  1. This is basically a repost to carry it over to the Affinity V2 Forum Section: As discussed in several Post is the "Merging Down" function causing Anti-Aliasing in many cases. For Illustration this is an undesirable result, as it blurs your edges. Especially in Brush and Line Work this is making the "Merge Down" (and "Merge Selected") function virtually unsuable. I am not sure of all the things that cause layers to merge blurred but it is anyways too big a risk for an intuitive illstration workflow to use the "merge down" function with a hotkey (which is a often used and important function). For now the work around is: 1. Select the layer below the layer you want to merge down. 2. "Rasterise & Trim" it. 3. Select the layer you want to merge down and select "merge down" function. As I understand this is not a bug but a intended behaviour. For Photo Editing this is understandable. But Illustartion work suffers, because we need this pixel precision to keep the sharp look of the image. Especially on lower resolution images.   2. Hello. I'm attempting to upload art made in Affinity Designer to Teespring. I export as a PNG, Resample: Bilinear and don't resize the image larger when creating my listing. After creating the listing, the preview looks pixelated. Other shops don't have this pixelation problem on their product pages. I'm concerned about the quality of the shirt. Their design tips say to turn off anti-aliasing in Illustrator. Can I achieve a similar result in Designer to prevent pixilation of a printed product? I see an export option for nearest neighbor but I don't fully understand this or if it will allow my design to be printed with high quality. The artwork are vectors and they are only pixelated when uploaded to the shop. What would you suggest?
  3. Hi, I've been using Designer for a while now, It's a great product which provides a quick turnaround on designs. However I often find myself requiring to create pixel art for 2D game projects which use either TGA or PNG formats with very small resolutions. The Nearest Neighbour option for filter comes close, but it causes some aliasing on edges, which needs to manually be fixed in a raster editor, which makes things time consuming. Would it be possible to add an export option with zero filtering to avoid pixel bleed and get crisp pixels?
  4. Hi everyone, I’m fairly new to the iPad version of Affinity Photo. Is it possible to disable Anti-Aliasing for creating shapes? Being completely honest Affinity Photo for iPad seems like a great candidate for Pixel Art but that is getting in the way.
  5. When typing text in a Photoshop document, there is a popup available that displays the following anti-aliasing options: None Sharp Crisp Strong Smooth The addition of these would make Affinity Photo's type handling even more powerful. Thanks.
  6. Hi there good folks in the Affinity forums, first of all, I want to say, that I do like the software very much and I really try to find a solution for my problem here. I've seen variations of this issue in other threads before, but but it seemed, that there is no solution to this. Here are my problems: In Affinity Photo and Designer (Pixel and Designer Persona) I experience serious brush lag and all in all performance issues. This happens with brushes in all sizes and complexities, even with the standard default pixel brush. When I rotate my canvas, raster based areas are victim to very terrible anti aliasing problems. Here you can see an example of the anti-alias problem, you can see it in my red and green sketches especially, but also in the photo reference on the canvas. This happens with all kinds of brushes: Here is a video from AP (happens in AD in the same manner), where the brush lag is visible very clearly. I realize, that in this instance the lag is connected to fast and short brush strokes, but this happens no matter what brush type or size I use: Affinity Photo 2021-03-10 17-16-13.mp4 My specifics: I am using a Wacom Intuos Pro M on Win10 CPU:Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz GPU: GeForce RTX2070 32GB RAM I also permitted the software to use more RAM and set the Geforce GPU as default. I really wonder, what the issue is here, since the PC should be more than able to run AP+AD without any performance issues. But when using the software I can clearly detect spikes in CPU and GPU usage in my Task Manager. I'd really love to use Photo and Designer as my dedicated painting software. But as it is right now, I'm having trouble to perform very simple tasks with it. Thanks in advance for your support, I really hope there is a solution to this:) Best, Garf
  7. Dear Affinity Designer developers, As much as I like Affinity Designer, can you please add this quite important feature as many people have requested for this since 2014?! I have seen this topic on the forums since 2014 and it is quite frustrating that I am not able to use Affinity Designer for print on demand- the major reasons I purchase AD in the first place. I have enjoyed learning how to use AD for over a year from scratch and I'm not an experienced graphic designer as I'm still learning everyday and still enjoy discovering new features but as seen in the forums, time and time again even with examples of blurry images with jagged edges, it's evident I'm not the only one experiencing this. It's not possible that it's because all of these people complaining don't know what they are doing- even experienced graphic designers have complained about this. Below is an example of a 6000 x 6000 px file exported as a PNG at 300 dpi and imported into RedBubble and the 1st image shows the original scale at 57& as shown on the POD platform, however as the subsequent images show, when scaled down to 35% and 25% respectively, the image becomes fuzzy, with any outlines/strokes appearing pixelated/ jagged and with typographic designs, the fonts become less legible and distorted. It's odd because the more you scale down, the worse it gets. Yet other images on the platform appear crisp and sharp and I bet they used Illustrator. What I have learned is that it has something to do with switching anti-aliasing off when exporting the file. A feature other software like Adobe illustrator have but Affinity Designer doesn't. Apparently switching anti-aliasing off prior to exporting the image makes all the difference, producing that sharp crisp image everyone is after and that's why in the forums people keep asking "how to switch anti-aliasing off" in Affinity Designer (since 2014) and it's still not been resolved. What's the point of designing in a vector graphic software if you can't have crisp sharp exported images? If all of us are wrong can please put out a tutorial showing you export a large high resolution PNG image (image and typography) into a dummy RedBubble account as an example? or show us what we are doing wrong! Thank you.

