  1. Hey Affinity community! Over the last few days I've been tinkering with an alternative app icon for JOEY, an Android client for Reddit. I originally saw a post on Reddit where a user presented their attempt at an alternative symbol. I asked them if I could try my hand at it and refine it a bit and they agreed. These icons are the result and they were quite happy with the outcome. (Please click the preview for more details.) Any constructive criticism is welcome!
  2. Yes, we will be providing MSI installers to customers who require them. This FAQ will be updated with links to MSI downloads when they become available. Yes. These are now available
  3. Pros: MSI had an installation success rate of ~85% (and we have many requests to our tech support team for v1 install failures). MSIX promises a 99.9% success rate. MSI requires admin privileges to install. MSIX installs per-user, but files are deduplicated so that disk space isn't wasted. MSI apps are not sandboxed from other applications, meaning other applications can break those apps (we have seen this with several third-party apps in the past). MSIX apps are sandboxed to prevent this. MSI updates require a manual download of the full ~550mb installer which must be manually installed. MSIX can perform in-app delta updates which are smaller and faster. MSI updates can only be performed one at a time. MSIX can update all three apps simultaneously. MSI cannot guarantee that an uninstall will leave your machine in the exact state prior to install. MSIX installs are segregated and don't rely on the registry or special filesystem locations meaning an uninstall always leaves you in a clean state. Installation and app data paths are cleaned on uninstall. MSI apps cannot integrate with Microsoft Photos app to provide "Edit In..." style features. MSIX can. MSI does not require a digital signature. MSIX does (this means any MSIX that appears to be from Serif, will be guaranteed to be from us and only us). Cons: MSI can allow the user to change the installation directory. MSIX can move installed apps to different drives, but it cannot choose a specific directory (due to the sandbox). See below: MSI can allow an option to install a desktop shortcut. MSIX doesn't provide this as an option, but you can pin the apps to either the Start Menu or the Taskbar. There is also the secret Shell:AppsFolder location in Explorer that allows you to right-click or drag the icon to your Desktop for a shortcut as a workaround if you need it. MSI has easy discovery of undocumented app locations for launching from a third-party. MSIX hides the install location due to the sandbox, but we use App Execution Alias to enable this scenario. You can find the aliases in the following location: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\AffinityDesigner2.exe C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\AffinityPhoto2.exe C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\AffinityPublisher2.exe Remembering to replace username with your Windows username. Also, those paths are already in your %PATH% variable so you can often launch them without even specifying the full path, e.g. just AffinityPhoto2.exe. There are bugs in some third-party applications with the App Execution Alias , and the next post includes aflaunch.exe as a work around if you need that instead.
  4. Its just crazy there isn't an Android version of Affinity. My two cents. Yadda yadda about M1 and processors etc. This is a professional tool, Affinity is not supposed to be just winning a drag race for number crunching speeds. I'd be quite happy with my Android tablet coming in a few milliseconds behind Mac, as long as it got the job done in a tolerable time.
  5. Hello, the Apple app store states that the Affinity Designer app is compatible with the Ipad Air 3 however after I purchased the app I received a message stating that it is not, in fact, compatible with this model and I need to seek a refund for my app purchase. I'm confused because I see people in this forum who have the Ipad Air 3 and are using the Designer app so am I receiving this incompatibility message in error or has the app recently modified to exclude the Air 3?
  6. Updating via Mac App store the Affinity Photo app is failing (freezing circle icon) tried many times, restarted, waited hours and days. No luck. What to do?
  7. Hello Affinity, a small barrier exists between "industry standard software" and others. It's how and what you are able to present to clients in an efficient way. I'd like to suggest that Affinity acquire or build this type of app to help designers of all levels to present projects quickly and efficiently the way Live Surface can. https://www.livesurface.com/index.php
  8. Hey everyone, so I found those templates to export iOS icons and another document for Android apps. Since, we are developing an app in Flutter, this document is perfect fit. So I created a template doing both at the same time. Enjoy it. Follow instructions in the document and please write a comment for any bug / suggestion. App Icon Exporter - v1.afdesign
  9. Is there an option to try Affinity iPad apps before purchase? I don't see a trial option. Thanks.
  10. All the fonts are unsorted how can I fix it?
  11. Hi! I have installed/saved several macros and luts on my affinity app on my iPad. Are there anyway I could transfer the program to another iPad. my only option seem to be to download the affinity photo app blank and then manually import al of the above again into the new app on the new iPad. This is extremely boring...:-) The backup from iCloud only installed the “empty” app again. any solutions or is it just keep on doing it manually....?
  12. Hello Fellow Designers, I would like to share my latest work with you. Last week I created an iOS 13 app with Affinity Designer and Apple's latest user interface framework, SwiftUI. The application itself is a part of my new SwiftUI Course as the first project which students will build from scratch. I found both Affinity Designer and Photo very helpful in the creative process and I decided to continue work with them in the future. If you do not mind, I attach some snapshots of the SwiftUI app. What do you think about it? Any suggestions or tips? I would appreciate it so much. Have a nice day! Cheers, Robert A short video about the final app: App Gallery
  13. I need clarification on how Affinity Photo saves images. My normal workflow is to import RAW images directly into the Photos App on OS for organization. From there I would like to edit images within Affinity. I understand there are 2 ways to accomplish this and there lies the confusion. I select edit in Photos App then select ‘edit in Affinity’ dialogue. The image is opened in Affinity after instructions that says close image when done and select save changes in Photos App. The edited image now replaces the original in Photos App. Is the image saved in the Photos Library? If I decide to export the image I have options for file types and location, but if I just select save or save as, where does the image get saved? When I select reveal in finder, says library>group containers>(some random folder)>intermediates. Is someone could walk me through the ins and outs of saving vs save as vs export that would be helpful. Or is there a video that explains all this. Thank you very much.
