  1. I am trying to stretch my Affinity skills a bit but following along with a Brandon Woelfel photo tutorial. The photo began looking different from the video right off the bat, with the Temperature adjustments. my main issue so far is that when the video changes the color channels to bring out a more teal color my whole photo just looks ugly and blue. it seems PS just has a much better and more specific HSL adjustment tool, is the true? Please help. I have attached the tutorials picture and mine in the same step making adjustments in HSL, Please help!! Here is the video. I just took a screen shot of the original to work along with the video.
  2. I can't get Affinity Designer to show white as white. Instead it shows it as yellow/beige. I thought this may have been because the first time I ran it I had f.lux running, but since then I've uninstalled and reinstalled and run without f.lux, and the problem is still there. Images export as white, but on screen things look yellow. I've attached an image showing the app and the exported image side by side. I've tried different colour spaces (currently using the default sRGB profile), but nothing has worked. Please help! Thank you!
  3. I've done some mono to colour in the past, but I've only recently begun to try it in AP. I scanned some old family photos a few years ago, and these two are of my grandfather and father (he's the younger one!) taken about 1949 or 1950, when Dad got his call-up. Granddad was a Special Police Constable, and they must have been showing off their uniforms. I'm pretty sure they were taken on Dad's camera. Anyway, to business -- I've reduced the images after recolouring, which cuts down the noise somewhat. The left-hand photo didn't look natural enough, so I tried Filters>Colors>Auto... (all four) and got the result on the right, which looks a bit more natural. Didn't work on Granddad though! I used a separate pixel layer for each colour, trying different combinations of blend mode and transparency till I was satisfied. Dad's eyes are a little stark, and there are some hard edges which need softening up ... but I'm still on the learning curve, and any constructive criticism will be welcome.
  4. Hello This is my first post here. I just bought Affinity Photo for iPad and the first thing I tried to do I can't seem to do. I want to use a brush and select a color from the photo. I have the brush tool and see the color picker but cannot see a way of getting the color from the photo. Also I have no idea what the little circular tools are next to the color picker. Is there a manual? Cheers. Martin
  5. I have found that the Photo colour picker when clicked on with a Wacom Intuos 3 pen with latest driver selects a new colour alright but switches to black as soon as the pen is returned to the canvas. If the colour picker is removed from its dock and placed elsewhere on the screen or on a second monitor it works as expected. The pen is also rather laggy compared with using a mouse or Magic Trackpad. I've tried adjusting the Wacom preferences but has made no difference. Not a huge problem but I guess one that could be fixed. Great App otherwise.
  6. Hi everyone, I have 2 problems with Affinity Photo. 1) When I use curves adjustment in photo persona, after making blacks "fade" on image appears pixel issue form picture 001. 2) After picking Selective Colour image look like after posterise adjustment - picture 002. Can anyone help me with this - I don't know if this is my falut or a software issue.
  7. When I start a new document with a non transparent background the BG is shown in white ... when adding a pixel layer now BG is shown white but the thumbnail shows the BG in black (or similar). Is this a bug? From my understanding unless the BG is NOT transparent there needs to be some kind of BG colour (and consequently some kind of "layer" containing this colour). Even if only a textlayer is applied the BG is exported as shown (white). Is it some kind of imaginative BG that still is exported but can't be edited nor it is shown in the layers list and where I can't choose the colour of? This seems not easy to understand and somehow inconsistent to me. Maybe I did not fully understand the concept? Cheers, Timo (latest Beta)
  8. Looking to upgrdade my graphics card, and seeking to establish which cards are compatible with Affinity that will offer a 10-bpp display. I know Photoshop has a real compatibility issue regards displaying in full colour 10-bits per pixel with anything other than Quadro or Firepro cards which are a tad expensive if you want one capable of running the odd game or two. I am looking at something like the RX580, or the GTX 1060 - both of which I understand offer full 10-bit displays. Neither of them will offer 10-bit in Photoshop. Question is, will they offer 10-bpp in Affinity? Does Affinity actually have a list of 'recommended / supported' cards? i5 4670 16GB Hyperx Fury (possibly looking to bump this up to 32 in the near future) GA-Z87 Motherboard XFX GA 7870 Graphics card 2GB [which will be replaced imminently!] Dell Ultrasharp UP2516D 2560x1440 [100% Adobe RGB, 100% sRGB] Thanks in advance,
  9. Hi, finally the moment has come that I have to ask for your help. Untill now I have always managed not to take your time, but now I am simply stuck. I am trying to make an HDR using 3 perfectly aligned photos of different exposures... Ususally I have no problem in doing that but in this case the result is terribly "posterised". Below are the source photos, and two results - one with all merge options unchecked and one with all options checked (by options I mean "align" and "remove ghosts" etc.). Does anyone have any idea of what might be causing such behaviour?
  10. This question hasn't been asked since mid 2016 so I thought I would ask again mid 2017. Can we select same fill and stroke colour in Designer like you can in illustrator. This is a pretty important feature in my opinion, one that I use on pretty much every file I work on. Thanks.
  11. Is there a way to keep a swatch name when creating a palette from a document, All colours that are created have the document file name followed by a number, Not easy to identify when colours are similar to each other.
  12. Will Affinity Photo and/or Affinity Designer be able to use the new color fonts that are starting to become available? So far they only work in Photoshop CC 2017. https://www.colorfonts.wtf
  13. Hello, I am fairly new to Affinity photo. I have taken a number of photos and need to edit, however when I open them up in Affinity photo the colour is dulled. I have checked and it is set up in RGB format. Any ideas how I can fix? I have attached a comparison from when I open up normally in the standard picture viewer. Thanks.
  14. How do you change text color? I've selected the text and am hunting for something to give me new colour options for the text, and something to apply it. Thanks

