder which is defined during their setup. Do you have any clue? Thank you!
  18. Hi guys, i tried opening a complex Photoshop file which basically is a resume organized in 4 pages with multiple layers each. The file is definitely big (300mb) but the problem seems to have to do with compatibility between the file created in Photoshop and how AP will manage the same objects. In particular, there’s a smart object in PS which is a photo that should be visible only as a portion covered by shapes in other layers. Unfortunately the photo is not visible at all unless i re-organize the layers but obviously that brings to losing the original order of layers and the picture is totally visible instead of being shown as a portion only. In PS everything is working perfectly.
  19. Hey, just a quick question. There are some mobile laptops/tablets that support being on a 4G LTE network but run using an ARM-based processor. Are there any plans to have Affinity Photo and Designer be compatible with that type of processor since it is more mobile than a typical laptop?
  20. I've been using Affinity Designer and really enjoyed it. The problem is that I am unable to create usable files. The kind of work that I do requires a layer of grouped die lines to be placed over a layer of art. The manufacturers I work with need to be able to rearrange the dies and corresponding artwork. The manufacturers all use Illustrator. When I export files as .PDF or .EPS, they open in Illustrator with every piece grouped together, in a single layer, within a clipping path. I can't submit files like that. SVG's preserve the layer structure, within another layer, but the dimensions are way off. To be fair, I am aware that these problems are not unique to AD. I've tried separating out the layers in Inkscape with the same result. Another colleague creates his die lines in AutoCAD, but still uses Illustrator to set up files for output. Is there a legal reason for this lack of compatibility? If so, how come SVG's almost work? Is there some sort of workaround? Any plan to change this? I think anyone who works with die lines; packaging, for example, would have the same issue.
  21. I have Affinity Design and Affinity Photo in Win10. For portability, I want to buy AD and AP for a new Ipad, that I need to choose and buy soon. My main use of the Ipad will be to use the Affinity software. I need to choose between the new Ipad Pro 11 inch or 12.9 inch (with the new pen). But I noticed that in your compatibility list the new 11 inch Ipad is missing. 11 inch will be a bad choice? The 12.9 inch will be better to use AD and AP?
  22. A rather unexpected bad surprise for me on this! I was dismayed (after the facts) to see the huge file produced by Affinity Photo. I performed a search, didn't get an answer... Has no one raised questions about this so far? I did nothing weird or special that I am aware of, processed a Fujifilm X-Pro1 raw file to the best of my liking as I usually do with ACR. If nothing more than that, I stop there and just keep the raw and the XMP sidecar, about 26MB (for the example given). If I need to keep a PSD for whatever reason, I open Photoshop. If only for editing there, when finished I save as PSD: 96MB or so with only one layer. It can become much more when adding layers, or convert to smart object before launching a NIK plugin for instance, but that´s not the issue here. My grief is about what usually is ´only´ a 96MB PSD file (almost 4x the raw´s size already!). So I processed a sample first in ACR. I did not need to open it in Photoshop, but for the sake of the comparison I did. Ended with a 96MB file as expected. I then launched Affinity Photo with the intention to produce more or less the same result. I ended with a 218MB (!) AFPHOTO file. I didn't see anything special at all. So I did nothing else, exported the same as PSD to see what that would give. Shocking result there: 293MB file for the single one background layer!!! Just to make sure (I don´t know what could be hidden), I tried flattening before export, no change; also merge visible layer, same result as well. In fact, I suppose these did nothing a all, rightfully so. I have about 25,000 photographs, the vast majority only saved as raw + sidecar. That takes about 600GB on a 2TB external HD right now. There also is a 3TB TimeMachine for them and my internal HD... So I was thinking: if I need to organise more than 8 times the current diskspace used for the images alone (or worse), the comparison with Photoshop becomes quite a bit different, on the expenses involved alone. Imagine: for the same comfort and setup as I have now, I would need at least 16TB. Not to mention another even larger system for TimeMachine as well! I wonder, are the developers aware of this? If so, also working on it? I am now a bit afraid of comparing a picture from a 38MB raw file (my other current camera, an older DSLR).
  23. Hi Serif I've been using Pageplus more or less since it was born. I have been loyal to Serif & recommended it to many friends. When all Affinity products are eventually integrated, you deserve to wipe Adobe [arrogant & unhelpful] & MS Publisher [counter intuitive] off the map. However, many of us have lots of .ppp files, Pageplus logos, etc. It would be a major mistake if Pageplus files, logos etc were not supported to import into the final version of Affinity Publisher. I note you have now closed that thread. I hope your programmers are even now working on including this in the program or as a plugin.
  24. There is a jubilee on Design Cuts. They sell a logo creation kit: Essential Branding & Identity Kit for Photoshop and Illustrator which says: there are also png files, that should work, I think. Maybe it is also a general question regarding Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Illustrator CS4 Thanks for help.
  25. So I just downloaded the Beta version of Publisher only to discover that unlike A. Designer and Photo that can open .eps and all image formats, this is totally incompatible with indesign files, which sort of defeats the point of having an alternative that not only exports but also allows you to open files from similar programs. Now I am aware that this is the beta version and there's a lot of work behind it but, is there any way to make indesign files compatible? I always work with templates I get form places like creative market and it is fair to assume that the world is not going to start producing templates specifically for APublisher any time soon, so any ideas?
