  1. So... After a few trials and errors, I have the 3rd proof back from the printers. Ohhh My Strawberry Monkey started a little while back as single comic strips but felt it wasn't the right direction. So its turned into a Children's book (under 5's) it's aimed at pre-schoolers. There is so much more to the story and I'm sure I'll tell it one day. I wrote and put the book together in Affinity Designer and yes I'm looking forward to publisher, which no doubt would've helped but it worked. Anyway, the next step is to send a copy to a few publishers and I'm also considering self-publishing. There will also be a few copies available, so you lucky people get to experience the first, (hopefully) in a series of many. So if you've got young kids and would like a copy leave a comment...Thinking of you Matt P and Chris B... (Is this also the first Children's book to come out of Designer?) Allan
  2. Is there a way i can make turn a photo of a person into a cartoon on ad/ap?
  3. Hello, just to be clear, I would like to draw the cartoon by hand, but use Affinity for certain purposes to make things easier and to enhance the final product. Therefore, I don't have use for a comic making software like Manga or such. The problem is, I don't have experience on this, and I don't know the technical terms of what I'm thinking of, so I'm not sure how to start asking whether I would able to do the things I'm thinking of with Affinity. So, maybe I just describe what I have planned. I would appreciate if you would tell me if these are possible with Affinity, and what the terms are: 1. First, I would draw by hand some recurring things, like basic body shapes for main characters and such. I would scan them. From the scans I would like to somehow easily crop out the drawings along their outer lines (is there a name for this procedure?), and store the drawings in a bank for later use. 2. Then I would set up a page for a comic strip with Affinity. I would need to have points for the corners of the boxes to have the comic strip outlined. And then take from the bank whatever I would need in that particular strip and place them there, or even partially outside of the strip (for example if I only need a character chest-up). Can I set it up so the corber points stay on top, even if I would place a character on the same location? 3. Then I would print it and draw the rest for it. Connect the corner points to make the boxes of the comic strip. 4. Scan the whole finished strip, and apply some final touches, erase everything outside the strip boxes (for example the lower body of that character I used only chest-up). The key points are that: the scanned drawings would have to be exactly the same size throughout the process, so a 0.5 pen would look exactly the same in 1. and 3. So when I crop them and store them, and then bring back again, they would be the correct size. And that I could operate on an A4 with the box corners outlined all the time. I hope you got what I'm going for. I appreciate if you can say whether I can do these with Affinity, and I would appreciate to know what the names of there functions are. Cheers!
  4. Hello guys! This is Jixie Bubblegum, a quick character I made last night using Designer and my Texturizer Pro brushes. Hope you dig!
  5. Hi there, Very new to this software, can someone please help me on obtaining a cartoon effect on a photos we see everywhere esp. profile pics Thanks Affinity Designer( Windows 7)
  6. As an exercise, I knocked up this illustration. I'm thinking of migrating to a simpler, more easily achievable style of illustration. Up to now, I've been painting everything in acrylics and then digitising the results. I've found AD every bit as good as Illustrator so far. This took me all morning, so I hope to get faster eventually. All the best, Kevin
  7. So here is my latest AD creation. And I must say that I really like it :) Created as a t-shirt design, you can check out how it works out as a t-shirt here: https://www.facebook.com/rimaucorporation/photos/pcb.1158414130905680/1158412160905877/?type=3&theater or here: https://www.teepublic.com/t-shirt/749895-socks-based-on-a-true-story I must admit it took a bit more time that expected to finish, I was beginning with much more symbolic face expressions idea, but wasn't happy with the outcome.
  8. Hi All, I've had this idea for a while and finally i've got a few ideas up and its going in the right direction. Think clumsy Monkey who does silly things or just doesn't think... and the catchphrase with Jiraffe. May give it a new direction and turn it into in to a kids book at some point, or do i keep it adult based with interest for kids??? Probably would go down the route of Peppa Pig, Hey Duggee if it was aimed at kids. SO need to think about that but maybe keep it as is and look to get these published in a mag or online somewhere?? I still remember my comics as a kid and reading things like Hagar the horrible in the newspaper.. Anyway, thoughts & suggestions welcomed... Here are a few from the Ohhh, My Strawberry Monkey series Allan
  9. Project using Affinity Designer Windows beta. I thought the idea of Frankenstein with a pink Poodle a bit quirky!
  10. Hello everyone, I thought it would be nice to share my first illustrations made ever, enjoy :) I saw a finished picture of a how-to-draw-a-castle tutorial and I tried to copy it without actually following the tutorial itself. This one is incomplete tho. My greetings.
  11. No idea who these two are. Feel free to make up your own story. Winner gets a Kinder Surprise.
  12. Slack Monday...so rather than doing any actual work spent my morning playing about illustrating a rocket ship for fun.
