  1. Here’s a silly throw-away experiment I put together while playing around. Everything except the background image was created using a mix of the three Affinity applications. Competition Time: First to say who is described in the “classified document” gets a Like.
  2. Now that summer is truly over I've just started some drawing again. This is for a portrait, a bit more than head and shoulders shot. It will be my first attempt, and possibly last (it's going very slowly), at a realistic one or pretty much any person come to that. I've bits to do around the edge to blend in but will do that when the skin is done. I guess it will show up here pretty much full screen, it obviously won't be that large when on the face, so zoom out or stand back. I've included the AD file just in case you're interested. 3. Hi, I've been using the forum for a while now and recently have commented on a few peoples work so thought it only fair I should have something to show for myself. So this is my first attempt using Designer. It's very incomplete. There are more characters being worked on (I've switched their visibility off) and a lot of things haven't been finished like the house, tree, grass and the cloud splash where the rainbow fish is meant to be entering the cloud. Pretty much most things are unfinished but it's taking time as my Mac is struggling to cope with the scale of the image now. It's for a children's book I'm working on. It's entirely done with vector, no brushes, no pixels. And also completely done using a mouse as trying to draw anything with my Wacom tablet results in the line taking about a minute to catch up with what I've drawn. Also It's only a portion of the image, the original extends both up and down. As it's so large I've added some sections of the image as well. Apologies for the essay.
  4. I have been a fan of Moby for many years, I like his melancholic style. The song "Harbour" reads: "My heart is full, my heart is wide". I thought about how big a heart can be. No idea. But when it's big, it should be filled with love rather than hate. https://www.bodobe.de/full-heart/
  5. This is a 100% vector image heavily depending on the very powerful Duplicate function, which I will explain in this thread. Below you see the three sections of the horn indicated: First the contours of each of the sections were drawn. After that and on top of that the first rib nearest to the skull was drawn, giving it a custom Swatch (which I saved), and a 3D fx that I gave the Scale with Object property. Then Duplicate the rib using Control + J, resize, rotate and position it until it no longer follows the underlying contour. Resize and rotate (and skew if necessary) and Duplicate again until it no longer follows the contour lines. Do this until the entire contour area is filled with ribs. Note: Every time a new rib is duplicated, move it below the previous one using the Back One icon below the menu bar. Penultimate function of creating the horn is uncheck the contour lines in the Layers panel to hide them. Finally mirror and position to the opposite side. Btw, the skull consists of a Duplicated layer that has a custom Fill in a different direction relative (180 degrees vs 45 degrees) to the original one. Its transparency was set to the Colour Burn filter with an 80% opacity. Both skull objects were given a double 3D fx lighting - 45 degrees and 270 degrees light source. Last action is to group all objects and apply a 3D fx of 45 degrees (top right) was applied to them to make lighting seem consistent.
  6. Hello, I have made also ilustration for 2020 calendar to my company when i am work right now. Some stuff are from freepik (cars, people and tree). How its start (will be more if i found something more ) :
  7. Hello, I just finished creating a new Christmas card for the place where I work. Back / Front Inside
  8. Hello Fellow Designers, I would like to share my latest work with you. Last week I created an iOS 13 app with Affinity Designer and Apple's latest user interface framework, SwiftUI. The application itself is a part of my new SwiftUI Course as the first project which students will build from scratch. I found both Affinity Designer and Photo very helpful in the creative process and I decided to continue work with them in the future. If you do not mind, I attach some snapshots of the SwiftUI app. What do you think about it? Any suggestions or tips? I would appreciate it so much. Have a nice day! Cheers, Robert A short video about the final app: App Gallery
  9. Good day, everyone! Just wanted to share my work made from Affinity Designer which is a combined ideas from the web and for the love of the calmness of felines. I wanted to print this in shirts since we are planning to have our own tshirt brand. Need your opinion to what file type is appropriate to keep its resolution. Would png be sufficient? Looking forward for your response to share your expertise. Thanks and God bless!
  10. Hi everyone, I'm new here. I have been on the forum a few times and looked around and decided to make the leap and join. A bit about me. I'm a mother of three children plus three cats. I've never used a vector program before but I have always loved looking at vector art. It fascinates me. I used to draw and paint a tiny bit when I was a young girl but haven't used that creative side for so many years. On my birthday 2019, I decided it was time I fulfilled that creative side of me and asked my children for Affinity Designer for my present. They were kind of like, what the hell, hahahaha. I had researched vector programs and Illustrator seemed to be the most popular. The ongoing cost was way out of what I can afford and I got sad at the thought I couldn't really do what I imagined. I researched further and came across Serifs products. They looked and sounded amazing. I read reviews which were great. I came on the forum and saw the passionate community. Yes, there were lots of issues brought up about designer but for the cost I thought I would give it a try. I am so happy I did. It has been a huge learning curve. I'm such a newbie at digital art. I'm watching videos and reading all the online tuts I can. I'm writing down all my experiments with the vector side of designer and would be happy to share them if there are any other newbies here. We can learn together.
