  1. Would like to see bracket keys control the sizes like they do in Photo or Photo Persona to increase or decrease size of brush when using the Draw persona.
  2. I'm trying to create a color pattern image brush that would have a transparent background, so I save as a png without the background. When I create the image brush and select the image, the color has shifted. Really apparent in the blue/teal color. Why?
  3. Is there a way for Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo to sync their brushes? Now I had to import one brush set to each application separately.
  4. Hello everyone, I've posted a topic in Question area, discussing about the brush tool. It seems Affinity Photo couldn't handle pressure control very well. When drawing a line in Affinity Photo with a tablet, it always ends like a tadpole, like in picture one. What I expect is a line that have a fade off at the end, like picture two, is a screenshot from Clip Studio Paint. I'm not sure if it's the problem of brush tool or the problem of pressure control of the software, but I really hope Affinity Photo could add that kind of feature, as it's labeled "Professional Paint, Sketch, and Texture Tools".
  5. Recently I started drawing in Affinity Photo. One thing that confused me is that I couldn't figure out how to draw stroke like this: The line get thinner at the end of the stroke. This is a screenshot from Clip Studio Paint. I tried configuring accumulation jitter and flow jitter but still can't reach this effect. Does anybody know how to config the brush? Or do Affinity Photo support this feature?
  6. A feature I'd love to see after working with some complex masking with AP on the iPad is an easier way to jump back and forth between black and white when using a brush on a mask. Having two color swatches in the brush bar at the bottom when working with brush would be extremely helpful. Thanks for an excellent program.
  7. I finally worked out how to create coloured image brushes for both Vector & Raster formats in Designer. The raster brush instructions also apply to Photo too. When a member of a Face Book group I belong to, asked how to create a brush from a png image, I set about creating a video. No text or voice-over, just some nice relaxing Royalty Free music and my mouse movements. Recorded on a Windows 10 Pro system but hopefully Mac users will be able to see what actions need to be performed on their O/S. I have also included the two single brushes here with Permission from Nikki. Any comments are welcomed. 8. Hi, I recently purchased Affinity Photo along with a Huion Display Tablet (Kamvas GT-156HDV2) and was trying out the brush tool when I noticed that the brushes don't taper very nicely, especially when I start the stroke (was drawing from bottom to top in the attached image). and it also ends a bit funky too. Not sure if it's a tablet driver issue (also contacted Huion) or could be a compatibility problem? UPDATE: This also seems to be a problem in Affinity Design, but doesn't look to be as bad. Also, even when I apply pressure at the beginning of the stroke, it starts off with the thin line before it jumps to the correct size. I use other programs as well (Autodesk Sketchbook and Clip Studio) and I have not encountered this problem
  9. Hi there. I have just started using the trial of Affinity Photo and so far I quite like it. Coming from 17 years of PS I find it very intuitive. But I'm having an issue with the paint brush tool. After a while it refuses to paint in white. Yes, only pure white. It will paint other colours just fine, including black and the lightest possible grey. If I paint with white nothing shows up. As soon as I switch to any other colour or shade of grey it paints no problem. This happens on masks and pixel/background layers. I have the flow and opacity both at 100%. Protect Alpha is unchecked. Blend mode is normal. But it can't be those settings, because as I said, every other colour except white will paint fine. If it were a problem inherent in my settings I assume it would effect all other colours, too. If I quit and restart it goes back to normal and will paint with white, but after a while it stops again. If I open a Any ideas? I've never come across this issue in any editing software before. Did I break it? Edit: Nevermind. Apparently there's some RTFM-ing I need to do. Looks like I hit the crossed out circle next to the main swatches on the colour palette and it took away my white painting ability. Mods can feel free to delete this post if you like.
  10. Hi everyone, I downloaded the promotional brushes, and installed on my affinity for iPad. I noticed that they come with brush name in the list. How I can show my brush name in my custom library? I have many custom brushes created by myself, but every time it's hard to distinguish one from each other. I'd like to have a label with their names. Like I have with this new promotional brushes.
