  1. Affinity Photo and current/former Adobe users: Is there any way to recreate the effect of the Adobe PS>Filter Gallery>Dry Brush using Affinity Photo? If anyone has insight into the Affinity version of Adobe’s Smart Blur, that would be appreciated as well. Basically, I’m trying to translate some PS Actions into AP Macros, but there are a couple of PS specific steps that I don’t know the Affinity equivalents for. Anyone that speaks both languages would be helpful. I also know that AP for iPad doesn’t create Macros. I’ll be translating on desktop to hand off to little sister on iPad. IMG_0430.MP4
  2. Hello, When trying to seriously capture faint deep-sky objects, with my rather unprofessional equipment (just a mirrorless camera and a 300mm lens), I tend to do it with several sessions over several days. Each day I add another session to the stack and see if I can squeeze some more photons out. Each day, however, I have to select all lights, darks, bias, flats of each previous session, over and over again, before adding the files of the new session. I didn't find a way to save these file selections, so that I don't have to do this repetitive task every session. Did I miss it somewhere or does it not exist? Thanks for any pointers. Cheers, Dom
  3. Been trying to get a better understanding of the procedural texture functions, but I don't know how some of them work. In particular: - Vector creation: tovec3 - Vector utilities: debump - Stepping: mapcui, smoothstepsini - Quantisation: All of them Any help on any of these functions would be appreciated. It can be a url. I don't mind.
  4. Hey there! I would like to extend the background of a picture. I already did this several times with the PC version of affinity photo and I knew that this was similar with the ipad version in the past where the selection tool was not part of a own persona. But at this point I am out of ideas…. How I tried to extend: New file and placing the picture within the photo persona (picture smaller than the canvas) Changing to selecting persona and selecting a part of the background which should be extended. Changing back to the photo persona and trying to „grab“ the selecting with the move-tool. But not the selection made before is taken to the move control, the complete picture is „grabbed“ by the tool. This is also happening when selecting the move-tool from the selection persona like shown on the picture attached. Appreciate your feedback and help
  5. Hi, The question may be very basic, but is there a method or way to use the Unsharp mask (live filter). I've search on the net and it seems that: - you start by dragging the Factor slider to either half or full to the right, then - you push up the Radius slider until you find it "to your taste", then - slide down the Factor to better define the sharpness. - Depending of the image (if noisy), you may use the Threshold slider to mitigate the effect and reduce the noise. Is it a consensus of using this tools? Why would some use a 2 (half) factor, preferably of a 4 (full) ? Any idea ? Thank you

  7. As already described/discussed in the support questions, colours are displayed incorrectly when a monitor profile is active in the system. The problem can only be reproduced with Affinity Photo and does not show up in Adobe Lightroom, Chrome, FastRawViewer or Irfanview.
  8. Just discovered this little issue with Color Picker UI being showed with approx. 1s delay after click. Be it called from Context Toolbar or Character Panel or somewhere in Layer Effects – Color Picker always shows up with that delay now. Seems to be introduced in 1.10.4 (Designer, Photo and Publisher are affected) as I never noticed this before. It was always just as instant as any other UI controls. The only barely noticeable and subtle delay that I ever experienced, was switching between Personas in Affinity Publisher. But I can completely understand this as the whole UI needs to be rearranged. But Color Picker alone...

