  1. I’ve shown one method to do this in my attached video (the text below isn’t a step-by-step guide, just notes on the video). “Enable Snapping” should be ON, “Snap to object bounding boxes” should be ON, and “Include Bounding box mid points” should be ON. Part A – The first circle If you are not using Designer, and therefore can’t use the Point Transform Tool, or you just want to do it quickly, then, instead of the instructions in this part, you can simply snap the left ‘side’ of circle B to the right ‘side’ of of circle A and then rotate all the circles to how you want them later. Draw a line from the centre of circle A to anywhere. Use the Node Tool to move the end of the line to get the angle you want. Use the Point Transform Tool to move and rotate circle B. Use the Point Transform Tool to translate circle B so that it touches circle A. Part B – The second circle The width of the first construction circle should be: width of circle A plus width of circle C. The width of the second construction circle should be: width of circle B plus width of circle C. If you aren’t using Designer (and can’t use the Point Transform Tool) you can draw a line from the intersection of the two construction circles (to anywhere, the end point doesn’t matter) and then use snapping with the Move Tool to drag circle C into place. Note: If you don't want circle B to be rotated after this then you can just double-click the rotation handle to reset it. Important: There may be tiny gaps between the circles but that’s because they aren’t perfect circles, and that’s because of the way the Affinity applications draw circles using bezier curves. I don’t think there’s anything we can do about this. 2024-02-04 08-50-06.mp4
  2. Greetings everyone! I've stumbled upon an unusual bug in Version 2.1.1. Here's the situation: I'm designing a four-pointed star-like shape by utilizing the negative space between four adjacent circles with the Shape Builder Tool. After that, I used the Corner Tool to give those sharp points some smooth rounded edges. At first glance, it's perfect. But when I attempt to mirror these particular stars the rounded edges unexpectedly revert. For context, I've mirrored other designs, like a random shape I created using the Pen Tool + Corner Tool, and they kept the rounded corners, like you'd expect. While I know there's the Star Tool for crafting similar stars, I firmly believe shapes like this created the shape builder tool should handle this as well. To be clear: I'd rather not bake or convert the rounded corners to nodes and keep them flexible/adaptable! For those who prefer visual explanations, here's a short clip to illustrate the problem. Corner_Tool_Bug.mp4 Maybe some of you might have faced and resolved this, or at least can confirm the bug? Any insights or solutions you can offer would be awesome! Here's my sample file, if you'd like to try. Corner_Tool_Bug.afdesign Thanks! Dennis
  3. hi there, how to get the exact length of a curve or the circumference of a circle in affinity designer?
  4. A friend sent me an AP file in which a dot had appeared near the bottom centre when exported to a PDF for print. Even after I had deleeted every item of text, every picture, that I could se from the leaflet, the spot remained stubbornly on the page in exactly the same place when expoterd to PDF. Has anyone experience this? And the solutioon? DAVID NORTHGATE FINAL A4 FOCUS.pdf
  5. Is there ever gonna be a quickshape like feature for Designer2 for iPad and Publisher2 for iPad? Not having a feature like that makes it harder to draw and make nice lines and nice circles. The stabilizer feature still isn't close enough to that. I know that there are features for picking a certain type of curve to use if you're drawing a curve or circle and we can fix each line and circle with dots in each line or circle in Designer. That just takes way more time to get the perfect line or circle by having to switch shapes, curve lines, and or edit the lines/curves. It would save everyone tons of time to just add auto line, curve, or circle maker option without having to change tools constantly. To be able to just draw a circle and hold the stylus down on the screen and make a circle and we can easily edit it after that. Same goes for curves and lines. So we don't have to edit a wonky line, curve, or circle. Which is i.m.o. more work than just editing a nice straight line, curve, or circle. I.m.o., that's why most people use Procreate instead of Affinity just for that reason. Affinity has tons of great features, but it's hard to use them or want to buy the program(s) for them if it means way more work to make nice lines, curves, and circles. Then a person is spending more time trying to get that correct. That's a big reason as to why a lot of people don't do digital art and why tons of people just get Procreate or Infinite Painter (can be used on iPad and Android tablets) just 'cause of the super ease of doing those things. If you guys can, please make a quickshape type version for Designer and Publisher. I have the version 2 lineup of iPad apps and I don't use them just 'cause I spend way too much time fixing the lines, curves, and circles. When I get that done much faster in Procreate. Procreate is lacking in a lot of features that Designer has, but quickshape feature in Procreate makes it worth skipping out on those features. A $70 one time fee for Designer isn't an expensive price. Though I feel like the price would be worth it compared to the $10 fee for Procreate if you guys have your own quickshape feature. Since your programs come with a lot of extra stuff that Procreate doesn't have.
