  1. Christmas is coming... Made a few Textured brushes.. Zipped file (afbrushes) Below: Chritmas 2015 By William Mabey.afbrushes.zip Enjoy.... Cheers ヅ, Bill  FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/william.mabey Wednesday, November 25, 2015 9:10 PM
  2. I had the need for a charcoal textured vector line and found no such texture in the default brushes that come with AD, so I watched some tutorials on creating my own textured vector brush. I did succeed, I might say, but have the feeling there are a few improvements the developers could make: I’d like an option to keep the size of the texture the same when changing the stroke size. Currently the texture (i. e. the image it’s based on) is scaling with the brush. I needed a relatively thin charcoal-style line but the texture was almost not visible anymore, so I had to go back an forth with exporting the properly sized image to use as texture for the exact stroke size I want. That’s not very flexible. Ideally a separate option to scale the texture inside the stroke would be awesome. And one can check a checkbox to either scale with stroke or stay as is. And related to that, I’d appreciate if actual vector graphics could be used as texture images for vector brushes, so that it doesn’t look blurry if the stroke size (and the pattern that is scaled with it) gets larger than the original image. Sorry if it turns out that there is already something like this implemented and I just didn’t see it. In that case kindly point me in the right direction.
  3. I appreciate much how easy it is to create my own brushes and I am trying to create a collection of Texture Intensity Brushes to be used with my illustrations. What I am trying to achieve is "dirty" outlines. I don't like my drawings to be too clean and smooth. I am slowly getting there but I wonder why I cannot set these brushes to be tapered off in both ends like the solid brushes? Is there any reason for it or will it be added? I'll attach two screenies which may help to explain...
  4. Hi all I am very new to this and have a question I am hoping someone can answer for me. I am used to designing in photoshop which obviosuly uses raster brushes. Is it possible to get new brushes for Affinity that are vector based, brushes like smoke brushes, head phones, clouds, grunge brushes etc. I look forward to hearing from you all Regards Jon
  5. Is there anyway to add brushes without opening the software? Photo and Designer? (like just adding to a folder where ever the brushes are located?)
  6. Dear Sirs and Madams, (sorry for my bad english) first: aphoto and adesigner are both very very cool and useful programs. :D it was a very short time to converse my habituation from indesign to adesigner. (meanwhile i rather use adesigner) your video-tutorials was very helpful but in aphoto i must learn still some things, so i am sorry when following suggestions or questions are unnecessarily: 1. shortcuts in non-english keybord-layouts thats a big problem for german users because the user operability suffers some time. especially the „[" and „]“ keys are not reachable in german keyboard layouts. is there an (usable) way or for german users without changing the whole keyboard layout? (that would be in conflicts with shortcuts in other programs) 2. if using quickmask, the brush color must be set to „white“ to remove desired areas in the red „invertmask". but if i set the brush color to „black“ his functionality is opposite - like an eraser. thats very cool - so i dont need to set the eraser size seperately - only switch from white to black. but it is a bug or a feature? (i have not seen that in the tutorials) 3. is there a shortcut in quickmask (like „alt“) to switch from „mask“ to „demask“ function? 4. there a many different brushes in aphoto but most as an „circle“. sometimes i wish there would be some brushes with „sharper“ forms to better paint ore refine masks. maybe like an „triangle“ that can be rotated and changed like desired to work better in sharp edges. 5. i wish the cropping tool would be have a "preview“ function for blend out the unselected (cropped) areas. maybe switchable in the colors black, white or (selectable) gray. so it would be better to estimate the cropping result bevor pressing the „apply“ button. (wysiwyg style) 6. a more consistently way to crop "lossless" - without loosing the cropped areas after pressing "apply". the crop tool could maybe be ask on pressing "apply" what to to: "crop finally - and loosing the cropped pixels" or "crop with mask - without losing the cropped pixels". 7. a better indication which tools will act "reversible" or in "finally". (parallel or serial processing) at the moment this distinction is "from where" the tool is selected - from the "layers" or the "filters" menu. and - to find a needed filter the user must be click around in different menus. i think ALL filter should be storaged in ONE place (one menu) with a special sign (or a submenu) if the filter is availble for act in parallel and/or serial processing. best regards, yummiweb
  7. I'm using the free 10-day trail at this point. I draw with an Intous3 Wacom tablet and have not been able to make my pen work with pressure sensitivity in the program . Does anyone have a solution or have experienced the same issue? Thanks.
  8. There is a super cool feature with Pixel Tool that allows you to paint with "alpha" keeping the same tool preset. If you press CMD while painting, you can easily erase keeping the same appearance: texture, nozzle, jitters,etc... Is it possible to extend this feature to Paintbrush and Paint Mixer too?
  9. I tried to use as many of the brushes as I could. Starting with a black background saved me a lot of work. Keeping foreground, mid ground, and background in separate layers also helped a lot. The texture brushes are a blast to use.