  11. I love Photo for Windows but could you tell me if this is a glitch or am I missing something. I know Designer would probably do the job first time but I only need to put a precise shape around part of a photo using a brush. I have started by using the pen tool to create the curve in a new layer. With this highlighted I have clicked on the box between the stroke colour and point width to access the Stroke style. Clicking on the Nul, Solid line or Dash all do what they should but the Brush button just leaves things as a solid line. I already have the brushes open and brush selected in the right hand tool bar. Within the stroke style box the pressure drop down works to vary the width but when the properties box is clicked the Brush pop out box is empty and all sliders grayed out though I can click between General, Dynamics and Texture. I can use the Brush with the Paint Brush tool but this does not give me the adjustable curve I require. The problem is still present in the 1.6.3.102 beta and also if I try to alter the stroke of any shape. So where have I screwed up. Thanks for any help you can offer, Graham Curve Stroke Problem.afphoto
  12. I’m evaluating the Affinity Designer Brush for my art drawing. One nice feature in Adobe Illustrator, I find, is the ability to edit a path by simply selecting it and hand-drawing over it. With each stroke, you get to remodel the path and refine it until perfect. Let’s say I draw an oval with the brush in free hand: there will be small bumps and flat areas, and the endpoints will be open. After selecting it, I can easily smoothen the curve by drawing over it, and I can connect the two endpoints and close the path smoothly the same way. The process is very natural and intuitive. So far I haven’t found a similar feature in Affinity Designer. It would be great to have it!
  13. Basically I've installed the daub-concept brush set and would now like to removed them. In the process of trying to removed them myself I've deleted several of the pre-installed brush category's and would like to know if there is away to reset them to default without a full reinstall. I'm currently running Affinity photo on Windows 10. -Thanks
  14. So, I want to make a custom brush here. Is there no way to keep the color from the original image?
  15. Hello! Using a Wacom Cintiq Companion with a Pro Pen. Sidenote: to be able to emulate all mouse buttons with the pen, I configured the rocker switch like shown in the attached picture. Works perfectly in practically all applications that I use (also 3d or CAD apps). That being mentioned: The current shortcut for resizing the brush is (unfortunately) ALT-LMB-RMB. However, in Affinity Photo I just can't manage to resize the brush using that key combination on the pen! I always end up being in color picker mode (like with ALT-LMB). It works with the mouse though, and also in Affinity Designer, so it must be a bug in Affinity Photo! Anyways: Can we please at last have another shortcut for resizing?? With the pen, pressing LMB+RMB at the same time is no good, because it means putting the pen tip on the tablet AND hold the right rocker switch! Awkward. Also, using "Decrease/Increase Brush Size" is not a good option. It's simply not fast and fluent enough to fiddle with shortcuts like that. Neither is using the size slider in the toolbar. Understand, this simple shortcut issue severely takes the speed out of the workflow when painting! (Allow me to mention I do professional storyboard and inking work for like 14 years now. Used Corel Painter, Photoshop, Clip Studio. Never a problem with brush handling.) Why not just do it the Photoshop way and we're good? I don't believe this is a difficult thing coding-wise. You just have to want to move it up in your to-do-list. I'll go on nagging you with this as long as this is unfixed... .'p Thanks for reading! Best regards Eugen
  16. 89/5000 Hello, is among the plans to create brushes vector pattern? it would be very useful
  17. Hi Mark Thanks for the new Beta.. and I appreciate all the hard work that I am sure has gone into the latest updates. Overall looking good!.It has been stable even with large number of vector objects contained in some of my crazy files. There are a couple of things that I have noticed: 1. I am still finding a couple of recurring brush issues. One of which I reported earlier after the 1.6 launch in this thread issue 4: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/49337-ad-16089-ad-16190-beta-brush-bugs-and-some-weirdness/....but was having difficulty getting it to appear...Until this afternoon (as attached movie!) I thought it was occurring when I exchanged a nozzle but today I found a similar issue with the replacement/removal of the Base Texture. hence the video. Previously I was able to retrieve the 'working brush'/selected brush by toggling the active personna ...but it appears not to be the case with this issue. 2. I think this has already been reported with the 'live version' 1.6.1.93 that sometimes the settings are not saved with the brush. I also found that if you duplicate a brush the settings get copied to the new brush but not maintained in the active brush after you close the dynamic/brush window. (not frequent in latest beta)...or just ignoring the changes Brush fail2.wmv
