  1. Hello everyone, I have a problem with Affinity Publisher’s PDF export that makes it virtually impossible to generate print-ready PDFs. The images in my exported PDFs often—though not always—appear “glitched”, with distorted or black bars appearing mostly in the upper half of the image. I have included a comparison screenshot that shows you the faulty result of the PDF export vs. how it should look like. I have also attached both the faulty and correct PDF. I do not know exactly what causes this problem to happen, but here is everything you might need to know about it: I only encounter this problem on my Macbook Pro (2021) with M1 Max. When I export the same document through Intel-based Macs or Windows machines, the problem does not occur. I’m running the latest version of macOS and Publisher 2.2.1. However, I’ve had this problem ever since I got this Macbook in late 2021, meaning this problem also existed in Publisher 1.x (I finally got around to posting this here 🫠) Not all images are affected. On some documents, none are affected at all. I played around with the PDF export settings quite a bit and different settings do lead to different results. Exporting a PDF for screens, for example, made the problem go away … but only on one document that I tested. Weird. My guess would be that this problem is caused by PDFlib, which to my understanding is the library used by Publisher to generate PDFs on macOS. Maybe there is a bug related to PDFlib on certain Apple Silicon machines? Though the problem might be something completely different and this may just be a shot in the dark. Any help on this is greatly appreciated! Right now, I have to export any PDF that I need to have printed through my secondary Windows machine, which is obviously far from ideal. Thank you, Niklas correct.pdf faulty.pdf
  2. Hi, Since a few months I use the Affinity Suite on an Apple M1 iMac 16 GB Big Sur 11.6. And I noticed huge memory problems: using all of the 16 GB and all of my 500 GB HD. Before that I had an intel Apple 8 GB quad Quore late 2015. I design exhibitions so my spreads are often in a large format like 15 x 5 M, but they are not high res, often 100-144 dpi. When I design a book, the .afpub size can be above 1000MB but these 1 page files are less. My latest spread occurring problems was 4,2 x 5 M, 100 DPI, CMYK, a picture layer and 2 lines of vector text, no layer effects. If lots of pictures & transparency in the design: before exporting the press ready pdf, I do exported the pictures layer to a single png or jpg to avoid transparency rip problems, and import that file, or files, back in Publisher. Most of the time that was and still seems the best practice. And if size-wise necessary (pdf max size), I use a spread scaled 10% (1000-1440 dpi) of the final printed result. A press ready CMYK PDF is always less the 800 MB. My old intel 8GB would do the job. Not fast but that's ok. My new Apple M1 16 GB - surprisingly- freezes often and I noticed huge memory problems and alerts: using all of the 16 GB RAM and all of my 500 GB SSD to produce a single pdf. After that I limited my RAM usage and undo limit (to 10) in the Publisher preferences. This helped a bit. I also do save a file more often, quit sometimes and restart Publisher. This helps to get my free memory (200GB) on my SSD back instead of the 10GB I sometimes left with (but not by written files). But I really thought why can't this new combo do the job? Any users experiencing the same issues? Or know a solution?
  3. If you have a new Apple M1 Mac you may find that some plugins no longer work with Affinity Photo. Our apps were updated, 1.8.6, to make them Universal macOS apps which means they support both Apple M1 and Intel processors. On Apple M1 Macs our apps will optimised for Apple M1. However, some plugins have not been updated and will need to use Rosetta to make them work on Apple's M1 Chip and in Affinity Photo.