  11. My vector portrait of Phoebe Waller-Bridge in Affinity Designer, made with restricted (5) colour palette.
  12. Hey! I do transit diagrams and maps for fun in my free time! Here is my unofficial transit diagram of the tramway in Liberec and between Liberec and Jablonec, Czech Republic. Showing all four lines in operation as of Oct. 2019. Colors for each line are introduced. Also included are the railway lines. Have fun! And feedback is always welcome. Chris
  13. Hey you all! I do transit maps and transit diagrams for fun in my spare time. In the last two days I was creating my version of the Kharkiv metro after a "request" by @AmateurAffiniter :-) In the maps (white and black) the present network, the two station on the green line under construction and also the further planned network are shown. As usual if you find any mistakes, errors please tell me :-) Have a great day, Chris
  14. This is my third portrait of a female, the unforgettable Marilyn Monroe. When I started this work I wasn't sure whether to draw extreme detail like pores and every strand of hair, which would have required some level of imagination since the quality of the reference photo was not too good. But while progressing I began to lean more towards creating a visual impression rather than going photo realistic. The impression being a soft, dreamy image. The dimensions at which this work was drawn are height x width = 165 x 126 cm. But since it entirely consists of vectors it can be re-scaled to any desired size without loss of quality. 15. Hello community, I would like to use this post to ask everyone to show something done in Affinity Designer, Photo or Publisher, main theme Halloween. It does not matter if it is something simple or complex, it is simply to show something done by you. To start, here is my contribution.
  16. A very simple set of shapes, and a first post of something I've done with Designer on iPad ... Feedback welcome.
  17. Rolodex card: Cool, I created a rolodex card in Affinity Designer. Rolodex Card.afdesign
  18. Hi All Finally! completed the first artwork originally for #INKTOBER 2016 (Twelve) and then recreated in Affinity Designer/Photo and now looking forward to the next one!. Original file size 600mm (300dpi) 12 additional 250x310mm (300dpi) for each creature
  19. Hey everyone. This is a piece I finished recently in Affinity Designer. I wanted to create the look and feel of 70s retro scifi illustrations and at the same time I wanted to stay 100% vector. No traces, no bitmaps, no pixel layers. Critique, opinions and questions welcome :D
  20. Remember Macromedia (!) Fireworks? I loved Fireworks! I even keep an old copy alive on my old Mac Pro. It crashes every few minutes, but for me the user experience of working in an application that really makes sense to me, even when I'm away from it for a few months, makes up for all the crashes and for the the annoying homebrew definition by which Fireworks hides vector stuff in a PNG. In the last 10 years I've repeatedly tried to get used to Photoshop and Illustrator. Since I'm not doing design on a day to day basis, I kept on loosing too much time maintaining the software, getting puzzled and figuring out how to do simple stuff. A few weeks ago I started using Affinity Designer. My SO was very enthousiast about Affinity Photo and finally convinced me to take the jump. Dear Affinity developers, I'm having so much fun! I've even revived a few silly hobby projects, just because ... fun! Having a great UX really matters. Of course there's stuff missing from Affinity Designer. My main complaint is not being able to distort and warp vector objects. And Fireworks has this great way of gradually simplifying strokes that hold too many points, I'd love to see that in Affinity Designer as well. But still, I'm happy - happy - happy (I feel a song coming up!) I've been playing around a bit. I've had a lot of help from tutorial video's, the Affinity Designer Workbook and of course this great forum. So I'd like to share a playful vector brush set with you as a small tooken of my appreciation for this great community. The afbrushes file holds the brush definitions, the afdesign file has some more examples and and my notes on how to create a vector brush. Title reference: "That's not a knife. 21. I put this together for my offline Twitch channel banner. I've been looking at Miami Vice imagery, and recently rewatched the trailer for Far Cry: Blood Dragon and thought I'd take a stab at something like this. The font is a freebie called "Free Fat Font". Perfect for 80s Retro. Thanks for the look!
  22. A little experiment in keeping things black and white. The main outlines were vectors with detail added in pixel mode. Used brushes/pencil tools to do the vector lines, not the pen tool as I wanted a slightly loose feel, but not too much. In fact, I didn't really know what I wanted!
  23. Hi all. I've been playing around with the trial version of Affinity Designer for the last few days and so far I'm really liking it. I've dipped in and out of art as a hobby for quite a long time and just recently decided to dip back in. Here's something I did today. I based this on a randomly generated description of a critter. I've always been shy about sharing my work, but I'm trying to get over that. Even though it's only a hobby and something I can only devote a few hours a day to, I am interested in improving. Does anyone have any suggestions as to places I can post my work to get feedback? I know people post to places like Instagram and Imgur (which I've done), but those aren't really places geared towards getting criticisms of your work. A downvote on Imgur doesn't really give you a good idea of what you need to improve. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