  6. 1. Exporting rectangle with radius or circle to SVG, produces path element and not rect/circle with their's attributes. This, in case of multiple objects, creates a lot of unnecessary code = bigger size & heavier load & also a file, that has lost compatibility with (any) software, to edit afterwards. 2. I would also appreciate some support for adding "classes". Just to have some checkbox in SVG export panel like: Treat same layer names as "class" instead of "id" So as no to add numbers, if there are layers with the same name, but it would convert "id" export tag into "class". If the layer name would contain more words, it would add multiple classes. This would be a great help in creating SVGs that could be manipulated. Maybe also possibility to check on/off "ids" would be nice. Or even better would be to have just option for typing it into layer name such as "#idname .class1 .class2" and SVG exporter would handle the rest. 3. Last one would be to have a look at gradients. When there is one and the same gradient, it creates multiple <linearGradient> instances in <def> since it adds also longer gradientTransform attributes. I do understand, that Affinity uses specific coordinates for this (matrix), since gradient can be positioned outside of the object, but if not, and gradient tool is inside the edges of the object, this could be exported as a can be seen in reference manual on mozilla or example on this tool, just with x1/y1/x2/y2/rotation (etc. depending on gradient type used as can be seen in the tool mentioned). This would also make code more easier to read & edit & also more compatible. Thank you!
  7. Hi guys. I was recently working for one of my clients and we accidentally found out that power duplicate, or simply when I try to rotate objects or some curve around the circle, than the duplicated/rotated objects always miss the attachment points on the circle. I documented it in the screen recording down below. I am putting it in this Bug report thread because I couldn't find any solution for this. I even tried 360/X rotation instead of exact numbers, but it didn't help. Is there something I am missing here? I will be very glad for any help. Thanks. power duplicate.mov
  8. So I want to make pi spiral filling a circle like this. How can I do this? I tried to use circle and artistic text tool, but it didn't make a spiral like the picture.
  9. Hi, This is a two-part question really... 1. Does anyone know if you can make a brush stroke that is a straight line? 2. Also, is it possible to make a brush stroke follow a shape's outline (eg. a circle so that you paint along the circle's circumference) or along a path ? Thanks.
  10. Hi!! Would you please give me some advice? A lot of times when I am trying to create a circle, no matter what I do, it ends up looking like a 3rd grader did it. As you will see the spiral at the bottom of the first S, I just cannot get it to look any better than that! No matter what I do to make it look better, it ends up looking worse than this! Could you please share some suggestions? Thank you! Wilson
  11. Hi I would find it really helpful to be able to draw lines and circles that are tangent to either 1 or 2 existing circles. I have a link here that shows what I am talking about - it is a program called AutoCAD https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=autocad+snap+to+tangent&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b&gfe_rd=cr&dcr=0&ei=UpkJWsC7CebG8Aft1I-oAg#gfe_rd=cr&kpvalbx=1 Thanks Rob
  12. Designer was used in this video and I’m pretty sure that the same workflow can be followed in all the Affinity applications but you will have to use the relevant menu choices for the Geometry operations instead of the Designer toolbar buttons. Here’s a video showing you how you can make a tri-part circular logo like that in the attached image. If you try it yourself, make sure you select the correct shapes for each Geometry operation, otherwise things may go wrong quickly. You don’t need to add the shadow like I did if you don’t want a shadow. (I didn’t use the Inner Shadow Effect for the shadow as that ‘goes round the curve’ which doesn’t look right for this.) As you will see in the video, using a Symbol lets you make changes to the colours very quickly. (Only Designer has Symbols but you don’t need to use them if you’re using another Affinity application, just duplicate the groups instead of the symbols.) 2020-03-01_12-50-31.mp4
  13. Hello guys, I'm currently testing out the Affinity suite and I have to say, I'm fairly impressed so far. I'm really considering making the jump and say goodbye to Adobe. However, there are still some functionalities I use daily that are still missing. From what I've seen, the selection feature to include "Select > same > ..." is something people really want too. I really hope this will arrive soon. Anyway, I wanted to ask you guy if you knew how I coud do to put an ellipse at the center of a line ? I have multiple separate lines and need to put a small circle in the middle of each. On Illustrator, I'd just select a line, "select > same appearance" to select all the lines and "Convert to shape > ellipse". These 2 features don't seem to be available on Affinity. Any ideas how to do that ?
