  1. Hi everybody, can someone explain please how can I do inverse clipping? What I mean is for example if I have a circle on top of a square and I want to cut the part of the circle that's inside the square and be left with the square and the part of the circle that's outside the square as two different shapes.
  2. Hello! I am trying to recreate the Photoshop feature "Create clipping mask". When I go to the help section in the program it self it won't load any links... Is there a tutorial anywhere on how to do this? Thanks, Paul :)
  3. Hello everyone, I am new here and I heard quite a lot about Affinity Designer. I am thinking of getting a Mac mainly for that program. I just want to become more familiar with how the layers work as there are only two things right now I'm a little confused about. 1. From the different video tutorials I've watched, the structure of the layers appear differently for each video. There are two different structures. Here, each layer can be expanded and show the paths within the layer (which I'm use to.) But then here, when the man creates a new document, each path is it's own layer. So how does this work? How can there be two different structures? 2. I know this bends the rules of vector designing, but I don't always draw in closed paths. As a cartoon character designer, I prefer to draw more freely. So my question is, seeing how there is a pixel persona and the option to clip layers, is there a way to use the bucket tool to fill in overlapping paths done with vectors (fingers crossed)?
  4. When using a curve masked to a specific area to adjust the brightness values of skin tones this causes the saturation values to increase, so it is necessary clip a HSL desaturation adjustment to it to bring the values back in line. I have tried every combination of clipping and masking these two adjustment layers together with no success. In PS this is the core of beauty photography retouching. Passing the adjustment down through clipping is a standard behavior of adjustment layers clipped to another adjustment layer with mask. Here are screenshots with all the attempts in the layer tabs as well as the Ps example. If there is a workaround please let me know. Thanks Kyle
  5. Hello everyone, Are there plans to implement a preview of the clip (display areas 100% white and black areas) in black and white photo ? Thank you.
  6. Hi! Just a basic question. Could I use the Pen tool to make a silhouette for clipping an image, and export the image with the cutout of the silhouette to EPS or native format to place in on another application to be able to change the background every time I want? An example could be a frog with the moon as a background.
  7. Hey, I asked this question a while ago in the adobe forum, but I never got a reply. So I'll try my luck here. I'd like to have a feature to "apply" clipping groups. Let's take several shapes and combine them into a clipping group (see attachments 1 & 2). The apply operation would have the following result: -children which are actually intersecting with the clipping path are intersected (standard boolean operation) --children which are not available for intersect-operations remain in the clipping group -children outside the clipping path are deleted -children completely inside the path will remain unaffected It would be a great feature, especially when you decide to clip whole artworks or cutting them apart. ~Andrej
  8. When importing an SVG file which contains a clipPath element, AD ignores the clipping path and displays objects that extend outside the clipping path. This image shows what such a graphic looks like in AD (the bottom star should be cut off at the border with the green stripe but is not): Here is what it is supposed to look like: I wish I could show you the SVG original, but the forum refuses to upload it. 9. Masks do not work on an object and it's effects as a whole. For example, say you have a doughnut shaped vector (like an "O") and you want to add a drop shadow that only appears within the doughnut's hole; so you add the outer shadow effect to the doughnut and make an oval (without a hole) that fits perfectly on top of the doughnut and that use it as a mask on the doughnut. But, instead of cutting out the drop shadow that lies outside of the mask, the effect now acts on the mask and object as a whole. This might be an easier way of explaining it: What is should be: (object + fx) - mask What it's doing: (object - mask) + fx Hope that makes sense.
