  3. Hello all... I am trying out the iPad version of Photo and really loving it. I have all the photoshop shortcuts down from years of use and spending some time figuring out the transitions needed. Prblem I am having is in two ares... 1 - When I make a selection in the selection persona and make my adjustments in the photo persona I can’t find the way to then deselect the marching ants! Why is there not (unless I am just missing it) a “deselect” or “hide” command? 2 - Why can’t I just paint a mask to do my adjustments with? One would think having a
  4. Hello everyone Hello Support and Dev Team Would like to know if it is planned to make the Dodge and burn tools to also work on mask (of all type). It is sometime very helpful for white fringes removal during when removing BG. Well until then, Blessings y'All !
  5. Hi folks, I apologize for this probably simple question, but I'm getting lost... Is it a fact that tools such as DODGE&BURN can not work on a pixel layer ? Editing a really old analogic photo I 'realized' dodge (or one of the other two) does not work on a pixel layer whilst it is obviously performing its proper job on the background layer. I'm perhaps wrong, but I used those tools on 'new' pixel layers as well, in the past. Can anyone swiftly help me ? Where I'm getting wrong ? Thanks in advance
  6. Hi everyone, I just created a tutorial that was requested by several people who bought my 180 Smoke and Cloud Brushes from the Affinity store. In the following tutorial you learn how you can use the smoke brushes to create a fire effect on regular images. Hope you enjoy it! :-) https://www.xresch.com/tutorial-fire-effect-on-images-876/
  7. Hi, I am using latest version of Serif Affinity Photo, and I have noticed that the burn tool does not work at all. I am using windows 10 home edition. Please help.
  8. Hello All, I recently started using Affinity photo. As there are so many tutorials on Dodge and Burn for Photoshop, so i wanted to replicate the same in Affinity Photo. When you do Dodge and Burn in Photoshop, then you can change the Feather option by going >Windows>Properties>Feather. It's a shortcut for doing Dodge and Burn. Can someone please tell me if we can do the same in affinity Photo, i couldn't find the Properties option for my layer. I can get almost same result with Gaussian Blur. But i am curious if there is any Properties option hid
  9. Photoshop has a saturation / desat brush nested in the dodge & burn brush tools. Can't find tyhis in Affinity Photo. The only way I can see of applying saturation to a specific area is by selecting it first - & this doesn't allow subtle changes. Can anyone help?
  10. I have used the Dodge and Burn tools on the iPad version for a while and have always wondered how the little color wheel with a lock in the middle is used, and the gray target with the pen in the bullseye. What's that for? When I tap my Apple pencil, or finger, on them, nothing seems to change with the tool's performance other than they get a gray highlight around them. I've learned a lot from videos, but none seem to go through each tool with a detailed explanation.
  11. Can anyone please confirm that when using dodge and burn tools, when I select the tonal range it should allow me to specifically target highlights/midtones/shadows on the source layer? If so, then it seems that it doesn't work at all - instead when choosing highlights, the dodge tool works with more intensity, but ignores the tonal range setting I chose. Can anyone confirm this behaviour? I'm really confused and when watching tutorials it seems that it should work in a very different way.
  12. Hi, It seems to me that the Protect hue option in the Burn and Dodge tools is not working. The result is identical no matter if it's on or off. For comparison, in Photoshop if I turn on this option there's a very clear difference in the result. So is it something with my settings in Affinity Photo or is it a bug? I use the latest official version of Photo. Thanks in advance!
  13. It would be very useful to apply dodge and burn as a gradient, not just as a brush. Also, Also, it is a nuisance that the box of the blend range opens always in the center of the image with which you are working. And having to move it aside, each and every time you open it, so that it does not hinder the vision of the changes you make. Thanks and regards.
  14. I have recently got affinity photo for iPad and am having a variety of issues. I use a Sony a7ii and can't load raw files. Dodge and burn refuses to work for me. I have iPad Pro 10.5. Other things are problematic at times. please advise..
  15. A way to identify pixels which are burned out (white), which can be handy for example in creating mask to clean them up: Duplicate layer (Ctrl-J) Invert (Ctrl-I) Blend Mode: Colour Burn Any burned pixels will appear white. Everything else will be black. This works because (across RGB channels): The blend calculation formula is: Result = 1 - (1 - Base)/Blend For white in bottom layer, Base = 1. For black (inverted white) in top layer, Blend = 0. In this case, Result = 1 - (1 - 1)/0 = 1 (white) For all other colours, say 0.4, Result = 1 - (1 - 0.4)/0.6 = 1 - 1 = 0 (black) To see what is
  16. hi guys, I'm new to the forum and signed up because I've noticed a problem with AP when I use dodge or burn. If I use dodging multiple times, I have noticed some very ugly artifacts in form of a sharp, ugly looking uneven border in the area applied. Is this a known bug? Thanks
  17. All have started with this tutorial Non-Destructive Dodge & Burn. When I tried to use it I found that I don't have same effect as real dodge & burn tool. Then I asked this question in Forum, and got some ideas. But still wasn't happy. I decided to figure it out and followed next steps in my investigation: dodge&burn simulation.afphoto - I prepared stepped gradient. - Copied it and applied dodge and burn tools with different tonal ranges (highlights, midtones, shadows) and different opacity and hardness (100% and 50%). - Above original gradient I created new 50%-grey layer
  18. I am using it to implement Ming Thein's workflow, who often uses selective dodging of highlights / burning shadows to increase local contrast. This works very well in Photoshop CS5: when applying dodge/burn brushes to highlights or shadows, they nearly do not affect midtones - ok. However in AP, when either highlights or shadows are selected also the midtones are affected heavily. This can only be worked around by reducing brush opacity to 10%, but then the intended effect is mostly gone. So IMHO a steeper separation between highlights, midtones and shadows would be needed. Secondly, it
  19. Can anyone tell me how to do a proper dodge and burn layer? All I seem to be able to do is to duplicate a background layer and then burn or dodge on it. Is this the only way? I can't seem to figure out how to do a proper 50% grey layer and use that for dodging and burning. Maybe that way isn't the way it's suppose to be done...I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers, Jason
  20. In Photoshop I use the dodge- and burn-tools to fine-tune layer-masks – especially by hair. That technique can unfortunately not be implemented with Affinity Photo. What are the chances that it works in the future?
  21. Is it possible to dodge/burn masks in Affinity Photo? I've tried it several times with different documents, but with no result … my fault? Greets, Tobi.
  22. After finding out that doing a levels adjustment opened a new layer, and I needed to toggle back to the background layer for the clone stamp tool to work I tried that and it worked fine. I then opened another image and went through the process again, levels adjustment, toggle to background, clone stamp tool. I then tried the Liquify Persona and when I dragged I could see the squares changing but the picture didn't change. I clicked on "apply" and left that and went back to "photo persona" and tried the burn tool. That didn't show any changes either even when I toggled between the layers. I th
  23. I am finding that neither the Dodge Brush Tool nor the Burn Brush Tool function at all for me. Simply nothing happens when I attempt to use them. I've adjusted the opacity and size and even tried using them within a selected area and then without any specific selection active. Just giving you a heads up! But, I think you guys definitely are on to something and I am very glad to see something so compatible to Photoshop at a price that everyone can afford, so thanks! :D
