  1. I still see the workflow for RBGBA channel packing for game texture is still a nightmare and hasn't improved since v1, I thought this would be improved in v2 especially with the UI improvements. Please could you make it simple as photoshop where you can copy/paste from black and white layers into one of the RGB channels. Its soo much simpler to work with and selection of the channel was so much easier.
  2. So im trying to individually control rgba channels for a project and im running into an issue where if the alpha channel is fully transparent (0) then the pixels loose their rgb colour values, ideally id like them to maintain that colour information so I can still access it later on Running a few searching through google and the forums I am unable to find any information on this, any help would be greatly appreciated
  3. Hi, sometimes i have to prepare materials for specific print. Affinity Photo has VERY usefull channels view. I really need this in Publisher and Designer. channel viewer
  4. Good Morning, I have been looking for a way to create a Gaussian blur gradient. That is to say slightly blurred on one end of an object and progressively becoming more blurred toward the other end of the object. Specifically a shadow of an object (pole) composted into a photo. I have been told that there is a way to accomplish this in PhotoShop using a channel selection and applying a gradient to the selection. Is this possible with Affinity Photo? If so how. Thank you. 5. I am currently testing Photo right now as a viable replacement for Photoshop, after 24 years. Since I do game development, there is a very necessary feature that I need to use and can't find it in AP. In order to do some special texture creation, I would need to be able to turn RGB visibility on and off individually per layer or layer group. In Photoshop, in a layer's properties, you can turn off Green and Blue, for example, and have only the Red channel show for that layer (or layer group). Then, in another channel, only show the Green channel. In this way, texture maps can be created for use in 3D programs like 3ds Max, and in games for things like specular effects and normal maps for bumps. Also, I don't see a way to make adjustments to levels on a specific channel by selecting it and making the changes. I need to be able to see the grayscale of each channel as I'm tweaking it. This is especially important in specular and normal map creation for games. Hopefully, someone here has worked in game dev and knows what I am referring to. If I cannot control the RGB visibility and adjustments in layers and groups, then Affinity Photo will not work for what I am doing. I truly hope it's in there, and I just don't see it, or that maybe it's in the works for the next version. Thanks.
  6. Fun with Affinity Photo Channels Affinity Photo Tutorial. I have fun playing with channels. It’s a great way to get your creative juices flowing. This is number 34 of my Digitally Fearless Powerful Tools of Affinity playlist. https://youtu.be/xhBmfN4rOy4
  7. Alert: Experienced worker - but AP newbie : ) I want to use AP to edit multi-layer exr exports from a 3D CGI software. The EXR files typically contain up to 15 layers of information. Each of those layers contain full RGB data. When AP imports these files it: Treats the first layer as an RGB layer = 'Layer one (pixel)' Treats all the other layers as though they were individual colour channels, rather than composite RGB layers..., ie: Layer two [blue] (Pixel) Layer two [green] (Pixel) Layer two [red] (Pixel) So I end up with 43 layers, rather than 15... Two questions: 1. Is there a way for AP to interpret all these layers as RGB composite layers on import / open ? or, if not: 2. What is the most efficient way to take: Layer two [blue] (Pixel) Layer two [green] (Pixel) Layer two [red] (Pixel) and make it into: Layer two (Pixel) - ie, a full composite RGB layer. Thanks for any help.
  8. How copy for example R to G chabel etc in Affinity Photo desktop? i dont see menu selections what are earlier showed post in another thread (Sorry no link i tried found it again). Somehow when flatten project (I only added one these "colour brush strokes" what is available affinity page added. no avail but when flatten docuemnt i found them but i still can move tihs image element same thing for vector elements what i draw using program tools. earlier all goed single bitmap layer. Flatten seems work different way what done earlier. is mean work like this. of course i can keep such flatten such non moveable from using lock layers panel but.
  9. Ok so when i apply a alpha and save as .png all the color channel data in the area with alpha 0 is lost, is there a way to keep the other color channels intact or unaffected by the alpha channel?
  10. How do I copy and paste between channels? I would like to select one layer and copy it and paste to any channels [ Red, Blue, Green, Alpha] I need to do this from layers to channels and vice versa. Please take a look on screenshot.
  11. Hi, when I place an image that has one or more alpha channels (from Photoshop) in Publisher it will show the masked image. How can I avoid this and have Publisher show the entire image without deleting the channels in the original file? Is there a way or do I have to change all files? Thank you!
  12. HI, I have found two different ways to make "Luminosity masks" 1) Creating a b&w image and then duplicating It using "multiply" mode (recursively) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0rXKW5b9qM&t=333s 2) Selecting by luminosity the original layer and then duplicating it (recursively) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sIiNfSBnv0&feature=share Can someone explain the differences? Which one do you use? I would like to use one of them to create masks for exposures merging. Thank you
  13. It is well known that nodes can do everything about layers(ui). The layer cannot do some of the node's actions. Nodes are 100% compatible with layers(ui) and channels(ui). Make changes to the existing layer(ui) to make it nodey while maintaining compatibility with the original layer(ui). Adobe PS lacks even a true alpha channel(ui) because of its stale architecture. Nodeized Layer(node-ui) and channel(node-ui), affinity will have far more flexibility than PS. Adobe can never do that because of its stale architecture. This ensures an absolute lead in affinity. This node feature does not require a huge amount of new code, just changes to existing layer(ui). (I know that many(Affinity)programs are backends(Behind) based on nodes., so this is easier to do) It does not require changing the appearance of the existing layer(ui). Just provide an option to enable the advanced 3D multi-layer box node layer(node) channel(node) framework(ui). Reference implementation: https://natrongithub.github.io/ Natron (open source)
  14. I started searching for this issue, but there were too many results to find if this was already reported / asked. I did this: Ctrl+Alt+Shift+N for a new image from clipboard > Select Frame Text Tool > Select a color from the Font Color palette from the ribbon. With the new image still "selected" (from the New action), clicking the Font Color on the ribbon appears to change the Channel color (or overlay color, or something [I'm sorry, I'm not sure what to call it]), not the Font Color in preparation of typing text. Clicking off / unselecting the image, the color change does not happen. It only happens if the image is left selected from the New action. But I would think that clicking the Font Color button wouldn't effect the entire image like that. I'm not saying something is wrong, just want to confirm if this is acting the way it is expected. Thanks.
