  1. Hi - I have been a long time user of adobe products, over 20 years, and am now trying to move over to Affinity products instead. One of my pain points is designing in Designer and bringing those assets into After Effects. The main feature I would like for Designer is to be able to set up layers in designer and have After Effects see them. In Illustrator I usually set up my animatable elements on separate layers so when I import the file into After Effects those layer will turn into AE layers. My current workflow is to create my design in Designer, export out as an EPS. Bring the EPS into Illustrator and break it up into the correct layers and saving an Illustrator file to import into AE. Now I do understand that Adobe has the advantage of making their apps work together to make this work out but it would be so awesome if you guys could do this. Actually it would be even more spectacular if you guys made an app for mograph like AE but that's such a niche app that I'd understand if this wasn't even on your radar. Thanks for your time!
  2. I am really enjoying the Affinity Suite of Products as professional design products and alternatives to Adobe products. Are there any plans for an After Effects alternative in the next couple of years? This is the app I miss the most from Creative Cloud.
  3. This is a simple technique I use regularly to copy a path in Illustrator, then in After Effects I create a shape layer that I then paste onto so I can animate it (aka like a logo)...but while I can copy the path in Affinity Designer, After Effects doesn't paste it. Does anyone know why? And whether there is a solution or setting I can change that will enable this? This is kind of a vital feature I need in order to decouple from Illustrator. Thanks.
  4. Do you have any plans to create an alternative software to Adobe After Effects? There are no real options yet out there that are as powerful as After Effects. Now that you have Photo, Designer and Publisher, an After Effects alternative is all I need to completely forget Adobe.
  5. Hello all, I've been looking for an answer to this through searching around but haven't found a clear answer, so I decided to bring my concerns here before I tear my hair out. Forgive me if the answer is simple or if I missed something obvious here. I've been interested in doing some simple, line and trim animations in After Effects based on pre-done and similar vector element in Affinity Designer. However, I'm encountering a problem in that, while I am able to export the shapes and elements to use for this process, I am unable to do the same with paths, which makes the trim path function... rather awkward to use. When I researched this, it seemed like there is a way to do this, but it was not explained clearly, so I don't know where I am making any errors. Any help would be appreciated.
  6. Hello forum and dear Affinity Team ;) Congratulations to your great software, I realy love it and it's the first time I didn't touched Photoshop and Illustrator since 1 month. And...I'm looking forward to never touch it again :P So here's my question: Is there any chance that I can leave After Effects untouched in the near future? Your software is very great, fast and reliable. Would be so great to put all this experience in a replacement for After Effects written by Serif. Thank you Pete
  7. For my work, I used Adobe Illustrator to draw artworks and import to After Effects to animate. Now I make a switch to Affinity Designer, but I have having troubles preparing artworks for After Effects. If I am preparing vector artworks with layers for After Effect, which format is suggested from the Export menu in Affinity Designer?
  8. Only seems logical... A replacement for Adobe's After Effects!
  9. Hi, Natron on Github Now that Natron (the opensource competitor of Adobe After Effects and Nuke) seeks for developers and maintainers to continue this project it is a golden opportunity for Serif to get their own "After Effects/Nuke" application in hands. This is a mature super sophisticated application absolutely not in beta phase. What do you say Serif? Regards, David

  11. I am a motion graphics artist, and have used Adobe After Effects for over 15 years. I have always loved the software, but in recent (*cough* Creative Cloud) years, I have found the software to be increasingly unreliable, and its performance has not been well optimized for modern computers. I was upset to find that AE did not run noticeably faster on my new iMac pro than my old 2013 iMac. Unfortunately there aren't many competitors for AE that work well for both motion graphics and visual effects. Premiere has some viable alternatives but its integration with After Effects has kept me using it. I'm not a big fan of Apple Motion and Final Cut X. I stumbled on Affinity Photo about a year ago when I needed the FFT Denoise tool to remove a halftone pattern from a newspaper photo. (Amazing tool by the way). I think Affinity Photo is an excellent alternative to Photoshop, and better in many ways. I'm not a big fan of Adobe's subscription model, but lack of a good AE competitor has kept me with Adobe. I would love Affinity branded versions of both After Effects and Premiere. Any plans to create them?
  12. Please, make it happen! A lot of us needs an animation alternative for Flash/Animate/After Effects, fully compatible with other Affinity programs. If not, maybe adding the animation inside affinity designer (a timeline) as Photoshop have to make animated GIF? Thank you, love you guys!