  10. Hi all. I recently purchased both Affinity Designer and Photo (The latest versions from the Apple Store, not the betas), and have been loving them. I have used and am familiar with Illustrator, Photoshop, Gimp and Inkscape. I have been trying to master Designer and Photo, and am liking the workflow over even adobe's offerings. I love the innovative personas. I have run into some issues though. In Designer, I went for the Warp tool (Edit>Transform>Warp in Photoshop) and could not find it. I tried the help menu, this forum, and searching for it, but came up blank. Is it labeled under some other name in Affinity? I also attempted to create a brush from a png i created, but Designer compressed the image until it was much flatter, ruining the brush for me. I know that I am probably just missing something in both scenarios, so I appreciate any attempt to educate me. Maybe I need the Betas? I apologize for my incompetence. Thanks very much, and to the devs, keep up the great work!
  11. I suddenly see a Undo Brush Tool in my toolbar. How do I get my normal brush tool back?
  12. Where can I find those square brackets on my Mac te resize my brushes. In Photoshop I controlled that with the following menu: Shortcuts. Can I do the same in Affinity and where do I find the shortcut manager?
  13. Greetings all, Are there any rules, or guidelines, for creating the artwork used to create custom, textured brushes in Affinity Designer? I've been using 300 dpi PNGs, RGB, white stroke against black background. Regards, jB
  14. Hey forum, I downloaded the app and I worked the last days with it - everything worked well after a short time of changing the system, but I miss some details/options? Maybe I have not found them yet, or they are not existing, yet.? 1. I cannot change my brush size per keyboard? [ ] (the shortcut for that alt + 5 or alt 6) works well in text, word or safari, but not in affinity? I haven't found a option to change the short keys or an overview regarding the other existing shortcuts? (german version of Aff. Photo and german keyboard) 2. I would really like to copy the effects on Layers - for example the Shadows or what would be great the light also :) Thank you very much for the help an best regards !! Ost
  15. Sent this inquiry into another thread. Effectively? I cannot find them in my app...do not know where they have been inserted as it has been announced each time that I have clicked the file. Little dumb I am. Could Ronnie or any one you, friends, just tell me? thanks in advance... Rosa
  16. Hi, Does anyone know how to import brushes into AD? I've looked at posts here and followed the instructions (ie clicked corner menu & selected 'import brushes') but .abr & .eps files are greyed out and I can't import anything. Do I have a glitch? Hoping someone can help. Cheers, Hannah
  17. Here I am with a quick tutorial to create a Bristles brush entirely within AD. http://po.st/vtcUXD Hope you'll enjoy it! Happy New Year!
  18. In editing of brush can be used Angle and Tilt of stylus. But Angle uses only X axis of tilt of stylus and Tilt uses only Y axis. Is it feature or bug? I can't assign real tilt of stylus to brush. Any suggestions? Thanks
  19. Hi, just bought Affinity Designer. I have tons of brushes in abr format. When I use import brushes, affinity confirm import but I can not find the imported brushes and even the destination folder that Affinity makes when import. And one more question: When I browse the brushes (included in affinity) I see just number and brush "line" but can not see the brush itself (the core symbol)
  20. Hi friends, I have been looking for an answer to my question in the thread of brushes questions but I think none of them are meetings my needs, I think that what I need is firstly to be sure that there is that possibility and then after to exactly know the procedings, I do not want toget fixed in how is it done with Ps or Procreate or any other. It is much more important to know this in Affinity from scratch. And so.....what are the methods for creating customized or ouw own brushes either in vector paths or in pixel painting brushes? For sure....admitting the difference between. both kind of brushes. I may be even more interested in the pixel brushes, Let's say, to have brushes with geometricao shapes, or flowers, animals, textures and so on. Anything. I thank you in advance for your kindi interest. You are a really great team and a great memberhood. Rosa
  21. For a better/quicker painting experience, there should be an option to show brush categories in tabs next to each other (not only in the standard dropdown menu) Something like: https://sslproxy.getsatisfaction.com/sslproxy/SWhAdDNLMG5zdGFuVGlWetRbb8z9kvU2Gl6stkUAoH68YTKjCbb4vV2aPeBt-yRX9gamL-OMbd9TtWAAWI8dQ3jMHzd8j1mu1nGXXHDWBvW_AGPtPuGlBgxBNTMy-g-p8Z-rF39b71r1ULIPxCJkiPtitRyCYAQTROHrxyZhFyaDfXYnW9dgYuxpUp80q0hk.jpg Here on the bottom panel the tabs are presented under each other, but i saw this also as tabs next to each other. This would allow lightning fast access to the brush categories and a much faster painting experience :)
  22. Messing around a bit with watercolours and some blenders. I recently repainted this picture from scratch using the new Watercolour Set, using much more refined tools. Now textures are subtle but perceivable and the final result is more credible. Affinity's engine has been growing a lot since 2015!
  23. There are any shortcuts for brushes available? I want to change witdth, flow, opacity and hardness without moving to the top toolbar. best wishes Marco
  24. How do I get brushes for affinity designer and can I use old brushes I've used in photoshop and how to Import them into a folder.