  14. When I try and add a stroke to a circle with a brush texture instead of a simple line, I always have this issue where it does not connect properly. I tried converting the ellipse to curves and I've tried many different brushes, none of this worked. It only works when a use a simple line as a stroke. I am having this issue in Affinity Design. I'm not sure if it is a problem in Affinity Photo. You can see at the top of the circle where this happens.
  15. If I have a circle, and I want to delete half of it - to create an arc (i.e. the circle is no longer closed), how can I do that ? :-) I've tried convert to curves, thinking this may stop it from closing. However every time I delete a point, a new curve is generated between the two open points. Any ideas ? Is there a check box somewhere to not close end points ? Thanks Gary
  16. Hello. You may have read my earlier question. I think that I'm going to abandon the monogram idea for now because I'm so picky. I'd like to create a logo with text above and below the horizontal axis of the circle but I don't know how to do it in Affinity Designer. Here's an image that might help to help you understand that it is that I'm going for. I can get the text above the horizontal axis but I'm having trouble getting it below the horizontal axis. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  17. Hi, Affinity community, Can you accurately size construction guides in the new beta? I'm running version 1.7.0.4 and as you can see in the attached image, drawing construction circles by hand is not accurate. I tried multiple times to align a construction circle with a circle and failed every single time. I feel like I should be able to adjust construction circle size through the Transform panel for pixel-perfect accuracy. Also, I cannot seem to find a way to resize or delete construction circles. Guides Manager doesn't even identify them, and the Backspace button doesn't do anything while the guide is selected. Shouldn't I be able to delete guides the same way I can delete any other objects? Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers, Rob
  18. Hello. I want to create a circle and the top half of the circle needs to be black and the bottom half of the circle needs to be another color. I'm using stroke since the inside of the circle will be white. Do I create two circles? What's the best practice? Thanks.
  19. Hello I want to make the text to write in a circle and not outside the circle, how can I do that? Here is the text outside the circle with using the text tool, I want it to be inside the circle (and as a result the text at the lower part to be read right and not be upside down), in illustrator I was dragging the symbol at the beginning of the path and pulled it inside the circle but I can't replicate this here.
  20. Hello, I would like the text centered at the top and bottom of a circular path.I adjusted the red/green arrows to the sides of the circle, highlighted the text, and selected "align center" for the text. This seems to be centered... is this accurate? Thanks! text center on path.afdesign
  21. Hi, I am designing a circular logo through affinity designer. I am having trouble removing the reset art board so that I can export my image just as the circle. I have been looking everywhere but I have not found a solution. I already set the background to transparent when I set up the document but it will not save without it. Essentially, I am wondering how to remove the background and save my design as a circle instead of also saving the white space background on the art board. Any help would be amazing I have been looking for so long and I am very frustrated! Thanks!
  22. I have a photo that includes several round balls. I want to select one of the balls, which is mostly round and I would like to use the 'Elliptical Marquee Tool' not the Selection Brush because I can 'see' the edges I want better than the Selection Brush. But I just don't get how to use the Elliptical selection tool. If I start a new selection at say point X, Y, the larger the selection, the more the 'top left' corner moves off of X,Y to a new position, X+a, Y+b. My selection ends up not aligning perfectly the ball. How do I micro adjust the selection to get the proper alignment? I don't have the 'balls' shot handy but assume this light is a ball and I want to very carefully select a round object. I don't understand why I can't start the circle at the top left edge or how to properly refine it later
  23. Hi all, More than likely very simple but has left me losing hours All I need to know is how to convert my text to a path so that I can for example place my text on a circle or arch... Many thanks in advance JP
  24. I've read the help pages and watched tutorials. I just can't seem to find how to correctly constrain a circle or square using the marquee tools (gesture with a second finger). Any help further explaining this would be appreciated. Please be detailed since the other help sources do not fully explain how to do this. Thanks.
  25. It would be nice a feature like AutoCAD POLAR ARRAY, so you can place object/selections around a specified point, or along a specified path. The essential options are : number of objects, angle between objects, radius of array, rotate objects ON/OFF. Thank you :)