  18. First of all very nice job on the mobile app! There's still room for improvement, but it's by far the best iPad app in it's category. The features that I would like to see in the new version are: persistent tool selection - specifically, I do a lot of pixel art work, which means I use the pixel brush. However, every time I need to use the Selection persona, I come back to the brush tool being reset to it's default tool, the paint brush. This is quite annoying as I always have to tap 2 times just to go back to the brush I was using. If Affinity would remember I selected the pixel brush my workflow would be much improved switching personas and having personalized menus on 2-finger tap is cool, however, once I make a selection and go back to the drawing persona to move/resize/draw something I cannot access the Select menu without having to switch back to the Select persona. Most of the times I just need to deselect all, so having to tap 3 times is frustrating. I would like to have an option to deselect without switching personas. Maybe long press on the Select persona button in the toolbar gives me the Select menu without switching, maybe 2-finger tap includes some selection items as well even in the default drawing workspace. the fill color I feel should be the color that you're drawing with, not a different one. This is a standard in all drawing software and it's a logical implementation of real life painting - you use your brush to paint small areas, you dump the whole bucket of paint to fill in a large area. Having 2 active colors is nice, but the ability to switch between them and have a primary one which all tools use makes more sense than arbitrarily assigning different colors to different tools. Keep up the awesome job! Thanks! t
  19. Hi Guys, first thanks for this beauty, but have some little problem with the Wacom Intuos tablet. Brushes are very slow and in fact not really usable! I have to work now with the mouse to get things working.:( I use Window 10 leatest version.
  20. When I draw with the pencil tool in draw persona, there's a nice little unobtrusive pencil icon. But when I draw in pixel persona with the paint brush tool, the shape of the brush stays on the page. If I'm using a large size, the icon gets bigger too, and obscures what I'm trying to paint underneath. I can't work out how to fix this in preferences. Is this meant to happen? It feels like a bug. If not, how might I set up Affinity Designer to avoid showing me the shape of the pixel brush, or make it disappear while I put pen to paper, so to speak? I'm using Affinity Designer 1.6.0 with Mac OS X High Sierra, but it's been doing this for a long time.
  21. Hello, would it be possible to limit input from tools, specifically the brush tool, to only stylus input? That was we could freely place our hands on the screen, pan, zoom, etc. without the fear of making marks. As it is now, whenever I'm drawing or paining, I have to go back and cleanup marks made by my hand. Thanks!
  22. WIN 7, a{ V. 1.6.2.97 In an Affinity Photo Tutorial on Lynda.com, in the section on refining a selection using the quick mask, "If we hold the kControl ad Otion keys together, we can drag up and down on the tool to make it harder and softe, and wwe can drag left and right to make it smaller and larger." What I get is circle with color values e.g. white = R 255 G 255 B 255, in fact that happens as soon as I use the Option key. This same tutorial says to Zoom with Cmd/Ctrl + Spacebar/--doesn't happen. In my version, when selecting, I have tool bar choices of New, Add, Subtract, Intersect and the online tutorial doesn't--I don't think the shortcut keys in the tutorial work the same way. I would really like to have a current tutorial that works. I'm very frustrated. I have AP on an iPad 2 and haven't noticed these problems. I'm not getting any work done because I'm struggling adapt from PS and not only is the app slow but fighting me every step of the way.
  23. Hi, When one opens the brush edit dialog for an existing brush and touch some sliders for experimentation, the changes are auto-saved and there isn't a Cancel or even an Undo for them. How do you recover you original settings for the brush? Please add Cancel button to the Brush Edit dialog to throw away changes, and also make it possible to Undo it after committing the changes.
  24. Can anyone give me any tips on how to achieve lines similar to the style done in the show 'Ed Edd n Eddy'?The line widths are all over the place. Would this be done with a specific brush or by manually altering the line widths?
