  1. One selection later, with the output as a mask, then the color picker to match the background colour in the image for a rectangle under the image layer, then a white balance adjustment to get rid of almost all of that colour, then a levels adjustment to create a more defined image, then three pixel layers with varying opacity levels to provide some colour with some watercolour brushes, then a merge visible. Then off to a pastel plugin. Then back to Photo for another levels adjustment. Then a vibrance adjustment. The result: Morpeth Castle, "a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Grade I listed building at Morpeth, Northumberland, England ... restored by the Landmark Trust and is now available as a holiday rental home." My source comes from the British Library, digitised image from page 82 of "The Local Historian's Table Book of remarkable occurrences, historical facts, traditions, legendary and descriptive ballads, connected with the Counties of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, and Durham.,," which is in the Public Domain.
  2. Here are my two attempts at "The Whittler" illustration project from the Affinity Designer Workbook. I forgot to mention in my "Reflected Skyline" post is that every upload that contains two images from the workbooks are years apart. The V1s were done on a low-budget laptop I had since college which still works to this day! The V2s were completed on a much better system. I must admit that I could've put a bit more effort into V2, especially with the robot's neck but hopefully that'll be done if I ever decide to tackle it again V1: V2:
  3. A bit of straightening and cropping, some Levels, Curves, and HSL Shift Adjustments, then some Tone Mapping, plus a watercolour plugin and here is Harlech Castle, as Sir Walter Scott could never have imagined. (And probably wouldn't have, had he been able to!) Flickr.com has a marvellous link to the British Library's collection of images in the Public Domain, and therefore without copyright restrictions. This came from the Castles Gallery.
  4. I saw the tree and its carvings at the weekend in Dortmund's Westfalenpark and cropped and redesigned the image.
  5. My project with Affinity Photo and Filter Forge. Orginal file: 3600x3600 px, Adobe RGB, file PNG.
  6. My project with Affinity Photo and Filter Forge. Orginal file: 3800x3800 px, Adobe RGB, file PNG.

  8. I waited all summer to catch this female of natural aviation at the lunch counter getting her fill up. I'm glad Affinity Photo was there when the waiting was over.
  9. Start into infinite spaces, composing supported with material from Pixabay, made with Affinity Photo and upscayl, because I started with a too little canvas.

  12. I used some macros from James Ritson.
  13. I did this in 2016 just after Affinity photo was released. the original was taken on my wife's iPhone on a damp and dismal day. I was rather pleased to see how it finally turned out. Program goes from strength to strength.
  14. Another try at drawing in Photo in the iPad and I think it's going better. Thanks to the staff I was able to get the blur brush working again and though subtle is did help with some blending issues. This is definitely a case where not good photo can make a much more interesting illustration. Isolating the marcher form everyone else made for a much better composition.

  19. I have tried the next step to completing my composite image by trying to hide the original stuffed animal from the original image. Here is what I have with just taking the original image, and used the inpainting of the fill option in the Edit Menu Then I masked in what parts I wanted visible.
