  1. I am creating a photobook and I am now working on the book covers. I am a complete beginner. (1) Do you recommend Publisher or Designer to create the book cover (front, back, spine)? (2) From the tutorials I am watching, they recommended downloading the Amazon KDP book cover template from here: https://kdp.amazon.com/cover-calculator. I am stuck with the Interior Trim Size measurements. Please see my Affinity Publisher V2 document settings screenshots and the KDP output as well. Have I done everything correctly - the book layout on Publisher and entering the right info into the KDP calculator? I have a total of 160 pages of which 155 pages are photos and 4 pages are written content. The Dimensions of the book use a Page Preset of Letter with Dimensions of 8.5 in x 11 in. I am looking at soft cover book at the moment. (3) What dimensions should I have for the book cover document? Thanks for your help!
  2. I'm pretty new to publishing so not sure of the correct terminology to use, so I'll start with my usual process. I usually create a book (for this example an A5 portrait formatted book). The front cover (page 01) starts on the right side of a spread of 2 pages. With all internal pages then being a two page spread. Finally the back page of the book being the left side of the spread of 2 pages (page 16 for example). My current book design however requires a single image to span across both the front and back cover as a single entity. (basically wrapping from the back to the front cover). So my question is how do I approach this? I have a couple of thoughts and I don't know if either is the correct method in terms of efficiency or more importantly when it's handed off to a printing company, I get back what i'm expecting. Thought 01 - As the front cover is page 01 and the back cover is page 16, do i have to duplicate the image and create 2 images split equally down the middle and paste the right side image on page 01, and the left side image on page 16? This seems very time consuming and causes big issues when editing the image after splitting it into 2 images. (i.e. changing the contrast twice for each half of the image, or worse having to split the image in 2 every time I replace / update that image) Thought 02 - Do I just create a new master page for the book cover which is A4 Landscape (=2X A5 portrait) and treat the front and back cover as page 01? and therefore have no specific back cover page (page 16). Will this cause issues at the printing company end, as the cover page is now not defined as A5? Any help would be greatly appreciated to how I move forward. Finally relating to this issue, what's the process when you need to design the spine of a thick hardcover book? Thanks
  3. I thought I’d build up my cover design skills by designing three covers for one of my favourite books. This is Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale with three covers designed off three lines/happenings in the book. (Behance link) I've included mock up image below.
  4. A new book cover design for the crime series from Cologne. As always, made with Affinity Photo. My favorite app when it comes to professional graphic design. https://www.bodobe.de/todesmission-buchcovergestaltung/
  5. MY BOOKCOVER TUTORIAL IN THE AFFINITY WORKBOOK My work in book cover design caught the attention of Serif (Nottingham) and one day I got mail. Whether I wanted to do a tutorial on book cover design for the new Affinity Photo Workbook, and of course, I was happy to be there. As an example, I have contributed a tutorial for the design of the book cover of a fictional novel (Search The Woods): From setting up the document to the actual design and exporting the print edition, all work steps are carefully described. https://www.bodobe.de/mein-tutorial-zur-buchcovergestaltung/
  6. Here are some pre-made book covers (Affinity Photo). Sometimes ideas come and you can just start when the time is right. https://www.bodobe.de/pre-made-cover/
  7. Hello, I'm a graphic designer and illustrator and I work with the Serif apps. I worked with Photoshop and Indesign for many years, but I discovered Affinity Designer in 2015 and Affinity Photo just a little later. I have created many book cover designs, most and the best with Affinity Photo. Now I have bought Affinity Publisher and I am absolutely thrilled. I now open all work with affinity publisher and switch very quickly to photo or designer. It's so practical, I love it! I am happy every time I switch in Affinity Publisher to Photo or Designer, I don’t want to do without it anymore. Thank you, Serif, you really did something great. Yet again;-) Here is a working example: E-book and print cover for a thriller series from Cologne. https://www.bodobe.de/berberblut-buchcovergestaltung/
  8. Dark blue, light blue and blood red - new colors for a crime series. Exciting crime stories with heart and soul from the Eifel - brought to life by the author Ulrike Schelhove. Her detective novel series around the investigators Ilka Landwehr and Alex Stettenkamp now includes 11 volumes. The novels are very popular and have so far achieved top rankings in the Amazon bestseller lists. In the meantime, all previously published novels from the Eifel crime series have been redesigned after consultation with the author - everything created with Affinity Photo. 12. Hey guys, this is a new PreMade book cover design that I tried to use to place the author name next to the title (instead above it) Of course, the name should still visibly separate from the title and also be well recognized as the author's name. What do you mean? Titel/Info: Im Regen sieht dich niemand weinen means something like No one sees you crying in the rain http://b-bertuleit.de/buchcover-design-im-regen/

  16. Book Cover Design (PreMade), Affinity Photo After a long time I once again created a so-called "PreMade", with fictional title and author name. I did 'nt have a directly matching photo. I wanted to try to get a deep "camera" perspective, so a glance flat over the grass. For this I have several grass photos overlaid and merged into a (one) picture. What do you think? Looking forward to your feedback   :) Friendly greetings to everyone http://b-bertuleit.de/black-summertime/
