  1. Please add the ability to add pure vector based vector brushes based on vector objects for texture instead of PNGs. For now we can only add pixel based vector brushes. Being able to add pure vector brushes based on vector objects would allow us to create vector based textures and designs, which would be much easier to handle for any kind of (print) production. For example I tried to separate the colours to a spot colour PDF for screen print from this awesome work by Pierre Kleinhouse made for the Affinity Work from home series https://youtu.be/lL6gc8Oi2uw .afdesign file on DropBox: https://affin.co/LD2020PierreKleinhouse It was sort of a nightmare. I couldn't find a way to create a vector based spray texture within the Affinity Suite like in the second screen shot with the chimney. Expand stroke, working with spot colours, working with boolean operations ... a lot would be easier.
  2. Change Affinity Photo brush colors on the fly. In this Affinity Photo tutorial I show in both iPad and desktop how to change your brush colors on the fly. It is number 33 of my Digitally Fearless Powerful Tools of Affinity. https://youtu.be/xh9oMoIxE_w
  3. Hiya folks! 🖖 I'm sure we're all dealing with the same stresses and frustrations brought on by the COVID-19 chaos (my country has been on full lockdown for a while now). It's important to stay busy to stop the cabin fever from kicking in, so I decided to create a little custom raster/pixel brush pack for Affinity apps - free for all! The brushes are not too complex, mimicking some traditional inking tools we all know and love, such as brush pens and fineliners. Perfect for those 'run-and-gun' illustrations where you just want to get to work and avoid the option-paralysis brought on by having to go through hundreds of custom brushes first. Included in the "Lockdown Liners" brush pack you'll find: 1 x HB Pencil (inspired by the Palomino Blackwing 602 pencil) 1 x Precision Eraser (inspired by the Tombow Mono eraser) 4 x Fineliners in Broad, Medium, Fine, and Ultra Fine (inspired by Pigma Micron technical pens) 1 x Brush Pen (inspired by the Tombow Fudenosuke Hard Tip brush pen) 1 x Gel Pen (inspired by the Sakura Gelly Roll) Fully compatible with Affinity Photo for desktop and iPad, and Designer's Pixel Persona for desktop and iPad. *Best used with a drawing tablet or iPad with Apple Pencil to take full advantage of the pressure sensitivity that the brushes offer. I'll likely make a few tweaks to the pack as I go along, but I'll be sure to update it on Gumroad when I do so that everyone who has already downloaded it can be notified. Hopefully you can create some cool work with the brushes to help pass the time while we're all stuck indoors - if you do, be sure to tag me on Instagram, http://www.instagram.com/christidutoit, I'd love to see what you make! Here's the download link to the brushes on Gumroad: http://www.gum.co/lockdownliners As mentioned, these brushes are totally free to download and use, just type $0 in the price tab and click "I Want This!". Stay safe out there! - Christi. ☠️
  4. Hello, Great work on the new Designer / Photo release @affinity! I have a bug in Designer stable and beta (1.7.1.404), when I try to open / activate the Brushes Panel the app crashes instantaneously. I had this problem earlier too, but was relieved when I saw it fixed in the previous release (1.7.0.367). Now it's back. I had the same problem with Photo too. Now Photo won't launch at all (since the Brush panel is open by default I think, so resetting the Studio does not help). Yes, I tried removing all third party brushes, and as I said previous release worked without any problems. Any help is appreciated. (How do I roll back my active Designer / Photo instance to an earlier version? Simply uninstall and reinstall using the previous installer?) Thanks!
  5. Due to purchase of new computer system, I had to reload Affinity Photo Version 1.9.2.1035. Unfortunately, I'm unable to load saved ABR brushes that worked on previous system. Attempts to import get the Error Importing Brushes message. Some ABR brushes I made work others don't Has there been a fix or patch made for AFP? Thanks

  7. Project Brush 10 Set 01 Leaf Updated the brush set to Version 2 Should work much better now! Project set renamed to Leaf so I can integrate the older vegetation sets Changes/improvements as below Version 2.0 1. Removed old versions redundant now.. 2. Made significant changes to the brush dynamics and nozzles. All nozzles are now vector based replacing previous raster versions (as much as possible) 3. There is a significant number of new nozzles for the brushes Which means they are not like original sets.. 4. Made use of the 1.7/1.8.2 brush engine in AD/AP using subBrushes. 5. The old brush set was appearing darker and less intense with 1.7/1.8 update...I have fixed that with this version! 6. Updated the Sample sheets to newer (latest) layout..Sub brushes are displayed in red. 7. No Base Textures in this brush set Archived the Older Brush set and updated Library information 30 Raster Brushes Project Brush 10 V2 - Leaf Set 1.zip
  8. 3 things that would save me a lot of time would be: 1. A "recently used brushes" panel. 2. When I select a brush and then adjust its size, the brush I'm using is no longer highlighted in the brushes panel. Sometimes I forget which brush I'm using, so keeping the brush highlighted would be very helpful. 3. Organization options in the brushes panel. When duplicating a brush, I would love to have all of the duplicates located directly below the original brush but slightly indented.