  15. Is it possible to rename spare channels in a macro? Thanks!
  16. In my job I work with PS retouching old book covers. In many case I work with channels and calculations (to mix channels I created). I wanna to make the same things with AP but I can't: In PS I do: 1) I copy a channel (example: red and rename it to "red copy"). 2) I select the recently created channel, double click and can work on it in grayscale (it appears on the viewport) and I just leave a black and white version. 3) When I finish I copy another channel (example blue channel and rename it to "blue copy"). 4) The same process. 5) After finishing the blue copy modifications I open the calculations dialog box. 6) I mix the "red copy" and "blue copy" and I get a new alpha channel 7) I use it to mask a zone in the original image. How can i do the same thing with AP? I bought the three Affinity apps and I very happy with them. I'm using the 1.7.1 version.
  17. I have an imaginary, but not uncommon situation. I need to prepare and output a 5 color print job for the print shop. CMYK + Pantone. Currently, while working in a CMYK document, when I select and use a Pantone color in the document, Photo separates the Pantone into the CMYK Composite Color channels. This is wrong. It would be correct and intuitive if Photo automatically recognized, that a Pantone color had been used, and created a new separate 5th channel - Composite Pantone channel. I would like to suggest this as a feature. I'm aware of the Honor Spot colors in the PDF output options. I'm not sure what it does. And I'm not sure at all if the document will image correctly to PDF for a Print Shop.
  18. Can save a selection as a channel. Subsequent selections will not be saved as another channel. Feature works as expected in Affinity Photo 1.6.7
  19. In Affinity Photo how can I copy a channel over another one? For example: I have color photo and I want to copy the red channel over the green channel. In other words, red and green channels should be identical. I tried making the layers editable, selecting all and copy/paste but it doesn't work. Or can that only be done through channel mixer? Can I copy a channel from another image that way? The reason I'd want to do this: I have a bracketed color photo and I'm trying to maximize detail by grabbing a single channel from one photo and pasting into another.
  20. There is this technique I want to replicate in Affinity Photo that can be done in Photoshop, but I can't get it to work in AP (see video link below). What I basically want to do is select all the pixels of an image from all the visible layers by using the Channels window, create a new layer, and then finally fill the entire selection with a single colour that has translated the shades of the selection into transparent pixels (i.e. pure white is 100% transparency, black is 0% transparency, and grey is everything in-between those extremes). Video link in question: https://youtu.be/WZOJqbSBPxI?t=7m1s
  21. Would be good if we could record the renaming of spare channels within a macro.
  22. Hello, I'm a game artist, and the main thing preventing me from switching from Photoshop to Affinity is that we use channels (R, G, B, A) differently than you probably expect. We basically need direct access to every channel (including alpha) as an individual editable, grey-scale image. Each channel holds distinct texture data that we feed to shaders. For example, I often need to tweak the levels on just the alpha channel, or invert just the R channel. This is doable in Affinity, but it is very cumbersome. In particular, the way that Alpha is always displayed as layer opacity makes it almost impossible to treat the alpha channel independently from R, G & B. Alpha often holds data that has nothing to do with layer transparency. To enable game artists to use Affinity, we need access to all of the channels and the ability individual manipulate them. Thanks! Ocean
  23. In Blend Options for an image in RGB, I can only choose Master, Red, Green and Blue to control blending. However in Curves I can work with LAB channels even if the main colorspace is not LAB. It would be very good to be able to choose LAB channels in Blend Options the same way. Color channels of LAB are fantastic to isolate an effect or adjustment to certain objects / areas of the image in a dynamic non-destructive way that masks can't reproduce.
  24. Masks, everybody has to do them, why not manage and utilise them in a meaningful way? We could bring in external masks/alphas paint grayscale layers or have selections saved as channels. We could bring them in as linked images or embed them to the document. Each time we create a new adjustment or filter layer we have to either go through the channels, create a selection from a channel or rasterise an existing grayscale layer to a mask. That's the inefficient time-vampire kind of way. How about letting us store and manage channels in a meaningful way? Example: I have a mask drawn and want to move on from it to recall later. I could right-click and select "Store as Single-Channel… > Select / New channel" or "Store as Multi-Channel" for additional RGBs like normals or object coordinates for relighting. (In the channels list RGB sets would be displayed as a channel group, users can also create channel groups, RGBs are just automatically generated for the user) When I need that selection in a tool, the tool would just have a dropdown menu listing all the available channels (incl. RGBA) and I could select the mask I've just made. If I make changes to that mask, all tools using that mask update automatically. No hassle, no extra time cost.