  14. Dear Affinity-Team! I'm very impressed by the iPad version of your apps. Sadly I do "only" own a Microsoft Surface (Tablet). You can run Affinity Photo and Designer on it but sometimes it is a big pain in the ass to be not able to take full advantage of the power your programs offer. Especially without a cover and a mouse only equipped with the Surface Pen, it is difficult to get buttons right. For that reason, it would be just awesome to have a surface version with all those fantastic features and as intuitive as the iPad version. I hope to hear positive news soon. All the best from Germany. Stefan
  15. I am a registered user of Affinity Photo and Designer. I now have a second personal computer, a laptop, and I would like to install Photo on it, as a Windows App rather than execution of the usual .exe downloaded file. That's important to me because my laptop has a very small SSD where the OS is, but will install Apps on a much larger DATA HD. (On my desktop Windows doesn't see Photo or Designer as Windows Apps, but rather as installed programs. I'd like to change that situation too, but that's a later topic.) So.... Should I pay for the Windows App, then request a refund? Or is there somewhere else I can get the App install file, then later use my registration code to activate it? Thank you, Ray PS. Should have mentioned that Windows allows Apps to be installed on the DATA (D:) HD whereas Affinity Photo wants to be installed in on the OS (C:) in Program Files.
  16. Hello everyone, I bought Affinity Photo on my Macbook Pro a few months ago, but I was wondering if there is a way to use the app on my iPad Pro without paying twice for it? Thanks so much!
  17. I’m using a combination of AD and Keynote to design and prototype an iOS mobile app. For those that have successfully used AD for this purpose, what size device screen do you use for your art boards? Should I stick with one size of a small screen (phone), and one of a large screen (tablet)? Should I also include both portrait and landscape orientations? Or am I making this more complicated than it should be? Thanks!
  18. EDIT: Hooray. This App has finally been published. Scroll down to get a link to the Microsoft Store listing. I've started working on a new Windows App and have been having trouble getting the icon right. It will be a simple - and totally free - conversion App - kilos to pounds, metres to inches, etc. The general criteria I've given myself for the icon are: * must represent or give the idea of "conversion" or "change"; * broad strokes only - minimal detail, so it scales down well; * single colour only; * must fit nicely in a square with hardly any surrounding space; * should not contain letters or country/culture-specific items; * must not look much like any other existing App icon (not sure how to check this). I've come up with a few variations so far but I'm not happy with any of them (see attached). I started out - top-left - with the idea of taking a section out of two rulers and comparing them (ended up looking like a telephone). Then it morphed - top-right - into comparing a stack of items (started to look like a set of in-trays). Then - middle-left - I went on to a kind of funnel idea. And then - middle-right - a sort of "multi-arrow" that turned into nothing much. Then - bottom-left - I tried some more traditional weight icons but I don't want a specific measurement type to be in the icon. The icon at the bottom-right is what I'm using until something better comes up (it looks a bit like a birthday cake at the moment). Does anyone have any suggestions? (Especially if they're way better than what I've got so far.) The people with the best suggestions - those which make it into the final icon - will get a mention in the App (if they want one) when it comes out.
  19. I have the surface 3, but the Microsoft store won't allow me to download the affinity designer app, should I download the desktop version? On a similar note, I signed up for the free trial and tried downloading it but it is stuck in a loop. Once it downloads, it requests to be "Open" or "save". Open does nothing while save brings up the same prompts for another copy.
  20. I want to import a picture from photos on ipad into Affinity to experiment with. Apart from getting a blank import screen nothing else happens when I press the import from photos button. I assumed it would sync with my photos app. I am not finding Affinity particularly intuitive. I would like to get started on my own project rather than just play with tutorials. When will A book for iPad be available? I have bought the tome that applies to Mac thinking it might be of some use with ipad. Workflow is signficantly different as not to be useful with ipad, unfortunately. Advice would be appreciated.
  21. I bought and downloaded Affinity Photo through my desktop computer. How can I download a second copy onto my laptop? When I sign in and go to my Microsoft account 'order history', I can see the purchase but there is no way to input my product key to download a second copy. Driving me nuts!
  22. At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, where are the apps available for Photo and Designer on Windows? I haven't had any luck locating them on the Affinity web site.
  23. I think that Affinity Designer needs to be able to create animations of transformation and transition of an interface and more generally the UI/UX prototyping. Thanks. I love this software.
  24. Only For Food Lovers is my first iMessage sticker pack. It was made with Affinity Designer and it is now available on the App Store. I'll be launching another sticker pack in the next few days. Only For Food Lovers link: https://itunes.apple.com/app/only-for-food-lovers/id1291727830?mt=8