  13. It would be super awesome to have a real competitor to After Effects. I do use motion but something more like After Effects would be a winner, control over keyframe interpolation, masks, expressions and shapes! I think there is a ton of improvement that can be make and the world would become a different place. I have made the move over to Photo and Designer and feeling more comfortable with them everyday! Now just a really cool motion graphics/compositing program would completely get rid of the need for Adobe for me.
  14. Hello! I designed a little scene in AD, and put everything on its own layer(as you would in AI when importing to AE): Each element is separated out, for example: To my knowledge, the current way to get separated layers into AE, is to use .PDF, which seems to work perfectly(also note that with "Karma" selected in AE, it highlights exactly what I want): However, which I convert the layer into Shape Layers using "Create Shape Layers from Vector Layer," the "Karma" text completely goes away and it adds vectors from I don't know where along with a grey background: Karma is no where to be found in the Shape Layers groups and it added layers from somewhere else. It appears that "Facts & Trivia" and those 5 images get put on every layer that I break apart. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here?
  15. hello dear guys... just a short one... is there probably planned to release more software one day? I'd SO looking forward to get kind a "after effects" pendant.... I know you'd rock that part too
  16. Hi Guys, I wanted to learn motion graphics but I honestly can't afford to buy both After Effects and Illustrator. After there any motion graphics designers who can share their workflow to me? How do you guys manage to use Affinity Designer and After Effects? Cheers.
  17. Hi! I couldn't find anything directly related to my question, so I figured I'd try to ask independently. I'm not new to AD (I LOVE IT, by the way), but I am new to AE, and I currently don't see any worthy equivalent to it (hoping you guys make it happen!)... So, as I'm getting more into Motion Graphics, my question is, how do I successfully export my AD work in to AE?? I saw it done on YouTube, but the guy was doing a time lapse vid, and didn't at all show how he seemingly seamlessly imported his vector work into AE. And I don't see ANYWHERE how to do this. I know there's got to be a way. Can anyone please help!? Thank you so much in advance.
  18. As it's not possible to export as an AI file to import in After Effects, it would be nice to have an Third party Affinity import format in After Effects so, I know that solution is quite possible.
  19. Hi there, Do you have any future plans to develop software to animate motion graphics? Put bluntly, an alternative to Adobe After Effects? It really would be the complete package for me, meaning I could unceremoniously dump Adobe for good. The next natural step would lead onto a replacement for Premiere but I don't want to overload you just yet, as I know you're throwing a lot of energy at getting Publisher out there. I love what you guys are doing, I only discovered you last week! At last an alternative to Adobe. Keep it coming!
  20. 21. Hi all, you've done a great job with the option to export to PSD format from Affinity Photo. Great for After effects animators!!! Will this similar feature (export to .AI) be possible in the following versions of Affinity Designer? Because After effects only see layers from .ai format. Or maybe make a script/plugin for after effects, so that he can import native .afdesign file with layers. Cheers!
  22. Hello, I'm new here, have been waiting for the beta to come on Windows and pretty happy you guys did it ! In my job as a motion designer i use a lot of Ps and Ai before animating stuff, and I was testing compatibility between softwares to see if I could make the move to Affinity Designer . So far I have only one problem:loosing my layers when exporting as .eps. Is there a way to fix that ? I usually really need to keep my images split in multiple layer before animating, and that's something a .ai file enables me to do. Thanks !
  23. I know there are a lot other construction sites you are working on. But maybe you're thinking about, what could we do in future... So this is just an Idea: "Affinity Cutter" the answer in digital movie cutting. The "Premiere Killer".
  24. Hi there, just wanted to know if a affinity video software is planned? (comparable to adobe premiere)? Thanks Axel
  25. I have a fairly complex (400+layers) graphic I need to animate. I've looked at After Effects, but while it is a stunningly capable app, it's very much overkill for my needs, and the learning curve is probably a month (along with the headaches). I also looked at Principle and Flinto. Here you need Sketch as a bridge. Principle and Flinto are basically for animating transitions within mobile apps, or web applications. They work by artboards, where one artboard represents a frame. The problem is that they rasterise your content. I hate seeing pixels now that I'm used to vector level definition! There is also good old Flash Professional to consider. Finally, I could simply animate a .svg with javascript. But I was kind of looking for a GUI app to make essentially doing the same thing easier. My question: I'm looking for the easiest, most intuitive way to animate a layered vector graphic while retaining these elements as vector shapes, not rasters. Does anyone have experience? Please share your thoughts. Thanks.