  11. Is there any logic to the order in which a group of files are opened in AD and AP. I have a group of seven files called, 1.png, 2.png ... 7.png. If I select all from the finder and open them in either AD or AP they always open in a different order, i.e. the order of the file tabs reading from left to right when open in AD and AP is different each time they are opened with the exception of the last file which always appears as 7.png. These are the results showing the tab order in AD and AP when selecting all seven files in the finder and then right-clicking and selecting Open With. It's not a real issue and doesn't really cause any problems though it would be helpful if they opened either in the order they were selected or alphabetically.
  12. With this issue I'm all caught up with posting. Constantly learning new bits and pieces about all of the Affinity programs. Always getting better. I have jumped into QuarkXpress to update and export some older files and after using Publisher for almost 3 years, Xpress feels like I'm fighting the program at times. Forget about adobe indesign (the monolithic beast). However, to each their own.
  13. Hi, I shot some photos and stacked them together to a manipulation. I used several methods like photo stacking, crop, perspective warp, color changing, create shadows, selective exposure and dodge & burn. I wish you fun with this video und feel free to show your results and ideas. Ciao Jack
  14. Followed along this Photoshop Tutorial on Affinity Photo iPad: My Follow Along Piece: I cannot seem to nail that beautiful searing orange, rim light Rikard has on his orb. It’s like a very soft white glow within the orange glow. If somebody can figure that out, please show me how you did it! Original Photo: In good conscious, I cannot place all the assets here, Rikard Rodin offers them for free through his youtube, just check description in the video.
  15. Newest Afinity Photo (1.10.4) Download won't extract to a msi but publisher and designer do. i have tried downloading from the site and on multiple machines any one else know how to get around this error.
  16. Hi all, I am used to clip adjustment layers in Photoshop. What I mean by that is putting an adjustment layer in the stack, painting a mask on this adjustment layer and then adding another one clipped to it. I haven't found a way to do that in Affinity. Nesting adjustment layers doesn't work: the nested layer has no effect. Is there an "Affinity" way to do the same thing? Thanks for your help

  18. I am working on a huge 360º pano. Using "Edit/Inpait" for closing the drone hole, something went wrong and the task is now running for over half an hour, doing kinda nothing (no fan noise fully equipped MBP16/2019). It is not possible to [Esc] this without kill -9 (Force quit) Affinity Photo. Unfortunately always doing like so, you never know if some GB of cache or whatever used on SSD will remain forever als garbage on the disk, wasting valuable disk space. Where is the [Esc] or [Cancel] button??? To me, this is a bug, at least an ugly design flaw: Cheers, Roland
  19. Hi, Please can you direct me to the location on the Affinity Forum where I can post a request for a new feature in Affinity Photo/Designer. I have searched and searched for it (I know its on the Affinity Forum somewhere because I have found it once) but I have given up... In the meantime, while I am here I would like to suggest that Affinity make the location of this 'request new feature' section (when I locate it) totally separate from any other post or section so that it can be located more easily. I am sure others have had the same problem. Thanks. To Serif/Affinity. Great software. Thank you! I cannot tell you how good, how professional they are... I have been a Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign/After Effects/Corel Painter/CorelDraw user for over 20 years. I stopped using Adobe software when they forced everyone to RENT their software, forcing the individuals and smaller companies to search for alternatives. Luckily, there is Affinity - our saviour. Many other software companies are trying to do force their own customer base to rent their software - Microsoft (with their Office 365), Corel is trying to get you to do it too, many of the 3D companies too. Its shameful how the individual and smaller companies are thought so little of by these big software giants. They use us to create their niche market, build their company and client base, then drop us like we are the poor, starving waifs of Victorian London. They only want to deal with the rich, the famous names, the elite... But Rome didn't last forever...
  20. Hi, I would like to make a suggestion for the 'New Image Brush from Selection' option in the 'Brushes' Panel I have created a few 'Tree Branch' brushes, but when I paint with them, although I can rotate them on the 'General' tab of the 'Brush Editing' box, what I would like to do is to be able to move the Object Centre of Rotation before I create the brush so that when it paints, it paints the image object(s) from this cente point out (ie the branch image object has its centre point at the branch end - at its widest point - so that when it paints, the branch image(s) fan out from this point and look more natural, rather than having its centre of rotation at the centre of the object. Or even better, to be able to adjust the centre of rotation of each image or image(s) at any time in the 'Brushes Editing' box. I hope this makes sense. I hope too that I have posted it in the correct forum - and apologise (again) if I haven't...