  13. Hi everybody, I would like to know your sincere opinion on this RPG-like character. For some reason I feel that something's missing, I'm a little bit stuck with this one, It doesn't kill me, you know?… perhaps you could help with an extra pair of fresh eyes on this... I would really, really appreciate your comments :)
  14. Playing with some new techniques. I've been sketching directly with vectors and so far I'm happy with the results. What do you think?. Any comment is welcome :)
  15. Just a few things I have been doing with Affinity Designer so far. I have been using it every day for my daily illustrations to a newspaper in Finland - Hufvudstadsbladet - but I cannot wait until they will release the iOS-version so I can use it on my recent purchase; the iPad Pro with Pencil. You ain't seen nuthin' yet:) This first one is the cover of an economic magazine. Many of figures in this was used in other illustrations throughout the magazine, so AD works perfect this way, too, for a n00bie such as I:) Next one up is a flyer I designed for my brother who works as a wildlife guide up in the arctic part of Norway. With AD it was a piece of cake to throw this together... The next two are examples of the daily illustrations I do for Hufvudstadsbladet...
  16. Finally was able to make the switch at work from Illustrator to Affinity Designer for any graphic images we use. Created this guy for a website based of the logo. I love the ability to adjust the stroke pressure to add a bit of variety in the stroke wide.
  17. I am really happy with this, knocked it up in about 45 min. This is my second attempt at my wacom and affinity and vector art. I am really happy with the outcome . Please feel free to give feedback. Jon Fuller
  18. Hi! I'll be posting here my artwork made with Designer so far. Hope you all enjoy, I've had lots of fun doing this characters and creatures! Any comment good or bad will be welcome.
  19. Hey guys! First time posting here. :) This is a poster i made with affinity designer, with some post work in photoshop. It's for a play, called "O Tornos" which means lathe in greek. It's a great dark comedy. You can see the final version in my behance project
  20. I did not know that you could share with the community work done. I want to share with you my first job with Affinity Designer. Criticism and advice are welcome (if also explains how to get with Affinity Designer better. So the program learn more) I also share my account of Behance, but now is empty until I put up. Thanks to all (: Behance: www.behance.net/elzekah
  21. other test with affinity... :D
  22. Hi all! Thought I'd share a work in progress. This is one character sheet for a possible webcomic, Glorious Junk. The purple character is Sashai and the bat is still looking for a good name (suggestions welcomed!). Basically this was a test to get a good feel for using Affinity Designer. As far as testing goes, I'd call it a major win. The best thing that I finally got was that Layers are storage for curves and objects. The Layer_org.png is a screen cap of Sashai's layer structure. I made extensive use of the masking abilities that curve objects offer: the legs, arms and head all use them. All shading (except for the gold yellow arm band) is from closed filled curves with gaussian blur FX and I used the Transparency Tool a lot (way cool tool, btw). I'm not too happy with the shading on the arm with the gold band, but that's why this is a WIP. :) For the interior curves (the detail on the hands and the spirals for the knees and elbow were done by just making a curve and then selecting the curve with the Node tool and adjusting the pressure profile. It took a bit of playing around with to get a good handle on how best to use it, but once learned -- it's a really wonderful feature to add some life to curves. When the pressure sensitivity of tablets are working better (in the next beta for AD if what I've read is correct), then it should be just awesome to use in order to really fine-tune line thickness. The Move and Node tools are better than any other equivalent tool in other vector apps. Only minor gripe, is that when a node is smooth the indicator changes from a square (for corner node) to a circle. The fill color for the indicator is the color for the layer (right click on the layer's name and in the contextual menu is where layer colors can be selected). In some instances when there's a lot of nodes, the I clicked on the "wing" of the node and accidentally created a new node when I thought I was clicking on a node. If the node "wings" (the actual name escapes me at the moment) indicators could be filled with a lighter tint of the layer color it would be easier to see which is which. I like how when clicking on the handles, when the handle indicator turns red, it's aligned with the opposite handle and if I let go of the cursor then, the node is now a smooth one, if I continue moving it remains a corner node. Absolutely brilliant usability feature that took no time at all to appreciate and take advantage of! One thing that has stopped me from doing a lot of art in vector apps was the struggle between what I wanted to do and what the interface allowed me to do. In Affinity Designer it's like the interface makes it easier and quicker to do the art I want to do, in the way I want to do it. Sure there's this and that thing I wish AD could do, but for a first release version, it's the most stable (have yet to crash on me!) and easy to figure out app I've had the pleasure to use. To go all Spinal Tap, I'd give this app 6 out of 5 stars!
  23. Attempted a manga anime style type drawing. I'm not quite happy with the colours but I don't think I will improve on this unless I spent another few hours on it. I've included the affinity file as well so you can see how certain I've done certain things. I'm not an artist so there might be a few things that I could have done better, or more efficiently.
