  1. Hi all, I thought I'd give myself a quick project to explore Affinity's Shape tools and make a series of images. I've made some fish like creatures, but other themes could easily used, like monsters, faces etc. I was thinking this idea could help new users learn about the Shape tools and generally have some creative fun. When I get a few spare moments, my intention is to further embellish each shape with colours, different fills, backgrounds, text etc Note: the bitmap fill is from The Shizzle Style and Brush Pack (Grizzle 1), the paper texture is from True Grit Texture Supply (Folio-Vellum) and additional line shading is from Artifex Forge's Vintage Engraved Patterns (Pattern 6). Yes, I have splashed out on the Spring Sale offers!
  2. Here I'll show you an architecture magazine that I design annually with Affinity Publisher and oversee the printing and production. In the beginning the magazine was created in Indesign. After I got out of the Adobe subscription, I adapted it in Publisher and now designed it in AP for the fourth time. At the beginning there were problems with embedded customer PDFs; these were not passed through but were always somehow interpreted and therefore incorrect. Since ver. 2 this has been a thing of the past. You can view the entire magazine as a digital edition here. Have fun! Servus Ernie

  10. My brother bought a new place and requested I make him a poster on human evolution using the skulls. It took a while to research and decide what would work and to weed through alternative ways to present to timeline. The images were draw in AP and it was set up in Apub. The illustrations separately are on 15x15" canvases and the printed poster will be 12x18".

  14. Here is a series of macOS application icons. The idea is to redesign them as simply as possible, fitting them perfectly into the frame (grid template) defined by Apple, without embellishment and flatness. A simple graphic game for fun (you can exploit them as you wish)!... Voici une série de reprises d'icônes d'applications de macOS. 15. This isometric illustration project was probably one of the most difficult I've ever worked on but absolutely worth all the effort in the end. Big shout out to Kevin House for taking the time to provide the walk-through and resources to get it completed 💪
  16. These are some projects done in Affinity Publisher, but took it just a step further to see what they'd look like placed into mockups. The three projects are "Aurelie", "Jovan" and "Komodo". Affinity's built-in stock images feature really helped, especially with the amount of iterations I had to make. "Aurelie" "Jovan" "Komodo" "Komodo" View 2 All the books together
  17. Here are my two attempts at "The Whittler" illustration project from the Affinity Designer Workbook. I forgot to mention in my "Reflected Skyline" post is that every upload that contains two images from the workbooks are years apart. The V1s were done on a low-budget laptop I had since college which still works to this day! The V2s were completed on a much better system. I must admit that I could've put a bit more effort into V2, especially with the robot's neck but hopefully that'll be done if I ever decide to tackle it again V1: V2:
  18. I've come up with a workflow that seems to work for me. I spend my mornings sketching abstract shapes. I draw them the old-school way with pencil and paper. I cut out the “good” ones and keep them in a folder for inspiration. I then take a digital picture of the one I want to work with and place it into Designer. After recreating the shape I start to see what I can come up with. I've posted the original sketch and the final product. I never know where these drawings are going to go, but that's what I like… the journey, and hopefully a decent destination.
  19. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/VJYr95 Had some fun painting one of my favourite Spider-Man villains, Venom. Had a blast working with more painterly brushes for the skin.
  20. Hi there forums! I have been using Affinity off and on since Publisher V1 came out, I have 2.x ready to install but I'm waiting on some upgraded hardware first, so I'm still using the version 1.10.x apps for now. I mostly use Publisher, but I am learning Designer and Photo some. Prior to this I used mainly Microsoft Publisher and Paint.net as there was no way I could afford the Adobe products. So thank you Serif for making Affinity so affordable. Anyhow, I thought I'd share a three-fold brochure project I just turned out for my wife's accounting firm. I'd love your opinions and critiques. Thanks. Jared Finkenbinder Proximitas Local Marketing, LTD Alpha TaxHelp Brochure.pdf
  21. Greetings from someone who never used desktop publishing software until age 75. (Admittedly, I was a programmer/analyst on the mainframe IBM360 during the 1980s.) However, my previous experience is thus analogous to a dirigible mechanic trying to fix a modern fly-by-wire fighter jet. Back in my misspent youth, I was an historian, a museum curator, a darkroom technician and magazine editor, and wrote several books and many articles. With some book projects that had been rusticating on the back burner for decades, I shopped around for a powerful, yet affordable, publishing software and kept coming back to Serif Affinity. I purchased the suite of programs and the updated versions and have not regretted that decision. After the steep, but not daunting, learning curve from knowing absolutely zero to being able to actually produce print-ready pdfs, I edited, designed, illustrated and published a three-volume introduction to (U.S.) Civil War paper ephemera, and a reprint of a Victorian "dime novel" between August 2022 and February 2023. I'm currently in the final stages of resurrecting the works of "Bracebridge Hemyng," a nineteenth-century London barrister-turned sensational novelist who created "Jack Harkaway." A friend created a video "book trailer" on YouTube for the Civil War volumes: The books average about 300 pages each, with hundreds of illustrations in full color. And here is my preliminary cover design for the upcoming "Jack Harkaway" biography/bibliography: Still discovering the ins and outs of Affinity Designer and Photo, but they have made these projects much easier and allowed total artistic and editorial control. My message is: If an old geezer can do it, go for it!