  10. Hello ! Nothing prevents us from using the two methods , this is what we'll see in this exercise:
  11. Hello, I have downloaded the trial version and have to say it is very nice. I loaded my current tvOS projects character SVG which has about 110 frames of character animations. Each frame comprised of about 30 elements. So a good test to compare to Inkscape 0.91 for performance. System is fairly maxed out 2011 iMac. Pros: Wow it is fast and scrolls in and out so smoothly Using the same keyboard shortcuts as the rest of OSX is nice as well Near perfect import of the test SVG (see cons for issues) Easy to use so far Awesome export options Cons: Clipped & Masked items in the test SVG did not import clipped or masked. This is actually quite a mess to have to clean up by hand. Color picker eye dropper was not nearly as intuitive to use as pretty much any other apps I have used. The click & hold then move selection area to color felt very awkward. Much prefer the select tool then move to area and click on color desired style eye dropper tools. Not so happy with the path node tools either. Enjoy having control arms on all three types of control nodes in Inkscape. Questions: 1. Is there something I am missing to fix the problem with Clipped elements on SVG import? I use this technique often in Inkscape so getting this right on import is important. Just to much work to fix it all by hand on every image and if I can't bring in all my old art it negates the value of moving to AD from Inkscape. 2. Is there a way to get a color picker that works more in line with the select object, select tool, select color (like inkscape) with out the need for the click/hold/drag AD uses? Being new I bet I missing something here. 3. Path node control arms for all nodes types would be nice, so am I missing the obvious on how to get them to appear? 4. I know they keep this tool up to date so I will ask about PNG export without transparency (Alpha). Anyone that is developing for Apple knows that they have moved several items to no Alpha channel and that they prefer PNG format files. The latest is Image Stacks for tvOS apps require the back most layer to not have any Alpha. So could that becomes a PNG export option? I ask about PNG because it is easier to keep all images in the same format vice a mix of PNG and JPG files. Also right now Apples tool chain for image stacks is young and mixing PNG/JPG in the stack has resulted in fun and for me it being easier to use Preview to fix the alpha channel as required and stay all PNG files. 5. Speaking of tvOS will there be an Export option to create the Parallax Images (.lsr files) added at some point? I have an idea on this might be done. Special template with 1 to 5 layers (range that Apple's LSR format allows. The export option would export each layer into the LSR file (layer 1 being back most) and then counting up from there. It would sure be awesome to have something like this for AD given that Apple released a plugging for PhotoShop to do just this. Again great product. Loving the trial version. Besides the clipped and masked objects not importing correctly I am thinking this is a clear move from Inkscape for me. Look forward to hearing back. Matt
  12. Hi everyone, I am still learning so please forgive. Is there a way to un crop an image when you have changed your mind late in the editing process? I tried unclip but it has a sort of see through unprocessed section. If there is a way will the returned full size image incorporate the layers of adjustments that have been applied. I am referring to Affinity Photo. Thanks
  13. Hello, I very useful feature in Aperture (and other applications) is that it was able to show me areas of highlight clipping of a photo that were slightly blown out (as well as cold areas that were blacked out) In Aperture, there was a way to "recover" some of the details within these hot areas. I can't seem to find the equivalent feature in Affinity Photo (other that the highlight slider, but somehow does not provide me with the same results) Any suggestions/tips? Thanks
  14. Hi, Just starting out evaluating the AP trial against my current editor (PS CS6). Very impressed so far; hugely impressed with your work. I primarily use Curves and Levels adjustment masks in my work. Using a Levels adjustment mask in PS CS6 and adjusting the Black and White levels, I can see a full-image clipping indication mask if I hold down ALT while adjusting. This is a really helpful tool. Is there an equivalent for this in AP? I tried holding down ALT while adjusting black/white sliders but there was no effect. I also tried the other modifier keys (Shift, Cmd etc), but also no effect. I'm using AP Trial v1.3.5 on a late 2012 Mac Mini running OS X 10.10.5. Many thanks, Matt
  15. Hello everyone; Please forgive me if this has been already discussed; I didn't found any information in the forums. I'm currently getting used to AD in order to slowly make it my default vector design app. There are of course some features I need that are not implemented yet, but also there's a couple of things I've not figured how to perform and don't know if it possible at this point. This is one: I've noticed that there's a clipping tool in AD, so I can select an object, click on the tool, and then adjust its borders to the desired size. However, this tool always acts as a rectangle. ¿Is there any functionality similar to the 'make clipping mask' in the other-software-I-don't-want-to-mention? Let's say, to make a circular cut, or whatever path you can imagine. Many thanks. And congratulations for your work! Val
  16. I purchased AD few days ago, but still cannot figure how to release all clipping masks in imported PDF and select all objects with same fill, stroke, weight, opacity etc. like in Illustrator. And is there any tool similar to Live Paint Bucket? Thanks!
  17. Hi- I am new to affinity and loving it so far, I just have a super basic question. So I have a psd file which is a mockup of an iphone. I am trying to put my own image into the mockup, but I do not know how to drag the corners of my image to make it fit perfectly. Is there anyway to do this? Thanks!
  18. I thought I had a grasp on the differences, turns out I was completely wrong. I can't get any of them to behave in anyways that make any sense to me. Can someone articulate a 10,000 foot up view of these things, their benefits and their purposes, and their differences and talents?