This post relates to this discussion in regards to anti-aliasing: Here is why the "workaround" for anti-aliasing removal in exports as shown here does not work for me (or at least I do not know how to make it work...). I use AD for designing t-shirts which I upload in a PNG24 format to several websites. Most print on demand providers don't want any transparency in the uploaded files. Although the workaround via the "Coverage Map" in the "Blend Options" works on simple shapes, it does not seem to work as soon as masking or clipping come into play. I have created 4 donuts (PNG24 export): Donut 1) No anti-aliasing workaround used Donut 2) Anti-aliasing workaround used (no masking or clipping used - just the normal "fill"-option was used) Donut 3) Anti-aliasing workaround used on masked donut Donut 4) Anti-aliasing workaround used on clipped donut (textured clipped mask for "see through effect (layer used to mask with has the same blend options of course) As expected anti-aliasing was implemented on donut 1 after the export. The workaround works great on donut 2 as you can see. But when donut 3 is masked, transparent pixels appear on the export although the workaround was implemented on every object layer. Donut 4 was clipped. As you can see the border of the donut is fine (no anti-aliasing) but the textured mask (which has the same coverage map settings for "no anti-aliasing" of course) appears with transparent borders on the "see through"-parts. Am I doing something wrong? A simple "turn anti-aliasing on and off button" would be such a helpful option in my opinion. Since I create designs with allot of shapes and strokes it is a big pain to have to manually select all object layers and then set the right blend options every time. This would be a great new feature, since this topic seems to be discussed/ requested for years now. Maybe I am not understanding something, but one thing that is driving me nuts, is, that I seem to be unable to export smaller images (lets say for web and with a size around 200 or 300 px) in a crisp way when text is included. My results are terrible. I get that you can't fill a pixel with two colors but i can't shake off the feeling, that there is something very tricky going on with the rendering machine/ anti-aliasing setting of Affinity when it comes to exporting text and I just wish that it would do a better job there (sorry, I otherwise really love the apps). Anyway to temper with the anti-aliasing? I have Questions like why is a screenshot of 400px picture viewed in half the size (50%) crisper that a 200 px export (no resizing and lanczos3 setting)? Why can a browser show small fonts crisp and why can i not even come close to that when exporting? Latest example: 236x236px web-image, viewed in 100% in AfP looks ok I guess, too small to tell, hahah (due to my screen-resolution?). Now i see the same picture in 100% in the browser and it appears double the size and extremely blurry. Wtf am I missing? To the good people out there : Has anyone of you a best-practice for me, when creating/exporting smaller stuff for web? Can someone help with advice? Thank you very much, Hannah

I'm using the drag and drop interface to drop pixel art files (.bmp) from Windows Explorer to work with into a large master file, but when I paste (drop) them the layers depixelate and anti-aliasing appears. I can't tell whether the layers actual contents have been changed or if it is a UI effect but either way, I wish to turn this off. I performed a cursory search of the forums and the Internet but was unable to find anything for Affinity Photo. Here is approximately what's going on: If I copy and paste a range of pixels, the type of layer created is of type "Pixel", but when I drag and drop a file from an explorer window onto a canvas, it creates a layer of type "Image" instead. How do I make new layers made by drag/drop appear as pristine original pixels (like copy-paste) rather than a blurry anti-aliased version of themselves? I don't see a way to change this in the layer settings or in the Preferences window.
  11. How to disable the smoothing (anti-aliasing) for the pixel rendering (view and png export). Currently it's only possible to choose a smoothing Resample like "Bilinear" or "Lanczos". This is great. I miss the option "None". Important for pixel art or gif images. (images without alpha channel). e.g. I want a pixel perfect circle. Is this already possible? If not, I want to suggest this feature. Just disable the resampling.
  12. The Marquee and Lasso tools have a checkbox for Antialias, but I don't see that option for the Magic Wand. Is it hidden somewhere else or is there a global preference I need to change?
  13. Hi, just discovered Affinity Designer and impressed by what I've seen so far. Looking to use it as my tool of choice for web design instead of Fireworks. One thing preventing me from doing so just yet is I can't seem to find a way to disable anti-aliasing on specific objects. This image shows a square exported from Affinity Designer (left) vs a square exported from Fireworks: Any idea how I can achieve this? If not I'll go pop a suggestion over in feature requests.
  14. In Photoshop I can choose Brush, Pencil or Block as Erasers. In AP, I don't see anything similar to Block or Pencil. More specifically, I want the means, like in Photoshop, to erase WITHOUT anti-aliasing. Even when I set AP's Erase Brush Tool to 100% Harness, it is still anti-aliased and therefore it is no substitute for Photoshop's Pencil and Block erasers.