  9. Hi, I have created a basic black PNG watermark and loaded it onto a new image brush. So far so good -- it applies. My understanding is, as this is a brush, I should be able to set the colour, e.g. white. But nothing I do changes the colour when I apply the brush. What am I missing here?

  11. Hi, I am really missing the ability to create vector brushes like I could do in the Adobe Illustrator.
  12. Hi I have an issue with the brushes from the „VectorHero - Ink Brush Pack for Affinity Designer“ by RetroSupply on the Mac as well as on the iPad. I’m attaching 2 screen grabs: 1. Unexpected behaviour in latest Affinity Designer on the Mac (same behaviour in latest Affinity Designer on iPad): 2. Expected behaviour in Illustrator 2017 on a Mac with High Sierra: In Affinity Designer after I apply the brushes to vector lines, the line visually continues after the endpoints, respectively gets added before the starting point. When I use the equivalent brushes in Illustrator on the same file (exported as .EPS from Affinity Designer) the brushes apply to the curves as expected. Anyone else seeing something like this? Is this a bug in the brushes or an Affinity quirk?
  13. “Space Base” is a vectorial image with a sci-fi theme, created as if it was a still frame from an anime movie. Another vector illustration made with basic shapes, gradients and this time, special brushes for the clouds. This work was also made following a tutorial by visual artist Isabel Aracama, and you can acess her site for this tutorial plus the freebies: www.isabelaracama.com
  14. It is these brushes in particular. https://gumroad.com/l/yFKMw There doesn't appear to be anything different about them from normal photoshop brushes that can work just fine with Affinity. Normally when I install anything of substance it might cause Affinity to freeze for a second before starting to work again. When I go to install these it just freezes permanently. I've given it up to four hours to start working again, but it always results in crashing instead. And I do say Affinity because I have tried installing the brushes on all three platforms with the same results. I have tried drag and dropping them in to install as well as the usual import brushes option. The brush pack is only 53 mb. How can I install these brushes without causing a crash? Or if it can't be done, why? I'd like to know so I don't purchase unusable brushes in the future.
  15. I was in need of lines with dots and triangles for a project. I started creating a few lines and then I encountered a whole bunch of problems with repeating patterns in the Texture Intensity Brushes in the Designer Persona. My triangles got squished, my squares became rectangles and I went into full pitbull mode and did not sleep until I understood what went wrong. These are my work arounds if you’re struggling with squished or otherwise deformed repeating patterns: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/101575-textured-intensity-brushes-and-body-repeat/&tab=comments#comment-545105. With the work arounds in mind I’ve created a set of brushes with repeating patterns that hardly show any deformation*. I was on a roll, so I created 114 in 9 families. I won’t use all, so feel free to use them. They're nice for stamps and borders and such. Enjoy! *) When using these brushes on a tightly curving curve or a sharp corner they of course do deform. Experiment with the brush setting for Corners to find the best solution for your project. The brushes all contain a centred line (in 3 widths, S, M and L) and repeating shapes and stripes above or above and below. The brushes with stuff above the line, but not under are therefore not vertically centred on the stroke. In the stripey families I added 3 lines with a different center point, those are marked with a suffix ‘mid’. They are symmetrical, the 'mid' version is vertically centred on the whole stroke. When you import the brush files you’ll see that a few of the brushes in the round families have different heights from the other brushes. The sources of these brushes have a different width height ratio (see the post linked above for the reason why). I added them to the brush files with a height that by default fits to the brushes with the standard height of 80px. 16. Hello, I bought a bundle of brushes (https://gumroad.com/chuvabak?sort=page_layout#euNx) for my board game prototype but I ran into a problem: the ABR brushes seem to be semi-transparent once imported to Affinity and thus instead of being able to stack the ship parts under or on each other, they blend, which does not work at all (see the screenshot). Is there some way to prevent that? (Blending options did not help at all). If not, is there some workaround? (I tried to apply selection to the object, then invert the selection, so that the new object would only appear "outside" of the previous one, but it does not work well, since there are always some white spots between the objects when used in this way.) Thank you for the answer!
  17. There are several different brush types in Affinity, and unlike I am missing something obvious, it appears to me that the raster brushes used in Affinity Photo can only be used with brush tools. It would be fantastic to be able to apply these non-destructively to vector paths. Essentially like a non-destructive version of Photoshops "Stroke Path" feature. This is something that for instance Macromedia Fireworks and Discreet Combustion were always able to do, but for some reason it was never added to Photoshop. Possibly, the applications could also support adding multiple brushes (or strokes in vector terms) to the same path, opening up even more possibilities. In addition to the obvious benefits, having raster brushes on vector paths would also allow the brush engine to be used more like a particle system, another long-standing omission in Photoshop's feature set that would be great to see in Affinity. NOTE: There is a "Texture Line Style" setting in Affinity Photo's path stroke options, but this doesn't seem to work with the raster brushes, counter-intuitively not even with those in the "Textured" category in Photo's brushes panel. I assume that this requires Designer brushes (as these work when applied in Designer in the same place), but those are not available inside Photo as far as I can tell. As such, I find this a bit confusing, and it seems that I'm not alone. Some kind of note in the Stroke popup under the "Texture Line Style" that lets the user know that they need to use Designer to apply Texture stroke brushes would be useful.