    Bug on CMYK slider

I'm having a issue with the sliders when selecting CMYK on Colour window The box covers the sliders and I can't find a way to fix this. Is there a fix? My OS version is 10.11.6
  16. Just a wild, crazy thought... why do paragraph and character have to be separate panels at all? Can't we have just one single, long panel with all text settings together. We could call it "Typography". If I'm editing text, I inevitably have both panels open at the same time anyway and it will remove some redundancy. Here's what I'm thinking: The same thing with colour and swatch panels. I also always have both of them open at the same time so they might as well be in the same panel like this... (Note the pull down menu for choosing different swatch display styles – small icon, big icon, list view etc. Just a little idea thrown in for good measure) Since your roadmap includes multiple fills and strokes, perhaps strokes & fills should also be crammed into 1 panel. I'm worried you're going to take Illustrator's approach to multiple fills & strokes... 1 panel for stroke 1 panel for fill 1 panel to list them to define which you have selected. and another panel for for effects, just for good measure?
  17. It's been a while, but it seems to me that in the MegaCompetition's apps, if you pressed D, you got a default black stroke & white fill. Is there any equivalent, or other shortcut strategy, to accomplish this in Designer? thanks in advance, - pbass
  18. What are color fonts? They are the next big thing in graphic designThey bring multiple colors, shades, textures and transparency to type They include vector shapes, bitmap images or even both into font filesAnything I write here, would just be copying from this website, http://www.colorfonts.wtf/ Have a read through it, then decide if you want colour fonts. I know, that I want it!

    Colour Issue

Hi guys I'm having an issue with colours in Affinity Designer. Despite entering the correct HEX code into the 'Colour Chooser', the colour always displays lighter than it should (higher saturation?). Example attached. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for your help. Adam
  20. Hello community, thanks for the possibility to take part here. Trying to figure out how "selecting by colour" works, i am not able to find the solution. Does anybody perhaps know how to do it? Similar to the Illustrator function "Select ... same colour". It would b nice if someone could help. Greetings from Berlin :)
  21. Very, very easy one! In photoshop you can click D and it sets the foreground/background colours to black and white. Useful if you've been painting in another colour and you want to do mask work. If you wanted to go an extra step, you could allow setting of a range of fg/bg colour pairs that can be selected/rotated.
  22. Hi there, I usually solely work with sRGB IEC61966-2.1 but unfortunately the exports looked like crap, so I tried every installed ICC profile and realised that the profile that the exported picture looks alike is the Samsung Natural Color Pro. I thus checked all the settings, converted the ICC to sRGB again, set it manually in the exporter but it still didnt work - it kept exporting with the Samsung profile. In the end the only solution I could find was to convert to the Samsung profile and, additionally, set it manually in the exporter instead of using document profile. This does not seem to be a solution on the long term. Maybe someone else has made similar experiences and can confirm this bug. Many thanks!
  23. The Background colour sliders in the Character panel will not update as you change the colour, see attached image to better understand what I mean. If the popup is closed and opened again the correct colour will show. Thanks!
  24. The spot colour indicator should have a black line around it so it can be seen with lighter colours. The help section shows it correctly, but Affinity itself doesn't. Please see attached image. Thanks!
  25. It would be a welcome addition if we could make a swatch based on another swatch, not unlike Sass (https://robots.thoughtbot.com/controlling-color-with-sass-color-functions). In interfaces for example, I could create a green button with a darker green border. The darker green would be based on the original green and have the same hue and saturation, but the lightness would differ. That way, if I later change my mind and want to make all green buttons blue, the dark border would shift along. I'm looking forward to your thoughts!
