  1. Greetings, I love the tools offered at Retro Supply (brushes) but unfortunately, most are tooled as Adobe Illustrator only. So I have a few questions for the collective brain. Do you know of a way to convert AI brushes to work in Affinity Designer Do you know of a source that has retro etch / engraving brushes such as the one attached Thank you ~ Jack
  2. I'm using Photo version 1.9 on a Windows 10 with a Cintiq 24HD. When I flip the pen to erase and then return to the Brush tool the selection in the Brushes list is no longer highlighted. The same thing happens when using other tools eg Pan, when I return to the Brush tool it draws with what I was using last, but there's no indication in the Brushes list to know what it is. Is there a way find out which brush is selected? I expected it would always highlight what was in use.
  3. I've had a lot of good feedback from my first batch of brushes, so I've made an improved set. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I am. Gumroad
  4. I've been making my own art brushes for painting in Affinity Photo. Would love to have someone check them out and give me some feedback on how they work for another artist. Here's a link for them. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1W1YCuQGewCndNiQeALm03srBUnvw1WwV/view?usp=sharing I'd like ask anyone who downloads them not to share them.
  5. This is a raster brush test. The brush settings do not set the Spacing to less than 1%. But even so, it turns out an interesting result.
  6. Hi there! I've been working on these art brushes, and thought I'd make them available for everyone. They can be downloaded at https://gum.co/HzEIw.
  7. When I downloaded a set of brushes in Photo 1.9.0.932 via the new ‘account window’ (not sure of the proper name), the application told me that there was already an existing set and it would be renamed, which was fine. However, I now have two categories, one called “Inksy Street Art 2” and one is called “Inksy Street Art 2 – Custom Brushes”. Which is the original version – which I want to remove – and which is the newly downloaded ‘fresh’ version? (I’ve had a look in the Help but I can’t see anything about this.) (I did some searches in the forums but couldn’t find anything here either, but didn’t do an extensive search.) (This is on Windows 10, in case that matters.)

  9. I apologize upfront for the numerous questions, but I'm still kind of new to Affinity and I'm trying really hard to eliminate Illustrator altogether. Let me start by saying, I love Affinity Designer, but I ran into a big problem... Does anyone know where to buy true vector brush kits for Affinity Designer? Brushes that don't pixelate when exported? I saw one brush kit at https://www.retrosupply.co/collections/affinity/products/the-vector-brush-toolbox-for-affinity-designer, but I don't know for sure if they're true vector brushes. Has anyone tried them? To give you an example why this has become a huge issue for me--I recently did an illustration for a customer, and because the brush I needed turned out to be raster, I had to go into illustrator, recreate part of the illustration and bring it over to Affinity. I tried to create a similar brush in Designer, but it was still raster, so I recreated the brush I needed in Illustrator and redid the work there. Is there a tutorial on making vector brushes in Affinity Designer, true vector brushes? I read somewhere that Designer doesn't support vector brushes? Is that true? It's a little frustrating when you have to duplicate work, because the vector program you're using isn't always vector. It even warns you that part of your drawing might be converted to raster when exporting to a pdf. Why? Does anyone know why Designer allows raster brushes to be added to available brushes in the first place, and why--assuming Designer supports vector brushes--they wouldn't be somehow separated? Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help me figure out my options.
  10. On a Mac, when I update from 1.8.6 to 1.9 will my additional (i.e., beyond the defaults) Macros, Brushes and Styles automatically transfer over or will I have to reinstall them all?
  11. I have recently downloaded some resources from Affinity Resources, namely a set of brushes (the Fog and Smoke Starter Pack) and a set of Styles (Dream-Metals-Styles). I went to my styles panel and clicked "Import". I found my download location (Downloads folder) but Designer could not recognize the UNzipped Affinity files. I can see them with no problems when using Windows Explorer, but neither of the packages are visible from the Import panel in Affinity Designer or Affinity Photo. Very frustrating to have these delicious new styles and brushes to use but not be able to get to them!! I followed the instructions in the Help feature - step by step - but Affinity just doesn't see them. Any help would be appreciated!!

  14. Im not sure how useful or good they are, but I made some vector brushes.. useful for me, and if anyone can use them, here you go :-) i made them for the love of vintage lettering styles, and I use it for backgrounds, like the old Sanborn Maps style.. Anyway, as I’m quite new to brush making, I’m sure they can be improved, and if I do, I’ll update them here :-) hope it it will be useful for some :-) and they can be downloaded from here.. feel free to give feedback.. good or bad is welcome as long as it is constructive:-) 276ccm Vintage Lines.afbrushes
  15. Hello all, I've created a batch of brushes in Photoshop that have textures applied to them in the Brush Settings panel. I made the textures by hand, scanned them, then made them into pattern textures in Photoshop. I exported these brushes as an ABR file and tried to import them into Affinity Photo, but the textures haven't translated across. I've attached one of the brushes for your reference. I don't really want to have to create these texture brushes from scratch in Affinity, so does anyone know if importing texture brushes is supported by Affinity? If so, how do I do this? Any thoughts would be much appreciated! Thanks very much Tom's Texture Brush(1).abr
  16. Hi, I bought affinity photo on windows Microsoft Store recently. I found out some of the brushes other than basic brushes always have a huge delay when I use a high resolution(300 ppi)artboard. I read about similar problems that have been discussed in this forums. I changed the spacing of brushes that delayed, but this solution is not working for my case. There is no problem when I draw with Adobe Photoshop. I wonder if other people have this problem, or it is just my setting being incorrect. My computer has an intel core i7 7th gen chip, a Nvidia GeForce gtx1060 graphic card, and 16g ram. This delay problem is really bugging me. I hope there is a way to fix it, or I can only going back to photoshop.
  17. Designer on iPad, recently updated: when I want to DUPLICATE a BRUSH from a list, the message "new brush added" appears, but no brush appears at the bottom of the list. In Affinity Photo duplication occurs, but in Designer NO

  19. Hello, I'm trying to redefine the keyboard shortcuts for brush resize (squadre brackes are a bit uncomfortable for me), it seems I have to redefine them separately for every different brush type. Is there a way to change the shortcuts for all brushes at once? I know I can also use Ctrl-Alt + mouse drag but it's very difficult for me dragging on one axis, so I often end up changing brush hardness too... Thank you in advance, Mario