  18. Hi Affinity team. This post is a cry from the heart. I have been using your programs for a long time and I really like them. They are great for designers and photographers, but not for artists. Below I will share my vision of how Affinity Photo can be improved for digital painting. <<I immediately apologize for the quality of the text, I used google translator for translation >> Brush Tool Update Creating brushes from selection Instead of one New Brush from Selection item, it's much more convenient to add two items for each type of brush. No need to worry about using a layer and mask to create a new brush from a selection like in Affinity Photo 1.9. Updating brush settings The brush settings in Affinity Photo are sorely lacking in some features, and also brought in some cosmitic tweaks. I changed the view of the slider for the rotation parameter. It shows the rotation of the brush in degrees. In addition, the pivot point on the slider is in the middle. Important changes are needed in the Texture tab: 1. Add the "Add from Selection" item to add new Brush Nozzles from the selection. This will undoubtedly make it easier to create and customize brushes. 2. Add Brighthess and Contrast settings for the texture. For these parameters, a slider with a zero position in the middle and a range of values from -100% to 100% will also be used. This way you can adjust the strength of the texture on the brush without using Wet edges. Context toolbar Instead of using force pressure for brushes without dynamic settings, it's better to add a pen sensitivity on / off mode. I very often need to draw a line with a pen without dynamics (like when drawing with a mouse), but this is impossible in Affinity Photo. So I have to choose a different brush or turn off the sensitivity in the brush settings. This is very annoying and time consuming. Paint Mixer Brush Update The Paint Mixer Brush needs to be heavily transformed. Now it is only suitable for processing the finished image and is extremely poorly suited for drawing. Therefore, I want to suggest the following changes: 1. Add a pen sensitivity on / off button instead of forced dynamics. 2. Add mode "paint at max pressure". If this mode is enabled, then at maximum pressure with the pen, the brush will paint with the selected color, and with light pressure, the brush will mix colors. This brush behavior is typical of the mixing brushes in Paint tool SAI. If this option is disabled, the brush will have a paint limit as it does now. 3. Add mode "Take Under Layers Color". When this option is enabled, the tool will take into account the layers below, and will mix colors with their color. This will increase the non-destructive editing capabilities of Affinity Photo. 4. Add mode "Blend transparency". Now, if you draw on an empty layer without filling, then the accumulation of color is taking place on the transparent layer, and with the Blend transparency option on, the color will sort of dilute and become translucent. In this case, the options Take Under Layers Color and Blend transparency are mutually exclusive if either of them is activated, the other will be unavailable. All of these changes should significantly improve drawing in Affinity Photo.
  19. Windows 10 I have my Affinity Photo setup on my laptop under my account, but made a second account on the same computer for a family member to use my device. I'm trying to teach them to use Affinity and would like all of my preferences - brushes, texts, setup, ect -- on her account. Computer automatically made it so she can access the application but set her version to factory presets. Same device, didn't have to redownload the program or anything Quick way to get all my brushes and fonts so she can access them?
  20. Hey, so what are subbrushes and how do they work with the mainbrush? When do you use subbrushes? Thank you for your answers
  21. Hey, 1. I want to make a brush of three different images, lets say smileys (one happy, one very happy and one sad). The images do exist. Now when i paint with the brush the appearing smiley should be random how do i do it? 2. Now i want a more complex brush a brush of garden gnomes but this time i want them to differ in thei features randomly. So i have three mouths, 2 beardstyles and 5 hats they should not differ in any other way. Can i get a brush maybe with the subbrush menu that paints a garden gnome with a random combination of these features? All that without me having to create a picture of a gnome for every possible combination first. Do you know whether it is possible in a different program ? Kindest regards and a big thx for your explanations.

  23. Hello, I am a beginner with working with Affinity Photo, but I am already totally thrilled by what this Software can do. In order to get familiar in using it, I work through the according work book. In the project "Pure Gold" the book has me to choose a certain brush ("Malen 1") from the "Gemälde" ("Painting" in English?) category. Unfortunately I cannot find this brush in my collection (see attached picture). Aren't these brushes in this category part of the standard software setup of Affinity Photo? Or can I get these brushes somewhere (download) in order to import them into my library? I work with the MacOS desktop version of Affinity Photo. Jens

  25. I absolutely love using the Affinity Designer iPad app and I’m sure I’m not the only one who has amassed a LARGE collection of brushes. So many that it’s almost impossible to quickly find the ones I want and duplicating and moving them to a new brush category is not the easiest solution. I would LOVE to have the ability to ‘star’ or ‘colour-code’ brushes in the brush panel so that when scrolling through the panel and various categories a user can very quickly see which brushes they have ‘favourited’ (they could have a bold outline around them or a star icon next to them). Even better would be the ability to colour-code them like you can with the layers panel. Imagine being able to see your favourite brush categories at a glance! P.S. this would be great for the desktop version too. Mockup attached. Love you.
